Initial Plans
Jack Morton
Initial Reaction
My initial thought is making a video game animation for my final major
project, where I will use Photoshop to make the video game. I then will
use premiere pro to make audio sound effects, for the characters and
objects. The reason I have chosen to create a video game is because I
personally I think I'm really good at it. An example would be I've used
Photoshop for a long time now, therefore I feel confident in my ability to
find the tools I need to create my video game. If this plan would fail I
would consider filming for my FMP as I have had experience with this
area before, as I did this for my level 2 media FMP. However in my
opinion the video game will be best suited for me as I feel the most
confident when animating games. I also feel that making video games is
more creative than making a film, because you make something from
scratch. The reason I didn’t do print for my FMP is because it didn’t really
appeal to me, as its designing websites and creating engaging layouts and
fonts. I haven’t done print in level 2, so I have no previous knowledge of
making websites and designs. I would want longer time in creating my
projects, as we had a extra week in level 2 to finish off any work.
However in level 3 we have more freedom to explore different ideas and
products. I would want to emulate the magazine rotation into my work,
as I did a lot of photoshop for that rotation. Therefore I will be able to
incorporate my skills over, for example editing, designing and creating. I
feel that this will help me a lot and also get through the design phases a
lot more quicker. For my last rotation I did film and I feel that using my
techniques I learnt from doing film it will help me with my video game
because I used a program called premiere pro to help me edit the scenes
I did for the film rotation. Therefore I can incorporate these skills into
adding sound effects and adding transitions to my video game.

The reason I will be making the game fast
paced is because I want the player to be
on the edge of their seat dodging
asteroids and lasers. I want the game to
be surprising to the audience therefore
the gameplay feels fresh and new. I feel
that I would be more enjoyable to make a
fast paced game as I have to make
unsuspecting moments in the gameplay
which sounds interesting to me. The
reason I will be adding special effects into
the gameplay is because I want the
audience to have something fresh and
new to happen, for example they could
get a health power up or a damage boost.
This will change the course of the
gameplay and make it more interesting
and new unique. This will make the game
more enjoyable to make as I want to
create special abilities to spice up the
gameplay. I will be implementing a scoring
system to make the player compete
against each other. I think the player will
enjoy the score board as it will make them
want to aim higher to achieve a high
score. I want the game to be challenging
as well as competitive, therefore I will also
be implementing different difficulties. I
then will add in sound effects to make the
game more immersive. This will be
enjoyable to make as it can be creative to
make my own audio.

The reason I chose Fulford as my location is because it was easily accessible and near to where I
live. The location also suits my film idea, as the setting fits well with my concept. The reason I
will be using props is to make the scene more authentic. I will be using the college equipment
because I won’t have the equipment at home.

The reason I will be using bright colours is because I want to attract the audience to my gaming
magazine. I will be adding a settings guide to tell the audience, if they will be able to run the
game. A reason I will be adding a eye catching fonts, is to attract the audience to the gaming
magazine. I will be also giving a review of the game to tell the audience if its worth buying.

The reason I will be using a colour scheme is to plan out the colours I will be using for my FMP. I
then will use garage band to make my music as its easy to use and understandable to me. The
movement will be smooth because it will make the controls easy to use. The sound effects will
match the actions of the characters to make it real and authentic. I then will add a scoring
system to make it competitive.

Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• In my mood board there are repeated colours such as the colour black, This tells me its bland, dull
and doesn't’t really stand out to the audience. Another colour that is repeated is the colour red.
The colour red is seen in multiple images that I have collected, this suggests to me that they are
trying to grab the attention of the audience. The image style is retro as the images I have collected
are repeated in my mood board. This suggests to me that the games are old games. The same type
of font is repeated in my mood board. This tells me they are trying to give of a sci-fi feel to the
game. The tone that is repeated in my mood board suggests to me that they feel empty or
unfinished. There is a repeated mood throughout my mood board and that is dullness. It feels that
the games missing something. The connotation of my mood board is emptiness as I can only see
darkness in the images that I have gathered. The denotation of my mood board is that its mainly
dark and also a bit of red in the images.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• My mood board will influence my final product by giving ideas on what colour scheme I will be
going for to grab the attention of the audience. It will also influence the style of the product I'm
going to make e.g. a retro style. My mood board will also influence the tone of my final product by
letting me know how to make a colourful video game. My mood board will also influence my final
product by giving information and planning on what sort of mood I will be wanting to target at my
audience.

• Yes I have repeated colours as the mode is green. I do intend to make the video game characters/spaceships
green. The reason I have done this is because It will stand out to the audience as it will grab their attention
because the space ships will stand out like a soar thumb. It does have repetition such as the pixel style and Sci-Fi
theme. The reason I have done this is because its easy to make a pixel design as it will save time and allow me to
put more detail towards other slides. The reason I have chosen the Sci-Fi theme is because its similar to my
influence which is asteroids. I have repeated green which will be my main colour for this project, as it would catch
the customers eye. The tone is set out to be dark and mysterious as it would make the viewer/customer interested
in the story behind what's happening.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• My mood board will influence my final product as I realised I had to make a space ship with a detailed design this
would take longer to make and therefore making me go over the deadline. The mood board has change my mind to
go for a green colour as this would stand out to the audience as it will grab their attention because the space ships
will stand out like a soar thumb. It will also catch the customers eye. The design will be different to the original
design because of plagiarism as this would get my work removed. The game will work differently as for copy right
issues and because I have limited time on this, therefore I have to cut the design to something more simpler as it
would go over the deadline. The logo will also be different as it would cause copy right issues as this will also bring
different colour schemes and design to counter react this. The design will be based on Sci-Fi and famous films E.G.
star wars that will help in my plan and final product in creating the enemy's space ship and my own. The game will
have sound effects that are designed and made by me. This will be the shooting sound from the space ship to
destroy the enemy. There will be also sound effects for movement and when you die in the game.
Pros and cons
The strengths of making a video game, is that I have had past experience with designing and animating games.
Therefore I will feel confident in creating a video game, for my FMP. I do have weaknesses of making video
games and that is I spend to much time developing the animation. This results in losing time for my other
products and power points. Another strength of choosing video games for my FMP is that you have more
freedom and creativity when making the FMP. Another weakness of making a video game is copy right issues,
for example for music and designs.
The strengths of doing a film for my FMP is that, I have unique and interesting ideas to engage the audience.
This will make the audience want to watch the film and it will be new, fresh and intriguing. I do have
weaknesses such as the location is very dull, boring and wont really make it dramatic. Therefore won't really
attract the audience to watch the short film. Another strength of choosing short film would be the equipment
is located at york college, therefore I wont have to struggle about gathering/finding the equipment. A
weakness of me doing film would be struggling to create the background music, as I have to have crate my own
so I don’t have copy right problems.
A strength of choosing a gaming magazine would be its something I'm interested in and would find my self
enjoy doing. However the weaknesses of choosing a gaming magazine would be its time consuming to develop
and make websites. Another strength of choosing a magazine would be that I'm confident in creating products
with Photoshop. A weakness of a gaming magazine would be taking pictures for the background, as I cant have
copyright content. Another strength would be its easy to understand how to create a layout and fonts to attract
the audience into getting their attention.

1. initial plans

  • 2. Initial Reaction My initial thought is making a video game animation for my final major project, where I will use Photoshop to make the video game. I then will use premiere pro to make audio sound effects, for the characters and objects. The reason I have chosen to create a video game is because I personally I think I'm really good at it. An example would be I've used Photoshop for a long time now, therefore I feel confident in my ability to find the tools I need to create my video game. If this plan would fail I would consider filming for my FMP as I have had experience with this area before, as I did this for my level 2 media FMP. However in my opinion the video game will be best suited for me as I feel the most confident when animating games. I also feel that making video games is more creative than making a film, because you make something from scratch. The reason I didn’t do print for my FMP is because it didn’t really appeal to me, as its designing websites and creating engaging layouts and fonts. I haven’t done print in level 2, so I have no previous knowledge of making websites and designs. I would want longer time in creating my projects, as we had a extra week in level 2 to finish off any work. However in level 3 we have more freedom to explore different ideas and products. I would want to emulate the magazine rotation into my work, as I did a lot of photoshop for that rotation. Therefore I will be able to incorporate my skills over, for example editing, designing and creating. I feel that this will help me a lot and also get through the design phases a lot more quicker. For my last rotation I did film and I feel that using my techniques I learnt from doing film it will help me with my video game because I used a program called premiere pro to help me edit the scenes I did for the film rotation. Therefore I can incorporate these skills into adding sound effects and adding transitions to my video game.
  • 3. Mind Map Video game The reason I will be making the game fast paced is because I want the player to be on the edge of their seat dodging asteroids and lasers. I want the game to be surprising to the audience therefore the gameplay feels fresh and new. I feel that I would be more enjoyable to make a fast paced game as I have to make unsuspecting moments in the gameplay which sounds interesting to me. The reason I will be adding special effects into the gameplay is because I want the audience to have something fresh and new to happen, for example they could get a health power up or a damage boost. This will change the course of the gameplay and make it more interesting and new unique. This will make the game more enjoyable to make as I want to create special abilities to spice up the gameplay. I will be implementing a scoring system to make the player compete against each other. I think the player will enjoy the score board as it will make them want to aim higher to achieve a high score. I want the game to be challenging as well as competitive, therefore I will also be implementing different difficulties. I then will add in sound effects to make the game more immersive. This will be enjoyable to make as it can be creative to make my own audio.
  • 5. Mind Map Film The reason I chose Fulford as my location is because it was easily accessible and near to where I live. The location also suits my film idea, as the setting fits well with my concept. The reason I will be using props is to make the scene more authentic. I will be using the college equipment because I won’t have the equipment at home.
  • 6. Mind Map Gaming Magazine The reason I will be using bright colours is because I want to attract the audience to my gaming magazine. I will be adding a settings guide to tell the audience, if they will be able to run the game. A reason I will be adding a eye catching fonts, is to attract the audience to the gaming magazine. I will be also giving a review of the game to tell the audience if its worth buying.
  • 7. Mind Map The reason I will be using a colour scheme is to plan out the colours I will be using for my FMP. I then will use garage band to make my music as its easy to use and understandable to me. The movement will be smooth because it will make the controls easy to use. The sound effects will match the actions of the characters to make it real and authentic. I then will add a scoring system to make it competitive.
  • 10. Mood Board Analysis Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood • In my mood board there are repeated colours such as the colour black, This tells me its bland, dull and doesn't’t really stand out to the audience. Another colour that is repeated is the colour red. The colour red is seen in multiple images that I have collected, this suggests to me that they are trying to grab the attention of the audience. The image style is retro as the images I have collected are repeated in my mood board. This suggests to me that the games are old games. The same type of font is repeated in my mood board. This tells me they are trying to give of a sci-fi feel to the game. The tone that is repeated in my mood board suggests to me that they feel empty or unfinished. There is a repeated mood throughout my mood board and that is dullness. It feels that the games missing something. The connotation of my mood board is emptiness as I can only see darkness in the images that I have gathered. The denotation of my mood board is that its mainly dark and also a bit of red in the images. How will your mood board influence your final product? • My mood board will influence my final product by giving ideas on what colour scheme I will be going for to grab the attention of the audience. It will also influence the style of the product I'm going to make e.g. a retro style. My mood board will also influence the tone of my final product by letting me know how to make a colourful video game. My mood board will also influence my final product by giving information and planning on what sort of mood I will be wanting to target at my audience.
  • 12. Mood Board Analysis Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood • Yes I have repeated colours as the mode is green. I do intend to make the video game characters/spaceships green. The reason I have done this is because It will stand out to the audience as it will grab their attention because the space ships will stand out like a soar thumb. It does have repetition such as the pixel style and Sci-Fi theme. The reason I have done this is because its easy to make a pixel design as it will save time and allow me to put more detail towards other slides. The reason I have chosen the Sci-Fi theme is because its similar to my influence which is asteroids. I have repeated green which will be my main colour for this project, as it would catch the customers eye. The tone is set out to be dark and mysterious as it would make the viewer/customer interested in the story behind what's happening. How will your mood board influence your final product? • My mood board will influence my final product as I realised I had to make a space ship with a detailed design this would take longer to make and therefore making me go over the deadline. The mood board has change my mind to go for a green colour as this would stand out to the audience as it will grab their attention because the space ships will stand out like a soar thumb. It will also catch the customers eye. The design will be different to the original design because of plagiarism as this would get my work removed. The game will work differently as for copy right issues and because I have limited time on this, therefore I have to cut the design to something more simpler as it would go over the deadline. The logo will also be different as it would cause copy right issues as this will also bring different colour schemes and design to counter react this. The design will be based on Sci-Fi and famous films E.G. star wars that will help in my plan and final product in creating the enemy's space ship and my own. The game will have sound effects that are designed and made by me. This will be the shooting sound from the space ship to destroy the enemy. There will be also sound effects for movement and when you die in the game.
  • 13. Pros and cons The strengths of making a video game, is that I have had past experience with designing and animating games. Therefore I will feel confident in creating a video game, for my FMP. I do have weaknesses of making video games and that is I spend to much time developing the animation. This results in losing time for my other products and power points. Another strength of choosing video games for my FMP is that you have more freedom and creativity when making the FMP. Another weakness of making a video game is copy right issues, for example for music and designs. The strengths of doing a film for my FMP is that, I have unique and interesting ideas to engage the audience. This will make the audience want to watch the film and it will be new, fresh and intriguing. I do have weaknesses such as the location is very dull, boring and wont really make it dramatic. Therefore won't really attract the audience to watch the short film. Another strength of choosing short film would be the equipment is located at york college, therefore I wont have to struggle about gathering/finding the equipment. A weakness of me doing film would be struggling to create the background music, as I have to have crate my own so I don’t have copy right problems. A strength of choosing a gaming magazine would be its something I'm interested in and would find my self enjoy doing. However the weaknesses of choosing a gaming magazine would be its time consuming to develop and make websites. Another strength of choosing a magazine would be that I'm confident in creating products with Photoshop. A weakness of a gaming magazine would be taking pictures for the background, as I cant have copyright content. Another strength would be its easy to understand how to create a layout and fonts to attract the audience into getting their attention.
