2. WORKING TITLE
• In Sync - This title links to music due to singers being in sync whilst preforming. I think this
title would suit a pop music magazine whereas I would like to do an indie music magazine, so
therefore I don’t think that it is effective. In Sync can be linked to younger people as they all
use social media to keep in contact with each other.
• Curve! – I chose this name as its very simple to read and it grabs the readers attention. The
exclamation mark suggests to the reader that the magazine is interesting and exciting to
read. Curve is quite a feminine word so this could be mostly aimed at young/middle aged
women.
• Expose – I think this title is quite simple but still effective. Expose means making an exposure
or a revelation of something discreditable, which is what will happen when the magazine is
launched onto the market. This title is aimed at the media as in can link to exclusives stories
coming out. It is also gender neutral as it isn’t aimed at a particular gender or age. However
this is also a bit ambiguous.
3. GENRE OF THE MAGAZINE
Indie – The genre I would like to use for my magazine would be indie. Id like to use this as I think it
is one of the most common genres of music that are out there, with the largest amount of bands
and artist included within it.
A lot of young people like this genre due to the unique content of it, I would like to aim my
magazine at a young audience, so I therefore think this is a good genre to use.
4. PUBLICATION PATTERN
Monthly – I’ve chosen to have my magazine come out once a month. I chose this as from my
research people didn’t tend to buy magazines more than once a month, so this fits in with my
target audience. Also by releasing it once a month, it means I can get the most up to date news in
it which the readers will be interested and engaged by.
Price – The price of my magazine will be £2.50 as most people that completed my survey would
spend between £2 to £3 on a music magazine. I chose to go in the middle of this price range as I
can still include lots of detail, without the price being too upmarket. You can subscribe to the
magazine for £10 which is a saving of £20, which includes a year supply of the magazine. People
may chose to do this to save money, they are able to be continually updated and some people
may want to start a collection with the magazine.
5. READER PROFILE
• Reader Profile – The readers of my magazine are quite upmarket, with readers having quite
high disposable incomes with them spending money on gigs, clothing or on family and
friends. The average reader is a student, however the average reader falls between the ages
of 16 and 25 years old. Readers who purchase this magazine like indie music such as Foals,
Two Door Cinema Club etc, but also like artists such as Adele and Beyoncé.
• Key stats –
Male – 41%
Female – 59%
Median age – 21
Student – 75%
6. STYLE, ATTITUDE & MISSION STATEMENT
The name of my magazine will be called Exposé, which is an indie magazine for new and
upcoming bands with the ultimate guide to new music. The magazine will be mostly aimed at
students aged 16 and above, male and female. I’ve decided to do an indie magazine for new
bands as I think there is a slight gap in the market for this genre. The magazine will be sold
monthly meaning that the best and most interesting information can be put in which will
intrigue the reader. The magazine will be £2.50, which is a reasonable price for what it includes.
Exposé will be sold in supermarkets, newsagents and the music store HMV. Readers can also
subscribe to the magazine from the website which means they can get the magazine for a
cheaper price.
The magazine will feature competitions which can result in wining free downloads or even free
tickets to a gig. This can encourage people to be more involved in the magazine. The topics
featured in the magazine will be profiles on the new and upcoming bands, the top 40 songs of
that month, fashion tips and interviews with bands. There will be a youthful feel to this magazine
due to it being aimed at students, so they will want something engaging to read. The style of
this magazine is youthful, vibrant and informal meaning a wide range of people are able to read
