FS #2- Episode 3 : Organizing Content for Meaningful Learning
OBSERVATION SHEET
A. For the Cognitive Lesson
The lesson is all about Simple Tenses of the Verb. There are three simple tenses of
verb; namely simple past tense, simple present tense, and simple future tense.
The teacher gave example sentences every tense of verb. The teacher also emphasized
that every tense has specific function and use every sentence. Also, she emphasized that
the verb must agree with the subject in a sentence.
The lesson end with understanding the concepts with the use of facts given by the
teacher in the sense that she used the inductive method wherein it starts in giving various
examples that lead to building the students’ mind to come up with the concept.
The teacher gave examples to elaborate more and make the students internalize the
lesson. The teacher really gave unlimited sentences in order for the students to formulate
their own basing it from her examples.
The students are free to ask questions and doubts relevant to the topic. In fact, the
teacher herself asked the students if they have questions or queries.
B. For the Skills Lesson
The skill lesson was about the students’ accuracy in using appropriate tense of verb in
a sentence and to construct sentences by their own. Thinking skills was the target of the
lesson.
The teacher employed questions to the students so that the students could understand
more. Also, teacher let the students feel free to ask questions and answer doubts to ensure
that they really understood the lesson.
The proof that the teacher promoted convergent thinking was her successive demand
for the students to formulate sentences by their own.
I haven’t observed problem solving along the lesson.
A concrete proof that the students were encouraged to do critical thinking was when
she gave an example and let the students formulates the rule.
C. Values/Affective Lesson
The value lesson was about appreciation. Learn to reflect from the past, live at the
present and prepare for the future.
Value was taught with cognitive and skill lesson. Value could be taught once we got
through the cognitive and skill lesson.
The value lesson was developed by the teacher through letting the students thought of
the past, the present as well as the future. It is more on appreciating life and live life to
the fullest.

My Analysis
A. For the Cognitive Lesson
The teacher had presented the lesson through showing a picture, in which aroused the
attention that made them interested and willing to listen and learn. The teacher also was
willing to entertain questions and doubts in order to polish the learning of the students.
B. For the Skills Lesson
The Resource Teacher engaged the students into activities which could really arouse
and sustain their interest. A concrete example was when the teacher asked them to
construct sentences using the appropriate tense of verb to write in the board which was
based on their experiences in life. Thru, it made the lesson meaningful.
C. Values/Affective Lesson
It is impossible to teach value lesson without any cognitive basis because once you
teach the cognitive lesson, here comes after the value lesson. A lesson will not be
complete without passing or touching first the cognitive basis then the value lesson after.
I agree because in every objective, the affective domain comes last. Once you taught
the cognitive domain, you can teach the skill domain and this leads to effectively
teaching the affective domain. I believe you cannot teach the affective domain if you do
not teach the preceding domains. You cannot let the students appreciate the lesson if you
will not let them understand and apply it in reality.

My Reflections
I agree with the quotation because I believe subjects are created by those highly
intelligent ones who are concerned with the education of the students and youths. Is
focuses on the students’ benefits. There are dull teachers since no man is perfect, there
are dull textbook since there are books created which are nonsense and useless, there are
dull films because films are either good or bad. There are no such subjects that deteriorate
one’s intellect.
In organizing our subject matter, it should be valued oriented or value based so
that out teaching will always be fresh and interesting. Fresh in the sense that human’
attitudes are hard to teach and the fact that values integration takes place gradually.
Interesting since humans are sensitive and would likely to give much attention on values
matters. A subject matter should be value lesson based since once there are changes with
our students, it only proves that they have understood and internalized the topic.
