5. Find Alternative Terms for your keyword(s) by
consulting the Subject Heading in CINAHL .

6. Step 3: Find Alternative Words using CINAHL Headings

7. Find Alternative Words using CINAHL Headings
Keyword #2= African Americans
Alternative word=Blacks

8. Step 4: Combine keywords using Boolean Operators
Boolean logic is the relationship between keywords found in your research topic.
Boolean logic consists of three operators: AND, OR, NOT, also known as Boolean
Operators.
Boolean Operators to narrow, broaden, or exclude keywords from your search
results.
Boolean Operator AND is used to narrow your search
Boolean Operator OR is used to broaden your search
Boolean Operator NOT is used to exclude words from your search

9. Step 5: Construct database search strategies using
Boolean Operators
Search Strategy 1: High Blood Pressure AND African Americans
Search Strategy 2: Hypertension AND Blacks
Search Strategy 3: High blood Pressure OR Hypertension AND
African American OR Blacks

10. Step 6: Perform a database search using search strategies
(Use the Advanced Search Option)

11. Step 7: Apply Limiters Range of Years
Select: First Author is Nurse
And Any Author is Nurse
