The Colonialism Of The Walt Disney Company
My topic is the colonialism of The Walt Disney Company. When defining colonialism, I will be
referring to two general definitions that are applicable to modern day colonialism as seen through
cultural appropriation, and cultural commodification of Disney and the tourist industry. Oxford
Dictionaries defines colonialismas, the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political
control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically, and
Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy s defines colonialism as, a practice of domination, which
involves the subjugation of one people to another. My case study is the Disney movie, Moana. I am
focusing on Moana because it is the most recent Disney animated film... Show more content on

I will use box office sales and other prominent statistics associated with the Disney company to help
demonstrate the influence Disney has on the public. Pedagogy scholars Kevin M. Tavin and David
Anderson s journal article, Teaching (Popular) Visual Culture: Deconstructing Disney in the
Elementary Art Classroom informs readers of the power of the Disney company in all medias to
create individual and collective identities (23). In journal article, Tackling MДЃori Masculinity: A
Colonial Genealogy of Savagery and Sport , MДЃori scholar Brendan Hokowhitu will build off this
source by not only referencing cultural stereotypes formed by others, due to the media, but also
identities formed about one s own native culture and heritage. He uses a direct example of MДЃori
men stereotypes. I plan to synthesize many of my sources like this: with one showing a various
perspective (i.e. pedagogical or colonial) on the Disney company and another highlighting the point
of view from a Polynesian.
The book, Waves of Resistance, by Isaiah Helekunihi Walker, a Hawaiian surfer and scholar of
Hawaiian history and colonialism, delves into Polynesian stereotypes that have been present since
eighteenth century colonialism. This source provides background on this topic for my paper. These
Polynesian stereotypes include women sexualized with coconut bras and grass skirts, and men
portrayed as ignorant savages.

Differences In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
The world contains an outrageous amount of similarities and differences that involve with today s
society and the society of Waknuk that deals with human intolerance in one way or another. The
Chrysalids by John Wyndham include some similarities within our society and Waknuk that
demonstrate how quickly people judge others according to their physical appearance and the racism
that still exist in both societies. An example of a differenceis that there are many different religion
and beliefs today compared to the society of Waknuk. Humankinds are prejudiced in countless
different manners because of the bitterness and cruelty inside humanity s heart and mind.
As society develops, the more injustice human grows by how everyone make conclusions on a
person based on external image. First and foremost, the society of Waknuk are very harsh about the
definition and the true image of God that sadly they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start with, when Sophie and her family ran away in fear because f Sophie being a deviant,
according to Uncle Axel, I m telling you, he went on, that a lot of people saying that a thing is
so, doesn t prove it is so. I m telling that nobody, nobody really knows what the image is (64), this
demonstrates that even though a person may look different it is not for one today if it right or
not. Along with the words of Alex Haley, Racism is taught in our society, it is not automatic. It
is learned behavior toward persons with dissimilar physical characteristics, clearly proves that
everyone has their own opinion, but it does not mean that one must force it onto other people.
Another example would be how people on Mississippi made up a rule that black people are
allowed to be ridiculed and isolated from everyone else because of how they have different skin
color compared to others. In conclusion, racism is a common problem because many people

Interval Training
One of the fastest ways to lose body fat and get a ripped body is by incorporating interval
training into your workout routine. Interval training involves periods of high intensity effort
followed by recovery periods of less intense physical activity. The benefits of such training
include: 1. You will be able to achieve more in each individual workout. The amount of high
intensity work you can do in a session increases, as you get a chance to recover in between. 2. You
will increase the amount of calories you burn. Interval training uses mainly carbohydrate rather
than fat for energy, but because of its higher intensity level it burns more calories overall. 3. You
challenge both your aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. This provides your

I. Introduction
Bridging the distance between nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Gerard Manley Hopkins poetry is
of great significance. As often the case with innovators and artists who are ahead of their times,
Gerard Manley Hopkins was torn by contradictions and his poems regarded as unconventional for
the historical period. His works are specifically marked by the varied use of linguistic features and
rhythmic patterns which did not match the traditional writing styles of the ... Show more content on

Some of the recurrent themes and motifs in Hopkins poetry include the idea that the world
resembles a book written by God, through which he expresses himself in order to provide humans
with an opportunity to understand and approach him (Gardner 11). In God s Grandeur Hopkins
can be seen to express his concern about the spiritual crisis of the Victorian period. During this time
of urbanization and industrialization, Hopkins voiced his distress about human indifference to
destruction. This poem is one of the very few which he wrote during the time when he served as a
priest.
The form of God s Grandeur is an Italian sonnet, but with some alteration. Even though Hopkins
does not use sprung rhythm here, he varies his sonnet structure from the traditional iambic
pentameter. Typically, a sonnet contains 3 quatrains (4 lines) and a couplet (2 lines); the Italian
sonnet is characterized by having 1 octave (8 lines) and 1 sestet (6 lines). In God s Grandeur a
similar pattern is followed, however, Hopkins presents a technique he often employs in other
works as well, that of using the octet to present a personal or a sensory experience and the octet in
order to provide some reflection on the topic (Gardner 221).
God s Grandeur paints a poignant image of the destructiveness of contemporary human life, in
particular, in the second quatrain. The second quatrain also presents a feature that is specific for
Hopkins and different from the rhythm of the Italian

Gender Discrimination In Nursing
Today, most people perceive nursing as a women profession. Men who enter this field have been
looked at as outcasts. Many individuals feel that a man does not belong in a female profession. I
believe that statement to be untrue and unfair. The issue of gender discrimination in nursing is the
same as any other professions. The only difference is nursing is dominated by women, and men are
the minority fighting for equality. My goal in this paper is to help you understand why I m arguing
that men should be welcomed in the nursing profession. Genderor sex discriminationinvolves
treating an employee or a category of employees differently because of gender. Whenever this
discrimination affects the terms or conditions of employment, it is illegal. Gender based different
treatment of employees with regard to pay, title, position, hours worked and vacation time is
generally considered illegal and wrong. Just 2.7 percent of the working nursing population in the
United States are men. To understand why nursing is dominated by women we have to analyze the
history. Malenurses may belong, but there s still not many around. According to the U.S. Labor
Department statistics, 6.7 percent of registered nurses were male. Gender discrimination in
nursing exists because of prejudices male students encounter in the classroom, in the workplace
and with patients. Over the years discrimination of males in the nursing has declined but just like
racial discrimination it still exists. To understand gender discrimination in nursing we must first
understand the past. Nursing was found in the 3rd century in ancient Rome and was dominated
by men. Since the 20th century women have dominated the nursing profession. Actually, in the
1897 American Nurse Association was founded, and no men were allowed. The rule eventually
changed in 1930, allowing men the right to be a nurse. Are male nurses accepted by female
nurses? I feel like if you are in the nursing profession and don t understand that there is a shortage
of nurses in the world then it shouldn t matter if they are male or female. Every gender should be
accepted. The require for male nurses is on a rise, partly because there is a growing demand for
nurses in general. That also

Franchising Is A Long Term Essay
Nowadays, franchising is one of the easiest ways to start a business. Franchising is defined as a
long term, continuing business relationship wherein for consideration, the franchisor grants to the
franchise a licensed right, subject to agreed requirements and restrictions, to condusct business
utilising the trade and/or service marks of the franchisor and also provides to the franchisee advice
and assistance in organising, merchandising, and managing the business conducted to the licensee
пЃ›1пЃќ. The company granting these rights in deemed the franchisor, the receiver of these
rights the franchisee, and the right is defined as the franchise. The franchiser owns a trademark or
brand, which he (or she) agrees to allow the franchisee to use for a fee (often an original purchase
price plus a percentage of sales). The franchiser provides the franchisee with assistance (financial,
choice of site, and so on) in setting up their operation, and then maintains continuing control over
various aspects of the franchisee s business; for example, via the supply of products, discussion of
their marketingplans and/or centralized staff training пЃ›2пЃќ.
The franchising arrangement may be viewed as an agency relationship in which the franchisor
(principal) is reliant upon franchisees (agents) to undertake actions on their behalf пЃ›3пЃќ.
Franchising organizations differ from other business, based on three important points пЃ›4пЃќ are:
1.Geographic dispersal of organizations units
2.Replication across

Accounting Paper
Introduction
In recent decades, the global economy has undergone a rapid transformation, from an economy
driven by traditional hard assets plants, warehouses and the like , to an economy driven by
patents, software, intellectual property, and brands. These items fall into a category that has
become hugely important in the world of financial reporting, intangible assets . Increasingly, the
value of a firm is derived not from its tangible assets such as stock, property, plant and equipment
but by its knowledge capital, its employees, even by its business processes. As Baruch Lev notes in
2001:

They were able to conclude that the usefulness of reported earnings, cash flows, and book (equity)
values has been deteriorating over the years . The decline in the usefulness of accounting is a result
of the difficulties in measuring an internally developed intangible asset, firstly how does one assign
a value to knowledge capital, secondly, what is the fair value of this capital if no exchange has
taken place? In the interest of conservatism and reliability, regulators require all investments in R
amp;D to be immediately expensed. This creates a problem since the benefits of this research are
not realized until a later period, thus the concept of matching goes out the window. This increased
expenditure resulting from R amp;D expenditure distorts earnings on the income statement. In the
event of a merger or an acquisition (M amp;A), in accordance with APB Opinion 17, any excess
amount paid over the book value for a firm would be listed under the catch all term goodwill
which was amortized over 40 years. As a result of these regulation standards, the gap between the
market value of technology firms and their book value became ever larger.
Efforts to Improve Financial Reporting
The dangers of this ineffective accounting for intangibles were brought into a stark light in 2001
following the collapse of energy giant Enron, which once had been widely considered to be one of

Penny Synthesis Essay
The production of the one cent piece has long been a topic of controversy. Some argue for the
penny saying that the penny has been a part of U.S. history for over 200 years; while those on the
opposing side argue that eliminating the penny could save retail businesses time and therefore
money by saving the time wasted counting pennies at the register. Some argue that we should phase
out pennies because the value is so little that no one uses them; In fact, the face value of the penny
is so little that it costs more to produce it. Because of the downsides to the continued production of
the penny, we ought to phase the penny out. One reason pennies should be eliminated is that they
waste the time of retail businesses. According to Dr. Robert... Show more content on

The purpose of currency is to be exchanged for goods and/or services. However if the value of the
coin is too low, no one is going to bother to use it because it cannot buy anything. According to
source #2, the United States Department of Defense deemed the penny not cost effective to ship
because it weighed so much and was worth so little. Foreign military bases use a rounding system
that rounds to the nearest nickel. Source #2 states, The rounding system seems to work well for
the military, and some experts such as Harvard professor N. Gregory Mankiw want to do the same
in the entire United States. . Based on this quote, we can conclude that eliminating the penny would
not have any significant adverse effects as it seems to work well on military bases. In addition to
United State military bases, Canada no longer produces the one cent piece. Jim Flaherty, the
Canadian finance minister, believes that the value of the coin is so low that we find ourselves
throwing them away in water fountains, storing them away in jars, and simply not reusing them as

Evaluation Of Glucosylceramide Synthase ( Gcs )
Abstract
Glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of
glucosylceramide (GlcCer) related glycosphingolipids (GSLs). In the present report we have used
atom based 3D QSAR method to analyze the structural aspect on a series of iminosugar derivatives
as potent inhibitors of glycosylceramide synthase. In this approach the experimental dataset was
divided into training and test sets and the model was chosen based on randomized trial distribution
which has high correlation factors. A ligandbased pharmacophore and atom based 3D QSAR
studies were carried out on a set of 65 inhibitors of GCS. After the QSAR studies, a five point
pharmacophore with two hydrogen bond acceptors (A), two hydrophobic group (H) and one ring
aromaticity (R) was obtained. The pharmacophore hypothesis yielded a 3D QSAR model with
good partial least square statistics results. The training set correlation has these partial least square
factors (R2=0.92, SD = 0.178, F = 843.9, P = 1.12e 15). The test set correlation has these partial
least square factors (Q2 = 0.25, RMSE = 0.665, Pearson R =0.54).
After the QSAR studies, docking study is being carried out. The docking study will reveal the
binding orientation of the active ligands on the protein which will be completed in BTP phase II.
The result for QSAR and docking studies will provide structural characteristics of the active ligands
and also give detailed information about binding features which can useful

The Battle Of Palo Alto
The Battle of Palo Alto The Battle of Palo Alto was the first major battle of the Mexican
American War. The Mexican Army of the North engaged the United States Army of Occupation
on a prairie near current day Brownsville, Texas. The conflict took place on May 8th, 1846 and
was followed the next by the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, about five miles south. Both battles
took place in an area of disputed ownership and, depending on the side, were on the only battles on
American soil. Thousands of Americans, who changed citizenship and received large tracts of land
from the Mexican government, rebelled in Texas in 1835 for several reasons, including Mexicos

In November of 1845, President Polk named Senator James Slidell of Louisiana as the new
American minster to Mexico (Haecker, 1994), and was sent to secretly negotiate with Mexican
President Jose Joaquin de Herrera. However, he was overthrown by General Mariano Parades y
Arrillaga, Commander of the Army of the North, who denied negotiation with the Americans and
demanded the return of the disputed area of Texas. During this time, Polk ordered General Zachary
Taylor, who was preemptively stationed at Corpus Christi, to move his unit down to Port Isabel at
the mouth of the Rio Grande and Gulf of Mexico. This only increased tensions between the two
nations, which came to a height with the construction of the U.S. Fort Texas on the north bank of
the Rio Grande, opposite the Mexican town of Matamoros, a natural choke point (Carney, 2005).
Up to the War, the American and Mexican armies were about as much the same as they were
different. The American force, renamed the U.S. Army of Occupation, was led by General
Taylor who had severed in the army since the War of 1812 and was known by his men as Old

My First Certificate Course Of Computer Science
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The computer technology has ushered in a revolution that is unprecedented in its sweep. Its effect
on the everyday lives of ordinary people has been phenomenal. Right from the super satellite control
stations to the grocer s shop, the multinational company and the busy kitchen in the home this
technology is all pervasive, all consuming. This is what makes it one of the most challenging fields
as it not only meets needs but has the power to create new needs, rules and total environments of its
own.
I completed my first certificate course in computers in 1995, it was on GWBASIC language. Since
then, computers became a curiosity for me. Due to financial problems at home back then, I could
not take admission in an undergraduate course of computer engineering. Therefore, I joined
Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) course with major in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In
the second year of graduation, I decided to take admission in Master degree course in Computer
Science (MCA). MCA is a three year rigorous course that specializes in computer science. During
MCA, subjects like Discrete Mathematics, C programming, OOPS and C++, Operating Systems,
Numerical Methods, Software Engineering, Databases etc. were my area of focus.
The last semester of MCA was internship program with sumIT Infosoft P Ltd, where I developed
a web based bidding system for one of the clients. Here, I got real exposure to the world of
software. The internship program helped me to

Similarities Between Sumerian And Mesopotamia
The ancient civilizations of Sumer and Egypt were each shaped by their environments. In the
Sumer civilization they lived on a flat plain with few mountains to buffer them from invasion and
relied on an unpredictable twin river system. Sumer lacked vital natural resources such as wood and
precious metals. In Egyptthey had the advantage of a consistent flooding season as well as
protection of natural barriers surrounding them. These natural boundaries included desert,
mountain, as well as water. Where Sumerlacked natural resources, Egypt was blessed with a
plentiful supply of them. From the river flooding of their plains to the natural barriers or lack
thereof surrounding their area helped influence how these civilizations handled their government,
writing, and agriculture. The nature of their life giving rivers affected both Sumer and Egypt.
Whether it was the consistent flooding of the Nile or the erratic nature of the Tigris Euphrates
delta each river had an impact on the way of life in these civilizations. Sumer blossomed in the
Tigers Euphrates valley in an area referred to as Mesopotamiawhich The Earth and its Peoples
defines as land between rivers For the Sumerians the Tigris and Euphrates flooding was
unpredictable and would destroy farms and crops. The flooding in Mesopotamia would occur in the
summer from the melting snow in the mountains, too late for the ideal planting season. However,
the twin rivers provided vital trade routes as well as rich silt that

Narrative Style And Film Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel revolves around Europe of the 1930s and 1960s while it was in time
of the war, through the adventures of The Grand Budapest Hotel s doorman Zero and the Hotel
manager Gustave. The saga is linked to a burglar and a Renaissance painting, a great family s
wealth war, and the sudden change of war in Europe. It reflects the vicissitudes of political history
in Europe for half a century. This article will analyze The Grand Budapest Hotel from two aspects:
artistic style and film theme.
I. Artistic style
The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a
strong personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a
deliberately orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour
is often through Deadpan expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the
restraint and slight change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props
and sets of his films are often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The
Grand Budapest Hotel, but many new elements are added.
1. Narrative mode
In terms of the overall structure of the film, this film breaks through the previous single line
narrative mode, using four layers of nested narrative structure, layer by layer, and without any
lack of independence. The first level is a little girl went to the cemetery to worship writer s
grave, she put the key to hanging on the writer statue, and took out a book called The Grand
Budapest Hotel , she turned to the end of the book, the book was printed with pictures of writer;
the second level is the story of the girl who began to pay tribute to the author in the cemetery.
The third level is in The Grand Budapest Hotel, where old Zero tells his story to a young man.
Time and space returned to Zero when Zero was young, and this began the journey of Zero and
Mr. Gustave, this is the fourth level of narrative mode. Skip the middle specific storyline and go
straight to the end. Gustave s last moments are in black and white. Then, when the writer was
young, he ended his conversation with Zero, and the writer was sitting in the lobby of The Grand

Truman Doctrine
All things in history have a place and time. In fact we are history. Had it not been for the
previous events in world history, our existence could have been questionable. What would have
happened if Hitler did take over the world? Would we be alive today? What if the cold war turned
hot at some point? All these doubts tend to help an individual realize that everything in world
history happens for a specific reason and therefore everything has its own timeand place. One
significant event in United Stateshistory had been the Vietnam War. However, the Vietnam War that

He understood that Vietnam was the where the line was drawn. If he had not been stern with
foreign policy and his involvement, Khrushchev and the Russians would ride him all the way out
of his presidency. Just as Eisenhower had done, Kennedy had backed up Diem to fullest extent as
well. He believed that Diem played an intricate role in the success of the US presence within
Vietnam. JFK knew that Khrushchev had overpowered him. However, that had not fazed him. JFK
knew that this incident would not be based on leaders. It would heavily rely on counterinsurgency.
In fact, JFK based his whole foreign policy with Vietnam on counterinsurgency. JFKГЃ #9472;
#8805;s strong tactics didnГЃ #9472; #8805;t help him though. Events such as the Bay of PigГЃ
#9472; #8805;s in April of 1961 merely embarrassed him in front of the Russians. In addition,
after the June 1961 meeting between himself and Khrushchev, JFK felt quite overwhelmed by the
Russian leader. After returning home, JFK went ahead and called up the reserves, increased draft
quotas, and ordered a civil defense program. With thus in mind, JFK had a very hot hand on
everything. He seemed to be very pro war after the meeting in Vienna. However, before his
assassination, JFK called for an end to the hostility, and foresaw cooperation between Russia and
the US. Nevertheless, JFKГЃ #9472; #8805;s life came to an abrupt end on November 22, 1963 in

Genes and Their Control Over Humans Essay
Genes and Their Control Over Humans
They (genes) are in you and me; they created us, body and mind
This statement by Richard Dawkins poses the question of how much and in what way our genes
control us, whether they are responsible for our hereditary features only, or for all behavior and
environmental aspects of our persona.
A reductionist view implies that only specific tasks are carried out by the genes. We know that
most genes synthesize for proteins, these being chains of sub units, or amino acids (a.a) which in
turn form the bases of RNA ( ribonucleic acid) to determine the sequence of the a.a by means of the
genetic code. This process dictates whether the protein made will ... Show more content on

It was at this point that Gregor Mendel s work, on the theory of heredity, was revived. This formed
the basis of all future genetic studies.
Mendel had suggested that an individual s characteristics were determined by inherited factors.
This finding was proved to be correct when later microscopes were able to show proof that these
factors, known now alleles, could be related to the actions of the chromosomes, the carriers of
genes, during meiosis.
Thus, the theory that genes were the basis of all biological characteristics of inheritance became
accepted.
Both Mendel and Darwin have presented their theories from a reductionist viewpoint. Dawkins
statement from The Selfish Gene would appear to give an holistic viewpoint by including the
psychological, as well as biological, aspect of gene control.
2
To decide whether this is the viewpoint being put forward it is necessary to investigate known
causes of gene manipulation. This would encompass every factor of nature and nurture, from
genetic inheritance; be it eye or hair colour, or diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Huntington s chorea
or haemophilia. Cystic fibrosis is an example of an autosomal recessive alteration within a single
gene, this gene has been identified as lying on chromosome number 7. Huntington s chorea
meanwhile, although again arising from an

and other corrupt people. More criminals off the street, the more protected people

STUDY POPULATION AND CLINICAL DATA
This study is a retrospective chart review of 360 patients with definite or possible Infective
Endocarditis according to modified Duke Criteria [1 2] who were admitted to Detroit Receiving
Hospital and Harper University Hospital in Detroit from 2006 to 2014. Both hospitals are teaching
hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. For a patient with repeated episodes of Infective Endocarditis, one
episode was only included at our institutions. Clinical, microbiological, and echocardiographic data
of all patients with definite IE were collected using a standard data collection form.
Analysis of Data
Analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software system version 22. In table 1, bivariate
analysis was used to compare IE patients who died during admission versus those who survived to
hospital discharge.
Continuous variables were expressed as means В± standard deviation (SD) and binary regression
analysis was used to examine the associations between a continuous variable and a categorical
variable with two categories. Categorical variables were presented numbers (percentage) and the
association between them analyzed using The Chi square test. Variables that achieved a P value
less than 0.10 in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression
model to adjust the effects of any possible confounding variable. The independent predictors of the
mortality were selected using a backward stepwise.

BCS Championship Game Analysis
What this article is about is the ticket sales and the secondary prices in two of college football
postseason games. The two games that they are focused on is the 2014 Rose bowl which was the
game between Stanford and Michigan State and the BCS Championship game between Auburn

Championship game was played. The main things in this article that they were looking for is
distance traveled and sightlines for seating can raise the ticket prices for a collegefootballgame. In
the introduction of this article they talk about inelastic ticket pricing and how behavior is not

Reader, Readability, and Relativity in the Criticism of Propp, Barthes, and Fish
What exactly constitutes a text? What classifies a text as having canonical quality, what meaning
can be derived from that text, and who exactly makes these types of decisions? Welcome to the
world of literary criticism, where the approach to the text and the level of reader inclusion varies
based upon the school a critic identifies with in his endeavor and/or the individual reader may
happen to take most interest in the act of literary analysis. While the Socratic like formalistic
approach of Vladimir Propp, the lavish laymen s poetic deconstruction of Roland Barthes, and the
interpretative communal focus of Stanley Fish maintain both deviations and ... Show more content

However, others contend that no common genetic root exists. Propp argues We find such an
approach acceptable only if based upon the idea of spontaneous generation of species. He adds that
adherents to this method do not compare plots; they feel such comparison to be impossible or, at
the very least, erroneous, proposing instead that the similarity of fairy tales can be compared from
the standpoint of their comparison or structure (785).
While the readability of colleagues like T.S. Eliot is often difficult due to the use snobbish art
for art s sake diction, syntax, and aim of audience, Propp doesn t isn t quite as arrogant in his
style. Propp not only makes direct reference to the critic/reader in his opening paragraphs, he also
envelopes the audience with his more personable tone and phrasing. We observe... he states as he
leads into an analysis of the role of actors in folklore, which he claims, performs essentially the
same actions as the tale progresses, no matter how different from one another another in shape, size,
sex, and occupation, in nomenclature and other static attributes. Despite some more difficult word
choices here, such as nomenclature and static attributes, he maintains fluid readability as he guides
the reader much like a teacher. Throughout the piece Propp is more reader inclusive than are some
of his peers, so long as the reader has or is willing to obtain the same reasonable level of educated

Freire s Theory Of The Oppressed And The Oppressor...
As society continues to evolve people maintain their quest to accept full humanity, in this process
individuals question not only who their authentic self is, but what is keeping them from accepting
that version of themselves. A question which Freire addresses in his Pedagogy of the Oppressed as
he emphasizes how liberation transcends time, and atmosphere. Instead he chooses to illustrate a
process which is embodied by acceptance of the oppressor, activism, fellowship, solidarity, and
reflection, it is these components that create the means for a successful path to liberation, while
simultaneously allowing for the identification of personal and societal growth (Paulo Freire,
Pedagogy of the Oppressed). Brooks, Collins, and Kidd s novels... Show more content on

religion is indeed her oppressor which prompts her to take action and leave her pious life in an

Act II Of William Shakespeare s Macbeth
Act II of William Shakespeare s Macbeth is about how Lady Macbeth meets her spouse in the
lower patio as he rises up out of the ruler s room itself. Macbeth s still, small voice is
unmistakably irritated by what he has done, and again his wife scrutinizes his absence of
immovability. The accomplishment of their plot is likewise in peril in light of the fact that Macbeth
has carried the knifes with him. Lady Macbethcomes back to the scene of the homicide keeping in
mindthe end goal to put the knifes and to spread the ruler s dozing hirelings with blood, a deed that
gives her none of the loathsomeness that now influences Macbeth. As the scene closes, we listen,

The way that simply offer voice to the Macbeth s lethargic desire would appear to affirm this
thought, however this is countered by the way that Banquo additionally sees the same witches
and hears them talk. The dagger of the mind is one and only of numerous mental appearances in
the play. As the bodyguards murmur God bless us in their smashed trance, Macbeth finds that he
can t articulate the request to God word Amen. A mental abstract investigator may see this as a
physical failure to talk, created by Macbeth s deadening uncertainty about the accuracy of the
homicide. The inward universe of the mind in this way forces itself on the physical world. The

Shakespeare s Sonnets Of 14 Lines
Shakespeare s sonnets of 14 lines, are written in iambic pentameter, five metrical feet to a line,
each foot having one unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable, with three quatrains and
rhymed couplet scheme of abab cdcd efef gg. Often the beginning of the third quatrain marks the
line in which the mood turns, and the poet expresses a revelation or epiphany. Shakespeare in his
unique way, wrote Sonnet99 with fifteen lines, Sonnet 126 has six couplets and two blank lines
marked with italic brackets, Sonnet 145 is written in iambic tetrameters, and in Sonnet 29 the
normal rhyme schemeis changed by repeating the b in quatrain one in quatrain three, where the f
should be, differentiating them from the true Shakespearean sonnet.
Shakespeare s Sonnets are in motion, with different patterns, which differ radically from his
contemporaries at the time. In fact, his sonnets have great emotional depth, complexity, and human
perception. He borrowed diction and rhythms of ordinary speech from religion, law, courtship,
diplomacy, astronomy, and everyday life, turning them into expressions of his own unique linguistic
strategy. William used his half untold story using Renaissance themes of love, time, mutability, the
conflict of body and soul, passion and reason (Sonnets of Shakespeare). Shakespeare s
compositional strategies gives his speaker depth as a character; emotionally his moods are
conflicting and volatile, his mind has many compartments of discourse, he is a

Writing And Writing Of Beowulf
When someone says Beowulf what usually comes to mind is the 4,000 line epic poem. Instead
think of Beowulf: The Graphic Novel. A Scandinavian classic portrayed in a series of vividly
colored illustrations. While English majors and Literature enthusiasts alike cringe at such a
decimation of literary art, teachers jump for joy at a potential reading tool. In our ever changing
society, novels are being translated into comics, graphic novels, and even manga. The illustrated
pages should be used to promote reading and writing.
Everyone can recognize a novel as a book that tells a fictional story. Not many people know about
comic books, graphic novels and manga. There is a difference between these picture books. Comic
books were traditionally staple bound, but during the recent resurgence they were hardbound to
better endure wear and tear. Comics center themselves around the misadventures of its protagonist.
Graphic novels focus more on telling a single story. Graphic novels are bound like paperback
books. Manga is originally the Japanese version of comics. Manga can be viewed as a cross
between comics and graphic novels. It most often consists of a group s misadventures on the way
to achieving a goal. Manga is also bound as a paperback, and its most distinct attribute is the book
reads right to left instead of left to right.

Statement of Purpose for Engineering and Technology
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Our predecessors endeavoured to make men into machines; we are endeavouring to make machines
into men (CHARLES EDWARD JERNINGHAM, The Maxims of Marmaduke).
Skimming by these quotes is what made me to pursue my desired achievement in the fields of
electronics. The fields of electronics have brought much evolution in the world in this past century.
It also has change the way of looking at the things in our daily life and if there is any industry that
is going to completely redesigns our future that is definitely the electronics industry.
Moreover, my interest in electronics started to develop when I first came to know about computers
and its equipment. The technology of integrated circuits of transforming large electronic equipment
into small gadgets made me astonish and from then I started to solve the mysterious chips
whenever I get to lay my hands on them . It was then when I made my mind to pursue a career in
the field of electronics.
I have always been fascinated by the abundant field of electronics; hence it is my goal to become
an electronic engineer. Hence my quest for electronics made me follow to college which was why I
chose electronics and communication engineering and pursuing my bachelor degree as my field of
expertise and got admission into the reputed Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University s affiliated

Causes Of Calcium Uptake From Foliar Application
Calcium Uptake from Foliar Application
Foliar Ca2+ application has been suggested to increase the fruit Ca2+ supply that may, in turn,
reduce fruit Ca2+ deficiency disorders. Spraying with Ca2+ solution reduces Ca2+ deficiency
injury in plants (Kleemann 2000b) e.g. foliar Ca2+ spray reduces BER incidence of tomato
(Schmitz Eiberger, Haefs, and Noga 2002) ; spraying of 0.5% solution of Calciogreen in
glasshouse completely prevents BER incidence of bell pepper variety Cecil though the fruit mass
was reduced(Parađiković et al. 2004) ; spraying of young tomato with CaCl2 limits the
development BER (Schmitz Eiberger, Haefs, and Noga 2002); spraying of celery with CaCl2 or
Ca(NO3)2 completely control blackheart (Geraldson 1952, 1954). ... Show more content on

However, direct application of Ca2+ can reduce the symptoms of Ca2+ deficiency disorder but
does not remove them completely (Ferguson and Watkins 1989) and exogenous Ca2+ may not
bound with the cell structure tightly that leads to easy leakage of it (Ferguson and Watkins 1983).
Calcium Translocation within Plant
Soil solution Ca2+ enters the root apoplast with mass flow of water (Barber 1995) and is
transported to the xylem via apoplastic or symplastic pathways (White and Broadley 2003).
Apoplastic pathway consists of cell wall and intercellular spaces where Ca2+ moves with water
passively across the gradient of water potential (Karley and White 2009; White 2001). Symplastic
pathway consists of cytoplasm where Ca2+ moves from cell to cell through plasmodesmata
(Karley and White 2009; White 2001). Tight regulation of cytosolic Ca2+ at a very low
concentration (0.1 0.2 ОјM) implies that apoplastic pathway is the main route of Ca2+
translocation across the root cortex (White and Broadley 2003; Taylor and Locascio 2004; Karley
and White 2009). However, presence of Casparian strip at the root endodermal cells prevents
further movement of Ca2+ towards the xylem. The Casparian strip prevents apoplastic movement
of solutes (Clarkson 1993; White 2001) and suberization restricts the movement of Ca2+ into the
endodermal cells(Moore et

Billie Holiday spent 1934 moving up the rungs of the competitive New York bar scene. By early

rather than just a group of notes sang with a voice.

Media’s Influence on Children and Adolescents Essay examples
Unlike previous generations who were introduced to the internet, television and social media, the
present generation is born in it. By this statement, it is implied that children today are much closer
to technology and media than adults are, and so, are more likely to be affected by it. Perhaps, the
highest impact on the physical, cognitive, and social emotional development of children and
adolescents is by media due to its ready availability through Smart phones, tablet PCs and other
portable devices. This paper attempts to evaluate some of the influences of media on various
aspects of child and adolescent development.
Impact on physical development: Excess use of media hinders physical development and growth.
The main reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Impact on cognitive development: Media promotes depression, anxiety and violent behavior in
children. This is because many acts of violence are depicted in prime time shows and in video
games. High levels of television viewing are causally related to aggressive behavior and the
acceptance of aggressive attitudes (as cited in Strasburger Donnerstein, 1999, p. 132). Furthermore,
media affects children s ability to learn. This is because they get used to learning through song and
dance on edutainment TV shows, and when such excitement is absent at school, they feel it is
boring and tend to lose interest in academics (Clean Cut Media, 2010). More and more children are
being diagnosed with attention disorders because they tend to multi task while using media, by
listening to music, chatting online, watching TV etc., at the same time (Clean Cut Media, 2010).
An advantage of the internet is that it promotes learning through interactive media and interesting
content, but utilizing it depends on the choice of the children.
Impact on social emotional development: Media has a profound impact on social emotional
development of children. Face to face interaction among children may suffer due to increased online
interaction,

Free Will And Free Choice
Freedom of Will
The alarm clock sounds, you get up and stand before your wardrobe, facing a decision. The white
shirt or the blue, both clean, both equally nice, but it is still an easy decision. The blue. You revel
in your creativity and ready yourself for the day to come. The freedom you have always known
permitted the choice, your free will grants you this privilege. Or does it? Free will is a false
concept often confused with free choice. Free will does not truly exist, the limitations set by nature
and the influence of other people hinder the ability to choose without the impact of past experiences.
As Barbara Smoker, a British Humanist activist and freethought advocate stated, Free choice
means you are not forced by other people or what is outside of you. Free will is the idea that you
are not programmed by past and present circumstances to do what you do now, (1). We as human
beings are naturally reliant on other human beings for our daily dose of interaction. This is where
the magic begins. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has criticism, and everyone has different
likes and dislikes, however they are not our own. Most of our childhood experiences shape the
people we become. For example, if you had a dog instead of a cat, and that dog was fairly well
behaved, you are likely to prefer dogs to cats when you grow older. Or, if you had a dog and it was
not well behaved, it is likely you will grow to dislike either the breed or dogs in general. Our

Outlining the Overall Structure Ofocial Care Sector Essay...
Part 1 P2 (500 words) Outlining the overall structure of the social care sector. Social Care
services sector s role is to deliver social care systems which offer care equality for all individuals,
while allowing people to retain their independence, dignity and control. During the past 20 years
the need for social care services in the UK slightly increased. This is mainly due to demographic
factors such as an increasing aging population. Therefore this means that more care and
residential care homes are needed. Also, a number of women with small children, who decided to

They are often those who fill the gap which was left by other sectors. They usually concentrate
more on social care rather than on health sector e.g. their role is to help poor people in need.
Examples of them are: Red Cross, Oxfam, and British Heart Foundation. Social Care services
can be accessed by using referrals. There are 3 different types of referrals: self referral,
professional referral and third party referral, each of them involves different process. Self
referral is when individuals suspects by themselves that they have some problems with their
social issues. Therefore, they self refer to a social care specialist in order to receive the help and
support that they need. Professional referral is when a service user already contacted or used
the service; however if the professional suspects any kind of underlying health problem, the
patient will be referred directly to another professional. For example if the social worker
suspects a child abuse in the family, he/she may refer the child to a counsellor or psychologist to
sort out the problem. Third party referral, is when a non professional person such as relative,
friend or neighbour contacts with the services in order to help the individual they know about.
For example the resident of the residential care home may be referred by the home manager to see
a social worker. When an individual is trying to access a social care services she/he may face some

Revenge And Adultery In Le Morte D Arthur
Important reoccurring themes in Le Morte d Arthur are adultery, fate, revenge, people hiding their

one of the most important themes and Arthur has a lot to do with it. First of all he was born

For example, when Arthur sleeps with his sister Morgause and gets her pregnant with Mordred, he
dreams about serpents and dragons that wound him. Right before he gets killed by Mordred, he
dreams about them again, but this time they destroy him. Dragons and serpents, in this case,
symbolise destruction and the death of Arthur (NoodГ©n 1992). The white brachet that ran in
court with a lady on a palfrey and a hart is one of these symbols as well. In medieval times, the
brachet was a symbol for love, which is why Tor is sent to fetch the brachet rather than Gawaine
or Pellinore, as they are not capable of loving the way Tor is (Dagg 1969). Finally the Questing
Beast is an important animal symbol, symbolising a meaningless quest. Sir Pellinore has to hunt
it down, but it seems quite a useless thing to do. This symbolises the way he does other quests,
like when he has to find the lady of the hart and brachet and refuses to help another lady in need.
The quest he is doing is made useless because of that, as he is not being chivalrous. In this case the
Questing Beast is a reflection of Pellinore s personality (Dagg

Personal Statement of Cancer Research Interest
Biological sciences have always been the interest of my academic path. Later, in my high school
career it became increasingly clear that oral study was my passion. I have since dedicated my
efforts to becoming a general dentist, however dentistry is not where I would like to settle. I plan
to conduct research of various oral diseases and hopefully provide more insight into the issues that
affect that region of the body.
Cancer research is very necessary considering the number of people who fall victim to the
currently incurable disease. As a biology major my needs for scientific exploration are being met,
however, I d like to further my knowledge. My goal is to advance in the field of science

Personal Narrative Essay On Alcatraz
I was on the ferry boat with my dad, I was eating snacks my dad packed. My heart was beating like
before I play a basketball game. We were on our way to Alcatraz, the island off of San Francisco
that was once a jail. Alcatraz was a very famous jail because no one could escape, except for people
who escaped from the island but might ve died in the water or got caught right away. I was 5 or 6
years old and me and my dad were going to Alcatraz because of a father and daughter activity. I
thought, this day is going to be nice, no brothers to annoy me and it s just me and my dad. That day
me and my dad woke up early to drive to San Francisco, when I woke up I felt excited and a little
nervous because this was the first time I was going to a jail. Not a lot of people were on the island
so whenever me and my father went... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The had 50 rain jackets to make the raft and they made paddles out of wood. In the middle of the
of the narration I got lost so I don t know what happened next. After the narrating was over, me
and my dad walked around the island, it was a beautiful sight! You could see the golden gate
bridge and the water underneath, clouds in the sky the sun was bright my dad said What a nice
day, we stood there for a few seconds and we continued our walk around the island. We walked
through a little tunnel and I had this special moment with my dad, it was just me and my dad no
one else around us. My dad pointed out this cannon on the side of the walkway he said It was
used for world war 2 but I m still not sure. We did not walk all over Alcatraz, but I had some
special moments with my dad everywhere we went. What I learned from this trip with my dad was
both information about Alcatraz and how fun a day with dad and no brothers to annoy

The Five Competitive Forces That Shape Strategy

Hotel Industry is a very lucrative sector that can generate high amount of revenue if proper
strategies are established. According to Statista (2014), the worldwide hotel industry is estimated to
generate about $550 billion in revenue in the year 2016. In their statistics, the company that is
contributing the largest part of this revenue is the British hotel chain, Intercontinental Hotels Group
which generated about $21.6 billion in 2013 (Statista Corporation, 2014). The Intercontinental
Hotels Group has more than 4,600 hotels worldwide. It is followed closely by other major players
such as Hilton Worldwide (3,992 hotels globally),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will attract all types of suppliers including the labor suppliers. Again, they can use better
technology that can minimize wastages along the supply chain. A sustainable strategy should be to
uphold a stable cost effective labor supply over its probable competitors.
The overall industry structure
The Hotel Industry is characterized by large capital outlays, and elevated proportion of fixed
expenses. The competition mainly entails costs and differentiation of products and services. Income
from any hotel project can be upheld through room sales, food and beverage, exhibitions and
conventions, entertainments, shopping complex, car parking service, and Neon Signage.
According to Porter, major rivalry arises from growth rate of the industry, number and size of
competitors, product differentiation, capacity augmentation, exit barriers and variety, and switching
costs. However, there is no switching of costs within the hotel industry.
The Hotel Industry in key cities has very high exit barriers. Therefore, there is a substantial
diversity in strategy and endeavors of corporations owning the hotels. For example, an airline can
consider maintaining a hotel to attract and retain the

My Utopian Society Essay
The Utopian land is divided into two main terrains: farmland and cities. The farmlands, of course,
are where most of the country s resources are produced. The services of the economy, smithing,
carpentry, clothmaking, etc., are mainly produced in the cities. Iron is the only resource which
must be imported abundantly. All of the resources, except iron, that the nation requires, it produces
on its own.
The Utopians live a very simple lifestyle. They work, and in their spare time play games, read, and
socialize. Other forms of entertainment, such as gambling and hunting are looked down upon.
They only eat what is necessary, and their houses are built simply and furnished only with what is
necessary. Thus, their consumption is very low.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theses are exported for the iron that they need, and gold and silver after that.
However, gold and silver play a very different role in Utopia. There is no monetary system; all of
the people are provided with what they need. Instead of working to get money with which they
can choose what they want, their work is repaid with everything they need. What each person
needs is decided by them alone, and there is no risk of anyone taking more than they need. Why
would anyone take more than they need when they will always be provided for? There is no reason
to store up for the future, and there is nothing to do with extra, unnecessary products.
The gold and silver then is used for purchasing mercenaries for use in war and for paying citizens
of other nations to turn against their country in war. Since gold is of no use to the people of
Utopia, it is stored as chamber pots, and cheap jewelry worn only by the bondman, the lowest of
Utopian people. When a time comes that requires the use of gold, the Utopians gladly give it up,
for to them it is just a toilet. The Utopian government also uses its gold to lend to other nations in
need. They are very liberal with their loans, and do not always ask for them to be repaid. Their
reasoning is that they have no use for the gold, for they have a surplus of that as well, and the
other nation that is in debt has very good use for it.
This economy seems very

Company Overview Of O Has Been Selling Products At A Loss
Company Overview
Tesu SZZ d.o.o has been selling products at a loss, and these losses will impact the company in the
future if substantial measures are not taken. The primary issue is that Tesu SZZ d.o.o requires a
significant amount of capital in order to fund production, especially if the company is planning to
sustain operations going forward. Criteria used to evaluate the future alternatives for the company
must ensure that Tesu is able to manage its current financial state while improving its methods in
the following months. In order to evaluate the alternatives, the decisions made must achieve
profitability, improve liquidity and solvency, and decrease the collection period for accounts
receivable. These three factors were used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By combining these alternatives, Tesu has the highest chance of success in terms of profitability,
improving liquidity and solvency, and decreasing the collection period for accounts receivable to
sustain its operations.
Pro Forma Analysis
In the expansion proposal planned for Tesu, an increase in prices will prevent further losses. By
increasing even as little as 10% for all products currently manufactured by the company, they will
be turning a profit. A more dramatic price increase will alleviate of some of the strain of the
company s current production. However, this could negatively impact EMT as they are the ones
who are purchasing from Tesu.
Additionally, Tesu will also have to gain additional funds to finance their operations. In April
2013, the company will have to borrow about 260,000€ in order to meet their financial
obligations. However, this does not account for the 250,000€ previously unpaid wages
outstanding. In the following month, Tesu must acquire 450,000€ to cover the cost of the
planned increase production, which goes towards the parts they purchased in April. Moreover,
their accounts receivable collections are very low in April and May, because they produced and
sold a small amount in January and February. After the 450,000€ is borrowed, they require
175,000€ the following month to cover additional

Even more difficult is the explanation of this process in conditions of group decision making where
each individual member of a decision making unit is influenced and influence other members as
well. Motivation of single members and their rate of involvement in the purchase process can also
vary according to the rate of personal usage of the purchased product or interest in this particular
buying task for the firm. Therefore, it is necessary to take into consideration personal effects and
interaction of members within a unit and emotional motives for decision making about a purchase
in communication (Gilliland Johnston, 1997).

The Model of B2B Communication Effects
In the 1997 Gilliland and Johnston published a model of B2B communication effects mentioned
individual preferences influencing business buying decision and other factors which create the
dynamics of the DMU. Most of presented opinions in accessible literature presume that decision
making about organization purchase is influenced more or less by rational arguments than
emotional arguments. However, an emotional message has an essential role in forming individual
attitudes, perception of a trademark and a

Jammu And Kashmir Conflict
Jammu and Kashmir
Dhruv Malhotra In the summer of 1947, millions forcefully emigrated from India to Pakistan.
People were uprooted from their homeland and sent to live in Pakistan. Some would travel on
foot, some in carriages, but most by Train. The trains were given a warm sending off by the
officials and sent on their way. As the train reached Pakistan, the doors opened and out flowed a
pool of blood. Almost everyone on the train had been massacred. One of those people was my great
grandfather. Thus, due to this catastrophic and melancholic incident, escalated the great conflict
between India and Pakistan, more specifically, the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir is a
state in India, that shares a border with Pakistan, and since the partition of India and Pakistan, it has
been disputed land. Both countries claim the land is theirs, which has subsequently caused several
wars between the two. My stance on the issue is to call for autonomy. To give Jammu and
Kashmir self governance, which will let the state make the decisions rather than the two countries.
It ensures peace for the people of the state, rather than wealth for either India or Pakistan. Jammu
and Kashmir was originally a part of India when the conflict began, though, due to its high Muslim
population, it leaned more towards Pakistan. According to The Times of India, 53% of the
population of Kashmir is Muslim or of Muslim descent and wants to secede to Pakistan . However,
the conflict arises because

The Amendment Of The Fourteenth Amendment
On January 31st, 1865, the 13th amendment was passed by congress. This amendment said that no
one, not even those of differing colors, could be held as slaves (with the exception of prisoners). In
short, this amendment freed the black slaves (and other races) of enslavement. Unfortunately
though, the black slaves were never truly free for well over 100 years, as after the passing of the
13th amendment, they were repeatedly persecuted against, most notably in the southern United
States. Furthermore, Mississippi never submitted the required paperwork to ratify the 13th
amendment until February 7th, 2013 (Waldron, Mississippi Officially Abolishes Slavery , 2013).
Fortunately though, slavery would still have been illegal even if Mississippi... Show more content

In states such as South Carolina, the Black Codes were adjusted to prohibit the Black
community from holding any job other than Farmer or Servant ( Black Codes , 2010). Other
states allowed a Black person to be beaten should they fail to sign or renew a Labor Contract (
Black Codes , 2010). Worst of all though, Apprenticeship laws allowed for children to be used as
free labor, mainly for plantation owners ( Black Codes , 2010). Fortunately, those in the Northern
States disapproved of the Black Codes and wanted them to be abolished ( Reconstruction , 2009
/ Black Codes , 2010). The United States Congress agreed with the public and quickly introduced
the Civil Rights Act ( Reconstruction , 2009/ Black Codes , 2010). Despite President Andrew
Johnson vetoing the bill, Congress managed to override the veto and put the bill into law (
Reconstruction , 2009/ Black Codes , 2010). As soon as the bill was officially signed, the US
government took control of the Southern Reconstruction. As a result of the government intervening
in the Reconstruction Era, Southern Blacks were soon elected into government offices, including
Congressional Seats ( Reconstruction , 2009/ Black Codes , 2010). Unfortunately, thanks to the US
Government s involvement in the Reconstruction Era, white supremacist groups were created, most
notably the Ku Klux Klan, or the KKK for short. While it was originally founded in 1866 as a
group dedicated to stopping Blacks from

The Importance Of Tourism In Indonesia
With a population of 258,316,051, Indonesia has a colourful city, culture and people. Indonesia s
capital is Jakarta and it holds the majority of Indonesia s population. The main languages in
Indonesia are Bahasa Indonesia, English in addition to Dutch as well as the local dialects. Their
currency is IDR (Indonesian Rupiah). The topics covered in this report include tourism, defence
and education. Tourism: Tourism is a fundamental component of the Indonesian economy. The
contribution of tourism to their GDP in 2014 was IDR 325,467 billion (US$26,162 million)
which summed up to 3.2% of their GDP. In 2015 9.73 million international visitors visited
Indonesia and each person spent approximately AUD $193.21 during their visit. The Indonesian
government wanted to invest in more tourism advancement in 2016 so they could raise their GDP.
Their goal is for 275 more visitors per annul by the end of 2019. Some of the most visited places in
Indonesia are mainly religious temples such as, Borobudur a Buddhist temple, Tanah a lost island
temple and Prambanan a Hindu temple. Australia and Indonesia have a close relationship and it is
shown by how they visit each other often. Almost 16,200 Indonesians visited Australia in June 2016
moreover 116,000 Australian visited Indonesia in June 2016 more than any month in history.
Indonesia was the most popular place to visit for Australians (June 2016), beating New Zealand as

invested in target surged and created value for all stakeholders from 2005 2008. From 2005
2007, Target was able to effectively use the money it borrowed from investors and creditor to
create value for the organization. This occurred because of a surge in economic activity from
2005 2007 (United States Department of Labor, 2011). Why did the ROIC take a down turn?
What was the cause? According to the Wall Street Journal, Target Corp. s credit card portfolio
hurt its performance in the recession, as delinquencies and defaults soared. The economic
recession that began in 2007 was the main catalyst behind Targets decrease in ROIC. The
company s ROIC decreased through much of the recession. Target is able to maintain a surplus
over the cost of capital from 2005 2009. The Weighted average cost of capitalwas almost parallel
form 2005 2009.
Company vs. Industry ROIC
The comparison between Target Corp and the industry Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) is to
examine if both the industry as well as Target s returns are consistent with each other. Target is
located under NAICS code 452990, which entails All Other General Merchandise Stores. The
ROIC is how effectively a company uses the money borrowed or owned invested in its operations
(Carpenter, 2009). As stated earlier, ROIC is calculated by dividing current operating profits by
liabilities and equity from the previous year. Figure 2 provides a detailed interpretation on Target s
ROIC and the industry ROIC. As

Causes of the 2008 US Recession Essay
Many people today would consider the 2008, United States financial crisis a simple malfunction
or mistake , but it was nothing close to that. Contrary to what many believe, renowned
economists and financial advisors regarded the financial crisis of 2007 and 2008 to be the most
devastating crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930 s. To make matters worse, the decline
in the economy expanded nationwide, resulting in the recession of 2007 to 2009 (Brue). David
Einhorn, CEO of GreenHorn Capital, even goes as far as to say What strikes me the most about
the recent credit market crisis is how fast the world is trying to go back to business as usual. In
my view, the crisis wasn t an accident. We didn t get unlucky. The crisis came

Unfortunately, the mortgages would take a turn for the worst; thus, resulting in investment funds
lost and the inability to repay the loans that they borrowed from the banks (Isidore, 2008). Left
with nothing, the banks were forced to declare the loans as unrecoverable, reduce the bank s
reserve, and limit their ability to generate new loans (Isidore, 2008). These actions destroy the
economy because both businesses and buyers need loans to pay for investment expenditures and
finance consumption (Isidore, 2008). An early problem was mortgage backed security . According
to AP Economics 19 edition, Mortgage backed securities are bonds backed by mortgage payments
(Brue). In order to create mortgage backed securities, lenders begin by creating mortgage loans
(Brue). When they do, the lenders combine hundreds of loans into one and sell them off as bonds;
basically selling the right to regain all future payments (Brue). In the end, banks receive an
individual payment for the bond. Bond buyers recover the mortgage payments as the gain on the
investment (Brue). As first, it seemed like a good decision on the bank s party because it moved
any future default risk on those mortgages to the buyer s bond (Brue). Unfortunately, they fail to
realize that they had lent the significant amount of money they got from investment funds to selling
bonds (Brue). Moreover, the banks bought huge amounts of

Leon Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance
Leon Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance (1957) sets its meaning on the theory that
behavior does not support the attitude or vice versa. At many times individuals see themselves
experiencing this phenomenon, so in order to reduce this dissonance, either the attitude or the
behavior needs to be altered or changed. A perfect example would have to be when a white
person says that black and whites are all the same yet he/she would not want to live in a
neighborhood with the majority of the population being blacks. This expresses the person s strong
attitude towards the topic, yet their behavior shows otherwise. This paper will focus in deeply
understanding what cognitive dissonance is and analyzing well known studies that have conducted
extensive research on it. Our attitude and behaviors are what defines us in society and what
supports our views. However when these two contradict with each other, many different outcomes
may to happen. That is why consistency plays an eccentric role in our lives, which brings the
question of what happens when we are inconsistent with what we say and do? Researchers Lisa L.
Shu and Fransesca Gino conducted a study called Sweeping Dishonesty under the Rug: How
Unethical Actions Lead to Forgetting of Moral Rules, (2012) in which they wanted to know
whether one consequence could be the forgetting of moral rules. These two searched to understand
how our action or better yet our immoral actions, leads us to forget what our parents

  • 2. The Colonialism Of The Walt Disney Company My topic is the colonialism of The Walt Disney Company. When defining colonialism, I will be referring to two general definitions that are applicable to modern day colonialism as seen through cultural appropriation, and cultural commodification of Disney and the tourist industry. Oxford Dictionaries defines colonialismas, the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically, and Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy s defines colonialism as, a practice of domination, which involves the subjugation of one people to another. My case study is the Disney movie, Moana. I am focusing on Moana because it is the most recent Disney animated film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will use box office sales and other prominent statistics associated with the Disney company to help demonstrate the influence Disney has on the public. Pedagogy scholars Kevin M. Tavin and David Anderson s journal article, Teaching (Popular) Visual Culture: Deconstructing Disney in the Elementary Art Classroom informs readers of the power of the Disney company in all medias to create individual and collective identities (23). In journal article, Tackling MДЃori Masculinity: A Colonial Genealogy of Savagery and Sport , MДЃori scholar Brendan Hokowhitu will build off this source by not only referencing cultural stereotypes formed by others, due to the media, but also identities formed about one s own native culture and heritage. He uses a direct example of MДЃori men stereotypes. I plan to synthesize many of my sources like this: with one showing a various perspective (i.e. pedagogical or colonial) on the Disney company and another highlighting the point of view from a Polynesian. The book, Waves of Resistance, by Isaiah Helekunihi Walker, a Hawaiian surfer and scholar of Hawaiian history and colonialism, delves into Polynesian stereotypes that have been present since eighteenth century colonialism. This source provides background on this topic for my paper. These Polynesian stereotypes include women sexualized with coconut bras and grass skirts, and men portrayed as ignorant savages. ... • 3. Differences In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham The world contains an outrageous amount of similarities and differences that involve with today s society and the society of Waknuk that deals with human intolerance in one way or another. The Chrysalids by John Wyndham include some similarities within our society and Waknuk that demonstrate how quickly people judge others according to their physical appearance and the racism that still exist in both societies. An example of a differenceis that there are many different religion and beliefs today compared to the society of Waknuk. Humankinds are prejudiced in countless different manners because of the bitterness and cruelty inside humanity s heart and mind. As society develops, the more injustice human grows by how everyone make conclusions on a person based on external image. First and foremost, the society of Waknuk are very harsh about the definition and the true image of God that sadly they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start with, when Sophie and her family ran away in fear because f Sophie being a deviant, according to Uncle Axel, I m telling you, he went on, that a lot of people saying that a thing is so, doesn t prove it is so. I m telling that nobody, nobody really knows what the image is (64), this demonstrates that even though a person may look different it is not for one today if it right or not. Along with the words of Alex Haley, Racism is taught in our society, it is not automatic. It is learned behavior toward persons with dissimilar physical characteristics, clearly proves that everyone has their own opinion, but it does not mean that one must force it onto other people. Another example would be how people on Mississippi made up a rule that black people are allowed to be ridiculed and isolated from everyone else because of how they have different skin color compared to others. In conclusion, racism is a common problem because many people believe that their race is superior than others as a result of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interval training involves periods of high intensity effort followed by recovery periods of less intense physical activity. The benefits of such training include: 1. You will be able to achieve more in each individual workout. The amount of high intensity work you can do in a session increases, as you get a chance to recover in between. 2. You will increase the amount of calories you burn. Interval training uses mainly carbohydrate rather than fat for energy, but because of its higher intensity level it burns more calories overall. 3. Introduction Bridging the distance between nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Gerard Manley Hopkins poetry is of great significance. As often the case with innovators and artists who are ahead of their times, Gerard Manley Hopkins was torn by contradictions and his poems regarded as unconventional for the historical period. His works are specifically marked by the varied use of linguistic features and rhythmic patterns which did not match the traditional writing styles of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the recurrent themes and motifs in Hopkins poetry include the idea that the world resembles a book written by God, through which he expresses himself in order to provide humans with an opportunity to understand and approach him (Gardner 11). In God s Grandeur Hopkins can be seen to express his concern about the spiritual crisis of the Victorian period. During this time of urbanization and industrialization, Hopkins voiced his distress about human indifference to destruction. This poem is one of the very few which he wrote during the time when he served as a priest. The form of God s Grandeur is an Italian sonnet, but with some alteration. Even though Hopkins does not use sprung rhythm here, he varies his sonnet structure from the traditional iambic pentameter. Typically, a sonnet contains 3 quatrains (4 lines) and a couplet (2 lines); the Italian sonnet is characterized by having 1 octave (8 lines) and 1 sestet (6 lines). In God s Grandeur a similar pattern is followed, however, Hopkins presents a technique he often employs in other works as well, that of using the octet to present a personal or a sensory experience and the octet in order to provide some reflection on the topic (Gardner 221). God s Grandeur paints a poignant image of the destructiveness of contemporary human life, in particular, in the second quatrain. The second quatrain also presents a feature that is specific for Hopkins and different from the rhythm of the Italian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Gender Discrimination In Nursing Today, most people perceive nursing as a women profession. Men who enter this field have been looked at as outcasts. Many individuals feel that a man does not belong in a female profession. I believe that statement to be untrue and unfair. The issue of gender discrimination in nursing is the same as any other professions. The only difference is nursing is dominated by women, and men are the minority fighting for equality. My goal in this paper is to help you understand why I m arguing that men should be welcomed in the nursing profession. Genderor sex discriminationinvolves treating an employee or a category of employees differently because of gender. Whenever this discrimination affects the terms or conditions of employment, it is illegal. Gender based different treatment of employees with regard to pay, title, position, hours worked and vacation time is generally considered illegal and wrong. Just 2.7 percent of the working nursing population in the United States are men. To understand why nursing is dominated by women we have to analyze the history. Malenurses may belong, but there s still not many around. According to the U.S. Labor Department statistics, 6.7 percent of registered nurses were male. Gender discrimination in nursing exists because of prejudices male students encounter in the classroom, in the workplace and with patients. Over the years discrimination of males in the nursing has declined but just like racial discrimination it still exists. To understand gender discrimination in nursing we must first understand the past. Nursing was found in the 3rd century in ancient Rome and was dominated by men. Since the 20th century women have dominated the nursing profession. Actually, in the 1897 American Nurse Association was founded, and no men were allowed. The rule eventually changed in 1930, allowing men the right to be a nurse. Are male nurses accepted by female nurses? I feel like if you are in the nursing profession and don t understand that there is a shortage of nurses in the world then it shouldn t matter if they are male or female. Every gender should be accepted. The require for male nurses is on a rise, partly because there is a growing demand for nurses in general. That also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Franchising Is A Long Term Essay Nowadays, franchising is one of the easiest ways to start a business. Franchising is defined as a long term, continuing business relationship wherein for consideration, the franchisor grants to the franchise a licensed right, subject to agreed requirements and restrictions, to condusct business utilising the trade and/or service marks of the franchisor and also provides to the franchisee advice and assistance in organising, merchandising, and managing the business conducted to the licensee пЃ›1пЃќ. The company granting these rights in deemed the franchisor, the receiver of these rights the franchisee, and the right is defined as the franchise. The franchiser owns a trademark or brand, which he (or she) agrees to allow the franchisee to use for a fee (often an original purchase price plus a percentage of sales). The franchiser provides the franchisee with assistance (financial, choice of site, and so on) in setting up their operation, and then maintains continuing control over various aspects of the franchisee s business; for example, via the supply of products, discussion of their marketingplans and/or centralized staff training пЃ›2пЃќ. The franchising arrangement may be viewed as an agency relationship in which the franchisor (principal) is reliant upon franchisees (agents) to undertake actions on their behalf пЃ›3пЃќ. Franchising organizations differ from other business, based on three important points пЃ›4пЃќ are: 1.Geographic dispersal of organizations units 2.Replication across ... • 8. Accounting Paper Introduction In recent decades, the global economy has undergone a rapid transformation, from an economy driven by traditional hard assets plants, warehouses and the like , to an economy driven by patents, software, intellectual property, and brands. These items fall into a category that has become hugely important in the world of financial reporting, intangible assets . Increasingly, the value of a firm is derived not from its tangible assets such as stock, property, plant and equipment but by its knowledge capital, its employees, even by its business processes. As Baruch Lev notes in 2001: Pfizer s value comes from its discovery activities (drug development, patents, trademarks), and from an unusually effective sale force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were able to conclude that the usefulness of reported earnings, cash flows, and book (equity) values has been deteriorating over the years . The decline in the usefulness of accounting is a result of the difficulties in measuring an internally developed intangible asset, firstly how does one assign a value to knowledge capital, secondly, what is the fair value of this capital if no exchange has taken place? In the interest of conservatism and reliability, regulators require all investments in R amp;D to be immediately expensed. This creates a problem since the benefits of this research are not realized until a later period, thus the concept of matching goes out the window. This increased expenditure resulting from R amp;D expenditure distorts earnings on the income statement. In the event of a merger or an acquisition (M amp;A), in accordance with APB Opinion 17, any excess amount paid over the book value for a firm would be listed under the catch all term goodwill which was amortized over 40 years. As a result of these regulation standards, the gap between the market value of technology firms and their book value became ever larger. Efforts to Improve Financial Reporting The dangers of this ineffective accounting for intangibles were brought into a stark light in 2001 following the collapse of energy giant Enron, which once had been widely considered to be one of ... • 9. Penny Synthesis Essay The production of the one cent piece has long been a topic of controversy. Some argue for the penny saying that the penny has been a part of U.S. history for over 200 years; while those on the opposing side argue that eliminating the penny could save retail businesses time and therefore money by saving the time wasted counting pennies at the register. Some argue that we should phase out pennies because the value is so little that no one uses them; In fact, the face value of the penny is so little that it costs more to produce it. Because of the downsides to the continued production of the penny, we ought to phase the penny out. One reason pennies should be eliminated is that they waste the time of retail businesses. According to Dr. Robert... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of currency is to be exchanged for goods and/or services. However if the value of the coin is too low, no one is going to bother to use it because it cannot buy anything. According to source #2, the United States Department of Defense deemed the penny not cost effective to ship because it weighed so much and was worth so little. Foreign military bases use a rounding system that rounds to the nearest nickel. Source #2 states, The rounding system seems to work well for the military, and some experts such as Harvard professor N. Gregory Mankiw want to do the same in the entire United States. . Based on this quote, we can conclude that eliminating the penny would not have any significant adverse effects as it seems to work well on military bases. In addition to United State military bases, Canada no longer produces the one cent piece. • 10. Evaluation Of Glucosylceramide Synthase ( Gcs ) Abstract Glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of glucosylceramide (GlcCer) related glycosphingolipids (GSLs). In the present report we have used atom based 3D QSAR method to analyze the structural aspect on a series of iminosugar derivatives as potent inhibitors of glycosylceramide synthase. In this approach the experimental dataset was divided into training and test sets and the model was chosen based on randomized trial distribution which has high correlation factors. A ligandbased pharmacophore and atom based 3D QSAR studies were carried out on a set of 65 inhibitors of GCS. After the QSAR studies, a five point pharmacophore with two hydrogen bond acceptors (A), two hydrophobic group (H) and one ring aromaticity (R) was obtained. The pharmacophore hypothesis yielded a 3D QSAR model with good partial least square statistics results. The training set correlation has these partial least square factors (R2=0.92, SD = 0.178, F = 843.9, P = 1.12e 15). The test set correlation has these partial least square factors (Q2 = 0.25, RMSE = 0.665, Pearson R =0.54). After the QSAR studies, docking study is being carried out. The docking study will reveal the binding orientation of the active ligands on the protein which will be completed in BTP phase II. The result for QSAR and docking studies will provide structural characteristics of the active ligands and also give detailed information about binding features which can useful ... • 11. The Battle Of Palo Alto The Battle of Palo Alto The Battle of Palo Alto was the first major battle of the Mexican American War. The Mexican Army of the North engaged the United States Army of Occupation on a prairie near current day Brownsville, Texas. The conflict took place on May 8th, 1846 and was followed the next by the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, about five miles south. Both battles took place in an area of disputed ownership and, depending on the side, were on the only battles on American soil. Thousands of Americans, who changed citizenship and received large tracts of land from the Mexican government, rebelled in Texas in 1835 for several reasons, including Mexicos abolition of the locally popular Texas provincial government and its inability to... In November of 1845, President Polk named Senator James Slidell of Louisiana as the new American minster to Mexico (Haecker, 1994), and was sent to secretly negotiate with Mexican President Jose Joaquin de Herrera. However, he was overthrown by General Mariano Parades y Arrillaga, Commander of the Army of the North, who denied negotiation with the Americans and demanded the return of the disputed area of Texas. During this time, Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor, who was preemptively stationed at Corpus Christi, to move his unit down to Port Isabel at the mouth of the Rio Grande and Gulf of Mexico. This only increased tensions between the two nations, which came to a height with the construction of the U.S. Fort Texas on the north bank of the Rio Grande, opposite the Mexican town of Matamoros, a natural choke point (Carney, 2005). Up to the War, the American and Mexican armies were about as much the same as they were different. The American force, renamed the U.S. Army of Occupation, was led by General Taylor who had severed in the army since the War of 1812 and was known by his men as Old Rough and Ready. The American Army, organized based on European models, had a strength of 8,613 men and contained only regulars (Carney, 2005). • 12. My First Certificate Course Of Computer Science STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The computer technology has ushered in a revolution that is unprecedented in its sweep. Its effect on the everyday lives of ordinary people has been phenomenal. Right from the super satellite control stations to the grocer s shop, the multinational company and the busy kitchen in the home this technology is all pervasive, all consuming. This is what makes it one of the most challenging fields as it not only meets needs but has the power to create new needs, rules and total environments of its own. I completed my first certificate course in computers in 1995, it was on GWBASIC language. Since then, computers became a curiosity for me. Due to financial problems at home back then, I could not take admission in an undergraduate course of computer engineering. Therefore, I joined Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) course with major in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. • 13. Similarities Between Sumerian And Mesopotamia The ancient civilizations of Sumer and Egypt were each shaped by their environments. In the Sumer civilization they lived on a flat plain with few mountains to buffer them from invasion and relied on an unpredictable twin river system. Sumer lacked vital natural resources such as wood and precious metals. In Egyptthey had the advantage of a consistent flooding season as well as protection of natural barriers surrounding them. These natural boundaries included desert, mountain, as well as water. Where Sumerlacked natural resources, Egypt was blessed with a plentiful supply of them. From the river flooding of their plains to the natural barriers or lack thereof surrounding their area helped influence how these civilizations handled their government, writing, and agriculture. The nature of their life giving rivers affected both Sumer and Egypt. Whether it was the consistent flooding of the Nile or the erratic nature of the Tigris Euphrates delta each river had an impact on the way of life in these civilizations. Sumer blossomed in the Tigers Euphrates valley in an area referred to as Mesopotamiawhich The Earth and its Peoples defines as land between rivers For the Sumerians the Tigris and Euphrates flooding was unpredictable and would destroy farms and crops. The flooding in Mesopotamia would occur in the summer from the melting snow in the mountains, too late for the ideal planting season. However, the twin rivers provided vital trade routes as well as rich silt that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Narrative Style And Film Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel The Grand Budapest Hotel revolves around Europe of the 1930s and 1960s while it was in time of the war, through the adventures of The Grand Budapest Hotel s doorman Zero and the Hotel manager Gustave. The saga is linked to a burglar and a Renaissance painting, a great family s wealth war, and the sudden change of war in Europe. It reflects the vicissitudes of political history in Europe for half a century. This article will analyze The Grand Budapest Hotel from two aspects: artistic style and film theme. I. Artistic style The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a strong personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a deliberately orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour is often through Deadpan expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the restraint and slight change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props and sets of his films are often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but many new elements are added. 1. Narrative mode In terms of the overall structure of the film, this film breaks through the previous single line narrative mode, using four layers of nested narrative structure, layer by layer, and without any lack of independence. The first level is a little girl went to the cemetery to worship writer s grave, she put the key to hanging on the writer statue, and took out a book called The Grand Budapest Hotel , she turned to the end of the book, the book was printed with pictures of writer; the second level is the story of the girl who began to pay tribute to the author in the cemetery. The third level is in The Grand Budapest Hotel, where old Zero tells his story to a young man. Time and space returned to Zero when Zero was young, and this began the journey of Zero and Mr. Gustave, this is the fourth level of narrative mode. Skip the middle specific storyline and go straight to the end. Gustave s last moments are in black and white. Then, when the writer was young, he ended his conversation with Zero, and the writer was sitting in the lobby of The Grand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genes and Their Control Over Humans Essay Genes and Their Control Over Humans They (genes) are in you and me; they created us, body and mind This statement by Richard Dawkins poses the question of how much and in what way our genes control us, whether they are responsible for our hereditary features only, or for all behavior and environmental aspects of our persona. A reductionist view implies that only specific tasks are carried out by the genes. We know that most genes synthesize for proteins, these being chains of sub units, or amino acids (a.a) which in turn form the bases of RNA ( ribonucleic acid) to determine the sequence of the a.a by means of the genetic code. This formed the basis of all future genetic studies. Mendel had suggested that an individual s characteristics were determined by inherited factors. This finding was proved to be correct when later microscopes were able to show proof that these factors, known now alleles, could be related to the actions of the chromosomes, the carriers of genes, during meiosis. Thus, the theory that genes were the basis of all biological characteristics of inheritance became accepted. Both Mendel and Darwin have presented their theories from a reductionist viewpoint. Dawkins statement from The Selfish Gene would appear to give an holistic viewpoint by including the psychological, as well as biological, aspect of gene control. 2 To decide whether this is the viewpoint being put forward it is necessary to investigate known causes of gene manipulation. This would encompass every factor of nature and nurture, from genetic inheritance; be it eye or hair colour, or diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Huntington s chorea or haemophilia. Cystic fibrosis is an example of an autosomal recessive alteration within a single gene, this gene has been identified as lying on chromosome number 7. Calcium Translocation within Plant Soil solution Ca2+ enters the root apoplast with mass flow of water (Barber 1995) and is transported to the xylem via apoplastic or symplastic pathways (White and Broadley 2003). Apoplastic pathway consists of cell wall and intercellular spaces where Ca2+ moves with water passively across the gradient of water potential (Karley and White 2009; White 2001). Symplastic pathway consists of cytoplasm where Ca2+ moves from cell to cell through plasmodesmata (Karley and White 2009; White 2001). Tight regulation of cytosolic Ca2+ at a very low concentration (0.1 0.2 ОјM) implies that apoplastic pathway is the main route of Ca2+ translocation across the root cortex (White and Broadley 2003; Taylor and Locascio 2004; Karley and White 2009). However, presence of Casparian strip at the root endodermal cells prevents further movement of Ca2+ towards the xylem. In 1935, she got her big breakthrough when she recorded four sides, which featured What a Little Moonlight Can Do, and Miss Brown to You. She made the songs classics because of her singing ability. Her voice quality wasn t outstanding and her vocal range was limited, but she had an uncanny ability to breathe life into a song, using things like pauses and slurs which made the song become a story or an experience, rather than just a group of notes sang with a voice. During 1936, Holiday toured with groups led by Jimmie Lunceford and Fletcher Henderson, then went back to New York for several more recording sessions. Media’s Influence on Children and Adolescents Essay examples Unlike previous generations who were introduced to the internet, television and social media, the present generation is born in it. By this statement, it is implied that children today are much closer to technology and media than adults are, and so, are more likely to be affected by it. Perhaps, the highest impact on the physical, cognitive, and social emotional development of children and adolescents is by media due to its ready availability through Smart phones, tablet PCs and other portable devices. This paper attempts to evaluate some of the influences of media on various aspects of child and adolescent development. Impact on cognitive development: Media promotes depression, anxiety and violent behavior in children. This is because many acts of violence are depicted in prime time shows and in video games. High levels of television viewing are causally related to aggressive behavior and the acceptance of aggressive attitudes (as cited in Strasburger Donnerstein, 1999, p. 132). Furthermore, media affects children s ability to learn. This is because they get used to learning through song and dance on edutainment TV shows, and when such excitement is absent at school, they feel it is boring and tend to lose interest in academics (Clean Cut Media, 2010). More and more children are being diagnosed with attention disorders because they tend to multi task while using media, by listening to music, chatting online, watching TV etc., at the same time (Clean Cut Media, 2010). An advantage of the internet is that it promotes learning through interactive media and interesting content, but utilizing it depends on the choice of the children. • 34. Free Will And Free Choice Freedom of Will The alarm clock sounds, you get up and stand before your wardrobe, facing a decision. The white shirt or the blue, both clean, both equally nice, but it is still an easy decision. The blue. You revel in your creativity and ready yourself for the day to come. The freedom you have always known permitted the choice, your free will grants you this privilege. Or does it? Free will is a false concept often confused with free choice. Free will does not truly exist, the limitations set by nature and the influence of other people hinder the ability to choose without the impact of past experiences. As Barbara Smoker, a British Humanist activist and freethought advocate stated, Free choice means you are not forced by other people or what is outside of you. Free will is the idea that you are not programmed by past and present circumstances to do what you do now, (1). We as human beings are naturally reliant on other human beings for our daily dose of interaction. This is where the magic begins. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has criticism, and everyone has different likes and dislikes, however they are not our own. Most of our childhood experiences shape the people we become. For example, if you had a dog instead of a cat, and that dog was fairly well behaved, you are likely to prefer dogs to cats when you grow older. Or, if you had a dog and it was not well behaved, it is likely you will grow to dislike either the breed or dogs in general. Our opinions and our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Care services sector s role is to deliver social care systems which offer care equality for all individuals, while allowing people to retain their independence, dignity and control. During the past 20 years the need for social care services in the UK slightly increased. This is mainly due to demographic factors such as an increasing aging population. Therefore this means that more care and residential care homes are needed. Also, a number of women with small children, who decided to come back to work, is growing. There are 3 different types of referrals: self referral, professional referral and third party referral, each of them involves different process. Self referral is when individuals suspects by themselves that they have some problems with their social issues. Therefore, they self refer to a social care specialist in order to receive the help and support that they need. Professional referral is when a service user already contacted or used the service; however if the professional suspects any kind of underlying health problem, the patient will be referred directly to another professional. For example if the social worker suspects a child abuse in the family, he/she may refer the child to a counsellor or psychologist to sort out the problem. Third party referral, is when a non professional person such as relative, friend or neighbour contacts with the services in order to help the individual they know about. For example the resident of the residential care home may be referred by the home manager to see a social worker. In Le Morte d Arthur adultery is one of the most important themes and Arthur has a lot to do with it. First of all he was born because of adultery between his mother Igraine, who was actually married to the duke of Tintagil, and his father King Uther Pendragon. Secondly he commits adultery himself with his sister, King Lot s wife. Their child Mordredwill destroy him at the end of the book and so he is punished for his sin. For example, when Arthur sleeps with his sister Morgause and gets her pregnant with Mordred, he dreams about serpents and dragons that wound him. Right before he gets killed by Mordred, he dreams about them again, but this time they destroy him. Dragons and serpents, in this case, symbolise destruction and the death of Arthur (NoodГ©n 1992). The white brachet that ran in court with a lady on a palfrey and a hart is one of these symbols as well. In medieval times, the brachet was a symbol for love, which is why Tor is sent to fetch the brachet rather than Gawaine or Pellinore, as they are not capable of loving the way Tor is (Dagg 1969). Finally the Questing Beast is an important animal symbol, symbolising a meaningless quest. Sir Pellinore has to hunt it down, but it seems quite a useless thing to do. This symbolises the way he does other quests, like when he has to find the lady of the hart and brachet and refuses to help another lady in need. The quest he is doing is made useless because of that, as he is not being chivalrous. In this case the Questing Beast is a reflection of Pellinore s personality (Dagg ... All of the resources, except iron, that the nation requires, it produces on its own. The Utopians live a very simple lifestyle. They work, and in their spare time play games, read, and socialize. However, gold and silver play a very different role in Utopia. There is no monetary system; all of the people are provided with what they need. Instead of working to get money with which they can choose what they want, their work is repaid with everything they need. What each person needs is decided by them alone, and there is no risk of anyone taking more than they need. Why would anyone take more than they need when they will always be provided for? There is no reason to store up for the future, and there is nothing to do with extra, unnecessary products. The gold and silver then is used for purchasing mercenaries for use in war and for paying citizens of other nations to turn against their country in war. Since gold is of no use to the people of Utopia, it is stored as chamber pots, and cheap jewelry worn only by the bondman, the lowest of Utopian people. When a time comes that requires the use of gold, the Utopians gladly give it up, for to them it is just a toilet. The Utopian government also uses its gold to lend to other nations in need. They are very liberal with their loans, and do not always ask for them to be repaid. Their reasoning is that they have no use for the gold, for they have a surplus of that as well, and the other nation that is in debt has very good use for it. This economy seems very ...
