April 24, 2018
LSC BASEBALL
West Texas A&M leads the Lone Star Conference standings at 14-2 in league games.
This week’s schedule consists of league contests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14
determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings.
Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games,
while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. This season, the top six teams play a single-elimination
championship on May 10-11-12, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 161-127 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 10-
13 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Eurick Perez, Eastern New Mexico University, hit safely in all four games in last weekend's series at Angelo State. He
batted 3-for-7, scored four runs, drove in five and homered over Saturday's doubleheader. That performance lifted
ENMU to its second-ever doubleheader sweep over the Rams, and first since 2005. In the third game of the series, he
drove in the first two runs to give the Hounds a lead they would not relinquish. In Saturday's first game Perez homered
to tie the contest. Over the weekend, he tossed out four potential base stealers in three games behind the plate.
Luke Morton, Tarleton State University, hit .462 with four RBI and two runs scored in Tarleton's series split with No.
6 West Texas A&M. The junior left-handed designated hitter had a double and a home run while slugging .769 for the
weekend.
Dalton Drury, UT Permian Basin, had a big weekend for UT Permian Basin. In the Falcons upset win over Texas A&M
- Kingsville he picked up his third home run of the season and his eighth triple of the season, which leads the Lone Star
Conference and is second in NCAA Division II. In the second game of the double header Saturday he picked up his team
leading fourth home run of the season.
Christian Caudle, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, made a triumphant return to the lineup for the Javelinas against
UTPB after missing the previous seven games due to injury. Caudle posted a hit in his lone at bat as a sub in game one
against the Falcons before getting a hit in the next three games of the series, including the walk-off single in game four
to give the Hogs a 6-5 win in the game and a 3-1 win in the series. The senior from Klein, Texas, was also perfect from
behind the plate in 26 chances and threw out two runners over the weekend to bring his season total to nine.
3. Austin Thomason , Angelo State University, made his first appearance of the season against Eastern New Mexico and
attacked the hitters he faced. Thomason filled up the strike zone, giving up three hits but also recording strikeouts for all
five out the outs he recorded on the night.
Joshua Valdez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, was instrumental in securing two of TAMUK's wins over UTPB over
the weekend as the junior recorded two saves over 2 and 2/3 innings of work. Valdez started his weekend with a five-
out save in game one of the series against the Falcons after entering the game in the top of the eighth with one out and
the bases loaded and retiring the next two batters on strikes before giving up a leadoff infield hit and fanning the final
three in the ninth. The Kyle, Texas, native closed his run over the weekend with a save in game three of the series after
coming into the contest in the seventh inning and getting three of four batters faced on either a popup or a fly out.
Valdez currently leads the Hogs with a 1.19 ERA and is second on the team with a .160 opponent batting average.
Braden Baker, West Texas A&M University, earned his fifth save of the season pitching 0.1 innings in a 6-3 win over
Tarleton State in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of the Texans on Sunday. WT had a one-hit shutout going into
the seventh, but the Texans scored three runs on five hits in the frame prior to Baker's entrance as the Texans had the
bases loaded when Baker entered. Baker got an easy ground to himself for the final out. The win snapped TSU's 10-
game winning streak. Baker then was needed in relief in the nightcap where he came in with one out and two on in the
bottom of the fourth and got a pair of fielder's choice outs to get out of the jam as TSU had tied the game at three prior
to Baker's entrance. He then proceeded to finish the game, allowing just two hits the rest of the way, walking one and
fanning three as he improved to 5-2 on the season. With the two wins on Sunday, WT pushed its lead in the LSC back to
four games in the loss column as the Buffs have eight games to play.
Levi Shandrew, Eastern New Mexico University, made two appearances in ENMU's series at Angelo State. In the first
game of Saturday's doubleheader, he entered with the tying run at the plate. Over 1.1 innings he garnered his fifth save
of the season, holding the Rams hitless and fanning four batters. In the finale, Shandrew allowed one run on three hits
over 2.1 innings.

doubleheader sweep Sunday for the split and push the lead back to four games in the loss column for the Buffs with
eight games to play...Coming off a .466 hitting performance against Cameron last week, WT really struggled hitting as it

home run...WT walked 17 times with six hit batters and fanned 36 times...Four errors led to one unearned run...WT

the series with two runs scored and RBI, while junior Tag Baxter led the team going 6 of 13 with two runs
scored...Seniors Bodie Bryan and Jimmy Cubillos each had three RBI on four hits and a run scored, while both recorded
triples...Junior Darin Cook was masterful as he tossed a one-hit shutout through six innings Sunday before junior Braden
Baker entered the game with WT leading 6-3 in the opener on Sunday in the seventh as TSU had the bases loaded with
two out...He got a ground out to end the game and then pitched 3.2 innings in relief in the nightcap for a win...He
earned his fifth save of the season and won his fifth game (5-2)...The Buffs return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville for
