Econometrics Solutions Project Econ2206
ECON2206/ECON3290: Introductory Econometrics Session 1, 2009 Course Project Solution Guide
Each question is worth 1 mark and there are 20 questions in total. Answers should be clear and legible.
Note Instruction (d) on the Questions: when performing statistical tests, to always state the null and
alternative hypotheses, the test statistic and it s distribution under the null hypothesis, the level of
significance and the conclusion of the test. Marks are not awarded when this instruction is not
followed. Questions The Project involves the application of a range of econometric methods to
analyse the impact of women s tobacco consumption during pregnancy on infant birthweight. The data

Predicted birth = 3467.4 − 16.657 × 20 = 3467.4 − 333.14 = 3134.26 grams. The difference weight
when cigs = 20 is bwght in predicted birthweight due to smoking an extra packet of cigarettes per day
during pregnancy is 333.14 grams (approx. one third of a kilogram). To help gauge whether this
difference is practically large or small, this amount corresponds to 333.14 = 0.0965 (or 9.65%) of
average child birthweight in the sample. The 3450.7 magnitude of this is effect is practically large. (6)
Does cigs explain most of the variation in bwght ? Does the model in (1) provide a good explanation
of child birth weight ? Explain your reasoning. The R2 for the model is only 0.0167 so less than 2% of
the variation in bwght in the sample is explained by the model. Equivalently, over 98% of the
variation in bwght remains unexplained. As an explanation of the determinants of child birth weight,
this is not a good model. (7) Does the simple regression capture a causal relationship between the
child s birth weight and the mother s smoking habits ? Explain. For the regression model to capture a
causal relationship between mother s cigarette consumption and child birth weight, the critical
condition that must be satisfied is the Zero Conditional Mean (ZCM) assumption: E[u|cigs] = 0.
Factors not controlled for in the regression are in the error term, and these must be independent of cigs
for the regression coefficient β 1 to

Analysis Of Didion s On Self Respect
In Didion s emotional yet dominant essay, On Self Respect, found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem,
she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and
humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in
1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual
Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human
Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self
actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today s society, many people find themselves
unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self respect that we all accept, one
placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the
essay marks a point in Didion s life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle
with acceptance of self respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held
full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current
achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing
Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her
shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter
with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own
level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses
inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience.
This allows for construction of Didion s character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard
individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion s use of ethos allows her to present

ANALYSIS THE FOUR IDOLS
Francis Bacon s in his essay named as The Four Idols is derived from the historical expression Novum
Organum (1620). In the essay, he attempts to investigate the perception of an individual of reality
based on their reasoning fallacies by extensive examples and thorough analysis. Francis Bacon has
been credited through creating the scientific techniques, illustrations of this are apparent the presented
literature. Bacon in his essay notes the four idols of cave, tribe, theater and marketplace are
accountable for hindering the understanding of individuals of the world that surrounds them. The four

Bacon (544) notes that for every person (notwithstanding the errors which are common to the human
nature) has a den or a cave of their own, which discolors and refracts the light of the nature. Every
person has their own preferences and tastes, and this can easily refract their facts perception.
Moreover, Bacon (549) writes men usually become attached to specific speculations and particular
sciences. In his later years, Einstein worked is searching a correlation amid electromagnetism and
gravity whilst ignoring the quantum mechanics due to the verity that it was not fitting into his nature
perception. Presently, the theories of quantum mechanical theories are in essence unquestionable. This
Provides a very good illustration of viewing the globe how one would prefer it rather than how it
actually operates. The shortcomings of a person ought to be taken into consideration when observing
nature and society.
The Market place idol is illustrated as a logical hindrance that is based on language, especially word.
Bacon describes the hindrances (545) to be established through the association of men with one
another ad the unfit and ill words choice to a greater extent acts as an obstruction to understanding.
This clearly indicates that the general populace can be misleading easily through the simple word
choice that one uses in describing a specific topic. This is vital since as is seen the

Second Wave Feminism In The 1980 s
Our visual narrative on women of the 1980 s focused on fitness and women s increased interest in
exercise and the sexual female body. Using images from the popular women s magazine Cosmopolitan
in 1985, the visual narrative attempts to demonstrate the various aspects of the 1980 s fitness craze
and emphasis on the strong, healthy, sexual female body, or the better body, as often noted by many
Cosmopolitan articles. Seeking to provide context for the fitness craze and images shown throughout
women s magazines of the 1980 s, this narrative references the second wave feminist movement of the
1960 s and 1970 s in the United States for an explanation. Summarizing second wave feminism in its
early years, author J. Zeitz describes the movement: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Statements like better yourself and you ll soon learn to love your mirror presented next to strong,
smiling women implies a healthy, energetic, and attractive life as consequential to having a better
body and exercising (Cosmopolitan). This supports the cultural ideas that arose in the 1980 s due to
the women s movement in the 1960 s and 1970 s, which include notions like it is no longer considered
socially shocking or selfish for girls and women to work for their own independence and satisfaction
rather than for that of their male partners; or for females to kick ass just as much as males (Bowden).
These new thoughts on women are significant because prior to the movement, it was a widely held
belief that men naturally possess a stronger sex drive than women (or women s sexuality is more
repressed than men s), making coercive sexual activity normal ; and sexuality is focused around
penetration and male pleasure (anything else is foreplay ) (Bowden). This belief was supported in part
due to nineteenth century doctor William Acton s sexual advice book Functions and Disorders of the
Reproductive Organs, which summed up the medical literature on women s sexuality by saying that
the majority of women (happily for them) are not very much troubled with sexual feelings of any kind.

cells for Morristown Medical Center (MMC) located in Morristown, NJ. The Dispatcher selected the
units but did not verify the CMV status of the tag against the CMV status on the ABO/Rh label. The
units were brought to the Technical Services Laboratory for sickle cell testing. After testing was
completed, the products were returned to the Dispatch area. An electronic shipment was created in the
blood establishment computer system (BECS), and a packing slip was printed. The Dispatcher

Healthy Eating Persuasive Speech
I adore Gwyneth Paltrow. But much like my love of blue cheese and the Macarena, it s a devotion my
friends don t necessarily understand. Gwyneth Paltrow isn t that the one who tells people to sustain
themselves on algae and sprouts and to clean their vaginas with steam? they often ask.
Sure, Gwyneth Paltrow is one of these celebrities with a bag full of life improving advice. In general, I
hate people who try to tell me that my lifestyle isn t good enough. I, more or less, eat vegetarian plus I
did two sit ups last week. I m living my life the best I can. To me, keeping up with the newest trends in
healthy eating is just as stressful and superficial as following the crazy antics of the Kardashians.
This time last year, agave syrup seemed to be the it thing for my health conscious friends; last month,
I baked a cake with it and was treated as if I was trying to slip them some crack. Apparently agave

shellfish, deep sea fish, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, corn, gluten, meat, and soy, a.k.a.
everything that makes life worth living.
Shocked at this puritanism, my jaw dropped, and I m pretty sure I spat out a few peppers and an entire

Traumatic Stress
Most people probably know by now that high levels of unmanaged stress can lead to very serious
physical symptoms and illnesses. But did you know that excessive stress can also cause damaging
changes in your behaviors too, such as stress eating or self harming? These are just two ways in which
people try to stop feeling overwhelmed as stress takes a toll on their lives. But there are many others.
Here are my five best tips to stop stress from ruining your life.
Tip #1 Take Small Steps
Question: How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time!
Just like the joke, if you are faced with an enormous task that seems just too hard to do, break it down
into little achievable steps and tackle them one at a time. It s easier to accomplish small goals and
doing so will give you a great sense of achievement. And as you finish each small step, you ... Show

What this means is that everyone always looks to be better off than you (in whatever way you re
thinking about) when see from your perspective, And falling short is one way to pile the stress on. So
to manage your stress levels in these situations, simply stop comparing yourself to everyone you meet.
That way you can never come off worse. And if you don t allow yourself to feel inferior to everyone
you meet, you will soon find your confidence starting to soar.
Tip #3 Get a Furry Friend
Stroking a furry animal has been shown to have such beneficial effects on your stress levels and heart
health that hospitals allow them in to help patients manage their stress, And research has shown that
during a play session with a dog, the owner s and dog s serotonin levels rose and stress levels fell
significantly. Pets can give your mood a much needed lift but if you are allergic to fur, don t worry.
Any pet, even a goldfish can be a great boost after a hard day. Just make sure you repay your pet s
loyalty by looking after it properly.

Greenhouse Gases In Australia
Australia s annual greenhouse gas emissions have historically been steadily increasing. However, in
recent years this trend has stopped the emissions rate has steadied. The Australian nation has been
emitting in the range of 250,000 to 450,000 thousand metric tons greenhouse gases per year from
1990 to 2010. Data from 2008 to 2012 show the carbon dioxide emissions as a fraction of the total
greenhouse gas. This goes beyond the limit agreed in the Kyoto Protocol, and hence appropriate
measures need to be taken. Several possible solutions present itself in this scenario:
Carbon Taxes
Buy the necessary amount of carbon credits
Make mining process more efficient
Reduce coal mining overall
Alternative sources
Carbon tax is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The objective to this strategy is to boost industrial and commercial processes without having to be
concerned by the emissions of any greenhouse gas.
Another form of carbon credit trading applies to companies. If a company is having difficulties in
sticking to maximum allowable emissions amount, it can use its resources to invest in an emission
reduction project. This project will be one that produces carbon offsets, which he company may use to
cover the amount that was they could previously not. Efficiency at a power plant is determined by
energy conversion rate. This is rate is measured by the input energy source, in this case coal, in
proportion to the output, which is the power generated. The less fuel that is required for power
generation, the more efficient it is. Efficiency is very sensitive in relation to the amount of carbon
dioxide emitted. A single percentage increase in the efficiency of a coal fired power plant yields a 2
3% reduction in the carbon dioxide levels emitted by this plant. The power stations on the upper side
on the scale of efficiency may emit up to 40% less carbon dioxide than the average power stations
currently installed. The efficiency of power plant improvements include the most cost effective and
shortest lead time actions for reducing emissions from coal fired electricity. This is especially true in
developing and lower economy countries

David Lurie As A Byronic Hero
...we are not asked to condemn this being with the mad heart, this being with whom there is something
constitutionally wrong. On the contrary, we are invited to understand and sympathize. But there is a
limit to sympathy. For though he lives among us, he not one of us (Coetzee, 2000: 33). The afore
stated quote from the novel Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee, is used when discussing a poem by Lord Byron
Lara in the novel. Yet it is directly applicable to the protagonist, David Lurie. Coetzee appeals to the
readers to not criticise Lurie too harshly for his actions and to find it in their heart to sympathise with
him. Lurie can therefore be viewed as a Byronic hero. In the following essay David Lurie will be
discussed as a Byronic hero as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of his bad choices, made even worse by his refusal to admit guilt, he leaves his urban
existence for the rustic countryside. Once there he takes up residence with his daughter Lucy and even
gets a job as an assistant to euthanize dogs at the local animal shelter. The feature of the Byronic hero
that is the capability of deep and strong affection (Beatty, 2008) is seen in Lurie in his dealings with
Lucy. Nevertheless the single most important aspect that makes David a Byronic hero is the fact that
there are so many similarities between the life of Lurie and Lord Byron himself. Lurie says: I was not
myself. I was no longer a fifty year old divorcé at a loose end. I became a servant of Eros (Coetzee,
2000:52). Byron s personality and actions could be seen as driven by Eros, so Lurie says he is driven
by impulse, as already mentioned in this essay.
Lastly one can surely conclude that David Lurie shows all signs of being a Byronic hero, most
definitely a reflection of Lord Byron himself. Lord Byron once wrote; What is the worst of woes that
wait on age? What stamps the wrinkle deeper on the brow? To view each loved one blotted from life s
page, and be alone on earth, as I am now. Similarly Lurie comes to the realisation that he is now old
and should resign himself to a quiet life without a string of young woman to

Similarities Between Canada And Canada
When it comes to certain qualities and attributes of the United States of America and Canada, many
people residing elsewhere fail to tell the difference. The accents of people from certain parts of both
countries, for instance, are so incredibly indistinguishable that they baffle any and everyone. Besides
this one factor, they even share some comparable cultural characteristics, such as driving on the right
side of the road and cherishing the same basic human rights to the utmost importance. Likewise, there
are several similarities between multiple aspects of the countries respective governments, including
within their individual established frameworks, political systems, and their divisions of authorities and
duties. These could potentially point out a reason as to why Canada and the United States are
immensely successful in their particular objectives, and are on their paths to achieving their long term
goals with difficult to accomplish, yet beneficial visions. After all, they are both either on the way to
becoming or currently are two of world s leading superpowers (Financial Post). However, there is not
just one particular infallible way to rule a country and push it to further advancement simultaneously.
In fact, each country works and functions differently, which is primarily due to individual background
and history. Ultimately, although Canada and the United States of America are both nations that share
similarities in various parts of their Constitutions, political

Literary Techniques Used in The Storm by Kate Chopin
This short story was really straight forward until it got to the end, where it had a twist, which made me
pick the story to write on. Kate Chopin did an outstanding job using symbolism, but this novel is not
for all ages, if you know what I mean. How the setting, tone and theme all tie all together is what
makes the story different from the others.
Is the storm literal or symbolic? This particular question really stood out and really made me think and
analysis the story. For example, the question asks about the storm if it is literal or symbolic. The storm
is a super obvious symbol. It s involved in practically every element of the story. First off, it s the title.
Second, it plays a huge role in the plot, forming the beginning and the end of the story. It also plays a
really important part in the middle by bringing Calixta and Alcee together, pushing them into each
other s arms and giving them the time and space to get physical before the world outside returns to
normal. Also, the storm is a frightening occurrence in the natural world. Alcee describes it as a
cyclone (Chopin 2.13), while Bobinot can tell right away that its sombre, sinister, and threatening
(Chopin 1.1). Chopin describes the rain pouring down with a repetition and regularity that suggests
rain itself. Of course, it s when all that rain is coming down most passionately and brutally that Calixta
and Alcee are also getting more and more passionate; exploring their feelings for one another to the

Visual Effect On Visual Effects
Visual effects started out as visual experimental techniques in the very early stages of film starting
with filmmakers like George mielies. As technology has progressed so have the ability of visual
effects in film. Visual effect techniques has influenced and help innovate film in many different ways
in the 21st century.
Firstly, one should differentiate between special effects and visual effects. Special effects are generally
carried out on set during production whilst and visual effects are usually done in post production, but
this does not mean that special effects is not involved in the post proudction process and the visual
effects are not involved in on set during production (http://filmescape.com/whats the difference
between special effects visual effects).
Special effects can be seen in terms of two categories: optical and mechanical effects. Optical effects
have to do with the camera and the manipulation of the camera as well as the lighting to make the
scene look different (http://filmescape.com/whats the difference between special effects visual
effects). This process could involving changing the cameras lenses, the type of lighting used in the
scene or how the camera moves to create a specific look to the shot (http://filmescape.com/whats the
difference between special effects visual effects).
Mechanical effects are usually done during live action shooting. This usually means making things
look like something they are not. This can involve changing the

Sears Case Study Solution
Sears is facing a huge problem when it comes to making profits anymore and they are continuing to
shut down stores. They have already shut down over 100 locations due to them not being as successful

debt. This company is not able to pull through and make profits anymore because their CEO is not
capable of making changes to the company to bring it out of it. He sees that the company is not as
presentable as it used to be and it does not have the same appeal. People are not going to want to go to

As we can see Sears owns different companies/products within its business. Another strength is that
this company has many employees because it has so many different locations around the U.S. By
having lots of locations you are going to have many employees, which is great. In one article I read I
was able to see some of the weaknesses. As stated, Sears Holdings spent $5.8 billion buying back
shares from 2005 to 2010, draining the company s capital. Now, it has a major cash flow problem
(Rittenhouse, 2017). This shows that this company has to buy back it shares because if it does not they
will lose more money than they are even producing. Another weakness that I read was, From allegedly
rude employees to poor customer service, even loyal customers have lost trust in the company
(Rittenhouse, 2017). As we can see they have poor employees and service, which takes away from the
business because people rather not go to a place like that. This becomes a major threat because when
you have other stores like Amazon, Wal Mart, Costco, where there are all the same products sold and
maybe even at better prices, people are going to want to go to there. These other major stores
definitely attract people because they have low prices and keep up with people s demands. Wal Mart is
even known to match competitors prices and Amazon usually always offers free shipping and low
prices. When you see other stores that do better you go to them. You choose places where you are

What Does Luck Or Opportunity Mean
Luck or Opportunity, what does this term really mean? It s quite a tough phrase to define, so i ll take

velocity. During this process of trial and error, I have organized my results by marking them down on
multiple data table. I got my information from a bottle rocket simulator programmed by the National

0.03, and had the cone of the bottle rocket on. I picked the variable of the cone on/off, percentage

the runs where I was testing these variables, the altitude and velocity had significant changes every
time. There were some variables such as ballast weight and temperature at launch that didn t have as
drastic changes with each run so they were not as important. One thing that noticed is that the velocity
was consistently higher than the altitude so when testing it, I was more focused on raising the altitude.
When I was focused on the altitude, I never noticed a significant drop in velocity so I don t think there
were any trade offs with the results from this

Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is one of the greatest novels ever written. It is best remembered
and spoken about for it s color symbolism. The main reason to why color symbolism is a studied topic
in this novel is because the writer was also a painter. F.Scott Fitzgerald uses the colors gray, blue and
yellow to symbolize hopelessness, loneliness, and new money throughout the novel. Fitzgerald uses
the color gray to give the reader a darkened negative visual of what was occurring in the novel.

temperatures worldwide. Although there are no definite times for the start and end of the Little Ice
Age, it is generally accepted that it occurred from approximately 1300 CE to 1850 CE. The coldest
stage of this time lasted from around 1645 to 1715. Also, the expansion of mountain glaciers in several
locations was a distinctive feature of the Little Ice Age. The event had various effects and its origins
are disputable. Several causes of the Little Ice Age have been proposed. One of them describes a
decrease in sunspot activity, or times when dark spots form on the sun due to low temperatures. The
lack of sunspots during the LIA is known as the Maunder Minimum. Since it appeared to occur
concurrently with the coldest part of the ice age, from 1645 to 1715, it was considered a plausible
reason to explain the Little Ice Age. However, this theory has its flaws, because modeled simulations
point to the idea that temperatures would ve dropped to a maximum of 0.4ºC, when the world saw
actual decreases of 1 2ºC. Furthermore, the Little Ice Age started before the Maunder Minimum
happened, so additional information is needed to explain the original cause of the LIA.
Another idea for the catalyst of the Little Ice Age involves the North Atlantic Oscillation
(NAO), a circulation of atmospheric pressure in North America and northern Europe. Typical, or
positive NAO is shown when a

Socrates, Hobbes, And Locke s Analysis
aspires to do something in order to experience pleasure, enjoyment, and comfort. Hedonic motives
range from physical pleasures, comforts, and enjoyment of social interaction or art. Well known
philosophers like Aristippus, Bentham Epicurus, Hobbes, and Locke agreed that the main purpose in
our life is to experience pleasure and avoid pain (Weijers, 2012). Though they have differing
interpretations as to the context at hand, they are united in the contention that the highest good is
happiness. In contrast, Aristotle not only disagreed with the pleasure seeking philosophers but also
asserted that the motivation they espouse is an immoral way of living (Waterman, 1993).
Aristotle further argued that the highest intention in life is to live to

Primary Care Testing for Cancer Cell by Ion Exchange
For people with concerns about health issues, the physician s office is usually the first contact with
healthcare. Physician s waiting room is usually busy with patients of all ages with different symptoms
and reasons for being there. With a physician s competence and medical experience, they know what
can be easily cured, what should be followed up, and what needs to be referred to a specialist. The
accurate testing of clinical parameters is the key for making important medical decisions. The
dominant model of laboratory testing is centralized laboratory, which more of analytical processes are

Therefore, patients can receive treatment before cancer metastasizes to other areas of the body, which
is resulting in better health outcomes. The main challenge in circulating tumor cell (CTC) research is
their detection, which requires the ability to detect one CTC out of almost 1 billion normal blood cells
[2, 3]. Based on the known properties of tumor cells, several platforms for CTC detection have been
developed. Such platforms can be classified into two major categories: (I) Immunochemistry based
methods, and (II) physical property based methods. CELLSEARCHTM from Janssen Diagnostics is
considered the most successful and the only FDA approved platform for CTC detection in clinical
practice in patients with breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Limitation of this method is the low
yield of CTC capture from larger blood volume. Metastasis often involves epithelial to mesenchymal
transition (EMT) of cells; thus, epithelial marker dependent approaches may miss numerous CTCs
that have low or absent epithelial marker expression. Isolation by size of epithelial tumor cells (ISET)
[4] is another widely accepted size based approach. This platform applies a specific membrane filter
for tumor cell selection, because tumor cells are often larger and stiffer than blood cells. Main
advantage of using membrane filter is that cells can be retained for further investigation. Nonetheless,
the sizes of tumor cells may vary

Contemplative Practice In Judeo-Christianity
Contemplative practice, as described above, can be found in other traditions from the Hindu Yogic
tradition to Judaism to Christianity (Sharples, 2003). Mandalas (are) ancient objects of meditation for
Hindus and Tibetan Buddhists that were adapted for contemplation in medieval Christianity
(Broomfield, 1997, p. 81). In the Hindu Yogic tradition, heavy emphasis is placed on the concentrative
nature and importance of meditation to restore calm, well being and understanding (Gunaratana,
1991). He identified contemplative practices in Judeo Christianity, which focused thought on a
specific subject, religious concept or passage, to restore calm and well being; which correlates with
mindfulness. Having grown up in a Jewish household and having worked in a ... Show more content

Zajonc (2009) cited several examples of contemplative practice in the Christian tradition including
meditative reading, reflection, and a prayer to center the mind. He also highlighted the contemplative
silence of the Benedictine Order as part of their focused attention on sacred text (Zajonc, 2009).
Christ, as reported in the Bible, exhorted his followers that the kingdom of God is within which
suggests a contemplative practice (Sharples, 2003). It is also recorded that Christ spent forty days and
nights in the wilderness, possibly in contemplative thought, meditating. Many Christian traditions also
practice contemplation to develop positive qualities such as compassion and forgiveness through
reflection (Sharples, 2003). In summary, the literature highlighted above indicates that present
moment awareness and contemplative practice are evident in the philosophy and practice of many
religions. This contemplative practice was designed to ponder religious texts, discover new insights
and experience a sense of calm for individual practitioners. Next I review definitions of mindfulness
from other philosophical traditions, before considering the influence of western culture on

Emperor And Nationalist Ideology Essay
The Emperor and Nationalist Ideology in Meiji Era Japan
The Meiji Era in Japan is known as a time of rapid industrialization and Westernization where many
institutions of society were realigned in one form or another to be consistent with their Western
counterparts. Ironically, at the same time, it was a period of growing nationalistic feelings that began
to develop in Japanese society. However, besides being a reactionary or nostalgic feeling experienced
by the population, this nationalist ideology was also actively promoted by the Meiji leadership.
Central to this ideology was the emperor who was effectively and successfully used as a tool for
legitimizing the Meiji government.

The Elements Of Existentialism In Jean Sartre s No Exit
Jean Sartre uses elements of existentialism in No exit to function as a metaphor for the hellish impact
of war. Sartre employs imagery, allusion, and imprisonment in order to express the tragedies and
complexities of living under Nazi occupation. In No Exit, Jean Sartre uses imagery in order to
represent how the living room, or hell , was controlled by an external force , The Nazi party. In the
opening scene Garcin notes, Second Empire furniture, I observe. . . Well, well, I dare say one gets
used to it in time . The Second Empire was another occupation in France lead by Napoleon the Third
in which the working class was mobilized and living conditions became much tougher. The fact that
the room is furnished by a previous occupation shows how this Hell that they are in, is completely
controlled by an external force such as a regime. The room in which they stay signifies hell within the
book but externally is being likened to living under the Nazi occupation and how unconventionally
hell like it was. There were curfews, restrictions on food, music, dance, art but there were no
instruments of torture in the book or the occupation in France at the time either. This shows how they
were not being tortured in the conventional sense, but there was a strong presence of mental torture

hard to come by in one living room to the point where Inez states, Don t forget I m here,

Descriptive Essay About Times Square
When you mention New York to anyone, they automatically think about Times Square. This beautiful
place with skyscrapers, Central Park, and a unique transportation system. However, if you were to ask
me what I think about New York; I believe the skyscrapers block the sun, Central park is just a regular
park for dogs, and the subway trains rarely run consistently especially in the mornings. I have lived in
New York for 18 years, and I have yet to understand what everyone likes about the Big Red Apple.
Growing up as a resident of New York, one is taught that there s an opportunity in every corner, but
that s not exactly what I see. I have gone to all the tourist sights, and have yet to find it as fascinating
as other states such as: California, Florida, Virginia, Boston or even Washington D.C.. Times Square
was beautiful in the beginning, but then you get harassed by every person with a costume on, or even
if you take a picture with Elmo they charge you five dollars. Everything is also overpriced, no one
should be paying a hundred dollars to ride on a horse, or paying three dollars per minute on a bicycle
ride. Many neighborhoods have changed, if you go down to Brooklyn it is now hipster, and isn t the
way it was before which was considered the ghetto. Everyone is paying for an experience that can be
found in any state and at any time. Also, the traffic that goes on in the trains and on the streets is
insane. Whether you take the Long Island expressway, the Clearview expressway or any other
expressway you are going to find traffic.
New york is probably known as one of the most rat infested city. There are many programs that try to
end the rat dilemma, but the rat population is so large that it s hard to control. Not only are rats found
on the train, they are also found in neighborhoods such as the Bronx. Many people complain about the
rat situation to the city, but the homeowners take no action when it s time to clean up their own mess
(Bragdon et al., 2007 2009). Many of the rats that are seen all over the city are huge, and go crawling
around for any food that they can find, mainly in trash cans. Whitestone, Queens is the neighborhood
that I grew up in. Whitestone is a small community, predominantly

Forensic Anthropology Essay
The field of forensic anthropology centers on the analysis of human remains; a key component of such
an analysis is the knowledge of how much time has passed between the death of an individual and the
discovery of the associated remains. This period is termed the postmortem interval and is useful in
regards to providing an identification of remains, as awareness of the time of death can be
instrumental in determining the specifics of a crime. Determination or estimation of the postmortem
interval (PMI) is possible due to certain consistencies in the process of decomposition of organisms as
well as both biotic and abiotic factors associated with decaying remains. Over time, new methods have
been added to the repertoire of forensic anthropology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the cessation of cardiac and respiratory functions in humans, cell death commences leading
to the complete death of the individual. The chemical processes that result from the massive death of
cells, such as release of enzymes and digestive fluids, act to begin the decay of the cadaver. Of
important note, normal bacteria associated with the human digestive system are no longer held in
check by the human immune system and the physical separations between the digestive tract and the
other organs. Thus, bacterial action is a critical decay component, and the significance of such action
will be investigated shortly. In traditional forensic taphonomic nomenclature, the cadaver progresses
from the fresh stage upon death to the bloat stage at the beginning of microbial action (Finley et al.
2015). Upon the onset of insect activity, active decay begins until most consumable matter is removed,
leading to the advanced decay stage; dry decay follows when only bone and keratinous tissue remains
(Finley et al. 2015). Based upon environmental conditions such as temperature and moisture
availability, the time interval for each of these stages and thus the overall decay process from fleshed
body to skeleton may vary significantly. Thus, a standard taphonomic analysis of remains may not
provide a very accurate indication of PMI; however, other methods used in conjunction can greatly
increase accuracy in PMI

Difference Between Jane Eyre And Wide Sargasso Sea
Jean Rhys and Charlotte Bronte wrote their novels in distinctive time periods and originated from
diverse influences in writing. Jean Rhys novel, Wide Sargasso Sea is a fascinating connection to
Rochester s insane wife locked in a room. Rhys further represents Antoinette while, Charlotte Bronte
affirmed that it was left clarified (Thorpe 126) Antoinette, like Jane, evolves in a world with a
negligible measure of affection to offer. Both these characters are taken care of by relatives, both had a
lonely childhood, and both had lost their first companion. Jane is competent in refusing to herself, the
trademarks others put on her shape her character, while Antoinette is baffled by having a body, soul
and life. She is overlooked by everybody aside from Josephine and has little correspondence with
others. The characters bear a loss of personal identity, psychologically and physically. Jane s fixation
with Rochester, allows her feelings to oppress her. Jane understands her fixation as she expresses, My
future husband was becoming to me my whole world; and more than the world: almost my hope of
heaven. He stood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike to Antoinette, who felt disengagement since a young age met a male who encounters the same
isolation, and looks all starry eyed at him. This feeling spares her from depression and ruins her
confinement, she no more needs to alienate from Rochester and other people. The relations of Jane
and Rochester vary from the relations of Rochester and Antoinette; due to Bronte s portrayal both
characters demolish their aloneness and discover essential worth in one another, they are
indistinguishable from various perspectives and cannot live separated. As Jane states, I am not talking
to you now through the medium of custom, conventionalities or even of mortal flesh; it is my spirit
that addresses your spirit equal, as we are! (Bronte 3.8

Compare and Contrast Works of Art
Bright colors jumping at you asking for attention, images so real viewers can not tell the difference.
These are the thoughts that came to my head as I gazed at two works of art by two Mexican artists at
MoLAA museum of art . I visited two museums, Bowers Museum of cultural Art in the heart of
Southern California and the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach for my report
unfortunately I only liked the works in MoLAA and will talk about it through out my paper. I will talk
about two Mexican artists Rafael Cauduro and David Alfaro Siqueros that caught my eye, and made
me want to learn more of them and their approach to art. Siqueiros caught my eye and interest because

The piece I choose to critic is titled Buscado por su madre or Wanted by his Mother by Rafael
Cauduro, no year. This piece is an Oil on Canvas painting that measured 48 x36 located at the Long
Beaches MoLAA. The work is presented as one of a few Mexican artists that share an interest in their
painting primarily figurative style, political in nature, that often narrated the history of Mexico or the
indigenous culture. The painting is one of the first viewers see as they enter the Museum. It is at eye
level and demonstrates a superb use of illusionistic realism that it creates the illusion of being real.
The painting is of a old Missing poster of a man on a brick wall. What made it stand out in my eyes
was the fact that it looked to be a three dimensional object on what looked like real bricks with the
words wanted by mother on the top. Cauduro s piece, in my eyes looked like he literally took a chunk
out of a wall, and placed an old torn missing poster of a man on the front and put it out for display.
Cauduro uses texture to represent the look of brick by applying thick strokes of paint creating a body
of its own as and mimics the look and shape of brick. He also makes applies the same technique on the
wanted poster by implying that it is old and torn by again layering his paint to create the

The difference weight when cigs = 20 is bwght in predicted birthweight due to smoking an extra packet of cigarettes per day during pregnancy is 333.14 grams (approx. one third of a kilogram). To help gauge whether this difference is practically large or small, this amount corresponds to 333.14 = 0.0965 (or 9.65%) of average child birthweight in the sample. The 3450.7 magnitude of this is effect is practically large. (6) Does cigs explain most of the variation in bwght ? Does the model in (1) provide a good explanation of child birth weight ? Explain your reasoning. The R2 for the model is only 0.0167 so less than 2% of the variation in bwght in the sample is explained by the model. Equivalently, over 98% of the variation in bwght remains unexplained. As an explanation of the determinants of child birth weight, this is not a good model. (7) Does the simple regression capture a causal relationship between the child s birth weight and the mother s smoking habits ? Explain. For the regression model to capture a causal relationship between mother s cigarette consumption and child birth weight, the critical condition that must be satisfied is the Zero Conditional Mean (ZCM) assumption: E[u|cigs] = 0. Factors not controlled for in the regression are in the error term, and these must be independent of cigs for the regression coefficient β 1 to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Analysis Of Didion s On Self Respect In Didion s emotional yet dominant essay, On Self Respect, found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in 1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today s society, many people find themselves unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self respect that we all accept, one placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the essay marks a point in Didion s life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle with acceptance of self respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience. This allows for construction of Didion s character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion s use of ethos allows her to present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, Bacon (549) writes men usually become attached to specific speculations and particular sciences. In his later years, Einstein worked is searching a correlation amid electromagnetism and gravity whilst ignoring the quantum mechanics due to the verity that it was not fitting into his nature perception. Presently, the theories of quantum mechanical theories are in essence unquestionable. Using images from the popular women s magazine Cosmopolitan in 1985, the visual narrative attempts to demonstrate the various aspects of the 1980 s fitness craze and emphasis on the strong, healthy, sexual female body, or the better body, as often noted by many Cosmopolitan articles. Seeking to provide context for the fitness craze and images shown throughout women s magazines of the 1980 s, this narrative references the second wave feminist movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s in the United States for an explanation. These new thoughts on women are significant because prior to the movement, it was a widely held belief that men naturally possess a stronger sex drive than women (or women s sexuality is more repressed than men s), making coercive sexual activity normal ; and sexuality is focused around penetration and male pleasure (anything else is foreplay ) (Bowden). This belief was supported in part due to nineteenth century doctor William Acton s sexual advice book Functions and Disorders of the Reproductive Organs, which summed up the medical literature on women s sexuality by saying that the majority of women (happily for them) are not very much troubled with sexual feelings of any kind. The Australian nation has been emitting in the range of 250,000 to 450,000 thousand metric tons greenhouse gases per year from 1990 to 2010. Data from 2008 to 2012 show the carbon dioxide emissions as a fraction of the total greenhouse gas. If a company is having difficulties in sticking to maximum allowable emissions amount, it can use its resources to invest in an emission reduction project. This project will be one that produces carbon offsets, which he company may use to cover the amount that was they could previously not. Efficiency at a power plant is determined by energy conversion rate. This is rate is measured by the input energy source, in this case coal, in proportion to the output, which is the power generated. The less fuel that is required for power generation, the more efficient it is. Efficiency is very sensitive in relation to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted. A single percentage increase in the efficiency of a coal fired power plant yields a 2 3% reduction in the carbon dioxide levels emitted by this plant. The power stations on the upper side on the scale of efficiency may emit up to 40% less carbon dioxide than the average power stations currently installed. The efficiency of power plant improvements include the most cost effective and shortest lead time actions for reducing emissions from coal fired electricity. • 11. David Lurie As A Byronic Hero ...we are not asked to condemn this being with the mad heart, this being with whom there is something constitutionally wrong. On the contrary, we are invited to understand and sympathize. But there is a limit to sympathy. For though he lives among us, he not one of us (Coetzee, 2000: 33). The afore stated quote from the novel Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee, is used when discussing a poem by Lord Byron Lara in the novel. Yet it is directly applicable to the protagonist, David Lurie. Coetzee appeals to the readers to not criticise Lurie too harshly for his actions and to find it in their heart to sympathise with him. Lurie can therefore be viewed as a Byronic hero. As a result of his bad choices, made even worse by his refusal to admit guilt, he leaves his urban existence for the rustic countryside. Once there he takes up residence with his daughter Lucy and even gets a job as an assistant to euthanize dogs at the local animal shelter. The feature of the Byronic hero that is the capability of deep and strong affection (Beatty, 2008) is seen in Lurie in his dealings with Lucy. Nevertheless the single most important aspect that makes David a Byronic hero is the fact that there are so many similarities between the life of Lurie and Lord Byron himself. Lurie says: I was not myself. I was no longer a fifty year old divorcé at a loose end. I became a servant of Eros (Coetzee, 2000:52). Byron s personality and actions could be seen as driven by Eros, so Lurie says he is driven by impulse, as already mentioned in this essay. Lastly one can surely conclude that David Lurie shows all signs of being a Byronic hero, most definitely a reflection of Lord Byron himself. Lord Byron once wrote; What is the worst of woes that wait on age? What stamps the wrinkle deeper on the brow? To view each loved one blotted from life s page, and be alone on earth, as I am now. Similarities Between Canada And Canada When it comes to certain qualities and attributes of the United States of America and Canada, many people residing elsewhere fail to tell the difference. The accents of people from certain parts of both countries, for instance, are so incredibly indistinguishable that they baffle any and everyone. Besides this one factor, they even share some comparable cultural characteristics, such as driving on the right side of the road and cherishing the same basic human rights to the utmost importance. Likewise, there are several similarities between multiple aspects of the countries respective governments, including within their individual established frameworks, political systems, and their divisions of authorities and duties. These could potentially point out a reason as to why Canada and the United States are immensely successful in their particular objectives, and are on their paths to achieving their long term goals with difficult to accomplish, yet beneficial visions. After all, they are both either on the way to becoming or currently are two of world s leading superpowers (Financial Post). However, there is not just one particular infallible way to rule a country and push it to further advancement simultaneously. • 13. Literary Techniques Used in The Storm by Kate Chopin This short story was really straight forward until it got to the end, where it had a twist, which made me pick the story to write on. Kate Chopin did an outstanding job using symbolism, but this novel is not for all ages, if you know what I mean. How the setting, tone and theme all tie all together is what makes the story different from the others. Is the storm literal or symbolic? This particular question really stood out and really made me think and analysis the story. For example, the question asks about the storm if it is literal or symbolic. The storm is a super obvious symbol. It s involved in practically every element of the story. First off, it s the title. Second, it plays a huge role in the plot, forming the beginning and the end of the story. It also plays a really important part in the middle by bringing Calixta and Alcee together, pushing them into each other s arms and giving them the time and space to get physical before the world outside returns to normal. Also, the storm is a frightening occurrence in the natural world. Alcee describes it as a cyclone (Chopin 2.13), while Bobinot can tell right away that its sombre, sinister, and threatening (Chopin 1.1). Chopin describes the rain pouring down with a repetition and regularity that suggests rain itself. Of course, it s when all that rain is coming down most passionately and brutally that Calixta and Alcee are also getting more and more passionate; exploring their feelings for one another to the ... Now, it has a major cash flow problem (Rittenhouse, 2017). This shows that this company has to buy back it shares because if it does not they will lose more money than they are even producing. There were some variables such as ballast weight and temperature at launch that didn t have as drastic changes with each run so they were not as important. • 20. Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is one of the greatest novels ever written. It is best remembered and spoken about for it s color symbolism. The main reason to why color symbolism is a studied topic in this novel is because the writer was also a painter. F.Scott Fitzgerald uses the colors gray, blue and yellow to symbolize hopelessness, loneliness, and new money throughout the novel. Fitzgerald uses the color gray to give the reader a darkened negative visual of what was occurring in the novel. Occasionally a line of gray cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak, and comes to rest... . In this passage, the color gray in the novel leaves the reader with a dark and empty vibe and visual throughout the novel. Nick is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Cause And Effects Of The Mini Ice Age The mini ice age, or Little Ice Age (LIA), was a period of time characterized by a decrease in temperatures worldwide. Although there are no definite times for the start and end of the Little Ice Age, it is generally accepted that it occurred from approximately 1300 CE to 1850 CE. The coldest stage of this time lasted from around 1645 to 1715. Also, the expansion of mountain glaciers in several locations was a distinctive feature of the Little Ice Age. The event had various effects and its origins are disputable. Several causes of the Little Ice Age have been proposed. One of them describes a decrease in sunspot activity, or times when dark spots form on the sun due to low temperatures. The lack of sunspots during the LIA is known as the Maunder Minimum. Since it appeared to occur concurrently with the coldest part of the ice age, from 1645 to 1715, it was considered a plausible reason to explain the Little Ice Age. However, this theory has its flaws, because modeled simulations point to the idea that temperatures would ve dropped to a maximum of 0.4ºC, when the world saw actual decreases of 1 2ºC. Furthermore, the Little Ice Age started before the Maunder Minimum happened, so additional information is needed to explain the original cause of the LIA. Another idea for the catalyst of the Little Ice Age involves the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), a circulation of atmospheric pressure in North America and northern Europe. Typical, or positive NAO is shown when a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hedonic motives range from physical pleasures, comforts, and enjoyment of social interaction or art. Well known philosophers like Aristippus, Bentham Epicurus, Hobbes, and Locke agreed that the main purpose in our life is to experience pleasure and avoid pain (Weijers, 2012). Though they have differing interpretations as to the context at hand, they are united in the contention that the highest good is happiness. In contrast, Aristotle not only disagreed with the pleasure seeking philosophers but also asserted that the motivation they espouse is an immoral way of living (Waterman, 1993). The main challenge in circulating tumor cell (CTC) research is their detection, which requires the ability to detect one CTC out of almost 1 billion normal blood cells [2, 3]. Based on the known properties of tumor cells, several platforms for CTC detection have been developed. Such platforms can be classified into two major categories: (I) Immunochemistry based methods, and (II) physical property based methods. CELLSEARCHTM from Janssen Diagnostics is considered the most successful and the only FDA approved platform for CTC detection in clinical practice in patients with breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Limitation of this method is the low yield of CTC capture from larger blood volume. Metastasis often involves epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) of cells; thus, epithelial marker dependent approaches may miss numerous CTCs that have low or absent epithelial marker expression. Isolation by size of epithelial tumor cells (ISET) [4] is another widely accepted size based approach. This platform applies a specific membrane filter for tumor cell selection, because tumor cells are often larger and stiffer than blood cells. Main advantage of using membrane filter is that cells can be retained for further investigation. Nonetheless, the sizes of tumor cells may vary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Contemplative Practice In Judeo-Christianity Contemplative practice, as described above, can be found in other traditions from the Hindu Yogic tradition to Judaism to Christianity (Sharples, 2003). Mandalas (are) ancient objects of meditation for Hindus and Tibetan Buddhists that were adapted for contemplation in medieval Christianity (Broomfield, 1997, p. 81). In the Hindu Yogic tradition, heavy emphasis is placed on the concentrative nature and importance of meditation to restore calm, well being and understanding (Gunaratana, 1991). Zajonc (2009) cited several examples of contemplative practice in the Christian tradition including meditative reading, reflection, and a prayer to center the mind. He also highlighted the contemplative silence of the Benedictine Order as part of their focused attention on sacred text (Zajonc, 2009). Christ, as reported in the Bible, exhorted his followers that the kingdom of God is within which suggests a contemplative practice (Sharples, 2003). It is also recorded that Christ spent forty days and nights in the wilderness, possibly in contemplative thought, meditating. Many Christian traditions also practice contemplation to develop positive qualities such as compassion and forgiveness through reflection (Sharples, 2003). In summary, the literature highlighted above indicates that present moment awareness and contemplative practice are evident in the philosophy and practice of many religions. This contemplative practice was designed to ponder religious texts, discover new insights and experience a sense of calm for individual practitioners. Emperor And Nationalist Ideology Essay The Emperor and Nationalist Ideology in Meiji Era Japan The Meiji Era in Japan is known as a time of rapid industrialization and Westernization where many institutions of society were realigned in one form or another to be consistent with their Western counterparts. However, besides being a reactionary or nostalgic feeling experienced by the population, this nationalist ideology was also actively promoted by the Meiji leadership. Sartre employs imagery, allusion, and imprisonment in order to express the tragedies and complexities of living under Nazi occupation. In No Exit, Jean Sartre uses imagery in order to represent how the living room, or hell , was controlled by an external force , The Nazi party. The fact that the room is furnished by a previous occupation shows how this Hell that they are in, is completely controlled by an external force such as a regime. The room in which they stay signifies hell within the book but externally is being likened to living under the Nazi occupation and how unconventionally hell like it was. • 29. Descriptive Essay About Times Square When you mention New York to anyone, they automatically think about Times Square. This beautiful place with skyscrapers, Central Park, and a unique transportation system. However, if you were to ask me what I think about New York; I believe the skyscrapers block the sun, Central park is just a regular park for dogs, and the subway trains rarely run consistently especially in the mornings. I have lived in New York for 18 years, and I have yet to understand what everyone likes about the Big Red Apple. Growing up as a resident of New York, one is taught that there s an opportunity in every corner, but that s not exactly what I see. I have gone to all the tourist sights, and have yet to find it as fascinating as other states such as: California, Florida, Virginia, Boston or even Washington D.C.. Times Square was beautiful in the beginning, but then you get harassed by every person with a costume on, or even if you take a picture with Elmo they charge you five dollars. Everything is also overpriced, no one should be paying a hundred dollars to ride on a horse, or paying three dollars per minute on a bicycle ride. Many neighborhoods have changed, if you go down to Brooklyn it is now hipster, and isn t the way it was before which was considered the ghetto. Everyone is paying for an experience that can be found in any state and at any time. Also, the traffic that goes on in the trains and on the streets is insane. Whether you take the Long Island expressway, the Clearview expressway or any other expressway you are going to find traffic. New york is probably known as one of the most rat infested city. There are many programs that try to end the rat dilemma, but the rat population is so large that it s hard to control. Not only are rats found on the train, they are also found in neighborhoods such as the Bronx. Many people complain about the rat situation to the city, but the homeowners take no action when it s time to clean up their own mess (Bragdon et al., 2007 2009). Many of the rats that are seen all over the city are huge, and go crawling around for any food that they can find, mainly in trash cans. Whitestone, Queens is the neighborhood that I grew up in. • 30. Forensic Anthropology Essay The field of forensic anthropology centers on the analysis of human remains; a key component of such an analysis is the knowledge of how much time has passed between the death of an individual and the discovery of the associated remains. This period is termed the postmortem interval and is useful in regards to providing an identification of remains, as awareness of the time of death can be instrumental in determining the specifics of a crime. Determination or estimation of the postmortem interval (PMI) is possible due to certain consistencies in the process of decomposition of organisms as well as both biotic and abiotic factors associated with decaying remains. Following the cessation of cardiac and respiratory functions in humans, cell death commences leading to the complete death of the individual. The chemical processes that result from the massive death of cells, such as release of enzymes and digestive fluids, act to begin the decay of the cadaver. Of important note, normal bacteria associated with the human digestive system are no longer held in check by the human immune system and the physical separations between the digestive tract and the other organs. Thus, bacterial action is a critical decay component, and the significance of such action will be investigated shortly. In traditional forensic taphonomic nomenclature, the cadaver progresses from the fresh stage upon death to the bloat stage at the beginning of microbial action (Finley et al. 2015). Upon the onset of insect activity, active decay begins until most consumable matter is removed, leading to the advanced decay stage; dry decay follows when only bone and keratinous tissue remains (Finley et al. 2015). Based upon environmental conditions such as temperature and moisture availability, the time interval for each of these stages and thus the overall decay process from fleshed body to skeleton may vary significantly. Thus, a standard taphonomic analysis of remains may not provide a very accurate indication of PMI; however, other methods used in conjunction can greatly increase accuracy in PMI ...
