Investigating Crime and Relevant Issues Essay
Investigating Crime and Relevant Issues
Crime is defined as an act which is prohibited by criminal law. These criminal activities are prohibited
for the protection of society as a whole, or a section of society. Each country has its own series of
prohibited criminal acts. In England, if a criminal act is committed, the persons responsible are issued
punishment of a fine, community service or imprisonment. Although criminal activity is seen by
society to be morally wrong, and is punishable, people still continue to commit crime.
Forensic psychology attempts to apply psychological principles to the criminal justice system. For
many years psychologists have tried to explain why some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals that had these features were considered to be a more primitive type of human being.
Among the features which Lombroso identified were the following: an over sized brain; squinting
eyes; prominent eye brows and a projecting jaw.
Lombroso believed that these primitive humans could not adjust socially or morally to civilised
society, could not distinguish right from wrong, had no remorse or guilt and therefore could not form
meaningful relationships. Lombroso determined, Some people are born with a strong, innate
predisposition to behave antisocially, (L Uomo Delinquente, Lombroso, 1876).
Evaluation of Lombroso s Theory
Lombroso made a major contribution to establishing the study of criminal behaviour and was
responsible for moving the study of criminology towards scientific research, indicating that biological
influences could affect criminality.
However Lombroso s experiments cannot be considered to be valid because he never compared his
criminal sample to a non criminal control group or took account of racial and ethical differences. He
recorded inaccurate measurements, which were not based on proper statistical techniques or an
accurate understanding of human physique. Also a large proportion of Lombroso s sample had
psychological disorders. This would mean that there was no

Realism In International Relations
Realism is not a new concept. Classical Realism has its roots firmly placed in ancient Greece at the
time of Thucydides where in the History of the Poloponneasean War he wrote The strong do what they
have the power to do, the weak accept what they have to accept (Thucydides 1972: 402).
Thucydides is thought to explain the role of power within politics at this early stage (Donelly, 2000)
through to the time of Machiavelli in the 16th Century. Stanley Hoffman is quoted as saying that the
theory is ...probably the most distinguished school of thought in the history of international relations
(Hoffman, 1988 p.6). Whilst Realism, as a concept, has helped to define International Relations by
fostering the notion that power is the only political gain to be wanted, Robert Gilpin sees it as a ...
philosophical disposition and set of assumptions about the world rather than as in any strict sense a
scientific theory (Gilpin, 1984 p. 290). Realists are unified in believing that Power and survival is
fundamentally the most desired thing between the universal actors: The States. The theory is built on a
basis of pessimism and that that politics is a tussle for both power and survival and labels politics on
an international scale as a series of recurrent conflicts among states with very little prospect for
change (Jackson and Sorensen, 2007). Whilst there are similarities which bind the different veins of
realism together, this essay will look at those different veins within the

Review of the 2005 Film version of Pride and Prejudice Essay
For any great reader, it is known that the book is always better than the movie. Try as they may,
moviemakers can never fully capture the author s magic from the original text. I am happy to say that
this is not the case in the 2005 movie version of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen was a fabulous
writer and her novels have captured the attention of booklovers for centuries. The screenwriter,
Deborah Moggach, takes Austen s slightly rambling story and polishes it up and makes it easy for
modern day people to understand.
In the days when fathers were forbidden, by law, to leave property to their daughters, two sisters,
Elizabeth and Jane Bennet are being pressured to marry rich gentlemen. It is luck then, which brings
two such young men, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through a series of misunderstandings, Jane and Charles are separated at the great dismay of the
whole family. The main focus however, is Elizabeth and whom she chooses to marry. Many
undercurrents and sub plots occur in the story. And with a house full of girls, how could it be
different?
The costume and set designs in the movie are astoundingly realistic. Instead of looking like costumes
and sets, the clothing looks like things a person would have worn or lived in during that period of
time. While other versions of this same novel have elaborate costumes and fancy clothes, the costumes
in the 2005 version are much simpler, which makes it seem much more real. Most of the filming took
place in locations which were around when the novel was written, which eliminates the modernism of
the movie. Unspoiled beauty was the order of the day in this version of Pride and Prejudice.
Kiera Knightly, who played Elizabeth Bennet, could also be described as an unspoiled beauty. Her
acting is superb without being overly perfect. Other wonderful actors include Mathew Macfayden,
Rosamund Pike, and Simon Woods as Darcy, Jane and Bingly, respectively. Throughout the whole
film, an impression of not trying too hard is given off, which keeps it fresh, and the acting is no
different. The actors know who their roles are and played them as real people, not dramatic overdone
characters.

The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx
After reading the memoir titled The Heroin Diaries, in which the author, Nikki Sixx, presents a first
hand account of his battles with heroin addiction over the course of one year, we must incorporate
certain concepts in order to better understand his condition. In this essay I will explore concepts such
as empathy, self responsibility and personal identity as identified in Identity and Agency: Conceptual
Lessons for the Psychiatric Ethics of Patient Care as well as the concepts of detached and affective
blame brought forth by Hannah Pickard in Responsibility Without Blame: Philosophical Reflections
on Clinical Practice. Through exploration of these concepts I will show how they apply to Nikki Sixx
and his seemingly endless battles with addiction. In his paper, Identity and Agency, Dr. Graham uses
the hypothetical scenario of a girl named Theresa who suffers from a mental disorder in which she
suffers with self responsibility and personal identity. In the scenario laid out in the paper, the reader is
asked to assume the role of her psychiatrist and imagine ways in which she can be helped. One of the
methods implied by Dr. Graham is empathy for the patient. Dr. Graham explains, Trying to recognize
what is or may be intelligible in a patient s inner life is part of understanding their best interests as
individuals and of recognizing how to help them. (Graham, pp.7 8). After reading my memoir I am
more capable of having empathy for the subject in the memoir, Nikki Sixx.

The Relation Between Cognition And Language
The relation between cognition and language has been a curious topic for many decades now.
Cognition plays a dynamic role within linguistic expression
Most of current discussion in layman s crowd is on a speaker s ability to impart influence on an
audience. We study the power of language in propaganda. We look at the sway that specific words
have on an individual s emotions.
Linguistic scholars have looked into the opposite the influence of words on the speaker.
Around the world there are almost 8000 languages spoken. Unsurprisingly, with this range come
significant differences in what is spoken and understood in each language, from information conveyed
by each word to what kind of informative words are even included in the language.
So how does one s language influence one s thoughts? This question has been disputed since the Sapir
Whorf hypothesis, also known as linguistic relativity hypothesis, implicated that a language s features
determines its speaker s thoughts. (danza) the idea dated centuries back, but this was the first
substantial hypothesis, formed during 1930 s based on the thoughts of two linguists Edward Sapir and
Benjamin Lee Whorf.
Language seems to invade daily mental processes more so than previously expected. Because
language pervades everything we do in labeling colors, counting numbers, adjectives, and verbs,
simple tasks become hard to accomplish without using the language faculty. Examples would be far
and few in between where thinking does not

The Man Without A Face Character Analysis
The Man Without a Face
The 1993 movie, The Man Without a Face, is about a former teacher, Justin McLeod, turned painter
who was involved in a fatal road accident that killed a male student who was traveling with him and
severely scarred the right side of his body. After the crash and serving some prison time, McLeod
moved to an Island off the coast of Maine where he leads an isolated life as a painter. The community
avoids McLeod because the physical scars make him ugly and even scary. Additionally, the town
spreads many wrong rumors of him and call him names except for one boy, Chuck Nordstadt. He
gravely needs McLeod s help to pass his admission exams to a military school. At the start of their
encounters, McLeod avoids Chuck because he fears a repeat of the painful past that involved the death
of his student. However, Chuck insistence and persistence to make McLeod his tutor softens McLeod
s stance, and he embraces the idea of tutoring him. Soon, the private tutoring sessions become public
when Chuck skips home one night and is found at McLeod s house the next morning. Later, McLeod
is forced to leave the island to avoid trouble with this community who have always misunderstood
him (Gibson, 1993). Below is an analysis of the film.
The film has several characters, such as McLeod, Chuck (son), Chuck (father), Catherine (Chuck s
mother), Gloria (Chuck s sister), Megan (Chuck s sister), Chief Wayne Stark, Prof. Hartley, and many
more (Gibson, 1993). Of these characters,

JUDICIAL REVIEW AND THE INDIAN COURTS
Introduction
Judicial Review is basically an aspect of judicial power of the state which is exercised by the courts to
determine the validity of a rule of law or an action of any agency of the state. The courts have the
power of testing the validity of legislative as well as other governmental action with reference to the
provisions of the constitution. The judiciary tries to undo the harm that is being done by the legislature
and executive and they also try to provide every citizen what has been guaranteed by the constitution.
Judicial review has a more technical significance in public law, ... Show more content on

Judicial Review in India
The constitution of India, in this respect, is more similar to the U.S. Constitution than the British.
Under the constitution of India parliament is not supreme. Its powers are limited in the two ways.
First, there is the division of powers between the union and the states. Parliament is allowed to pass
laws only with respect to those subjects which are guaranteed to the citizens against every form of
legislative encroachment. The power of judicial review of legislation is given to the judiciary both by
the political theory and text of the constitution. There are several specific provisions in the Indian
constitution, judicial review of legislation such as Act 13, 32, 131 136, 143, 226, 145, 246, 251, 254
and 372.
Judicial review is a great weapon given to the judges. It includes the power of a court to hold illegal
and unenforceable any law or order based upon such law or some other activity by an open power
which is conflicting or in clash with the fundamental law that must be adhered to. Truth be told, the
investigation of constitutional law may be depicted as an investigation of the precept of judicial
review in action. The courts have force to strike down any law, on the off chance that they trust it to be
unconstitutional. In the case I.R. Coelho v. State of Tamil Nadu the court laid down a

Genetic Engineering Is Responsible And Manipulating The...
A couple, a man and a woman, sit in front of a screen. The woman said, Let s choose brown hair and
grey eyes for him. Oh! He needs to be tall and smart, replied the man. What the couple is doing is
designing their future baby. It might sound crazy to be able to engineer one s children genetically, but
technological advancements in the medical and scientific fields have allowed this as a possible option
for potential parents. Genetic engineering is controlling and manipulating the genes of an organism.
Genetic engineering is usually used to improve the organism s functions; these organisms are known
as genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Genetic engineering is commonly used for the food
industry. One benefit that results from genetically modified foods is the lowered prices for the
products. However, there can be hazardous side effects such as the creation of new toxins (Goldbas,
2014, p. 22). Likewise, mutations in the DNA can occur from genetically engineering a baby. In spite
of the threatening effects to the baby s health from genetic engineer, I believe giving people to the
option to design their perfect babies allows for the genetic tree of infertile parents to continue;
however, I believe the range of genes that future parents can select for their fetus has to be restricted to
the genes the parents already carried in their DNA. Before the concept of designing one s perfect baby
can be grasp, one must understand the events in science building up to the

Composer Franz Schubert As A Master Composer Of Songs
Viennese composer Franz Schubert is often regarded as a master composer of songs. He is also known
for creative and unexpected movement between keys in his compositions. Dying at a tragically young
age, Schubert managed to release an enormous body of works, publishing over two hundred songs
while alive. Despite this already impressive output of songs, nothing stopped Schubert from
composing symphonies, chamber music, and solo works as well. Close analysis of his music reveals
how skillfully Schubert was able to set text, move fluidly to foreign keys, and much more. In this
paper, Schubert s vocal piece entitled Erlkönig and his work for solo piano, Moments Musicaux 5 in F
minor, will be explored more deeply The text in Erlkönig begins and ends with a nameless narrator.
He opens, setting the scene, a father rides with his sick child in the night, racing to a nearby farmhouse
to get help for his son. Schubert s repeated octave staccato triplets suggest the hoofbeats of the
important fifth character, the horse, the vehicle of hope and deliverance; the four minutes of his song
convey the urgency of a ride against an indistinct but baleful force (Bamforth). During the ride, the
son recounts his hallucination of the Erlking, the king of the elves, chasing them to his father. The boy
says the Erlking is promising the boy him, games, even his daughters, but his father tries to calm him,
sying these are only wind rustling in the leaves and silhouettes of willow trees. In the

Global Almond Market Vs. California
Part #1 GLOBAL ALMOND MARKET vs. CALIFORNIA S WATER DROUGHT California
Almonds are crunchy, delicious, and healthy and currently are becoming one of the world s favorite
snacks. Almonds are currently consumed about 1000% more than they did a decade ago by people
from around the world and became the most exported crop in the nation s top agriculture state (While
California FightsDrought, Almonds Using More Water Than Residents, 3). In addition, almonds are
tremendously profitable, generating approximately $11 billion to the state s economy in 2014 alone

According to a youtube video from Tandrea, Tree T Pee is proven to save water from 10,000 gallons
annually per tree to only using 800 gallons annually per tree. Also, it saves 300% 600% fuel costs,
fertilizers, and herbicides and help grows young trees faster. The secret of this containment system is
forcing the water to focus around a 24 inch diameter and keep the soil moist rather than sprinkling
water in a 10 foot diameter, wasting most of the water (Tandrea, December 2014). Hence, from my
calculation, instead of consuming 1.07 trillion gallons of water annually in California for almond,
farmers could only use 85.6 billion gallons of water annually in California and also have the benefit of
saving fuel costs, fertilizers, and herbicides. Moreover, engagement of stakeholders is needed to make
this solution go smoothly and achieve success of preventing the drought issue in California to
continue. The master plan is to have all farmers in California to use Tree T Pee to all of their
plantations to reduce water usage and alleviate the issue of drought. In order for this plan to be a
reality, several stakeholders need to work together and engage with each other, which include the
government, the farmers, and the environmentalist. I would start by interacting with several farmers in
California directly by going to their farm and conduct an interview regarding the best way to limit the
water usage and

My extended family originates from the rural areas of Pakistan, I spent first 8 years of my life there

South East Asia, while growing up, some members of my extended family lived with us in one
household. This extended family structure is very common in Pakistan and the surrounding areas,
often times it is also follows a very gendered model of what the male and female members should be

parents work as a team to get work done as effectively as they can. For example, if my mother is at

I look back to my days growing up in Pakistan, I cannot recall many times I saw my Dad in the

One of the key notions of women working that we talked about in class is the belief that women who

talk about my experience with my Mom working. Even though what she brings home pales in

not just helping out , that is making a vast measurable difference in the quality of an individual s life.

gender norms of our native Pakistani culture and giving my sister and I a different gendering process,

Similarities Between Mary Shelley And Mary Wollstonecraft
The differences and similarities in the life of Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft in their roles as
feminist
According to Greenblatt, in early English history, women were restricted in doing so many things that
men were free to do. Women were provided with limited education and provided with a rigid code of
sexual behavior especially after marriage. During this period, (the Romantic period) women were
strictly distinguished from their male counterparts and were given strict roles such as child bearing,
household keeping and nothing more (9). According to Cervo (1988), Mary Wollstonecraft and her
daughter Shelly were two very existential women because they existed as women and were
surrounded by weak and/or dishonest men who were unsure of themselves and the meaning and role
of their sexuality in the real world (17). It is quiet surprising that Mary Shelley, daughter of a
renowned feminist Mary Wollstonecraft would write her novel from the perspective of three men with
very small attention to the female character (Davis, 1992). In the course of this essay, I would talk
about the similarities between Mary Shelley and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft and differences that
existed between them in their roles as far as women rights were concerned.
According to Greenblatt, Mary Wollstonecraft, was the second of five children and the oldest daughter
and most often she witnessed the brutality of her father towards her mother (208). I imagine growing

observation I interviewed two players and one parent. I viewed a 7 8 year old youth basketball game.
There are many different factors that involve youth sports. The first relationship is the player to player
relationship. The players interact with each other often, on and off the field. During timeouts and in
between quarters players initiate interaction between each other. The players mainly just want to have
fun. The next relationship is between the parents and players. Most of the interaction between them is
initiated by the parents. They tend to yell things at their child to make them play better or to
complement them. The players don t talk back to the parents. A couple parents at halftime would bring
their child something to drink and talk to them.

The Importance Of Managing Time
The semester goal this year was to go from a 2.75 GPA to a 3.4 GPA. While trying to maintain this
average, students should know that they will need to study more frequently by using the school
resources such as the CLC and the library area to stay more focused. By having confidence, knowing
how to manage time, and communicating with he or she professors, students should pass easily by
doing these things. But first, let s talk about confidence. When students go to class they seem to not

any assignments, is to communicate with the professors. By communicating with the professors, that
will let them know that their students want to succeed and they will want to help more often by
making up their own study sessions and giving students study guides on what should be on the tests

The Adult Human Brain Retains a Large Amount of Plasticity
It is now widely recognised that the adult human brain retains a larger degree of plasticity than was
previously thought. This is perhaps particularly true of the neural mechanisms underlying sensory
perception, where substantial behavioural and neural changes have been demonstrated in a wide
variety of sensory functions following experience. Sensory plasticity has been recognised for its
rehabilitative potential, for instance through perceptual training regimes, which have been used to
improve visual function in adults with amblyopia, a developmental disorder of vision, and those with
central vision loss. Now a new study provides evidence for visual plasticity in adults with long
standing central vision loss who did not undergo any specific training (Chung, 2013a). Central vision
loss, primarily brought about by age related macular degeneration, is the leading cause of irreversible
blindness in the developed world (Bunce and Wormald, 2006). The vast majority of individuals with
central vision loss develop a preferred retinal locus (PRL), a specific region of the peripheral visual
field that they use to perform everyday tasks such as reading. However, peripheral vision is limited in
a number of ways in comparison to foveal vision. For example, in people with normal vision, reading
speed, contrast sensitivity and visual acuity are worse in the periphery compared to the fovea.
Additionally, peripheral vision is limited by visual crowding, which describes the increased

Dewas Short Story
Dewas
Better known as flying squirrels
Charity stretched lazily and smiled, remembering Henry s lips hungrily upon hers, and his arms
holding her tight. Was it just a dream... she wondered. It seemed so real, as did her floating though the
night winds to go to where he was. She had felt as if she were flying, gliding upon the winds like an
eagle.
When she pulled back the flap to crawl out from under the wagon, she was surprised to see the sun
had been up at least an hour! Oh Lord, I m being lazy this morning, she mumbled aloud. She hadn t
slept this late since she was a young child. She guessed the reason must ve been the late night,

About a mile and a half up from where they were camped, she came to a spot where the river crossed
the road; what appeared to be a structure of some sort, maybe a covered bridge or something, was
visible on the other side of the channel. It could have been an out building from a farm forced into the
river by the force of so much rain falling at once...
Seeing the water over the road, Charity gauged the depth of the rising river, by marking a spot on the
structure with a tree on shore. From living along the Savannah, she knew that once the river crested, it
would eventually begin to recede. How long that took; depended on how much rain had fallen upriver.
She decided she would ride back up there later that afternoon to see how much higher the water had
risen, or hopefully, it would be receding by then.
Riding back to camp, she saw fresh tracks, where deer had crossed the road. She would come back
later and see if she could kill one. If so, it would supply them with meat for a long while if she could

Pros And Disadvantages Of Automation
Automation is a beautiful endeavor. Much like the tools of the past, automation makes our lives as
people easier. Today s technologies allow for more work to be done in less time, for less money, and
with less human effort. Jobs that are in the inconvenient middle of being too repetitive to be
interesting, but too complex for conventional computers to handle can now be automated seamlessly
seamlessly in ways that are more efficient and safe than in ways humans can manage. A potent
example would be cooking. Cooking is an occupation that requires precise measurements of both time
and material. If you cook something for too long of a time, it burns up or is overcooked. If you cook
something for too short of a time, it becomes undercooked. This may be a problem for humans, but
this is far from one for computers. The only input a computer needs is the perfect example to do the
task perfectly. The many benefits of switching to automated operation makes it tempting for business
owners to switch to it. However, a problem arises when one too many business owners decide to
automate everything. The root of this problem stems from the nature of the free market. Money
circulates around the country from buyer to seller, or in our case, from employer to employee. The
employer fulfills the want or need of a client that they cater to. To better serve these clients, they hire
employees to either do more of the work, or research how to do the work better. In return, the
employees are given

Zzzz Best Case Study
ZZZZ Best, a carpet cleaning company, was founded by Barry Minkow in 1982 in Reseda, California.
Barry always wished to succeed in business and become the American Dream of financial success.
When he was nine years old, he worked as a telemarketer in a carpet cleaning business. Six years later,
when he was only sixteen years old, he began his personal carpet business in his parent s garage in
Los Angeles (ZZZZ Best Case Places SEC Procedures Under Scrutiny). He had three employees and
was considered the most successful teenage businessman in the United States. Minkow discovered he
could become very successful in business through insurance restoration. He would file a claim for
restoration of the business from a natural disaster. ZZZ Best was profitable in carpet cleaning, yet 85%
of the business profits came from fraudulent insurance restoration business. Minkow used insurance
restoration as a cover for the cost of the money he was acquiring illegally (Taylor). Shortly after,
insurance restoration became the major source of revenue for the company s income, rather than
carpet cleaning. Minkow s dream in becoming successful in business caused him to become more
innovative. He started using his counterfeit financial statements to persuade wealthy entrepreneurs to
invest in ZZZZ Best. Ultimately, Minkow realized that the crucial scam would be to make his
company public. This would enable him to utilize the bank accounts of investors nationwide. By

Essay On Pro Life Vs Pro Choice
I had the opportunity to research the difference between pro life and pro choice. Myself along with 3

information that was credible, and spending time together in the library took hard work. Not only did
we have to research our own given side, we had to gain knowledge on pro live as well. After hours of
research and collaboration, we all felt confident for this debate. No one in my group has been into a

The Impact of Invasive Species on Ecosystems Essay
Influence on ecosystems range from human causes like the bulldozing of a forest to natural causes like
a fire or a flood. In recent times, the introduction and spread of invasive species has transformed
native communities rapidly and, in some cases, created irreversible damages. In the Earth s history,
changes have often occurred in the ecosystems. For example, glaciers and the retreat of glaciers cause
wide spread changes. However, although change is a constant in ecosystems, animals and habitats
often cannot adapt to the rapid alterations of non natural stresses. Harm to the environment from the
introduction of invasive species occurs through changes in the habitat and declines in the native
species. Invasive species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Van Driesche, nonnative species are more likely to establish if they invade habitats with
lowered biotic resistance, encounter prey with poorly developed mechanisms of self defense, or
invade habitats unaccompanied by their specialized natural enemies or when their invasion is
facilitated by earlier invaders (2000). Damage to these communities, then, can be seen both in
cumulative effects and in a cycle of self reinforcement. Although pristine environments are still at risk
from invasion, this positive feedback loop makes habitats already with a disturbance by exotics even
more vulnerable to other invasions. With the increasing amount of disturbed habitats, invasive species
could soon become the leading cause of ecological degradation (Soulé Orians, 2001). Invasive species
can alter habitats in a number of ways. Changes in the physical structure of the land are the most
visually obvious. Examples include narrowing stream channels, reducing sand supply to dunes, and
stabilizing surfaces such as mudflats, and each invasive species goes about these changes in their own
way. For instance, the burrowing activities of Australian isopods cause the banks of tidal channels to
collapse, leading to the widening of channels and the loss of vegetated salt marsh (Cox, 1999). On the
other hand, Japanese mussels that have invaded the San Diego area are stabilizing mudflats. Although
reaching Southern California in the 1960s,

What Is A Good Character Essay
What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and
the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character
is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters
because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way
we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a
role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude
and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good
character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to express good character. Being thankful
and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us strengthen our character and show others the
good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of being humble and allowing others to see that we don
t think we are better than them. Gratitude can sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to
show how grateful we are. Thank you cards, gift baskets, personal thank you s, gifts, and small acts of

Film Techniques Used In Edward Scissorhands

make his films interesting. Some of the films that he uses his techniques in are Charlie and the
Chocolate factory,Edward scissorhands and Corpse bride by using lighting, camera movement, and
diegetic and nondiegetic sound.
One of the best techniques a director can use to create a mood and tone would be Lighting. In Edward
Scissorhands Tim Burton uses Low Key lighting to create a suspenseful and scary mood. For example
when Peg is walking into Edward s house the lighting is dark which makes the audience curious as to

In the film Edward Scissorhands Tim Burton includes instruments to give an emotional mood. For
example when Edward is trying to open the lock with his hand you can hear the use of violins and
drums to create a fast paste of suspicion to the audience. Unlike the violins and drums that were being
played when Edward was walking out of the house that showed a concerned mood. Unlike the non
Diegetic sound during the scene when Jim and Kim are driving away from the crime scene which
gives a sense of anxiousness towards the audience , the non diegetic sound when Jim is driving the
van and is about to hit Kevin gave a frightening mood to the audience as to what s going to happen.
Also another film Tim Burton uses sound in would be Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Tim Burton
uses non diegetic sound when something interesting or bad is going to happen to one of the characters.
For example when Veruca goes cloes up to the squirrel and touches it and the squirrels attack her the
music is intense , it gave her dad sense of threatening yet outraged attitude towards Wonka and his

The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern Society
The Prevalence of the Anti Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype has prevailed
throughout literature and media for thousands of years. This quixotic character completes a quest or
expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the
untoward anti hero archetype. Today, the anti hero is largely represented and featured in recent film
and society. The hero archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing
demand of the anti hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti hero archetype.
A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character
presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The anti hero archetype is completely opposite of the
hero archetype. Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti hero usually
has a flawed moral character (Michael). Modern anti heroes lack in grace, power, and social success
(Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti
heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in order to reach something.
They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonist to justice . Traditional hero
characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm
success rate of anti hero victory. Anti heroes also do not let their inner thoughts influence their actions
while original or traditional heroes seek self definition (Teleky). Traditional hero characters often
succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of
anti hero victory. The faultless ways of the hero archetype sets it apart from people in society, making
it extremely unrelatable to the mass amount of humans today, allowing the anti hero archetype to
prevail through. The changes thorough media have led to the decline of the traditional hero archetype.
To relate to society throughout the twentieth and twenty first centuries, television shows and film have
had to conform to new standards. In the beginning, any film was

How Slums Are Constructed And Complex Economic, Social And...
Across the world, whether it be in a first or a third world country, there are populations which tend to
be segregated into communities and form part of the low socioeconomic status. These groups, usually
termed slums , are heavily ostracised and are usually sought to be removed and stopped in their
growth. Drawing from different locations as examples, I will firstly discuss how slums are established
and the many complex economic, social and political issues which keep the slum alive in this modern
age. There is also the matter of highlighting the way in which we define a slum and the people living
within it and how this may affect slum growth. Lastly, I will make an allusion to measures that try and
stop the advance of slums and their effectiveness.
The origins and development of a slum are varied and complex. As there are a myriad of possible
scenarios and variations, to avoid over complexity, there are a few key political, economic and social
factors that are a running theme within the majority of slums. Most of these aspects transpire
concurrently and are inextricably linked. One of the main causes of a slum s creation is due to rapid
urbanisation in a city that is unable to keep up with the growing demands. The rapid influx of people
to cities could be for several reasons: moving from rural areas to find work in bigger cities or
migrating from a war torn country. Upon moving to these larger towns, they are unable to afford
housing due to lower incomes in the

Inside the proposals made recently is a massive corporate tax cut from 39% all the way down to 20%.
This would be a major benefit to corporations in paying less taxes and potentially keeping more
business inside the United States. A big reason as to why many companies place headquarters in other
countries, is that our marginal corporate tax rate is relatively high compared to the rest of the world.
The average around the world is right around 22% (tax foundation citation), whilst some countries like
Ireland is sitting at an extremely low 12.5%. This encourages companies like Apple, to move their
headquarters to Ireland and enjoy a much lower tax rate. The policies inside the U.S. however, state
that even though their headquarters are in Ireland, that they are still required to pay taxes to the U.S.
Until they pay that number they are not allowed to move money and spend it inside the United States.
Trump s proposal would also massively cut the amount of taxes they have owed us for the previous
years as another part of the stimulus package. This package is what he is heavily relying on paying for
the massive amounts of tax cuts. But with how our current economic setup is, and our looming debt,
we need these corporations to put up all the amount they owe the government. The U.S. is not in

Trade Liberalization Can Boost Productivity By Inducing A...
INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND INNOVATION
Submitted By: Muhammad Yousaf
Submitted To: Priit Vahter
Introduction
The trade liberalization can boost productivity by inducing a better allocation of production factors or
the adoption of more advanced technologies. The trade integration reallocates market shares towards
exporters, the most productive firms, increasing aggregate productivity. The resulting increase in
revenues can induce exporters to invest in new technologies. The major advantage of Chinese trade
had been lower prices for consumers in the developed world (Bloom et al. (2011)).
The further discussion about different searches could be found below.
Discussion
The major advantage of Chinese trade had been lower prices for consumers in the developed world.
The increased Chinese trade has induced faster technical change not only innovation but also adoption
of new technologies. Bloom et al. (2011) discover that the absolute volume of innovation (not just per
worker productivity or patents) increases within firms and industries more affected by exogenous
reductions in barriers to the country s imports.
The following three problems were discussed by Bloom et al. (2011). (i) The data from the last decade
used to examine the recent role of trade in affecting technical change in developed countries. (ii) It has
examined off shoring to China, and (iii) the impact of imports on patents, information technology (IT),

The National Security Act Of 1947 Centralized Command And...
The National Security Act of 1947 centralized command and promoted intelligence sharing between
institutions by establishing a Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of Central
Intelligence, and NSC. The President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Army,
Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Air Force, and Chairman of the National Security Resources
Board composed the original statutory members of the NSC. The President was also authorized to
designate other specified officials to the NSC. The NSC staff, which is separate from the Council,
comprises politically appointed individuals and civil servants organized in specialized directorates.
The primary function of the NSC is to advise the President on domestic, foreign, and military policies
relating to the national security. The NSC acts as a coordinator between departments and agencies
across government, and relies on accurate and insightful reports from them to develop national
security policy recommendations for the President. The NSC is unique because it both consumes
intelligence to make recommendations to the President, and guides intelligence activities by
coordinating policies across government. In 1949, the NSC reorganized to incorporate the Vice
President, Secretary of the Treasury, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as remove the Secretaries of the
Army, Navy, and Air Force from the Council. President Harry Truman originally did not regularly

Tradeoffs Between Relational and Object-Oriented Database...
Discuss the tradeoffs between relational and object oriented database management systems
1) Stating Position
The object oriented DBMS is superior to the relational database on some specific counts, primarily
because it can satisfy the complex demands of the market today better than the any other. Secondly
while the relational data base stores data as tables, the object model stores data as objects and creates
associations. This can create a multiple set of attributes for each object such that the data base is more
flexible to the requirements that may be housed for different sets of data having both similar and
dissimilar characteristics. The paradigms then are developed for each set of common characteristics
and unique characteristics of the objects which is not possible in a relational database that has a very
rigid structure. (Bruegge, 2004)
Earlier the heterogeneous systems integration is a major issue. Therefore it has to be considered if the
system proposed is amenable to multiple platforms and will give the same results. There are many
applications available to enforce this, but it is to be borne in mind that in a data management system
many components have to be integrated with the system and the layering of these components
becomes critical. (Thuraisingham, 2001) But the requirements today have gone beyond the traditional
DBMS and the system is expected too seamlessly perform varied functions like tracking functions,
data analysis and reporting, vendor

symbols to express the Chiyo s emotions are prominent even as juvenile. As the book progress, we see
the main character Chiyo develop into an exquisite young woman. Due to that, the symbols used to
portray her, alters accordingly. Golden manipulate these symbolisms to illustrate what Chiyo is feeling
mentally and physically and uses them to express motifs in the book. Notably, the way the author uses
symbols to depict events are intriguing and ingenious and I would like to further investigate the
different meanings of each and every symbol.

Spoken English And Broken English By George Bernard Shaw
Spoken English and Broken English is a transcript of a radio talk recorded in 1927, but is mislabeled
as a prose by countless people across the globe. George Bernard Shaw, spoke on the topic Spoken
English and Broken English on a gramophone recording for the Linguaphone Institute. The recording
was broadcasted over Manhattan s radio station WNEW. This radio talk was a part of a series of talks
called, A Treasure of the Spoken World. Recorded in the backdrop of 1927 s politically unstable
country, Shaw s masterpiece highlighted the need for simple, good and powerful English. Due to the
influx of migrants from different parts of the empire, even the mighty politicians had forgotten the true
essence of the language, and now were not understandable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

B. Shaw explains that although it is an insult to the native speaker of English, who cannot understand
his own language when it is too well spoken, times have changed and we simply have to accept the
fact that Good English is more important than Correct English . Although outdated in modern times,
this piece has not yet become obsolete. Today s modern times may have impacted our other senses in a
positive way but our language skills have definitely suffered. This piece can surely help us understand
the basics of the language and help in efficient communication process. A study of this recording can
help people overcome their obsession for correct English and start focussing on the good aspect of

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Ethical Violations
There were many ethical violations committed in the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, one of those
ethical issues is unfairness because patients were deceived about the real purpose doctors had towards
them. Patients were unaware that they had become part of a study and that they weren t going to get
any real medical treatment from the doctors. Therefore, another ethical violation is racism because
black men were treated unfairly due to their skin color. Since, the patients were unaware of the study
and its purpose another ethical violation is that there was no existence of an informed consent that let
the patient know the procedure, purpose, consequences, and the compensation for participating.
Therefore, the patients in the Tuskegee syphilis

The Relationship Between Shared Knowledge And Personal...
The connection between shared knowledge and personal knowledge vary depending on the cultural
and social background a person is from and most importantly, the area of knowledge a person is
looking at. In our daily lives, we are constantly bombarded with new information that further develops
our knowledge or form new knowledge that helps us understand different perspectives. In this essay,
personal knowledge will be discussed and interpreted as a knowledge that is acquired and shaped by
personal experiences and constant practice . Additionally, shared knowledge will be explored and
interpreted as a widely spread knowledge that has been discussed and revised by groups of people
with similar interest in a particular area of knowledge . Some people ... Show more content on

An example that clearly shows how shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge is the social
psychological study of conformity, Leon Festinger (1954) . Leon stated that humans, through the use
of social comparison, judge their own feelings and ideas. To be more specific and simple, humans
observe what others do and act accordingly using any parts of ways of knowing. It is widely known
among the psychologists that according to social comparison theory, when a person finds out that
another person is not thinking and behaving the same way as you do, it causes anxiety; thus called
cognitive dissonance by Leon Festinger. For example, while all of your friends at school like a certain
sport and share a some knowledge in that sport, such as football or baseball, and you do not, you may
feel as if you are left out and somewhat odd. Due to reason and emotion, you may choose to perform
one of the two acts. The first act could be due to the reason of peer pressure or dislike of being left
alone; you may conform and play the same sport as your other friends do. Thus, the shared knowledge

Perceval Vs Inferno
Two epic poems, The Inferno and Perceval (The Story of the Grail), have impacted the world of
writing in various ways. The poets, Dante and Chrétien de Troyes, used many unique techniques to
make their pieces more interesting. Their two poems contained obvious similarities and differences,
and have often been compared to each other over the years. Although it was harder to understand, The
Inferno is a much better epic than Perceval because the epic hero, quest, style, and overall story is
much more entertaining.
The Inferno and Perceval contain epic heroes, both of which have similarities and differences to each
other. First of all, these two epic heroes leave home. In the Inferno, Dante is taken from his home, and

In Inferno, Dante had a wise guide, Virgil, to help him through his journey. Similarly, Perceval had a
guide, too, named Gornemant. Gornemant is the man in the story who advises Perceval not to ask too
many questions. To add on, both heroes encountered important events while on their quests. In
Inferno, Dante encounters a lion, which symbolizes violence and ambition. I shook with dread/ at the
sight of a great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger, its enormous head/ held high as if to
strike a mortal terror into the very air. (Inf. I. 43 46). This is important, because it symbolizes one of
the different types of sin. Furthermore, Perceval also has an important moment. This sword, dear
brother,/ was destined for you and none other./ I wish it to be yours henceforth. (Per. 192 194) In this
quote, Perceval s special sword is bestowed upon him. In contrast, Dante takes a journey to the
underworld. While Dante is taking a journey through hell, Perceval is just taking a journey back home.
Lastly, at the end of Dante s journey, he is rewarded. He gets forgiveness of his sins, which was is goal
in the first place. In Perceval, though, he never reaches home, so he does not reach his goal and never

  • 2. Investigating Crime and Relevant Issues Essay Investigating Crime and Relevant Issues Crime is defined as an act which is prohibited by criminal law. These criminal activities are prohibited for the protection of society as a whole, or a section of society. Each country has its own series of prohibited criminal acts. In England, if a criminal act is committed, the persons responsible are issued punishment of a fine, community service or imprisonment. Although criminal activity is seen by society to be morally wrong, and is punishable, people still continue to commit crime. Forensic psychology attempts to apply psychological principles to the criminal justice system. For many years psychologists have tried to explain why some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals that had these features were considered to be a more primitive type of human being. Lombroso determined, Some people are born with a strong, innate predisposition to behave antisocially, (L Uomo Delinquente, Lombroso, 1876). Evaluation of Lombroso s Theory Lombroso made a major contribution to establishing the study of criminal behaviour and was responsible for moving the study of criminology towards scientific research, indicating that biological influences could affect criminality. However Lombroso s experiments cannot be considered to be valid because he never compared his criminal sample to a non criminal control group or took account of racial and ethical differences. He recorded inaccurate measurements, which were not based on proper statistical techniques or an accurate understanding of human physique. Also a large proportion of Lombroso s sample had psychological disorders. This would mean that there was no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Realism In International Relations Realism is not a new concept. Classical Realism has its roots firmly placed in ancient Greece at the time of Thucydides where in the History of the Poloponneasean War he wrote The strong do what they have the power to do, the weak accept what they have to accept (Thucydides 1972: 402). Thucydides is thought to explain the role of power within politics at this early stage (Donelly, 2000) through to the time of Machiavelli in the 16th Century. Stanley Hoffman is quoted as saying that the theory is ...probably the most distinguished school of thought in the history of international relations (Hoffman, 1988 p.6). Whilst Realism, as a concept, has helped to define International Relations by fostering the notion that power is the only political gain to be wanted, Robert Gilpin sees it as a ... philosophical disposition and set of assumptions about the world rather than as in any strict sense a scientific theory (Gilpin, 1984 p. 290). Realists are unified in believing that Power and survival is fundamentally the most desired thing between the universal actors: The States. The theory is built on a basis of pessimism and that that politics is a tussle for both power and survival and labels politics on an international scale as a series of recurrent conflicts among states with very little prospect for change (Jackson and Sorensen, 2007). Whilst there are similarities which bind the different veins of realism together, this essay will look at those different veins within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Review of the 2005 Film version of Pride and Prejudice Essay For any great reader, it is known that the book is always better than the movie. Try as they may, moviemakers can never fully capture the author s magic from the original text. I am happy to say that this is not the case in the 2005 movie version of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen was a fabulous writer and her novels have captured the attention of booklovers for centuries. The screenwriter, Deborah Moggach, takes Austen s slightly rambling story and polishes it up and makes it easy for modern day people to understand. In the days when fathers were forbidden, by law, to leave property to their daughters, two sisters, Elizabeth and Jane Bennet are being pressured to marry rich gentlemen. It is luck then, which brings two such young men, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through a series of misunderstandings, Jane and Charles are separated at the great dismay of the whole family. The main focus however, is Elizabeth and whom she chooses to marry. Many undercurrents and sub plots occur in the story. And with a house full of girls, how could it be different? The costume and set designs in the movie are astoundingly realistic. Instead of looking like costumes and sets, the clothing looks like things a person would have worn or lived in during that period of time. While other versions of this same novel have elaborate costumes and fancy clothes, the costumes in the 2005 version are much simpler, which makes it seem much more real. Most of the filming took place in locations which were around when the novel was written, which eliminates the modernism of the movie. Unspoiled beauty was the order of the day in this version of Pride and Prejudice. Kiera Knightly, who played Elizabeth Bennet, could also be described as an unspoiled beauty. Her acting is superb without being overly perfect. Other wonderful actors include Mathew Macfayden, Rosamund Pike, and Simon Woods as Darcy, Jane and Bingly, respectively. Throughout the whole film, an impression of not trying too hard is given off, which keeps it fresh, and the acting is no different. The actors know who their roles are and played them as real people, not dramatic overdone characters. All in all, the plot, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx After reading the memoir titled The Heroin Diaries, in which the author, Nikki Sixx, presents a first hand account of his battles with heroin addiction over the course of one year, we must incorporate certain concepts in order to better understand his condition. In this essay I will explore concepts such as empathy, self responsibility and personal identity as identified in Identity and Agency: Conceptual Lessons for the Psychiatric Ethics of Patient Care as well as the concepts of detached and affective blame brought forth by Hannah Pickard in Responsibility Without Blame: Philosophical Reflections on Clinical Practice. Through exploration of these concepts I will show how they apply to Nikki Sixx and his seemingly endless battles with addiction. In his paper, Identity and Agency, Dr. Graham uses the hypothetical scenario of a girl named Theresa who suffers from a mental disorder in which she suffers with self responsibility and personal identity. In the scenario laid out in the paper, the reader is asked to assume the role of her psychiatrist and imagine ways in which she can be helped. One of the methods implied by Dr. Graham is empathy for the patient. Dr. Graham explains, Trying to recognize what is or may be intelligible in a patient s inner life is part of understanding their best interests as individuals and of recognizing how to help them. Cognition plays a dynamic role within linguistic expression Most of current discussion in layman s crowd is on a speaker s ability to impart influence on an audience. We study the power of language in propaganda. We look at the sway that specific words have on an individual s emotions. Linguistic scholars have looked into the opposite the influence of words on the speaker. Around the world there are almost 8000 languages spoken. Unsurprisingly, with this range come significant differences in what is spoken and understood in each language, from information conveyed by each word to what kind of informative words are even included in the language. So how does one s language influence one s thoughts? This question has been disputed since the Sapir Whorf hypothesis, also known as linguistic relativity hypothesis, implicated that a language s features determines its speaker s thoughts. (danza) the idea dated centuries back, but this was the first substantial hypothesis, formed during 1930 s based on the thoughts of two linguists Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf. Language seems to invade daily mental processes more so than previously expected. Because language pervades everything we do in labeling colors, counting numbers, adjectives, and verbs, simple tasks become hard to accomplish without using the language faculty. After the crash and serving some prison time, McLeod moved to an Island off the coast of Maine where he leads an isolated life as a painter. The community avoids McLeod because the physical scars make him ugly and even scary. Additionally, the town spreads many wrong rumors of him and call him names except for one boy, Chuck Nordstadt. He gravely needs McLeod s help to pass his admission exams to a military school. At the start of their encounters, McLeod avoids Chuck because he fears a repeat of the painful past that involved the death of his student. However, Chuck insistence and persistence to make McLeod his tutor softens McLeod s stance, and he embraces the idea of tutoring him. Soon, the private tutoring sessions become public when Chuck skips home one night and is found at McLeod s house the next morning. Later, McLeod is forced to leave the island to avoid trouble with this community who have always misunderstood him (Gibson, 1993). Below is an analysis of the film. The courts have the power of testing the validity of legislative as well as other governmental action with reference to the provisions of the constitution. Judicial Review in India The constitution of India, in this respect, is more similar to the U.S. Constitution than the British. Under the constitution of India parliament is not supreme. Its powers are limited in the two ways. First, there is the division of powers between the union and the states. Parliament is allowed to pass laws only with respect to those subjects which are guaranteed to the citizens against every form of legislative encroachment. The power of judicial review of legislation is given to the judiciary both by the political theory and text of the constitution. There are several specific provisions in the Indian constitution, judicial review of legislation such as Act 13, 32, 131 136, 143, 226, 145, 246, 251, 254 and 372. Judicial review is a great weapon given to the judges. It includes the power of a court to hold illegal and unenforceable any law or order based upon such law or some other activity by an open power which is conflicting or in clash with the fundamental law that must be adhered to. Truth be told, the investigation of constitutional law may be depicted as an investigation of the precept of judicial review in action. He needs to be tall and smart, replied the man. What the couple is doing is designing their future baby. It might sound crazy to be able to engineer one s children genetically, but technological advancements in the medical and scientific fields have allowed this as a possible option for potential parents. Genetic engineering is controlling and manipulating the genes of an organism. Genetic engineering is usually used to improve the organism s functions; these organisms are known as genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Genetic engineering is commonly used for the food industry. One benefit that results from genetically modified foods is the lowered prices for the products. However, there can be hazardous side effects such as the creation of new toxins (Goldbas, 2014, p. 22). Likewise, mutations in the DNA can occur from genetically engineering a baby. In spite of the threatening effects to the baby s health from genetic engineer, I believe giving people to the option to design their perfect babies allows for the genetic tree of infertile parents to continue; however, I believe the range of genes that future parents can select for their fetus has to be restricted to the genes the parents already carried in their DNA. Before the concept of designing one s perfect baby can be grasp, one must understand the events in science building up to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Composer Franz Schubert As A Master Composer Of Songs Viennese composer Franz Schubert is often regarded as a master composer of songs. He is also known for creative and unexpected movement between keys in his compositions. Dying at a tragically young age, Schubert managed to release an enormous body of works, publishing over two hundred songs while alive. Despite this already impressive output of songs, nothing stopped Schubert from composing symphonies, chamber music, and solo works as well. Close analysis of his music reveals how skillfully Schubert was able to set text, move fluidly to foreign keys, and much more. In this paper, Schubert s vocal piece entitled Erlkönig and his work for solo piano, Moments Musicaux 5 in F minor, will be explored more deeply The text in Erlkönig begins and ends with a nameless narrator. He opens, setting the scene, a father rides with his sick child in the night, racing to a nearby farmhouse to get help for his son. Schubert s repeated octave staccato triplets suggest the hoofbeats of the important fifth character, the horse, the vehicle of hope and deliverance; the four minutes of his song convey the urgency of a ride against an indistinct but baleful force (Bamforth). During the ride, the son recounts his hallucination of the Erlking, the king of the elves, chasing them to his father. The boy says the Erlking is promising the boy him, games, even his daughters, but his father tries to calm him, sying these are only wind rustling in the leaves and silhouettes of willow trees. In addition, almonds are tremendously profitable, generating approximately $11 billion to the state s economy in 2014 alone (Philpott, T., Lurie J., 3). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a youtube video from Tandrea, Tree T Pee is proven to save water from 10,000 gallons annually per tree to only using 800 gallons annually per tree. Also, it saves 300% 600% fuel costs, fertilizers, and herbicides and help grows young trees faster. The secret of this containment system is forcing the water to focus around a 24 inch diameter and keep the soil moist rather than sprinkling water in a 10 foot diameter, wasting most of the water (Tandrea, December 2014). Hence, from my calculation, instead of consuming 1.07 trillion gallons of water annually in California for almond, farmers could only use 85.6 billion gallons of water annually in California and also have the benefit of saving fuel costs, fertilizers, and herbicides. Moreover, engagement of stakeholders is needed to make this solution go smoothly and achieve success of preventing the drought issue in California to continue. The master plan is to have all farmers in California to use Tree T Pee to all of their plantations to reduce water usage and alleviate the issue of drought. In order for this plan to be a reality, several stakeholders need to work together and engage with each other, which include the government, the farmers, and the environmentalist. When I look back to my days growing up in Pakistan, I cannot recall many times I saw my Dad in the kitchen, in fact, I do not have a single memory of him cooking for us. Similarities Between Mary Shelley And Mary Wollstonecraft The differences and similarities in the life of Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft in their roles as feminist According to Greenblatt, in early English history, women were restricted in doing so many things that men were free to do. Women were provided with limited education and provided with a rigid code of sexual behavior especially after marriage. During this period, (the Romantic period) women were strictly distinguished from their male counterparts and were given strict roles such as child bearing, household keeping and nothing more (9). According to Cervo (1988), Mary Wollstonecraft and her daughter Shelly were two very existential women because they existed as women and were surrounded by weak and/or dishonest men who were unsure of themselves and the meaning and role of their sexuality in the real world (17). It is quiet surprising that Mary Shelley, daughter of a renowned feminist Mary Wollstonecraft would write her novel from the perspective of three men with very small attention to the female character (Davis, 1992). In the course of this essay, I would talk about the similarities between Mary Shelley and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft and differences that existed between them in their roles as far as women rights were concerned. • 20. The Adult Human Brain Retains a Large Amount of Plasticity It is now widely recognised that the adult human brain retains a larger degree of plasticity than was previously thought. This is perhaps particularly true of the neural mechanisms underlying sensory perception, where substantial behavioural and neural changes have been demonstrated in a wide variety of sensory functions following experience. Sensory plasticity has been recognised for its rehabilitative potential, for instance through perceptual training regimes, which have been used to improve visual function in adults with amblyopia, a developmental disorder of vision, and those with central vision loss. Now a new study provides evidence for visual plasticity in adults with long standing central vision loss who did not undergo any specific training (Chung, 2013a). Central vision loss, primarily brought about by age related macular degeneration, is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the developed world (Bunce and Wormald, 2006). The vast majority of individuals with central vision loss develop a preferred retinal locus (PRL), a specific region of the peripheral visual field that they use to perform everyday tasks such as reading. However, peripheral vision is limited in a number of ways in comparison to foveal vision. For example, in people with normal vision, reading speed, contrast sensitivity and visual acuity are worse in the periphery compared to the fovea. Additionally, peripheral vision is limited by visual crowding, which describes the increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Pros And Disadvantages Of Automation Automation is a beautiful endeavor. Much like the tools of the past, automation makes our lives as people easier. Today s technologies allow for more work to be done in less time, for less money, and with less human effort. Jobs that are in the inconvenient middle of being too repetitive to be interesting, but too complex for conventional computers to handle can now be automated seamlessly seamlessly in ways that are more efficient and safe than in ways humans can manage. A potent example would be cooking. Cooking is an occupation that requires precise measurements of both time and material. If you cook something for too long of a time, it burns up or is overcooked. If you cook something for too short of a time, it becomes undercooked. This may be a problem for humans, but this is far from one for computers. The only input a computer needs is the perfect example to do the task perfectly. The many benefits of switching to automated operation makes it tempting for business owners to switch to it. However, a problem arises when one too many business owners decide to automate everything. The root of this problem stems from the nature of the free market. Money circulates around the country from buyer to seller, or in our case, from employer to employee. The employer fulfills the want or need of a client that they cater to. To better serve these clients, they hire employees to either do more of the work, or research how to do the work better. In return, the employees are given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In recent times, the introduction and spread of invasive species has transformed native communities rapidly and, in some cases, created irreversible damages. In the Earth s history, changes have often occurred in the ecosystems. For example, glaciers and the retreat of glaciers cause wide spread changes. However, although change is a constant in ecosystems, animals and habitats often cannot adapt to the rapid alterations of non natural stresses. Harm to the environment from the introduction of invasive species occurs through changes in the habitat and declines in the native species. Invasive species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Van Driesche, nonnative species are more likely to establish if they invade habitats with lowered biotic resistance, encounter prey with poorly developed mechanisms of self defense, or invade habitats unaccompanied by their specialized natural enemies or when their invasion is facilitated by earlier invaders (2000). Damage to these communities, then, can be seen both in cumulative effects and in a cycle of self reinforcement. Although pristine environments are still at risk from invasion, this positive feedback loop makes habitats already with a disturbance by exotics even more vulnerable to other invasions. With the increasing amount of disturbed habitats, invasive species could soon become the leading cause of ecological degradation (Soulé Orians, 2001). Invasive species can alter habitats in a number of ways. Changes in the physical structure of the land are the most visually obvious. Examples include narrowing stream channels, reducing sand supply to dunes, and stabilizing surfaces such as mudflats, and each invasive species goes about these changes in their own way. For instance, the burrowing activities of Australian isopods cause the banks of tidal channels to collapse, leading to the widening of channels and the loss of vegetated salt marsh (Cox, 1999). On the other hand, Japanese mussels that have invaded the San Diego area are stabilizing mudflats. Although reaching Southern California in the 1960s, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Character is what you are in the dark. But if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern Society The Prevalence of the Anti Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype has prevailed throughout literature and media for thousands of years. This quixotic character completes a quest or expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the untoward anti hero archetype. Today, the anti hero is largely represented and featured in recent film and society. The hero archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing demand of the anti hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti hero archetype. A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The anti hero archetype is completely opposite of the hero archetype. Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti hero usually has a flawed moral character (Michael). Modern anti heroes lack in grace, power, and social success (Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in order to reach something. They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonist to justice . Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti hero victory. Anti heroes also do not let their inner thoughts influence their actions while original or traditional heroes seek self definition (Teleky). Across the world, whether it be in a first or a third world country, there are populations which tend to be segregated into communities and form part of the low socioeconomic status. Drawing from different locations as examples, I will firstly discuss how slums are established and the many complex economic, social and political issues which keep the slum alive in this modern age. There is also the matter of highlighting the way in which we define a slum and the people living within it and how this may affect slum growth. Lastly, I will make an allusion to measures that try and stop the advance of slums and their effectiveness. The origins and development of a slum are varied and complex. As there are a myriad of possible scenarios and variations, to avoid over complexity, there are a few key political, economic and social factors that are a running theme within the majority of slums. Most of these aspects transpire concurrently and are inextricably linked. One of the main causes of a slum s creation is due to rapid urbanisation in a city that is unable to keep up with the growing demands. This can create a multiple set of attributes for each object such that the data base is more flexible to the requirements that may be housed for different sets of data having both similar and dissimilar characteristics. The paradigms then are developed for each set of common characteristics and unique characteristics of the objects which is not possible in a relational database that has a very rigid structure. (Bruegge, 2004) Earlier the heterogeneous systems integration is a major issue. Therefore it has to be considered if the system proposed is amenable to multiple platforms and will give the same results. There are many applications available to enforce this, but it is to be borne in mind that in a data management system many components have to be integrated with the system and the layering of these components becomes critical. (Thuraisingham, 2001) But the requirements today have gone beyond the traditional DBMS and the system is expected too seamlessly perform varied functions like tracking functions, data analysis and reporting, vendor ...
