3. Air Pollution in Delhi-NCR: SC directs Centre,
States to Impose Complete Lockdown
• Air Pollution in Delhi-NCR: Delhi Government
informed the Supreme Court on November 15,
2021 that it is ready to impose a lockdown if
the centre can consider having it in the entire
NCR region.
• Delhi Government said in an affidavit to the top
court that it is ready to take measures like

4. India receives S-400 Triumf air defence system
from Russia
• Russia started the supply of the S-400 Triumf
air defence system to India, announced the
Director of Russian Federal Service for Military-
Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Dmitry Shugaev.
• The S-400 Triumf air defence system will be a
major boost to Indian capabilities to take out
enemy fighter aircraft and cruise missiles at
long range.

that parts of the S-400 defence system have

away at 90
• Mannu Bhandari, a renowned and widely celebrated Indian
author has passed away at the age of 90.
• The news of her demise was confirmed by her family. Mannu
Bhandari breathed her last in Gurugram where she had been
living with her daughter.
• As per her son-in-law, Bhandari was not keeping well for the
last few years and had been in the hospital for the past week.
• She passed away at around 2 pm on November 15, 2021.
• Mannu Bhandari, a renowned name in the literary world, had
been credited with writing various books, which date back to
the late 1950s and early 1960s India.

7. Defence Minister inaugurates UP's first
operationalized private sector defence manufacturing
facility

November 13, 2021, inaugurated Uttar Pradesh’s
first operationalized private sector defence
manufacturing facility in Lucknow.
• The facility, established in Uttar Pradesh Defence
Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), Lucknow, will be run
by Aerolloy Technologies which is a wholly-owned
subsidiary of PTC Industries.
• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also laid the
foundation stone for an integrated metal
manufacturing facility under PTC industries that
will produce key raw materials in titanium and
other exotic alloys for aerospace applications.

8. Defence Ministry to decide on acquisition of 30
Predator drones from US
• The Union Defence Ministry has called a high-level meeting
on November 15, 2021 to discuss the acquisition of 30
Predator drones from the United States worth around Rs
21,000 crore.
• The deal has been in the pipeline for years.
• As per sources, the high-level meeting will be attended by
senior officials of the Ministry.
• If the acquisition is cleared in the meeting, the proposal
will be forwarded to the Defence Acquisition Council
headed by Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh

awardee Babasaheb Purandare passed away on
November 15, 2021, at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital

• In 2019, Babasaheb Purandare was honoured with
Padma Vibhushan. He was a celebrated author and a
historian and was known for his work on Chhatrapati
Shivaji Maharaj.
• Notably, Prime Minister Modi in August 2021 had
attended a function to mark Babasaheb Purandare
entering the 100th year of his life.
• The Prime Minister had also recalled Babasaheb

10. CBI, ED Directors' term extended up to 5 years
• The central government moved an ordinance on
November 14, 2021 proposing an extension of the
tenure of the CBI and ED Directors up to 5 years.
• The ordinance was promulgated after it received
President Ram Nath Kovind's assent.
• The centre's ordinance had sought three consecutive
one-year term extensions for the directors of CBI
and Enforcement Directorate.
• The current term of CBI and ED Chiefs is two years,
as per the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) Act,
2003.
• The centre is expected to table a law in Parliament
to replace the same.

December 6

visit India on December 6, 2021, for the Annual
Summit with PM Narendra Modi.
