Question 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. I have stuck to conventions of a magazine as I have followed certain rules that
every magazine does. Nearly all magazines have the masthead at the top
of the page, which I have followed. This makes it easy for the reader to see
the name of the magazine and want to read it. I have used a consistent
colour scheme throughout my magazine, using the same font. This created
a house style. I have used coverlines, and put a barcode and date on the
magazine. This again, is following conventions of a magazine. I have stuck
to the stereotypical pink theme for a teenage girls magazine, in order to
attract the correct audience. Throughout my contents page, I have stuck to
conventions as again, the masthead is across the top, there are pictures of
the people who feature in the magazine on the contents page, and of
course it tells the reader what page everything is on. Finally, my double
page spread. I have stuck to conventions of a pop magazine as there is an
image of the artist on one of the pages. The interview then is on the other
page, the font is coloured and girly in order to attract the target audience
and finally the page number at the bottom allows the reader to know
what page they’re on.
3. Both of the magazines have the
masthead across the top of the
magazine cover. This allows the
audience to know what magazine
they’re buying.
Both magazines have the strapline
across the bottom of the page. This
gives the reader an insight as to what
will be in the magazine.
Both of the magazines have cover
lines, either side of the page this
allows the reader again to know
what else will be in the magazine.
Both magazines have a barcode and
price on them, this allows the reader
to know how much it costs.
Both magazines have a main cover
line, this allows the reader to know
what is on the double page spread.
4. Both of the magazines have the title
of the magazine on the contents
page. They both tell the reader that
it is the contents page, this allows
the reader to know what is on the
page.
Both magazines have images of what
will be in the magazine, this allows
the reader to know what will feature
in the magazine without them having
to read every word.
Both magazines tell the reader what
page certain articles are on. This
allows the reader to skip to the
article they wish to read.
Both magazines have page numbers,
this allows the reader to know how
far into the magazine they are.
Both magazines use rule of thirds.
They also stick to the same colour
scheme. This creates a House style
that is maintained throughout the
whole magazine.
5. The page has used rule
of thirds, this means
that the text is alot
easier to read and the
columns are spaced
well so that the reader
is easily able to read
the article.
Both magazines use an
opening paragraph to
introduce who they
article is about. This
allows the reader to
quickly decide if they
want to read the
article or not.
Both magazines have
used a main image.
This allows the reader
to know who the
article is about at first
glance.
