1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
2. Referring back to my IPC case study work from a previous lesson, IPC media have a very big range of different magazine genres that they publish. For example Marie Claire, Horse and Hound, TV times, Rugby world and Homes and Gardens etc, from these examples you can tell that IPC cover all different genres within their media institution. IPC have different divisions that appeal to different genders, for example in the men's portfolio there is country life, Horse and Hound, Nuts, Mousebreaker and NME etc. In there mass market women's division, Look, Now, TV times and Goodtoknow etc. Also there is a upmarket women's division which involve magazines such as, Marie Claire, InStyle, Essentials and Ideal home etc. I feel that my media product would fill a gap in there mass markets women division as my magazine will appeal to girls/women and will most probably not appeal to people in the upmarket women's division as this involves magazines that involve home and essentials etc.
3. NME is another magazine which is published by IPC media, which is music magazine that “reaches over one million people every week” and “most respected music weekly in the world”, by these quotes magazines such as NME would be very hard to compete with. Also because NME is very well known and not only does it have a magazine it has a popular website too, which has grown to become Europe's most successful music website with over 4 million users across the globe.
4. Why my media product is suitable for IPC media. My media product could possibly fill a gap within IPC media and they could possibly distribute my media product because although it is a similar product to NME, NME is placed in the mens portfolio so it is aimed at mostly men, whereas my magazine is mostly aimed at girls/women. It would be very different in attracting audiences, as we are aimed at different groups which could give IPC media an opportunity to attract a different audience group. Also I feel that NME is a very popular magazine so therefore would be a hard magazine to compete with, but being within the same institution it would not be about competition, it would be about attracting a different audience and I feel that my magazine will be able to do this and sit along side NME bringing in a different group of people.
