India has successfully test-fired the Defence Research
and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed
indigenous technology cruise missile off the coast of
Balasore district in Odisha.
Reportedly, the missile flew for around 150 km with an
indigenous cruise engine.
More tests will also be conducted in the near future.
Earlier on July 23, 2021, India had also successful test-
fired the indigenously developed New Generation Akash
Missile (AKASH-NG) in Balasore, Odisha.
It was a Surface to Air Missile Defence System.

Maharashtra government announces
Rajiv Gandhi Award for excellence in IT sector
Maharashtra government announced on August 10, 2021 that it has
decided to introduce Rajiv Gandhi Award for firms that are excelling
in the Information Technology (IT) sector in the state.
The state government's resolution stated that the awards will be
conferred upon the firms for best work in the IT sector. The awards have
been named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The resolution stated that late Rajiv Gandhi had stressed on results-
oriented usage of Information technology and science technology for the
nation and the usage of science and technologies is the center point for
the social and economic development of the country.
Hence, it was decided that it would be composite to introduce an award
that would be named after Rajiv Gandhi.
The decision was taken during a meeting headed by the Minister of
State for Information and Technology in the Maharashtra government,
Satej Patil on July 7, 2021.

ISRO: Countdown for launch of GSLV-F10/EOS-03
satellite mission commences
Countdown for the launch of GSLV-F10/EOS-03 satellite
mission commenced on August 11, 2021, at 3.43 am IST from
Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota.
ISRO in a series of tweets informed that filling of the oxidizer and
propellant for the second stage (GS2) as well as the filling of
propellant for the liquid strap-on (L40) of the Geosynchronous
Satellite Launch Vehicle- F10 (GSLV-F10) has been completed.
Further updates are awaited from the Indian space agency.
The Geo-Imaging Satellite (GISAT-1) ‘EOS-03’ has been accorded
the status of India’s eye in the sky.
The satellite has been given a strategic and civilian importance as it
will aid India in monitoring areas of interest and provide real time
data while moving in sync with the rotation of the Earth unlike other
remote sensing satellites that only cover areas at regular intervals.

Vinesh Phogal temporarily suspended by
Wrestling Federation of India for indiscipline
Vinesh Phogat, India's star wrestler has been
temporarily banned by the Wrestling Federation of
India (WFI) for indiscipline during her Tokyo
Olympics campaign.
The Wrestling Federation of India issued a notice to
Vinesh on August 10, 2021 announcing the
temporary ban on three charges, most importantly
for a breach of contract. Vinesh Phogat has been
given time until August 16 to reply to the notice.
The Wrestling Federation of India has also issued
notice to Sonam Malik for misconduct.

Project Lion: Gujarat seeks Rs. 2,000 crores from Central Government
The Government of Gujarat has sought the
assistance of Rs. 2,000 crores from the Central
Government for Project Lion. As per a senior
government official, the request is under active
consideration for approval.
Project Lion was announced by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on August 15, 2020. It is to be
modeled on Project Elephant and Project Tiger.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani, while
participating in an event organized by the State

Covaxin and Covishield vaccines. Dr V K
Paul, Niti Aayog Member informed during a
press briefing that permission has been

(Tamil Nadu) on mixing of vaccines doses.
A study conducted by the Indian Council of
Medical Research (ICMR) previously revealed
that the combination of Covaxin and

Landslide in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh: Over 40 people feared
buried under debris, 4 people rescued so far
Several people are feared to be buried
after a landslide in Himachal Pradesh's
Kinnaur trapped several vehicles under
the debris including a Himachal Road
Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus
carrying over 40 passengers.
The landslide reportedly occurred on
Reckong Peo- Shimla Highway at around

Taliban captures eighth Afghan provincial city, gets closer to
Kabul; Biden rules out change in troop withdrawal
The Taliban on August 10, 2021 captured the eighth provincial
capital in Afghanistan, Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan
province in the north. The city fell as the pro-government
militias retreated to the Afghan army's largest base in the
Kelagi desert.
The Taliban had already gained control over six provincial
capitals, mostly in the north of Afghanistan- Kunduz, Taluqan
city, Sheberghan, Zaranj and Aybak, capital of Samangan
province. In their latest advances, the Taliban seized two more
provincial capitals - Farah city and Pul-e-Khumri.
The Taliban militants had reportedly raised their flag in the main
square and on the governor's office in Pul-e-Khumri. Pul-e-
Khumri's fall along with the fall of western provincial capital city
Farah mark the latest developments in the Taliban's weeklong
relentless offensive in the wake of the withdrawal of US and
NATO troops from war-torn Afghanistan.

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns in ICU
Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns is on life
support in an intensive care unit at St. Vincent’s
Hospital in Sydney after he suffered an aortic
dissection in the heart last week.
As per media reports, 51-year-old Cairns suffered an
aortic dissection, wherein a tear occurs in the inner
layer of the body’s main artery (aorta), in Canberra last
week.

Lok Sabha passes 127th Constitution Amendment Bill
Lok Sabha on August 10, 2021, passed the Constitution
(127th Amendment) Bill, 2021, unanimously.
The bill was passed in the Lower House of Parliament with
more than two-third majority of the house strength as well as
the members present in the house.
The legislation aims at restoring the power of the States and
the Union Territories to make their own OBC list.
During the division of the votes, 385 members in Lok Sabha
voted in the favour of the bill, and none were against it.
The Central Government on August 9, 2021, had introduced
a key constitution amendment bill in Lok Sabha that
seeks to restore the state’s power to make their own OBC
lists.
The Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill, 2021, was
introduced by the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister
Virendra Kumar.

Hariyali Teej 2021
Hariyali Teej 2021: The month of Sawan brings with it
several auspicious festivals which are celebrated by the
Hindu community all over the country and Hariyali Teej is
essentially observed in the Indian States of Uttar Pradesh,
Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
Hariyali Teej festival was observed on August 11 and is
celebrated with colorful bangles, songs, mehendi,
swings, and of course food.
Hariyali Teej is a part of the three teejs, which are celebrated
by married women during the Sawan months. The other two
are Hartalika Teej and Kajari Teej.
In some of the states in India, hariyali Teej is also called
Sawan Teej as the festival takes place during the monsoon
season. Hariyali or greenery also signifies the time when the
Indian farmers sow their crops.
