2. Centre launches first-ever DBT-Star College
Mentorship Programme
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science and
Technology Jitendra Singh on November 8, 2021, launched
the first-ever mentorship programme called the ‘DBT-Star
College Mentorship Programme’ for young innovators to mark
the 75th year of India’s Independence.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said that the central
government is taking numerous steps for promoting scientific
temper among the masses particularly youngsters by
strengthening scientific research and innovation efforts in India.
The DBT-Star College Mentorship Programme has been
launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology that will
help in embracing the concept of networking, hand-holding,
and outreach.

3. Tele-Law on Wheels campaign launched
The Union Ministry of Law and Justice launched the “Tele-Law
on Wheels” campaign on November 8, 2021.
The campaign has been launched as a part of the weeklong
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, which will continue till
November 14th.
Under the “Tele-Law on Wheels” campaign, a series of
activities will be undertaken to empower people through pre-
litigation advice to rightfully claim their entitlements and for
timely redressal of their difficulties.

4. Meghalaya Tribe women in mixed marriages
to lose inheritance rights?
The new bill tabled in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC)
stated that in case a Khasi woman, who has married a non-Khasi and has
adopted the customs of her husband will lose the right of inheritance.
A bill that aims at stripping Khasi women of their inheritance rights if they
adopt their non-tribal husbands’ customs and traditions was tabled in a
tribal council in matrilineal Meghalaya on November 8, 2021.
As per the bill brought in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council
(KHADC), the children of such mixed marriages will also lose their
inheritance rights if they follow their father’s customs.
On the first day of the new session of the KHADC, the Khasi Hills
Autonomous District (Khasi Inheritance of Property) Bill, 2021, was tabled
by Chief Executive Member Titosstar Well Chyne. The bill detailed the
rights of a Khasi woman and her children if she married outside the tribe.
The bill, if passed by the Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council and then
approved by the governor, will become a law applicable in the West Khasi
Hills, East Khasi Hills, and Ri Bhoi. These are the districts that come under
the jurisdiction of KHADC.

5. Delhi govt launches Shramik Mitra scheme
The Shramik Mitra scheme is an initiative by the Delhi Government to ensure that the
benefits of all government schemes reach construction workers in Delhi.
Under the scheme, around 800 Shramik Mitras will go door-to-door of all construction
workers in the national capital to make them aware of several government schemes in
the interest of the workers.
Under the Shramik Mitra scheme, approximately 800 Shramik Mitras will be appointed
by the government who will be given training under the programme.
These Shramik Mitras will work as District, Ward, and Vidhan Sabha level coordinators.
The Shramik Mitra scheme will appoint at least 3 to 4 Shramik Mitras across all
wards who will reach out to workers registered by the Construction Board at the ward
level.
The Shramik Mitras will also help workers in applying and availing process of the
benefits of these government schemes.
There are about 6 lakh construction workers in Delhi who have registered themselves
with the Construction Board through various registration campuses that were launched
by the CM Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government.

6. NASA: US Space agency announces new mission to
study storms, impacts on climate change
NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)
has selected a new Earth Science mission which will study
the behaviour of tropical storms and
thunderstorms, including their effect on the weather and
climate change.
The US Space Agency informed in a statement that the
mission will be a collection of three SmallSats, flying in
tight coordination.
It will be called Investigation of Convective Updrafts
(INCUS) and is expected to be launched in 2027 as part of
NASA’s Earth Venture Programme.

7. National Logistics Index - LEADS 2021: Gujarat
retains top spot, UP jumps 7 positions
Gujarat ranked 1st among 21 states on the national logistics index
2021 chart for its ‘well-developed infrastructure and services driven
by a responsive government’.
The logistics index chart released on November 8, 2021, in the
Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2021 report by
commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal assessed the logistics
efficiency of states in 2021.
Gujarat was ranked number one in the LEADS 2019 index as well.
There was no ranking in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On
the top ten states in LEADS 2021 report, Gujarat is followed by
Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Uttar Pradesh jumped seven places to rank 6th in LEADS 2021
compared to its 13th position in LEADS 2018 report. In the North-
Eastern States and Himalayan Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir
ranked at the top.
Among other Union Territories, Delhi ranked at the top position.

8. 4660 Nereus: Know all about Eiffel Tower-sized asteroid heading towards
Earth in December- is there a need to panic?
4660 Nereus: An asteroid the size of Eiffel Tower is heading
towards Earth in December, according to NASA.
The space agency confirmed that there is no need to panic as its
asteroid tracker says that the “potentially hazardous” rock will fly
by the Earth on December 11.
According to NASA, the asteroid called 4660 Nereus will be 2.4m
miles away from the Earth on December 11, which is a close pass
but distant enough to not hit the planet.
T4660 Nereus has been classified as a 'Potentially Hazardous
Asteroid' (PHA). It is scheduled to carry out 12 close passes to the
Earth in the coming decades.
As per researchers, we will have to get used to its presence and
that it is extremely unlikely for the asteroid to ever pose a threat
to the Earth.

9. COVID-19 Vaccine: Government places order for one crore
doses of Zydus Cadila’s needle-free covid vaccine
ZyCoV-D, the three-dose COVID vaccine of Zydus Cadila, is set to
be included in the national anti-Coronavirus inoculation
programme in November 2021 with the Central Government
placing a purchase order with the Ahmedabad-based firm for once
crore doses.
Reportedly, the Union Health Ministry has given the go-ahead to
initiate the preparatory work for the introduction of the
indigenously developed world’s first DNA based COVID-19 vaccine.
In all probability, the vaccine will be given to the adults initially
under India’s vaccination programme. The company officials have
conveyed to the Health Ministry that Zydus Cadila is in a position to
provide one crore doses of ZyCoV-D per month.

10. Covaxin to be added to UK's approved list of
vaccines from November 22
The United Kingdom has added India's Covaxin to its approved
Covid vaccines list.
The move will enable passengers fully vaccinated with Covaxin to
travel to the United Kingdom from November 22, 2021.
UK gave its go-ahead to India's indigenous Covid-19 vaccine
following World Health Organisation's (WHO) Emergency Use
Listing for Covaxin. Besides Covaxin, the United Kingdom will also
add China's Sinovac and Sinopharm to the country's approved
list of vaccines for inbound travellers.
UK's recognition of COVAXIN comes a day after Switzerland
added Covaxin to its list of approved Covid vaccines. Earlier, the
United States also allowed travellers vaccinated with Covaxin to
travel to the nation.

11. Kamal Haasan to launch digital avatar in
game-based metaverse
The actor, politician, producer, and director Kamal Haasan has
announced his plans to become the first Indian celebrity to have
his own digital avatar in a game-based metaverse.
Haasan who recently celebrated his 67th birthday on November
7, 2021, announced he will enter into digital space with the Non-
Fungible Tokens (NFTs) collection and later launch his personal
museum as well in an upcoming game-based metaverse from
Fantico.
“I am excited to explore the emerging intersection of the digital

12. Astronaut Wang Yaping becomes first
Chinese woman to walk in space
Astronaut Wang Yaping became the first Chinese woman to walk in
space on November 7, 2021, during her first extravehicular
operation on the Shenzhou-13 mission. 41-years-old Wang as a
crewmember of China’s Shenzhou-13 mission moved out of the
space station core module called Tianhe and carried out
extravehicular activities for over 6.5 hours along with her colleague
Zhai Zhigang. Wang marked the first spacewalk of a woman
astronaut in China’s space history.
Astronaut Wang along with her colleague astronaut Zhai Zhigang
went out of China’s Shenzhou-13 space station module Tianhe to
install equipment and conduct tests.
They successfully transferred connectors, installed a suspension
device, and returned to the module

13. India to host NSA-level regional dialogue on
Afghanistan on November 10
India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will hold bilateral talks with his
counterparts from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, ahead of the NSA-level
dialogue that will be hosted by India on Afghanistan on November 10,
2021.
The 'Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan' will witness
participation from the National Security Advisors of 7 countries including
Russia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazhakistan and
Kyrgyzstan.
The participating NSA's will also jointly call upon Indian PM Narendra
Modi.
India had invited Pakistan and China as well to participate in the meeting
but Pakistan has indicated through the media that it will not attend.
China has informed that it would be unable to attend due to a scheduling
issue but it is open for dialogue with India on Afghanistan multilaterally
and bilaterally. Pakistan has not attended any of the previous meetings of
this format.

14. UNESCO Creative Cities Network 2021: Srinagar joins the
list as ‘City of Craft and Folk Art’
Srinagar, in a major recognition of the arts and crafts of Jammu &
Kashmir, on November 8, 2021, joined the UNESCO Creative Cities
Network 2021, under the Crafts and Folk Arts category.
The result was announced on the official website of UNESCO wherein
49 cities have joined this elite list.
The exercise for the UNESCO nomination was started by Jammu &
Kashmir in 2018, however, the nomination was not accepted then.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated the people of Jammu & Kashmir
on this achievement. In a tweet, he said that he is delighted that
beautiful Srinagar has joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network
2021 with a special mention for its craft and folk art. He added that it
is the fitting recognition for the vibrant cultural ethos of Srinagar.

15. Delhi air quality: Delhi air quality improves to
very poor with AQI of 432
Delhi's air quality improved to 'very poor' from
'severe' category on November 9, 2021 with an
overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 372, informed
System of Air Quality & Weather Forecasting &
Research (SAFAR).
However, the smoke and haze continue to cover the
sky of the national capital. The Central Pollution
Control Board has suggested emergency measures to
tackle the air pollution in Delhi including as sprinkling
of water on roads, increasing the frequency of
mechanised cleaning of roads.
