3.  R.E.M is an American rock
band which formed in the 80’s.
The band is made up of:
 Lead Singer- Michael Stripe
 Guitarist- Peter Buck
 Bassist- Mike Mills
 Drummer- Bill Berry
 R.E.M is one of the first popular alternative rock bands.
 R.E.M had much underground success but made it in the
mainstream market with the single “The One I Love” in
1987.
 The Group signed with Warner Bros. Records around a year
later
 R.E.M then began to address enviromental and political
subjects.
 R.E.M is seen as a pioneer of the Alternative Rock Genre.

 Nirvana is regarded as one of the most important
rock bands of the modern age and is seen as quite
influential.
 Nirvana established itself at the begining of their
career as a part of the grunge scene, however they
would develop their sound and were influenced by
successful rock bands such as R.E.M, therefore their
music could also be seen as Alternative rock.
 Have sold 75 Million record worldwide and is
considered one of the best selling bands of all time.

 The band was made up of:

 Guitarist- Johnny Marr
 Bassist- Andy Rourke
 Drummer- Mike Joyce
 Considered one of the most important British
Alternative Rock Bands in the 1980’s music scene by
critics.
 Q Magazine’s Simon Goddard said that The Smiths
were: ‘the one truly vital voice of the 80’s’.
 NME named them one of the most influential artist
ever, beating world regarded bands such as The
Beatles in a 2002 poll.
 The band broke up in 1987.

influential part in the band’s songs and
direction.
