Benefits And Treatment Of Dissociative Identity Disorder
Diazepam Paired With Psychotherapy Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder that is hardly talked
about, however has extreme effects on patients that suffer with it. However, this topic is important
because it can lead to finding treatments that may be more effective for patients with DID. Past studies
have shown that the main treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorder usually involves therapy. The
most popular types of therapy are psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and family therapy. Treatment for
DID has a specific purpose which is to unite an individual with their personalities, and form a
functional identity (Pais, 2009). Additionally, a strength of past studies is that they usually do a follow
up on patients. Another strength is that the participants are usually all of different ages. One limitation
is that there is never enough participants for research, another limitation is that there aren t many
treatment options to try on patients. Furthermore, is diazepam useful when paired with psychotherapy?
Moreover, my study will be unique because there has only been one case that tried lorazepam, which
is a similar drug to diazepam, and it proved to be successful (Mushtaq, Shoib, Arif, Shah, Mushtaq,
2014). Also, my study will have more than one patient, to have more accurate results. Finally,
diazepam and psychotherapy could be a good treatment for DID. Method

A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep
A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep
The Production Code attempted to censor sex and violence in film of the 1930 s and 40 s. Instead of
impairing, it encouraged directors to use artistic ideas and integrity to surpass the viewers expectations
actively involving them in the film despite Hollywood s censorship. Howard Hawks is one such
director who used the restrictions of the Production Code to his advantage. His screen adaptation of
the Raymond Chandler novel The Big Sleep portrays the same amount of sexuality and violence
apparent in the written word, using a distinctly subtle style, which develops broader themes.
Comparisons with the extremely dull 70 s remake by Michael Winner further suggest the superiority

Both of these endings work well in their respective mediums. There is no written law that says a
producer or director has to strictly reinforce all the themes of the novel that are being adapted to the
screen. If this were true that would make for an entirely dull piece of work, which brings me to the
Michael Winner version.
Lacking the stars of Bogart and Bacall, the film inserts sexuality by glorifying Carmen Sternwood s
nude body at every opportunity. She appears quite a few times, as Chandler would say; in her birthday
suit alongside a gratuitous shot of the Schoolgirls porno magazine that Geiger distributes. The
problem does not lay in the vulgarity of this blatant flamboyance of flesh; however, it adheres to the
common false mystique that exhibitionism equals sex appeal.
Another fault in Michael Winners remake is its strict adherence to the plot of the novel. The
relationship between Vivian and Marlowe in the movie is non existent. It seems as though Robert
Mitchum, playing Marlowe, has more fun flirting with Agnes, played by Joan Collins, in Geiger s
bookstore than with the snotty, senior Sternwood sister. Leaving Eddie Mars gambling casino,
Marlowe kisses Vivian in an attempt to find out, what Eddie Mars has on her. However, Vivian is not
pleased with Marlowe s prodding and shrieks, so that s the way it is you rotten bastard. As illustrated
in the book, this scene depicts

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory
The motivation of a human being is an interesting subject. There many reasons for a person to do the
same action. There are also many theories of the motivation of a human being. For this paper, the
authors will look at the motivation of Theodore Roosevelt to fulfill Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. We
will look how President Roosevelt was motivated to act throughout his life through each stage of the
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs.
Maslow s Theory
The Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs theory is a theory that attempts to summarize motivation. Maslow s
theory is a biopsychosocial theory of motivation. A biopsychosocial theory means that it accounts for
the biological needs and the psychosocial needs of a person. (Carpenter Huffman, 2013) Maslow s
Hierarchy of Needs Theory was first developed by Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper. (Maslow, 1943)
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory works simply. It says that a person will meet baser or more
primitive needs first before fulfilling more advanced or sophisticated needs. To the lay person, thus
seems to be true. The hierarchy of needs are in the following order from simple to complicated:
Physiological Needs Hunger, thirst, and maintenance of internal state of the body; Safety Needs to feel
secure and safe, to seek pleasure and avoid pain; Belonging and Love Needs to affiliate with others, be
accepted, and give and receive affection; Esteem Needs to achieve, be competent, gain approval, and
excel; and Self Actualization Needs

Christian Worldview And The Secular Worldview Of Account
To compare the Christian worldview to the secular worldview of account, one must understand the
definition of what a worldview is and what a Christian worldview looks like as well as what a secular
worldview looks. According to Valk (2012), Worldviews are those larger pictures that inform and in
turn form our perceptions of reality. They are visions of life as well as ways of life, are individual and
personal, yet bind adherents together communally (p. 1). It is not uncommon for individuals to have
different worldviews because the meaning of the word is a set of beliefs one uses to understand the
world. All people grow up viewing the world differently because to the different things they
experience in their lives. A worldview defines the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here the only thing that matters is a man. Within secular philosophy individuals only trust the
scientific method to know anything. So basically, if something can t be observed, tested, or
experimented, then it does not exist. This is why there is no room for spirituality because it can t be
tested, so that means it does not exist. Secular ethics are based on what humans decide as far as
standards and values. Humans depend on science, reason, and a historical experience to figure out
what is right and what is wrong. It s tricky because standards will not be the same for everyone
because everyone has a different background and reason. There are different views within secular
science, psychology, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history which are all based on man and
mans perspective. Overall secular humanist view everything from the standpoint of what is seen and
what can be known the senses. Hitchcock (1994) stated the following: The ultimate failure of Secular
Humanism is in the fact that of its very nature is promises what it cannot fulfill. By encouraging
people to put their trust in earthly happiness, it programs them for disillusionment. This is in no small
measure the reason why the history of the modern world has been characterized, intellectually, by
philosophies of pessimism like Existentialism and by often rancorous bitterness over various plans for
worldly improvement. In the twentieth century, mass slaughter has been perpetrated not

In this document, John Smith describes the abandonment of their colony in Virginia during a long
period of not having food. Smith took his men and sailed back to England, where he described, in
third person, what is was like before they left. The day before Captain Smith returned for England
with the ships, Captain Davis arrived in a small Pinace with some sixteene proper men more (Smith,

them so they wouldn t have to plant any food, however, Smith was wrong and found out the hard way
that the Patawomeke would just ignore them instead. Smith s men would suffer during the Winter

Life Science Controversy
After reading the chapter and reflecting on this topic, I felt more panicked than before thinking deeply
into this topic. Life science curriculum is filled with controversial topics ranging from evolution to
climate change to GMO s to vaccines to human impacts on the Earth. Teaching these topics are
essential to building both the science literacy and the environmental literacy that I am passionate for in
students; however, the methodology used is complicated, muddy and stressful. Kunkle and Monroe
(2015) recommended seven key suggestions to teaching controversial topics: knowing your audience,
framing information, avoiding the overuse of emotional appeals, making behavior change easier,
tapping into learners self identities, focusing on localized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4), instead of the teach the controversy approach. Misconception based instruction acknowledges and
explains the controversy, and recognizes the differences between social and scientific controversy
(para. 5). Furthermore, Cook found research that indicated the negative impacts of presenting both
sides of scientific debates. He highlights climate changes through his examples because it s common
to promote the lack of scientific consensus on climate change, which is not recognized by most
scientists. In using misconception based instruction, teaching just the scientific facts is not the only
route to education; instead, the scientific concepts are presented along with refuting common
misconceptions regarding the scientific topics. Critical thinking is important and teaching students to
evaluate information or sources is even more important; however, learning is also about presenting
new information and fitting this new knowledge into the existing mental models students have
(Kunkle Monroe, 2015, p. 153). This is the struggle how do students reconfigure their mental models
to accommodate to knowledge and trim

Analysis Of The Article Vale Expansion Puts Australia s...
The article Vale expansion puts Australia s global mining market share at risk, Roy Hill head warns is
a rather simple business news piece communicating Vale s decision to increase production with third
party commentary responding to the announcement. At high level it focuses on the actions of firms in
the iron ore production market and in doing so reveals a range of drivers influencing decision making
by firms. These decisions can be described and understood through economic theory. Vale is not the
only iron ore producer in the market so consideration of the market structure is important to
understand firm decision making. In determining the market structure it is important to first clarify
which market is being analysed. The market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chart provides information by four firms, Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), Vale, Rio Tinto, BHP
(WAIO) and the rest of the world. According to this data set these four producers accounts for
approximately 65% 70% of iron ore produced for the export market. This suggests the market has
medium level of concentration reflecting a scenario of monopolistic competition. Another aspect to
consider when examining the iron ore export market is the degree of product differentiation between
iron ore producing firms. Product differentiation impacts the ability or preference of buyers to
substitute products, in this case iron ore, produced by different firms. Iron ore is mined in a variety of
different types; hematite, goethite, limonite and magnetite which contain different concentrations of
iron. If the iron ore of a firm is considered to be of higher quality than other firms, then lower quality
iron ore from other firms may be considered an imperfect substitute . Firms may undertake at
additional cost beneficiation processes cost to improve their product. The article notes Vale will offer a
63 per cent blended product to the market which would compete directly with Australian producers.
This implies consumers could easily substitute the iron ore from other produces in favor of Vale s
product. Over the last 15 years the demand of iron ore has steadily increased and then fallen. Figures

Review on the Movie Crash
FILM SYNOPSIS:
In Crash, a simple car accident forms an uncompromising foundation for the complex discovery of
race and prejudice. Paul Haggis overwhelming and incredibly thought provoking directorial debut
succeeds in bringing to the forefront the behaviours that many people keep under their skin. And by
thrusting these attitudes toward us with a highly deliberate, reckless abandon, Haggis puts racism on
the highest pedestal for our review. There is no better place for this examination than the culturally
diverse melting pot of modern day Los Angeles. In just over 24 hours, Crash brings together people
from all walks of life. Two philosophizing black men steal the expensive SUV belonging to the white,

Crash is a film of collisions: vehicles, personalities, attitudes, stereotypes, conventions, and ultimately
audience expectations. We crash into each other, just so we can feel something, Don Cheadle murmurs
contemplatively in a clunky opening scene thesis statement that nevertheless sums up the film s
approach as well as its premise.
Writer director Paul Haggis definitely wants you to feel something, and spends the rest of the film
doing his best to blindside your expectations, spin your emotions around and overturn your
preconceptions. The content can be incredibly harsh at times, with constant obscenity and a number of
deeply wrenching scenes. Yet Crash looks at our obsession with race and raises some sensitive issues
with startling frankness.
Is a man who risks his life to save another any less a hero if he is also a bigot? How do you weigh one
against the other, or average out the two to define the overall moral worth of the man? Neither detracts
from or cancels out the other; they are both simply sheer facts about a person, with no way to mediate
or relate them to one another, other than the fact that they are convincingly predicated of one and the
same person.
Still, the film finds real moral ambiguity in the struggles of a number of characters, above all Cheadle
s detective, who wrestles with various personal and professional issues and above all wishes to keep
them separate. Crash is a provocation,

Cheer Worlds Research Paper
Cheer Worlds is the biggest competition for many cheerleaders around the world. Teams from
everywhere come to compete. There are no pompoms in sight these cheerleaders come with high
flying stunts, and insane tumbling skills. At any moment anything could go wrong. Forty countries
around the world qualify to teams at their premier national championship to compete at worlds. The
first Worlds was held in 2004. That year a level 5 team called Cheer Athletics took home a win. Now
there are different levels depending on your skills so there are many winners from different levels.
Cheer Worlds is held in Orlando, Florida. The reason for cheer worlds being so important is it gives a
chance for the cheerleaders around the world to have their very own Olympics. It can launch a good
future from some girls or boys. Girls and boys both risk their bodies to do something they love. Cheer

Comparing The Things They Carried And Sorrow By Tim O
The poem Sorrow by Martin Dejnicki shares many similar themes with The Things They Carried by
Tim O brien. Both works of writing display war as a painful and and traumatizing experience.
However, this poem reflects the message in The Things They Carried chapter, Sweetheart of the Song
Tra Bong most accurately. Both the chapter and the poem share the theme that war can take away a
person s humanity. In the lines, We ve dug a hole, called a trench, Humanity is gone, replaced with
stench (Dejnicki) the author is trying to convey that a soldier in war can have their humanity striped
away and uses the symbolism of stench to describe the foul persona that may replace it. In Sweetheart

Maria Gaetana Agnesi was born on May 16, 1718 in Milan to a wealthy literate family. She was the

The Roots Of Evil By Sharon Begley
Natural Devils Are humans created evil or do they develop evil habits? Even though all humans have
different personalities, good or sinful, we all have some type of evil in us. Some people are exposed to
evil in their early childhoods, therefore, if they acclimatize an evil personality as they become more
mature. This causes excessive cycle of humans being created evil if they are raised or treated cruelly
as a child. In result, they are more likely to raise and treat their children cruelly.
Children who are treated with cruelty at a young age affects how they treat others for the rest of their
lives. In The Roots of Evil by Sharon Begley, Begley states that if a child suffers extreme neglect or

For example, in The Book of Genesis , Adam and Eve were created to do well, instead they did
commit evil doings by disobeying God s commands. The Book of Genesis says, And when the woman
saw the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make
one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he
did eat ( Kings James Version, Genesis 3:06). This proves that both Adam and Eve disobeyed God s
commands and were subject to being influenced by evil and wrong doings. Adam and Eve had great
guidance during their childhood which resulted in them knowing the difference between good and
evil. In The Book of Genesis God says, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and
evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also the tree of life, and eat, and live forever (Kings
James Version, Genesis 3:22). Now since man knows the difference between right and wrong, man is

After reading this part, it is easy to conclude that, the policies, especially the tax collecting policy,
plays a key role on people s destitution. The chapter the Widow addresses a topic on widows struggles
on protecting their children and heritages. This builds a foundation for realizing woman s status and
people s moral believes. The chapter the feud describes a crisis which breaks the harmony between
different groups of people and poses a threat to the socirty. These three parts are bases of
understanding and analyzing the story of the woman Wang, and Wang s story involves the crises that

sufficient information to do their further investigation. There are three main sources of the materials:
the Local History of T an ch eng, a personal memoir and handbook written by Huang Liu hung, and
the works of P u Sung ling. Among them, the Local History of T an ch eng and the work by Huang Liu

Changes In One Hundred Years Of Solitude Marquez
One Hundred Years of Solitude Essay A setting in a book can change a character s moods, thoughts
and feelings. It can affect their choices and behaviors, changing them over time. These changes are
seen in the book One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. In this story the Buendia
family live in a town, named Macondo. They had many adventures in the story and generation after
generation have had a lot of kids. Then at the end of the story Aurelino, one of the characters from the
story, find these parchments, and as he reads further into them, a storm which gets bigger and bigger,
eventually wiped out macondo from existence. As the story progressed from the beginning to the end,
the character are seen to change a lot. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point Fernanda and Aurelino are married and have a daughter named Meme. Aurelino isn t in
her life but soon tried to grow a close bond with her. Then Meme when she becomes a teenager goes
out to drink. Fernanda asks what happened, then Amaranta was startled by the obvious burden of hate
that the declaration carried (Marquez 272). Then Meme meets a boy, causing Fernanda to be too
overprotective and asked a mayor to put a guard at her house, lying that her hens were being stolen.
Then when Mauricio Babilonia came to see Meme, a bullet lodged in his spinal column reduced him
to his bed for the rest of his life. He sided of old age in solitude (Marquez 285). When Amaranta tells
Fernanda she was startled by the obvious burden of hate in her, this shows how much having Meme
changed her. She went from a leader to a hateful mother and knowing Amaranta is a soulless, hateful
person herself, it is obvious she can detect it in Fernanda. Also, it s obvious how Fernanda has
changed because when she found out about Meme and Mauricio, she was furious. She was so mad that
she was willing to put a guard at her house and have a bullet lodged in his spinal column reduced him
to his head for the rest of his life and eventually killing him at old age. She was willing to put up a
guard and lie that she thinks her hens were being stolen, even though she knew Mauricio would die.
Fernanda goes to the trouble to murdering him, even though she knows how upset Meme, her own
daughter, would be. In general, this shows how at the beginning of the book she believed in becoming
queen made her a leader who wanted to make a change, but her behavior changed when she had a
child, and she became a hateful

Paper On Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes is derived from the Greek word ekklesia meaning assembly. The author is someone called
Qoheleth which means one who gathers, and is referenced five times throughout the book (Eccl. 1:1,
2, 12; 7:27; 12:8). It is not known if this is the author s name or a title but the English translation of
the word is teacher or preacher . The first verse of chapter one states: The words of the Teacher, the
son of David, king of Jerusalem (Ecclesiastes 1:1), which would obviously indicate that the author is
David s son Solomon, king of the united monarchy. However there is some doubt of authorship raised
due to various evidence, such as the language used in Ecclesiastes as compared to Solomon s other

considered mighty. But it was falling into moral decline due to the acceptance of self indulgence. The
book seems to be the wisdom of experience coming from someone looking back and reflecting on
their life and wishing to warn the next generation. To advise the reader or listener that whatever their
earthly pursuit outside of God will end in emptiness, even disaster, but then calls the individual back
to hope if the focus is on living for Him. The entire book is coming from a thoroughly human
perspective done in a circular manner rather than a linear one. The teacher starts on one topic, moves
to another, and another, then back around to cover them again. One that has explored the extent of
human ability to achieve what the seeker is after. I, the Teacher, when king over Israel in Jerusalem,
applied my mind to seek and to search out by wisdom all that was done under heaven; it is an unhappy
business that God has given human beings to be busy with. Eccl.1:12 And this leads the author to
understand that it is all vanity. I perceived that this also is but chasing after wind.

Media Is The Cause Of Violence In America s Youth
Since the beginning of time, there has been violence. However, recently society has been putting the
blame on media such as movies, television, literature, video games and music. This blame placing
became very relevant in 1985 when Parents Music Resource Center was founded as a way to ban,
restrict or censor media that was found to not only be inappropriate, but was also apparently the cause
of violence in America s youth. While some still agree that media is the sole reason behind the
increase in drug usage, suicide and murder, that is not the case. A piece called Children, Violence and

If women were to have a job outside of the home, it would most likely be of a domestic or personal
service, which was low pay and involved poor working conditions. Many women during this era
struggled, especially single women who had to fend for themselves and find a decent job just to stay
afloat. Lilly s character seems to ignore this standard and takes after Cragg s advice. We first see Lilly
take action upon Craggs words of wisdom , while she is on a train to New York. The guard tries to
kick her off but she confidently uses her sexuality to lure the man off into the distance. We know that
her manipulation succeeds because the next scene is of her in New York City. Lilly has quickly been
able to use her power as a woman to get what she wants and it doesn t end there. She finds herself at
the personnel office, after multiple women before her are seen walking out, rejected, she continues to
ask for a job. Even though she doesn t have any experience or qualifications, she knows that she can
overcome this issue by giving the man what he wants, in a state where he most vulnerable, sex.
Throughout the film, Lilly recognizes the different men that work in the building and the power and
wealth that each obtain;she doesn t waste any time with men of a low status. The other women in the
building seem to catch on to her tricks and lustful ways, one of them even sarcastically commenting,

this course definitely allowed me to do that while bringing my somewhat odd personality to a

Abortions Should Not Be Made On Immoral Actions
[1] Our world has an immense collection of advanced technologies, but it is a shame that many use it
for immoral actions. Such technology has given mankind the power to produce desired children from
a cellular level, but at the same time offer families the freedom to abort the unwanted. In his article,
Rajendra Kale (2012) argues that healthcare professionals should not inform parents the sex of the
unborn until 30 weeks of pregnancy to avoid termination. In another article, Margaret Little (2005)
reasons that abortions are merely the demise of fetuses, and not the violation of rights to live.
Although the two present themselves in different ways, it can be assumed that Little would ultimately
support Kale s assessments. Perhaps the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, Kale argues that many feticides are prevailing due to the mere fact that the fetus is a
female. He believes that many families use gender balance among their children as a decent reason to
allow female feticide (2012). This is clearly not a decent enough reason; it is discrimination and an
excuse to kill an undesired sex. Little also supports this argument. She uses an analogy that a girl
should not end her pregnancy for the fact that she just wants to fit into a party dress as an adequate
reason(2005). To do so, is just a blind act of defiancey. There are many more prejudiced reasons
around the world that families use to opt for termination. Both Kale and Little would agree that such
filial reasons should not be used to extinguish a fetal life. Next, Kale argues that women face
emotional and physical trauma due to family pressures. Many societies pressure woman to abort their
kin against their will. Kale believes that his 30 week policy would put an end to such practices, even if
temporarily. The reason for this claim is because without the knowledge of the fetus s sex, families are
forced to continue the pregnancy. Little accounts several situations where women faced trauma due to
pregnancy: her sister s morning sickness, her friend s pregnancy psychosis, or

This book introduces different types of polygons through objects we find around us everyday. Shape
Up! uses cheese slices, pretzel sticks, a slice of bread, a pencil, and more to introduce various
polygons, flat shapes with varying numbers of straight sides. Children can learn simple geometry with
this playful but informative math concept book that takes the fear out of math and puts the fun back in.
There s a wisecracking cartoon kid who accompanies readers throughout and makes silliness and math
seem to go together like pretzels and salt. It s a tremendous learning package that will be as pleasing
to math teachers as it is to the kids who will probably discover this book on their own. The
illustrations by Nancy Tobin capture the reader s eye with her colorful and aesthetically appealing
pictures.
I believe this book will be very affective because it gets children involved with geometry first hand
and lets them find shapes, not just in food, but where ever they go. Using healthy foods to learn
geometry will also develop an interest in trying new things as well. Learning shapes through an
interactive activity will help them develop a relationship with finding shapes and problem solving
without even realizing it! Developing a fun activity with a lesson engages students and captures their
full attention.

Alcohol Alcoholism And Alcohol Abuse Essay
Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are different, although they have several connected characteristics,
including genetics, how you were raised, social environment, and emotional health. Some of the
following are indicators of alcohol abuse e.g., craving alcohol, having tried to quit in the past, but
could not, spending longer time drinking than you expected, or continuing to drink even though it
causes trouble with family or friends. An alcoholic is someone who has no control over alcohol and is
unable to live a normal or healthy life; consequently, it causes a psychological and physical
dependence upon alcohol. Alcoholics typically experience physical withdrawals when not drinking.
Both disorders have a significant attribute for risky behavior e.g., drinking and driving or unsafe sex.
Alcohol distresses all parts of the body, particularly the brain, pancreas, liver, and heart.
Hereditary factors attribute to whether the individual has a propensity towards alcohol abuse, while
studies indicate that there is a greater risk factor if there is a family history of substance abuse.
Lineages can transport a gene that makes individuals more susceptible to becoming an alcoholic. This
is only part of the calculation; the other takes account our environment Our hereditary behaviors
interact with our environment to form the basis of our decisions. (www.addictioncenter.com) some
people are more sensitive to stress and use alcohol as a way of soothing their self.

Suicide Is A Serious Issue
Suicide is one of the largest social problems today affecting many lives in one way or another. It is a
serious issue with multiple contributors that have been elusive in many cases as we try to understand
why many younger people are choosing to end their lives instead of receive the help they need.
Suicide is a serious issue that can have lasting results on individuals, families and communities.
Although suicide rates decreased from 1990 2000, suicide is on the rise again and now the 10th
leading cause of death in the US for all ages (SAVE | Suicide Facts. n.d.). The causes of suicide are
complex and unique to each, therefore, with effective prevention approaches, patient rights, and
options as well as resources available to those experiencing suicidal ideations, we can promote
awareness of suicide and encourage social change. Funding for community resources has been
shrinking for decades, and it is becoming problematic for many of those who are in urgent need of
psychiatric attention. Access to comprehensive, quality mental health service is often compounded by
discriminatory barriers such as high costs and lack of insurance coverage. These restrictions imposed
by insurance companies as well as policies and procedures delay patients from receiving appropriate

Supranuclear Palsy Essay
Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Overview
This condition, also known as syndrome Steele Richardson Olszewski, is a movement disorder caused
by injury to bound nerve cells of the brain; you are doing not know the cause. Progressive
supranuclear palsy (PSP) can be genetic in nature (transmitted within the family), or due to a virus or
exposure to toxins.
The symptoms are similar to those of many other neurological and psychiatric disorders; this
complicates the diagnosis and led to the establishment of a list of criteria (symptoms and not
symptoms).
Causes
The exact cause of PSP is unknown, although several hypotheses have been formulated. In some
cases, the disease appears to be inherited (transmitted within the family), which suggests the ... Show

disorders:
Response to treatment with the drug levodopa (Parkinson s disease);
hallucinations or delusions (of Lewy body disease);
Alien limb syndrome (hand or other limb that moves without conscious control, a typical
manifestation of corticobasal degeneration).
Treatment
Because there are no cures, neurologists can only try to alleviate the symptoms. To cope with the
emotional problems, such as depression and apathy, you can prescribe antidepressants, such as:
duloxetine (Cymbalta)
Aripiprazole (Abilify)
Escitalopram (Cipralex)
Many symptoms of PSP can not only be treated with oral agents; for example, to spasms of the eyelids
are pointed injections of botulinum toxin, while the exposure keratitis (dry eye caused by an
inadequate eyelid closure) can be treated with eye drops.
Given the progression of symptoms, it will be necessary to intervene with therapies other than drugs.
Patients will need help to walk and talk, and measures can be adopted for this purpose includes:

Karl Popper s Philosophy Of Science
When one gets asked, what is science? The answer may seem straightforward: biology, physics,
chemistry, etc. However, asking the same question to a philosopher, the answer is completely
different. In other words, Philosophers are not asking for a mere list of sciences but, are seeking to
answer one specific question: What is it that makes something a science. In further detail, the
Philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy concerned with the foundations, methods, and
implications of science. Therefore, the three main questions are: what qualify as science, how reliable
are scientific theories, and what is the ultimate purpose of science. This discipline overlaps with
metaphysics, ontology, and epistemology, for example, when it explores the relationship between
science and truth. In addition to these general questions about science as a whole, philosophers of
science consider problems that apply to particular sciences (such as biology or physics). In this essay,
I will be introducing and discussing Karl popper s philosophy of science and its criticisms. To begin,
Karl popper s philosophical view of science is often referred to falsificationism, something to be
proven false. This is shown through this example: If Socrates is a god, then Socrates is immortal.
Socrates is not immortal. Therefore, Socrates is not a god. In other words, Popper s philosophy of
science is that scientific knowledge progresses by a series of conjectures and refutations; these

first tastes of action in pursuit of Mexico s legendary Pancho Villa in 1916 with the U.S. Cavalry. He
was later transferred to the new Armored branch as the first U.S. Commander of Armor. During World
War I, Patton was struck by machine gun fire and was seriously wounded, narrowly escaping a
possible death. (1). After being wounded, Patton stayed in the armed forces and continued to head the
Armored division during the time of peace. Soon enough Patton s expertise and services would be

beginning of the tumultuous World War II. The United States didn t declare any involvement in this
European campaign until December 15, 1941, more than two years later. This war was fought in
Europe, against Germany, to oppose Germany s rapid march toward a militaristic society. An

Gustav Mahler And His Fifth Symphony
Gustav Mahler and His 5th Symphony By the end of the 20th century, Gustav Mahler had established
himself as one of the most loved and frequently performed symphonists of the modern era. Audiences
enjoyed his work for the energy and emotion conveyed through each and every performance of his
symphonies. Due to his particularly rich and provocative writing style, Mahler has become the
influence of composers since his death and continues to remain at the forefront of modern musical
symphonic consideration. According to modern records, Mahler was born July 7, 1860 in a small
village in Bohemia. However, some scholars suggest that he and his family actually celebrated his
birthday on the 1st of July each year (Stefan 9). He was of Jewish descent and the second of his
parents fourteen children, although more than half of his siblings did not survive infancy (Stefan 9).
Mahler s Jewish heritage would later become a hindrance to his career due to politics of his given
region. Nevertheless, Mahler grew up under his father, who ran a local business, and had a nurturing
family life (Stefan 12). Like many other great composers of the past, Gustav Mahler was a fantastic
musician even as a child. He began his musical endeavors at the age of four but discovered the piano
later at age six. He was skilled to the point that he acquired a student of his own before he turned
eight. He made a flattering wage of one cent an hour during this period of his career (Stefan 12). The

Robert K. Merton s The Rich Get Richer And The Poor Get...
Matthew effect has different meaning in each field. For example, in sociology is the where the rich get
richer and the poor get poorer. Robert K. Merton states in his book Social Theory and Social Structure
In both its original and typical usage it is meant metaphorically to refer to issues of fame or status but
it may also be used literally to refer to cumulative advantage of economic capital (Merton, 7) Matthew
effect or the story of success can be the answer of same question that many people might have. Why
some people are more successful than others? The answer couldn t be just their intelligence or hard
working, as Malcolm Gladwell explains in his book. There would be many more reasons to make a
person successful. If we want to understand that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also
we need to spend more time and research about everything around him such as culture, family, and
their habit. One of Gladwell mention in his book is about the hockey players. The players don t have
same situation and opportunities to be chosen in the team. It is hard to imagine the difference of the
age for some months will effect on the young student chance to be elected on the team. As well
Barnsley in Outliers argues that these kinds of skewed age distributions exist whenever three things
happen: selection, streaming, and differentiated experience. (Gladwell, 25) However, Gladwell named
many of the elements which will be effective such as date of birth, family, and

Angela Merkel As A Positive Role Model For Women
WOMEN
Justin, 16
1. What three qualities/adjectives do you associate with males? Stronger, more carefree, more social
2. What three qualities/adjectives do you associate with females? Intelligent, more clearly expressive,
greater self control
3. What 2 women (living or dead) do you see as positive role models for women? Why? Angela
Merkel is a good role model for women because she is an example of an intelligent woman who has
used her skills to take an effective position of power upon the world stage.
Mother Theresa is a good example of a woman who was strong in faith, and who was take charge, but
still humble and selfless.

9. What do you enjoy most about being male/female? I most enjoy the freedom of style that men
experience, which requires much less time and burden than typical female clothing and beauty. I also
enjoy possessing (some) of the greater athletic aptitude that men have.
10. What changes have you seen/do you think you will see regarding the role of men/women in
society during your lifetime? I think that in my lifetime, for better or for worse, men and women will
become much less defined from each other, and less expected to fit gender roles. I see how this can
benefit, but I worry that the consequences will be much worse. History shows that an ill defined
society tends to fall apart, and I worry that once we cross a certain threshold as a society, that we too
will fall apart.
11. What advice would you give (other gender) to help in the relationships? For men, I would suggest
to try and be more genuinely empathetic of how women are feeling and thinking. It is important to
actually try to understand what your female counterpart is saying, and take that with genuine attention,
concern, and thought.

Mary Shelley Is The Author Of The Famed Novel Frankenstein.
Mary Shelley is the author of the famed novel Frankenstein. The era in which Frankenstein was
published happened to be one where religion was followed in more of a strict manner than today s
society follows. The monster in the novel was viewed as an abomination not only in its existence, but
even as an idea. Although the novel was released unanimously, it was critiqued mostly from a
religious standpoint. Critiques gave reviews saying that it was unintellectual work that was not worth
the time it took to read because they saw it as a threat to their religion. Mary Shelley herself never
specified anything for or against religion, although her husband did. Once it was discovered that Mary
Shelley was in fact the author of Frankenstein, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary never knew her mother because she died a few days after childbirth, and the woman that her
father remarried to was not an ideal or loving mother figure. She and Shelley did not get along at all.
Once she came into the picture, Mary did not enjoy her life at home. She loved her little family, but
she yearned to get away from all of their chaos. That s why she would go and read or write by her
mother s grave or in any other calm place she could find. That s also why she created Frankenstein s
mother to be so loving, gentle, patient, and nurturing. She made Frankenstein s mother based off of the
way she viewed her own departed mother in her head, and the way that Frankenstein suddenly wanted
to prevent death and disease because of her death was probably what Shelley wished she could have
done for the mother she never knew.
Mary also used many of her mother s beliefs in the novel. Wollstonecraft had a very hard life in her
early days. She lived in a financially unstable home and was taken over by domestic abuse and alcohol
addiction. Motivated by the life she once endured, he decided to support herself as a professional
writer rather than remaining dependent on others to care for her. She always wrote about the political
and philosophical issues in the world. An example of this would be her writing about the wrong inherit
rights of not only women, but of men. She believed in the concept of men and women in society
having equal rights to education. She fought

Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill Case Study
The Bp spill in the Gulf of Mexico is considered to be one of the biggest oil spill disasters. The Bp oil
spill affect many people and the environment. The oil spill was an oil disaster and globally financial
disaster, and it had a negative impact on the sea and the oceans around it. the oil spread everywhere,
and it affected every living animals that came in contact with it. However, many tries were made to try
to stop the leak, but all failed until the leak was declared officially closed by the us government.
According to the BP and the Deepwater Horizon Disaster of 2010 states that the Deepwater Horizon,
17 were injured, including Williams, and 11 were killed. The rig burned for 36 hours, combusting the
700,000 gallons of oil that were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Bp has demonstrated a disturbing measure of corrupt behavior, including government
wrongdoings. Legitimate issues began the first time in 1998, when a temporary worker was gotten
wrongfully dumping several gallons of dangerous waste into lustgraten well. An investigation of state
records shows that the company is the most exceedingly awful in the business as far as oil slicks and
put people in harm. It was also revealed that many of the rig workers had made reported about issues
on the oil rig and were ignored by Bp and that shows how the company was reported by the issues by
whistle blowers and they were ignored by the company. I believe that in any team project the company
should have the obligation to stop any further issues and provide the safety of the workers if there was
reported an issue. It was known that the Blowout Preventer was one of the main reasons that the spill
was as big as it was. According to a company Transocean which tested the Blowout preventer many
times, but it was suggested that it was defective but Bp ignored the failure of the Blowout prevented. I
think it was the company s fault the part was not fixed and taken proper response to it but it wasn t and
that what caused the uncontrollable spill and for the engineers it was there obligation to take a stand
against the company because it s their ethical obligation to their coworker

  • 2. Benefits And Treatment Of Dissociative Identity Disorder Diazepam Paired With Psychotherapy Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder that is hardly talked about, however has extreme effects on patients that suffer with it. However, this topic is important because it can lead to finding treatments that may be more effective for patients with DID. Past studies have shown that the main treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorder usually involves therapy. The most popular types of therapy are psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and family therapy. Treatment for DID has a specific purpose which is to unite an individual with their personalities, and form a functional identity (Pais, 2009). Additionally, a strength of past studies is that they usually do a follow up on patients. Another strength is that the participants are usually all of different ages. One limitation is that there is never enough participants for research, another limitation is that there aren t many treatment options to try on patients. Furthermore, is diazepam useful when paired with psychotherapy? Moreover, my study will be unique because there has only been one case that tried lorazepam, which is a similar drug to diazepam, and it proved to be successful (Mushtaq, Shoib, Arif, Shah, Mushtaq, 2014). Also, my study will have more than one patient, to have more accurate results. Finally, diazepam and psychotherapy could be a good treatment for DID. Method Participants/Subjects It ... • 3. A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep The Production Code attempted to censor sex and violence in film of the 1930 s and 40 s. Instead of impairing, it encouraged directors to use artistic ideas and integrity to surpass the viewers expectations actively involving them in the film despite Hollywood s censorship. Howard Hawks is one such director who used the restrictions of the Production Code to his advantage. His screen adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel The Big Sleep portrays the same amount of sexuality and violence apparent in the written word, using a distinctly subtle style, which develops broader themes. Comparisons with the extremely dull 70 s remake by Michael Winner further suggest the superiority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these endings work well in their respective mediums. There is no written law that says a producer or director has to strictly reinforce all the themes of the novel that are being adapted to the screen. If this were true that would make for an entirely dull piece of work, which brings me to the Michael Winner version. Lacking the stars of Bogart and Bacall, the film inserts sexuality by glorifying Carmen Sternwood s nude body at every opportunity. She appears quite a few times, as Chandler would say; in her birthday suit alongside a gratuitous shot of the Schoolgirls porno magazine that Geiger distributes. The problem does not lay in the vulgarity of this blatant flamboyance of flesh; however, it adheres to the common false mystique that exhibitionism equals sex appeal. Another fault in Michael Winners remake is its strict adherence to the plot of the novel. The relationship between Vivian and Marlowe in the movie is non existent. It seems as though Robert Mitchum, playing Marlowe, has more fun flirting with Agnes, played by Joan Collins, in Geiger s bookstore than with the snotty, senior Sternwood sister. Leaving Eddie Mars gambling casino, Marlowe kisses Vivian in an attempt to find out, what Eddie Mars has on her. However, Vivian is not pleased with Marlowe s prodding and shrieks, so that s the way it is you rotten bastard. As illustrated in the book, this scene depicts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory The motivation of a human being is an interesting subject. There many reasons for a person to do the same action. There are also many theories of the motivation of a human being. For this paper, the authors will look at the motivation of Theodore Roosevelt to fulfill Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. We will look how President Roosevelt was motivated to act throughout his life through each stage of the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow s Theory The Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs theory is a theory that attempts to summarize motivation. Maslow s theory is a biopsychosocial theory of motivation. A biopsychosocial theory means that it accounts for the biological needs and the psychosocial needs of a person. (Carpenter Huffman, 2013) Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory was first developed by Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper. (Maslow, 1943) Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory works simply. It says that a person will meet baser or more primitive needs first before fulfilling more advanced or sophisticated needs. To the lay person, thus seems to be true. The hierarchy of needs are in the following order from simple to complicated: Physiological Needs Hunger, thirst, and maintenance of internal state of the body; Safety Needs to feel secure and safe, to seek pleasure and avoid pain; Belonging and Love Needs to affiliate with others, be accepted, and give and receive affection; Esteem Needs to achieve, be competent, gain approval, and excel; and Self Actualization Needs ... • 5. Christian Worldview And The Secular Worldview Of Account To compare the Christian worldview to the secular worldview of account, one must understand the definition of what a worldview is and what a Christian worldview looks like as well as what a secular worldview looks. According to Valk (2012), Worldviews are those larger pictures that inform and in turn form our perceptions of reality. They are visions of life as well as ways of life, are individual and personal, yet bind adherents together communally (p. 1). It is not uncommon for individuals to have different worldviews because the meaning of the word is a set of beliefs one uses to understand the world. All people grow up viewing the world differently because to the different things they experience in their lives. A worldview defines the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here the only thing that matters is a man. Within secular philosophy individuals only trust the scientific method to know anything. So basically, if something can t be observed, tested, or experimented, then it does not exist. This is why there is no room for spirituality because it can t be tested, so that means it does not exist. Secular ethics are based on what humans decide as far as standards and values. Humans depend on science, reason, and a historical experience to figure out what is right and what is wrong. It s tricky because standards will not be the same for everyone because everyone has a different background and reason. There are different views within secular science, psychology, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history which are all based on man and mans perspective. Overall secular humanist view everything from the standpoint of what is seen and what can be known the senses. Hitchcock (1994) stated the following: The ultimate failure of Secular Humanism is in the fact that of its very nature is promises what it cannot fulfill. By encouraging people to put their trust in earthly happiness, it programs them for disillusionment. This is in no small measure the reason why the history of the modern world has been characterized, intellectually, by philosophies of pessimism like Existentialism and by often rancorous bitterness over various plans for worldly improvement. Life science curriculum is filled with controversial topics ranging from evolution to climate change to GMO s to vaccines to human impacts on the Earth. Teaching these topics are essential to building both the science literacy and the environmental literacy that I am passionate for in students; however, the methodology used is complicated, muddy and stressful. He highlights climate changes through his examples because it s common to promote the lack of scientific consensus on climate change, which is not recognized by most scientists. In using misconception based instruction, teaching just the scientific facts is not the only route to education; instead, the scientific concepts are presented along with refuting common misconceptions regarding the scientific topics. Critical thinking is important and teaching students to evaluate information or sources is even more important; however, learning is also about presenting new information and fitting this new knowledge into the existing mental models students have (Kunkle Monroe, 2015, p. 153). The article Vale expansion puts Australia s global mining market share at risk, Roy Hill head warns is a rather simple business news piece communicating Vale s decision to increase production with third party commentary responding to the announcement. At high level it focuses on the actions of firms in the iron ore production market and in doing so reveals a range of drivers influencing decision making by firms. These decisions can be described and understood through economic theory. Vale is not the only iron ore producer in the market so consideration of the market structure is important to understand firm decision making. The chart provides information by four firms, Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), Vale, Rio Tinto, BHP (WAIO) and the rest of the world. According to this data set these four producers accounts for approximately 65% 70% of iron ore produced for the export market. This suggests the market has medium level of concentration reflecting a scenario of monopolistic competition. Another aspect to consider when examining the iron ore export market is the degree of product differentiation between iron ore producing firms. Product differentiation impacts the ability or preference of buyers to substitute products, in this case iron ore, produced by different firms. Iron ore is mined in a variety of different types; hematite, goethite, limonite and magnetite which contain different concentrations of iron. If the iron ore of a firm is considered to be of higher quality than other firms, then lower quality iron ore from other firms may be considered an imperfect substitute . Firms may undertake at additional cost beneficiation processes cost to improve their product. The article notes Vale will offer a 63 per cent blended product to the market which would compete directly with Australian producers. • 12. Review on the Movie Crash FILM SYNOPSIS: In Crash, a simple car accident forms an uncompromising foundation for the complex discovery of race and prejudice. Paul Haggis overwhelming and incredibly thought provoking directorial debut succeeds in bringing to the forefront the behaviours that many people keep under their skin. And by thrusting these attitudes toward us with a highly deliberate, reckless abandon, Haggis puts racism on the highest pedestal for our review. Crash is a film of collisions: vehicles, personalities, attitudes, stereotypes, conventions, and ultimately audience expectations. We crash into each other, just so we can feel something, Don Cheadle murmurs contemplatively in a clunky opening scene thesis statement that nevertheless sums up the film s approach as well as its premise. Writer director Paul Haggis definitely wants you to feel something, and spends the rest of the film doing his best to blindside your expectations, spin your emotions around and overturn your preconceptions. The content can be incredibly harsh at times, with constant obscenity and a number of deeply wrenching scenes. Yet Crash looks at our obsession with race and raises some sensitive issues with startling frankness. Is a man who risks his life to save another any less a hero if he is also a bigot? How do you weigh one against the other, or average out the two to define the overall moral worth of the man? Neither detracts from or cancels out the other; they are both simply sheer facts about a person, with no way to mediate or relate them to one another, other than the fact that they are convincingly predicated of one and the same person. Still, the film finds real moral ambiguity in the struggles of a number of characters, above all Cheadle s detective, who wrestles with various personal and professional issues and above all wishes to keep them separate. Both works of writing display war as a painful and and traumatizing experience. However, this poem reflects the message in The Things They Carried chapter, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong most accurately. Both the chapter and the poem share the theme that war can take away a person s humanity. In the lines, We ve dug a hole, called a trench, Humanity is gone, replaced with stench (Dejnicki) the author is trying to convey that a soldier in war can have their humanity striped away and uses the symbolism of stench to describe the foul persona that may replace it. While it was not completely welcome to women, there were more chances for them. Maria was one of the most important figures of mathematics in the 18th century. Maria Gaetana Agnesi was born on May 16, 1718 in Milan to a wealthy literate family. She was the oldest of 21 children that her father (a wealthy silk merchant) had with his three wives. Such technology has given mankind the power to produce desired children from a cellular level, but at the same time offer families the freedom to abort the unwanted. In his article, Rajendra Kale (2012) argues that healthcare professionals should not inform parents the sex of the unborn until 30 weeks of pregnancy to avoid termination. First of all, Kale argues that many feticides are prevailing due to the mere fact that the fetus is a female. He believes that many families use gender balance among their children as a decent reason to allow female feticide (2012). This is clearly not a decent enough reason; it is discrimination and an excuse to kill an undesired sex. Little also supports this argument. She uses an analogy that a girl should not end her pregnancy for the fact that she just wants to fit into a party dress as an adequate reason(2005). To do so, is just a blind act of defiancey. There are many more prejudiced reasons around the world that families use to opt for termination. Both Kale and Little would agree that such filial reasons should not be used to extinguish a fetal life. Next, Kale argues that women face emotional and physical trauma due to family pressures. Many societies pressure woman to abort their kin against their will. Kale believes that his 30 week policy would put an end to such practices, even if temporarily. The reason for this claim is because without the knowledge of the fetus s sex, families are forced to continue the pregnancy. Alcohol Alcoholism And Alcohol Abuse Essay Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are different, although they have several connected characteristics, including genetics, how you were raised, social environment, and emotional health. Some of the following are indicators of alcohol abuse e.g., craving alcohol, having tried to quit in the past, but could not, spending longer time drinking than you expected, or continuing to drink even though it causes trouble with family or friends. An alcoholic is someone who has no control over alcohol and is unable to live a normal or healthy life; consequently, it causes a psychological and physical dependence upon alcohol. • 34. Karl Popper s Philosophy Of Science When one gets asked, what is science? The answer may seem straightforward: biology, physics, chemistry, etc. However, asking the same question to a philosopher, the answer is completely different. In other words, Philosophers are not asking for a mere list of sciences but, are seeking to answer one specific question: What is it that makes something a science. In further detail, the Philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy concerned with the foundations, methods, and implications of science. Therefore, the three main questions are: what qualify as science, how reliable are scientific theories, and what is the ultimate purpose of science. This discipline overlaps with metaphysics, ontology, and epistemology, for example, when it explores the relationship between science and truth. In addition to these general questions about science as a whole, philosophers of science consider problems that apply to particular sciences (such as biology or physics). In this essay, I will be introducing and discussing Karl popper s philosophy of science and its criticisms. To begin, Karl popper s philosophical view of science is often referred to falsificationism, something to be proven false. This is shown through this example: If Socrates is a god, then Socrates is immortal. Socrates is not immortal. Therefore, Socrates is not a god. Due to his particularly rich and provocative writing style, Mahler has become the influence of composers since his death and continues to remain at the forefront of modern musical symphonic consideration. According to modern records, Mahler was born July 7, 1860 in a small village in Bohemia. There have been incessant calls for the multi national corporations( MNCs ) operating in the area to demonstrate the value of their investments to Nigeria by undertaking increased corporate social responsibility( CSR ) initiatives that provide for environmental friendly practices as well as direct social benefits such as local employment, new infrastructure, schools and improved health care delivery. In addition, the Nigerian regulatory measures enforcing the adoption of codes and conduct of CSR policies by these companies, their reporting practices and interaction with leading CSR institutions have either been non existent or inadequately formulated and have therefore failed the entire population. There would be many more reasons to make a person successful. If we want to understand that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also we need to spend more time and research about everything around him such as culture, family, and their habit. One of Gladwell mention in his book is about the hockey players. The players don t have same situation and opportunities to be chosen in the team. It is hard to imagine the difference of the age for some months will effect on the young student chance to be elected on the team. As well Barnsley in Outliers argues that these kinds of skewed age distributions exist whenever three things happen: selection, streaming, and differentiated experience.
