As of the end of 2015, there were 1,526,800 prisoners in the United States being held in state or
federal correctional facilities. Every year, thousands of people are released from jail or prison.
Most people who are incarcerated today will eventually be released. Most of these individuals
return to a life of freedom without the skills they need to survive. Recidivismrates suggest that
many of these individuals will re offend within six months of release, and most will reoffend
within three years. This is not because they re bad people; it s because they are trying to thrive in a
system that sets them up to fail.
Given grim post release arrest rates, it s hard to understand why our government is not doing more
to help those transitioning from incarceration to life on the outside. It doesn t make sense for
taxpayer dollars to go towards incarcerating people over and over it seems that the money could be
better spent improving rehabilitation programs for inmates. Increased funding for programs aimed
at helping former inmates transition to life on the outside would likely lead to better outcomes for

our society would want to see people who are incarcerated serve their time, get rehabilitated, get

The Safety Hood was a cotton hood protected people from inhaling smoke and poisonous gasses
and instead gave them purer air through two hoses with wet sponges as filters at ends. This is
much unlike the plastic and rubbery gas masks with a screw on replaceable filter on the side
you probably see in most media. As I m sure you know, the gas mask was used a lot in many
different places and jobs. Of course, the most common were military and firefighters.
Firefighters use it just for what Garrett had made it for, easy breathing in smoke filled rooms and
areas. Although the military did use gas masks in many wars, one little known fact is that
despite common belief, Morgan s Safety Hood was not the version of the gas mask used in
World War I. You see, because the gas in World War I needed to get into the trenches, it was
heavy and creeped along the ground, because of this, a lot of the gas would be at floor where the

but it would instead have sucked in more of the gas than a soldier would if they just breathed
