LSC BASEBALL
West Texas A&M started Lone Star Conference action with a sweep to top the standings.
This week’s schedule includes non-conference contests before LSC games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to
the Easter holiday.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14
determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings.
Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games,
while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. This season, the top six teams play a single-elimination
championship on May 10-11-12, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 111-79 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 10-13
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Luis Amaro, West Texas A&M University, SR, INF, Roselle Park, N.J., Roselle Park HS
Amaro had another outstanding week hitting .571 (8 of 14) with seven runs, two doubles, a team-high four home runs
and 12 RBI. Amaro slugged 1.571 and reached base at a .588 clip with one stolen base in one attempt. He hit a game-
tying home run in a 4-3 win over Eastern New Mexico Saturday to account for three of the four runs with two homers.
Amaro belted a home run on Sunday to help WT sweep the series. He had three hits in each of the last two games of
the series and recorded a hit in all four games to extend his season-high six-game hitting streak.
CO-PITCHER
Evan Pontley, Tarleton State University, SR, RHP, Ferris, Texas, Ferris HS
Pontley was spectacular for the Texans last weekend as the senior pitcher fired his first career complete-game shutout
to lift Tarleton over No. 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville 2-0 in game three of the series. Pontley was in complete control from
the get-go as he allowed only two hits and two walks for the entire game. He carried a one-hitter into the seventh
before a weakly hit infield single provided the only other hit for the Javelinas, but Pontley sat down the next three
hitters in order to finish off the shutout. He struck out four and held Kingsville to a .091 batting average.

2. Trent Baker, Angelo State University, FR, Pitcher, Georgetown, Texas, Georgetown HS
Baker continued to build on an already strong season, throwing a one-hitter complete game on Saturday as the Rams
took down Cameron 3-0. It was his fourth straight win and the first complete game of his ASU career. He limited the
Aggies to just a .045 batting average on the night while striking out seven batters.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Julian Heredia, Eastern New Mexico University, batted .471 for the Hounds in their series against #16 West Texas
A&M. In four games, he posted a .941 slugging percentage with two doubles, two homers and six runs batted in. In 27
defensive chances at first base and catcher he played error free. Heredia batted safely in all for games, recording three
hits in both the opener and finale to extend his hit streak to six games.
Michael Urquidi, Angelo State University, had yet another strong weekend at the plate as the Rams took 3 of 4 from
Cameron. The junior hit his first two home runs of the season against the Aggies while hitting .462 on the weekend and
reaching base 11 times. He collected 13 total bases, which led the team, and scored four times.
Blake Adams, Tarleton State University, led the way for Tarleton to three wins in four games against No. 14 Texas
A&M-Kingsville in Stephenville last weekend. The senior outfielder hit .455 in four games, recording five hits in 11 at bats
and drawing six free bases - four walks and two hit by pitches. Of his five hits, two went for extra bases including a
bases-clearing double to break open game two of the series and spark an 11-run inning in a 12-1 rout. For the week,
Adams also scored three runs and drove in five RBI while working a flawless left field defensively.
Ryan Larison, West Texas A&M University, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in a 13-1 win over Eastern New Mexico this
week as the Buffs swept a four-game series to open Lone Star Conference play. He went six innings, tying his season-
high, allowing seven hits, one unearned run, walked two and fanned five as ENMU hit .280 against him. He allowed just
one extra-base hit - a double in the start. Larson is 4-0 this season with a 3.76 ERA in 40.2 innings in eight starts.
Tyler Flores, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, made his first career start in game four against Tarleton State and
turned in a 4-hit, 1-run performance to salvage a win in the series against the Texans. Flores struck out four in his first
career start to improve to 2-0 on the year with two saves and maintain his team-leading 1.45 ERA.

3. Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico baseball team exploded for 21 runs in its series with #16 West Texas A&M. On Sunday, the
Greyhounds' 12 runs represented the team's highest total against the Buffaloes since 2008. Chris Padilla led ENMU at
the plate with a .500 batting average, while Julian Heredia hit .471 with a .941 slugging percentage. This week, the
Hounds will host Cameron.
Tarleton State
Tarleton took three of four from Kingsville to open LSC play. The Texans head to San Angelo for four games this
weekend.

1-3 last week.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin defeated Southwest 8-3 on the road in their only game of the week. Six pitchers combined to allow six
hits while striking out nine on the day. Skyler Palermo led the UTPB offense with a pair of hits, including a two-run
double in the first inning to take an early lead. Lance Wasson also had a pair of RBI for the Falcons. Mike Fernandez
added a pair of hits while Matt Gilmore scored twice in the victory.
West Texas A&M
The West Texas A&M baseball team, ranked 16th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, swept its conference
opener against Eastern New Mexico this weekend at Wilder Park...WT hit .350 for the weekend on 43 of 123 with 46
runs scored, 15 doubles, one triple and recorded a season-high eight home runs as the team slugged .683 and reached
base at a .448 clip with 23 walks and three hit batsmen...WT went a perfect 8 of 8 in stolen bases and had five errors
leading to three unearned runs...Senior Luis Amaro continued an impressive month of March, going 8 of 14 (.571) from
the dish with two doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored and drove in a team-high 12...Amaro hit two home runs in
a 4-3, come-from-behind win Saturday and blasted another on Sunday...He has recorded hits in the last six games and
reached safely in the last six games...He slugged 1.571 and reached base at a .588 clip...Junior Nick Guaragna hit .538
with 7 hits in 13 at bats, six runs scored with two doubles, one home run and six RBI...Senior Bodie Bryan scored a team-
high nine runs and drove in nine, while hitting .400...On the mound, the Buffs had some struggles, but recorded a 5.06
ERA in 32 innings, while allowing 43 hits, 21 runs - 18 earned, walked eight and fanned 21 as the Greyhounds hit .328
against it...Senior Ryan Larison had the best start, going six innings, allowing seven hits, one unearned run, walked two
and fanned five...Juniors Dominic Yearego and Braden Baker each picked up saves in the series sweep...WT leads the LSC
after the first conference weekend with a 4-0 record...WT improved to 22-7 on the year and 17-2 at home, winning six of
eight games in the homestand...WT head coach Matt Vanderburg is 299-198 at WT in his 10th season and is 398-265 in
13 seasons of coaching...The Buffs head on the road this week at UT Permian Basin for its conference opener...
