What kind of media
institution might
distribute your media
product and why?
By Kiera Garrison
Distribute
• I think that my magazine would be distributed in many different ways because it would be
sold within the UK which would make it very popular because what I know of there are only
a couple of R&B magazine sold which gives me the conclusion of my magazine being
popular within the UK. I would sell my magazine in different shopping centres such as
Tesco and Morrisons because these places they have there own section in the isles which has
many different magazines and people go there every single day to do food shopping which
means that people would pass this isle and if they see a new magazine that is of a popular
genre it would mean that many people would buy it. I also think that this magazine should be
sold in HMV, this is because this shop is a music store which has all the latest cd’s (so it
links in with the music industry) so by selling my magazine within this store would mean
that people would buy it because it is about popular R&B artists. I also think that it would
lead to a positive outcome if I sold my magazine in WHSmith because this place sells all
sorts of stuff including a lot of things for people in education. This would mean that the
social group of this magazine would go to this shop to get things for
school/college/university and if they see this magazine they would be interested in it as it
would be something new to their eyes and these sort of people like to have the newest
things.
Price & Frequency
• I have chosen the price of my magazine to be £3.15. This is because of the
amount of pages it has which is 92 not including the advertising pages. Also
because of the amount of magazine that already being sold, I feel that by having a
reasonable cost then it will be a good competitor towards the other popular
magazines. I think that this price would fit with this audience as they are still in
education so by having at a high price they will pick a magazine with a lower
price that they can afford.
• The frequency of this magazine is also why the price is £3.15 because it is a
monthly magazine so it would mean that there would be a lot more for them to
read about. If the magazine was a weekly magazine the price would be about
£2.00 so by having it as a monthly magazine then they would be saving money
which is what students want to do.
• This would fit in with their lifestyle as they wouldn’t have to remember every
week to go to the shop and buy it, they would only have to go once a month
which would be a positive thing for students as they might not have time every
week to go and get it so if they forget to buy one they may think that they’ve
missed one so there is no point in reading the follow on.
Promotion
• Promotion is a positive way to distribute a magazine, as if there is no promotion
then not many people will know about the magazine and if they see it in the shop
they might not want to stand there and see what it is about, they will pick up their
usual magazine. So by promoting my magazine through the TV and websites
which is a type of technology that my target audience would be using the most.
• By having a website, it gives the readers chance to see a lot more of what they
magazine is about. On the website there would be video clips of some of the artist
songs, competitions that you would sign up over the internet rather than through
the magazine as it would save a lot more time and it would have videos from
interviews that the magazine do with all their artists and a lot more.
• By promoting the magazine on music channels, such as Massive R&B, would
also be good for the magazine as the channel would be playing some of the artists
that are in this magazine so the target audience would be interested to find out
more about these artists which would mean that there would be a lot more
magazine brought.
