1. LSC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The top four Lone Star Conference baseball teams will meet in San Angelo, Texas, May 11-13, for the annual
LSC Baseball Championship.
Angelo State won its second straight and fourth overall LSC title with a 17-6 league record and is the top seed
and host. Texas A&M-Kingsville is the No. 2 seed, while West Texas A&M is the third seed, and Cameron fourth.
The double-elimination event begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday. The event will take place at
Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
All the games will be streamed live free of charge through the LSC’s GameCentral portal (http://portal.
stretchinternet.com/lonestar). In addition to supporting desktop and laptop computers, GameCentral’s
responsive design will support mobile devices as well (iPad, iPhones, Android).
LSC BASEBALL
LSC baseball teams are 200-139 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently
34-13 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 7-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Mitch Henshaw, Angelo State University, JR, DH/1B, Conroe, Texas, Conroe HS
Henshaw had one of his best weeks as a Ram, driving in a team-high eight runs and collecting 19 total bases
in a series win for ASU over WT. The junior had 10 hits overall with three doubles and a pair of home runs,
leading the Rams in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Henshaw was also the hero
in Sunday’s series-clinching win, blasting a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rams on top.
The Conroe native is now tied for sixth in the LSC with seven home runs this year.
PITCHER
Javarias Banks, Cameron University, SR, Pitcher, DeSoto, Texas, DeSoto HS
Banks had a career game in his final appearance in front of the home fans. The senior pitcher, on Senior Day,
got the start against Texas A&M-Kingsville and limited them to just two hits in the seven inning contest; those
two hits were a bunt single and a double that was just out of the reach of the CU center fielder. Banks held
the opposition to hitting just .100 against him and struck out seven Javelinas batters along the way. The right-
hander was dominant with runners on base allowing just one opposing batter to reach second base and that
was on the double in the seventh inning.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Luis Amaro, West Texas A&M University, had a career weekend for the Buffs in the regular season finale as he
went a team-best 7 of 14 from the dish with six runs scored, one double, three home runs and eight RBI. Amaro
slugged 1.214 and reached base at a .563 clip with two walks. Amaro blasted two home runs in the finale of
the series on Sunday, but ASU came back for the late-inning win. Amaro moved into a tie for first in home runs
on the team with five as his first blast on the weekend gave WT the lead in a 6-5 win over the No. 14 Rams on
Saturday.
Alex DeLaCruz, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in a historic season for the Greyhounds. The second
baseman set the program record for runs scored in game two on Saturday and finished second in average,
second in on-base percentage, fourth in hits, tenth in doubles, sixth in total bases, and sixth in stolen bases.
He has consistently been the best hitter in the Lone Star Conference, leading the league in batting average,
runs scored, hits, total bases, slugging percentage, third in doubles, sixth in home runs, sixth in RBI, tenth in
walks, 14th fewest strikeouts, third in on-base percentage and second in stolen bases. This weekend, he hit
at a .462 clip and came a single shy of the cycle in the finale on Sunday. He drove in six runs on the weekend,
including a grand slam on Sunday. Overall, he had an astronomical slugging percentage at .923 and a .650 on-
base percentage.
Matt Shannon, Angelo State University, made multiple appearances in a weekend series for the first time all
year against West Texas A&M, starting the opening game Friday night and closing out the win on Sunday. The
Pleasanton native pitched seven innings of shutout ball Friday night as the Rams won 3-0. He scattered five hits
in the appearance and struck out seven. Shannon then came on to close on Sunday after the Rams retook the
lead in the top of the ninth inning and allowed just one hit while striking out one at the end of the 9-7 ASU win.
The shutout inning earned Shannon the first save of the season and just the second of his collegiate career.
Dominic Yearego, West Texas A&M University, saw action in three games in relief for the Buffs and earned
the save in a 6-5 win over No. 14 Angelo State on Saturday. Yearego pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, two
earned runs, walked one and fanned four as the Rams hit just .222 against him. Yearego ranks second on the
team in saves with three.

2010... Earned the LSC regular season championship for the second straight year and the fourth time overall.

Cameron
Cameron clinched a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament with a four game sweep of Texas A&M-
Kingsville this past weekend. Coach Brady Huston got great starts from Andrew Garza, Javarias Banks, Matt
Glassman, and John Millan as each got wins, while Tyler Abrego was dominant out of the bullpen. Seven of
CU’s hitters batted over .300 with senior Cody Knight and freshman Luke Hughes each driving in four runs on
the weekend.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico baseball team saw its historic season come to a close this weekend, finishing the year
at 32-18 and 10-12 in the LSC. The Greyhounds finished the year with the second-best turnaround in NCAA
Division II since 1998 after coming off a 10-40 season a year ago. Infielder Alex DeLaCruz turned in a season

The Buffs lost their only conference series of the year this weekend going 1-3 against No. 14 Angelo State...
WT had a chance to win three of the four games, but the Rams rallied for victories in each, including posting
five runs in the ninth inning Sunday, erasing a 7-4 WT lead on Senior Day...Junior Luis Amaro blasted two
home runs for the game and three on the weekend as he went 7 of 14 from the plate with six runs scored, one
double and the three bombs accounting for eight RBI...Struggles at the plate and leaving men on base hurt the
Buffs throughout the series as the team stranded 29 and hit just .270 for the series, while ASU hit .326 and
capitalized on the Buffs’ struggles. WT allowed 30 runs in the series and scored just 16, finishing the regular
season at 32-16 and 13-9 in Lone Star Conference play...The Buffs will be the No. 3-seed in the upcoming Lone
Star Conference Championship at Angelo State this week...WT won its first Lone Star Conference Tournament
title last season at Angelo State, earning its third-straight trip to the NCAA South Central Regional...The Buffs
have been ranked fourth in the first two NCAA South Central Region rankings published by the NCAA.
