Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico baseball team went 1-3 this weekend in a four game-Lone Star Conference series
against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Hounds moved to 9-17 on the season and 2-10 in LSC play. In the first nine
inning contest of the week on Friday, ENMU lost by a score of 19-9. The doubleheader on Saturday also got
away from the Greyhounds, with Kingsville winning the first contest 19-3 and the second 6-0. The shutout was
only their third such game of the season. In the fourth and final matchup, the Greyhounds had a tremendous
late run to force extra innings, finally clinching the comeback in the bottom of the tenth inning, off a Keenan
Dodd double to center field, to win 12-11 and avoid the sweep. Justin Paul led the team from the plate, hitting
an even .500 while going 7-of-14 and recording six RBIs. His three run homerun in the fourth and final game
was instrumental in giving ENMU an early lead and keeping them in the game late. Jacob Cluff recorded five
hits over the series, while Dylan Nault and Chris Padillia each had four hits. Wesley Jordan led the team with
seven RBIs, including a three run homer of his own, and was a key factor in the Greyhounds game four win
when he came up to bat in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter and drove in two runs with a single to left field. On
the mound, the Greyhounds had good starts from James Thomas and Nick DeArmond, despite their final ERAs.
Thomas, who finished pitching 6.2 innings while striking out three batters, put in the most amount of work over
the weekend, pitching a full two innings more than any other arm in the rotation. DeArmond pitched several
shutout innings in his start, before having on disastrous inning that saw him head to the clubhouse. Prior to
that inning, the righty had stuck out a series high six batters and only gave up five runs on the day, all in the one
inning. Anthony Inge and Scott Klein came up big for the Greyhounds in relief roles, throwing a combined 3.1
shutout innings while only giving up four hits – two hits each. Inge struck out three batters and Klein two, with
Klein getting his first decision of the season in Sunday’s 12-11 win.
Tarleton State
Tarleton dropped three of four to Cameron. The Texans will head to Kingsville this weekend for a four-game
series.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M University-Kingsville went 4-1 last week and 3-1 in LSC play to move into a three-way tie for first
place in the conference with an 8-4 mark... the Javelinas came back from down three to take the midweek
tilt versus Our Lady of the Lake 4-3 with a four-run ninth... against Eastern New Mexico, the Javelina offense
exploded for 19 runs in game one and 19 runs in game two, followed by a dominating performance on the hill
by Preston Plovanich in a 6-0 shutout win.
West Texas A&M
The No. 18/22 West Texas A&M baseball team split a four game series with Angelo State over the weekend in
Canyon...WT won the opener 2-1 and won the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader 4-2 with two runs in
the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win...WT had leads in each game, but were unable to hang on for
wins in a 3-2 loss in the first game of Saturday’s twin bill and the 8-5 setback on Sunday...Late inning runs were
a common theme in the series as the teams combined for 27 runs with 10 coming in the final three innings
combined and seven combined runs in the seventh inning alone with WT plating five and ASU with two...The
Buffs went 1-2 when leading after six innings, 0-1 after seven innings and 1-0 after eight, while 0-1 when tied
after eight...WT outhit the Rams .292 to .261, but managed just two more hits for the series and slugged .340
(.288 ASU) and both teams reached base at a .288 clip...Three unearned runs proved costly for the Buffs in the
series, highlighted by four errors compared to no unearned runs for ASU and two miscues for the Rams...On
the mound, junior Justin McAllister continued to impress going eight innings, allowing four hits, one unearned
run with one walk and five strikeouts in the 2-1 opening win...Senior Austin Moore also earned a win with a
complete game four-hitter, allowing two unearned runs with one walk and two strikeouts...WT held a 3.09 ERA
(3.90 for ASU), but had just 17 strikeouts in the series...WT travels to Eastern New Mexico for a four game series
