2. DRDO, IAF jointly flight test indigenous
Long-range Bomb successfully
Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and
Indian Air Force (IAF) on October 29, 2021, jointly flight tested
indigenously developed Long-Range Bomb (LRB)
successfully from an aerial platform.
The LRB right after its launch guided to a land-based target at
a long-range with accuracy within specified limits. The launch
of LRB met all its mission objectives successfully.
The development came just a few days after the successful
launch of surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-5 that was in
line with India’s stated policy to have ‘credible minimum
deterrence’ that underpins the commitment to ‘No First Use’.

3. Prime Minister Modi in Italy: PM pays tribute to Mahatma
Gandhi, meets top EU leaders ahead of G20 Summit
Prime Minister Modi has reached Italy to attend the 16th G20
Summit which is scheduled to be held in Rome on October
30-31, 2021.
He will also pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his first day of
arrival in Rome and will also call on Pope Francis in the
Vatican during his two-day visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Rome and the
Vatican City from October 29 to October 31, 2021, at the
invitation of Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi.
After attending the G20 meet, Prime Minister will be in
Glasgow, United Kingdom, on November 1-2 for the COP26
meeting.
He will be visiting the country at the invitation of UK PM Boris
Johnson.

4. Puneeth Rajkumar passes away due to
cardiac arrest at 46
Puneeth Rajkumar, the Kannada actor, passed away on October 29,
2021, due to cardiac arrest. He was 46. Reportedly, Puneeth Rajkumar
was working out in the gym when he collapsed suddenly and was
rushed to the hospital immediately.
Later, Puneeth was admitted to Vikram Hospital and was receiving
treatment in the intensive care.
Puneeth Rajkumar, popularly known as the power star, was an
incredibly beloved superstar whose endeavours whose work as a film
producer too received tremendous appreciation from everyone. He
had recently wrapped up the shooting of 'James' with director Chethan
Kumar.
Puneeth Rajkumar's most recent release was 'Yuvarathnaa'.
Puneeth Rajkumar was the son of matinee idol Rajkumar. He was
fondly called 'Appu' by his fans. Puneeth started his career as a child
artist along with his father in the early 1980s.

5. 18th India-ASEAN Summit
Due to the COVID19 pandemic, all of us had to face a lot of challenges. This

6. Rajinikanth Health Update: Rajinikanth undergoes carotid artery
revascularisation, recovering well- medical bulletin
Rajinikanth successfully underwent a medical procedure
today and is recovering well, stated the official medical
bulletin from Kauvery Hospital on October 29, 2021.
The megastar was admitted to the hospital in Chennai on
October 28th following an episode of giddiness.
Kauvery Hospital released an official medical bulletin today
at 2.30 pm, which stated that Rajinikanth was thoroughly
evaluated and was advised to undergo Cartoid Artery
revascularisation.
The hospital confirmed that the procedure was performed
successfully.
Rajinikanth is likely to be discharged from the hospital after
few days, confirmed the medical bulletin.

7. Indian Navy launches 7th P1135.6 class frigate
INS Tushil in Russia
INS Tushil, the 7th Indian Navy Frigate of P1135.6 class was launched on
October 28, 2021, at Yantar Shipyard, Kaliningrad, Russia by Datla Vidya
Varma in the presence of Ambassador of India (Moscow) D Bala
Venkatesh Varma and other senior dignitaries of the Russian Federation
and Indian Navy officials.
During the ceremony, Datla Vidya Varma named the ship ‘Tushil’ which
is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Protector Shield’.
Tushil, the first of the two ships of the Project 1135.6 (also known as
Krivak or Talwar class stealth frigates) being built in Russia at Yantar
Shipyard for the Indian Navy under the IGA agreement was launched
from dry dock into the water.
These two ships that India is purchasing directly from Russia are
expected to be delivered by 2023. Of these two, INS Tishul has been
launched into waters at the Yantar Shipyard in Russia.

8. President Ram Nath Kovind to inaugurate
housing scheme in Gujarat today
President of India Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate a housing
scheme for economically weaker sections (EWS) at Bhavnagar,
Gujarat on October 29, 2021. President will also be visiting
Shree Chitrakutdham Ashram.
As per the press release by the President Secretariat, “The
President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind will visit Gujarat from
October 28 to 30, 2021.
On October 29, the President will inaugurate a Housing
Scheme Project for the economically Weaker Section at
Bhavnagar. He will also visit Shree Chitrakutdham, Ashram of
Morari Babu at Talgajarda in Bhavnagar district.”

9. Two shutters of Mullaperiyar dam opened,
Idukki district in Kerala on red alert
Two shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam were opened on October 29,
2021 following a rise in its water level. Idukki district in Kerala has
been put on red alert and people living downstream of the
Mullaperiyardam have been evacuated as a precautionary
measure.
The water is expected to reach the Idukki dam in a few hours.
The Mullaperiyar dam shutters were opened in the presence of
Kerala water resource minister Roshy Augustine and Revenue
minister K Rajan, who had gone to inspect the Mullaperiyar dam.
The two shutters- 3 & 4- were raised by 35 cms after sounding
three sirens. The dam has a total of 13 spillway shutters.

10. Odisha: ASI discovers the base of another temple on the
premises of Suka Sari Temple in Bhubaneshwar
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on October 27, 2021, discovered
the base of another temple on the premises of Suka-Sari Temple in the
old town area of Bhubaneshwar. ASI has been planning to excavate
towards the north-eastern side of the 10th-century temple complex to
unearth more of the partially exposed temple.
The Superintendent of the ASI’s Odisha Circle has said that the portion
that has been unearthed seems to be the base of the temple. It is too
early to tell the details about the remnants.
He added that it seems that the temple was older than the existing one
and was part of the Panchayatana model in which the temple was
surrounded by four temples. The superintendent informed that the ASI
has been planning to continue further excavation towards Bindu Sagar
Lake to get more details.

11. What is Facebook’s Metaverse?
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook's new name is
'Meta'. Zuckerberg made the announcement of the name change of
Facebook on October 28, 2021, during an annual Connect
conference.
The decision to rename Facebook to Meta is to showcase the
company's growing focus on Metaverse. In a similar feat, Google in
2015 had created Alphabet Inc as a holding company to house its
various ventures and establish itself as more than a search and
advertising business.
Facebook on October 18, 2021, had also announced its plan to hire
10,000 people in the European Union over the next five years to build
the Metaverse, a virtual reality version of the internet. Facebook CEO
Mark Zuckerberg has been mentioning Metaverse since July 2021. The
tech giant is looking forward work with governments across Europe to
hire the right people and find the right markets across the region.

12. Shaktikanta Das reappointed as RBI Governor
Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das been reappointed to the post for a term of
three years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his reappointment for a
period of three years beyond December 10, 2021 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Shaktikanta Das's current term was scheduled to end on December 10, 2021.
The reappointment will keep him at the bank's helm to aid recovery from the COVID-19
pandemic.
Shaktikanta Das was appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in December
2018 for a term of three years.
Under his leadership, the apex bank worked to support growth and keep the economy afloat by
maintaining liquidity through the worst pandemic the world has ever seen in the 21st century.
The RBI worked to take all the necessary measures to aid recovery during the pandemic
including slashing interest rates and pursuing quantitative easing.
