2. IPC Media
IPC would be an appropriate publisher for new magazines because
throughout the revolving around music they would most likely
choose a genre that years they have targeted different audiences so
they clearly know how to target a particular audience. An example
of this is ‘Golf Monthly’ and ‘Woman’ these are two different target
audiences, one focusing on middle aged men and the other focusing
on middle aged women, from this it is clear that IPC have the
required expertise, this is also evident because IPC have been in
business since 1853.
If IPC were to publish a magazine has a clear target audience for
example ‘Music’ this would deal with the classical musical genre, the
reason why IPC would be likely to publish this magazine is because
the target audience is clear and easy to appeal to, plus it Is not as
big as other genres of music which is another reason why IPC might
be likely to publish this magazine, this is evident because in the
past and currently they have the tendency to publish magazines
with a small audience, this is evident from magazines like ‘Yachting
Monthly’.
3. Bauer
Bauer would be an appropriate alternative to IPC because like IPC it has had
a very long history in the publishing business, starting in 1875 and still
running; it sells 38 million magazines weekly which shows that they are a
very successful publisher.
They also show they know how to appeal to a certain target audience.
Bauer targets a range of different target audiences, it also owns various
magazines including ‘Grazia’ Heat’ and the well known FHM magazine.
FHM is the biggest lifestyle magazine in the UK and it is mostly aimed at
young male adults and middle aged men. Heat on the other hand is a
magazine that focuses on gossip, fashion and celebrity news; they target
young female adults but also has audiences such as middle aged women
and young teenagers.
Grazia is an Italian magazine also focusing on celebrity news and gossip
and it has similar audiences to heat magazine. These magazines show
that Bauer Is a successful publishing company as these are very well
known and popular magazines that the public have a high demand for,
this also shows that they have the knowledge on different techniques on
how to lure their target audience towards the magazine and persuade
them to purchase; this is why I feel Bauer would be an appropriate
alternative publisher.
4. Conclusion
To conclude I believe that Bauer would be the most suitable
publisher for my magazine because it has published more
magazines aimed at the younger generation, an audience I
am targeting. Their knowledge and experience would be
invaluable to me and my magazine because they would
know exactly what to do.
Another reason I choose Bauer over IPC because IPC Media
have published many magazines for small audiences, of
course this shows great knowledge and passion for a
specific topic, but the downside to this is a small amount of
sales and that is something I want to refrain from. I want a
big mainstream magazine that brings revenue and income,
not a product for a select few.
Also they have been operating for over a century now, this
shows serious skill and talent and to be active now in the
present day, I am convinced Bauer are my best choice.
