I n i t i a l R e a c t i o n
When I heard our first rotation was video games, I felt like I could improve and be more creative with my game
than I was with my Irn Bru advergame. I thought I could make it better by thinking of a better idea, however,
this video game will be a 2D sidescoller so I will have to think of my target audience for the game to appeal to
them.
As I am not a person who plays games as much as people in my class, I found it difficult to think of what kind of
game will appeal to anyone. Especially, for my Case Studies when I had to pick out a game, but I wasn’t sure on
what game to base it on and talk about in detail.
M i n d M a p
C a t c h t h e F l a m i n g o :
A side-scrolling 2D person running to
the end of the game and they have to
try and catch all the flamingos on the
way. The background will be of a river
and the character will be running
through the water. There will be
water splashes to show the reality
within the game. These are some of
the colours that I’m going to use for
this game.
M a t c h I t :
I will use different tile pieces by thinking of my own
images to add to it and then there will be sound effects
for every time you get it right. A timer for how long it
takes you instead of it counting downwards. The
colours for this game will be colourful. As it is a game
with loads of objects in it, the colours will make it full
of suspense.
C a t c h M e :
Use the arrows keys and try and catch
the food otherwise you’ll die. You
have a short amount of time to try
and get the food or game over. The
colours in this game will be very
bland and solid. This is to show the
simplicity of the game.

Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
(repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood)
In the games that I have gathered, there is some repetition in the characters clothing and usage of the colour
blue. The target audience for Super Mario is 3+ so they have used colours that are subtle for a child. The target
audience for Sonic the Hedgehog is 6+ and they have used the colour blue. The connotations of the different
shades of blue are trust or peace. It can also suggest loyalty. This is probably why young children carry on playing
that game. Blue has also been used in the game as the background. They have used the colour green for the
trees, this connotes to the colour of life and nature. They have used white for the clouds which connotes to
pureness and light.
On the title screen, for Sonic the Hedgehog, they have used the colour golden yellow which connotes to
happiness. They will make the child feel happy for two reasons: one they are playing Sonic and two the usage of
happy and bright colours. For, Super Mario, the colour they have used is light pink which connotes to sweet and
playful but they have used a red brick background which connotes to fire or violence.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
Overall, when I have looked over at my mood board and blurred my eyes, my focus goes straight to the PacMan’s
ghosts. They follow a very simple idea and use little but bright colour to get the audiences attention. So, from my
mood board, I will take the simplicity of the characters and the colours because you seem to focus on that more
and not think about it as much as a complicated character.

I have taken a look at the main Power Point for video games and I have looked at the game
world. I have used technical gaming jargon that are in the Power Point. After, I picked out a game
that I have played (preferably) and then analyse it.
In this, I have to talk about how I felt when I found out that video games was the first rotation.
For this, I had to do a mood board using images relating to my final product. Another thing I had
to do is a mind map, which was exploring three ideas first and then one final mind map talking
about the idea in detail.

For this, I had to do a mood board using images relating to my final product. Another thing I had
to do is a mind map, which was exploring three ideas first and then one final mind map talking
about the idea in detail.
This is an experiment, basically a practise experiment to try-out more skills on Photoshop. The
analysis is then talking about what features from that experiment I would use for my final
product.
This is talking about the audience, rationale, project content and evaluation.
Some types of planning that will be is a style sheet by exploring different colours that I might
use for my final product , layouts of what my game will look like, sounds effects and music.
Lastly, thinking about the contingency plan, and healthy and safely

will be making my game, adding sound effects and adding music to it as well. Hopefully, making
my own kind of music instead of downloading it.
5 Evaluation The last week will be the evaluating week. This will be focused all on the final product and any
last work you want to improve.

As I am not a person who plays games as much as people in my class, I found it difficult to think of what kind of game will appeal to anyone. Especially, for my Case Studies when I had to pick out a game, but I wasn’t sure on what game to base it on and talk about in detail.
  • 3. M i n d M a p C a t c h t h e F l a m i n g o : A side-scrolling 2D person running to the end of the game and they have to try and catch all the flamingos on the way. The background will be of a river and the character will be running through the water. There will be water splashes to show the reality within the game. These are some of the colours that I’m going to use for this game. M a t c h I t : I will use different tile pieces by thinking of my own images to add to it and then there will be sound effects for every time you get it right. A timer for how long it takes you instead of it counting downwards. The colours for this game will be colourful. As it is a game with loads of objects in it, the colours will make it full of suspense. C a t c h M e : Use the arrows keys and try and catch the food otherwise you’ll die. You have a short amount of time to try and get the food or game over. The colours in this game will be very bland and solid. This is to show the simplicity of the game.   • 6. M o o d B o a r d A n a l y s i s Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? (repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood) In the games that I have gathered, there is some repetition in the characters clothing and usage of the colour blue. The target audience for Super Mario is 3+ so they have used colours that are subtle for a child. The target audience for Sonic the Hedgehog is 6+ and they have used the colour blue. The connotations of the different shades of blue are trust or peace. It can also suggest loyalty. This is probably why young children carry on playing that game. Blue has also been used in the game as the background. They have used the colour green for the trees, this connotes to the colour of life and nature. They have used white for the clouds which connotes to pureness and light. On the title screen, for Sonic the Hedgehog, they have used the colour golden yellow which connotes to happiness. They will make the child feel happy for two reasons: one they are playing Sonic and two the usage of happy and bright colours. For, Super Mario, the colour they have used is light pink which connotes to sweet and playful but they have used a red brick background which connotes to fire or violence. How will your mood board influence your final product? Overall, when I have looked over at my mood board and blurred my eyes, my focus goes straight to the PacMan’s ghosts. They follow a very simple idea and use little but bright colour to get the audiences attention. So, from my mood board, I will take the simplicity of the characters and the colours because you seem to focus on that more and not think about it as much as a complicated character.
  • 7. ScheduleWeek: Overall Plan: Specific Tasks: 1 Case Study, Initial Response, Product Research I have taken a look at the main Power Point for video games and I have looked at the game world. I have used technical gaming jargon that are in the Power Point. After, I picked out a game that I have played (preferably) and then analyse it. In this, I have to talk about how I felt when I found out that video games was the first rotation. For this, I had to do a mood board using images relating to my final product. Another thing I had to do is a mind map, which was exploring three ideas first and then one final mind map talking about the idea in detail. 2 Audience Research, Production Experiments, Proposal, Planning For this, I had to do a mood board using images relating to my final product. Another thing I had to do is a mind map, which was exploring three ideas first and then one final mind map talking about the idea in detail. This is an experiment, basically a practise experiment to try-out more skills on Photoshop. The analysis is then talking about what features from that experiment I would use for my final product. This is talking about the audience, rationale, project content and evaluation. Some types of planning that will be is a style sheet by exploring different colours that I might use for my final product , layouts of what my game will look like, sounds effects and music. Lastly, thinking about the contingency plan, and healthy and safely 3 & 4 Production For at least two weeks, I will be starting to produce my advergame. Within these two weeks, I will be making my game, adding sound effects and adding music to it as well. Hopefully, making my own kind of music instead of downloading it. 5 Evaluation The last week will be the evaluating week. This will be focused all on the final product and any last work you want to improve.
