3. TOPIC RESEARCH – CAR
GRAPHICS
Car graphics are the designs that are placed on the car
using certain materials such as wrap or stickers. These
are done using specific tools and techniques to make
sure that the wrap is placed on correctly and meets
the client's standards.
Graphics on vehicles are seen on a day-to-day
basis on buses, vans, trucks and airplanes to
advertise big brand companies like Tesco, Morrisons,
Iceland, Easyjet also cinema releases for the Vue, even
small businesses put their logo and names on their
vehicles. These go through the same application
process as cars, the only slight difference is that
putting graphics on buses, trucks and areoplanes will
be done at height. This will be done at a larger scale
and possibly outdoors as they are very large and tall
vehicles as oppose to cars which can be put in a
garage undercover.
However, graphics can also be easily removed using a
specific tool such as a plastic scraper to lift the edges
and then the wrap can easily be pulled off.
4. TOPIC RESEARCH – TYPES OF WRAP
There are a certain types of wrap that can be placed on the car which come
in certain colours. Designs and colours can depend on the supplier and how
much stock they have available.
The different types of wrap that are used on cars are: matte, gloss, satin,
chrome, custom, brushed and cut out shape. Each of these wraps come in
certain colours which are shown in the colour scheme on the right.
Gloss Wrap - is a wrap that resembles classic paintwork because the finish
look is smooth and glossy just like fresh paint on a car. This wrap is practically
available in every colour and available with metallic flakes in the wrap.
Satin Wrap – is glossier than matte, but not completely glossy like gloss wrap.
In the satin wrap you don’t see a clear reflection as you would with the gloss
wrap, but you will see more light reflected than a matte wrap.
Matte Wrap – will show very little reflection. Availability is limited on this
wrap and is not widely used.
5. Brushed Wrap – there are two types of wrap in this form:
• a wrap with the brushed texture,
• a wrap with a print of a brushed material.
A brushed texture will look more authentic this is because it will have much less of a sharp reflection (which is typical for the
brushed look).
Carbon Wrap – again there are two types of wrap in this form, both of which can be made glossy:
• a wrap with carbon texture in and on it
• a wrap with the looks of carbon printed on
Custom Print Wrap – a custom print can have any image printed on the wrap. This can be things like a flag, a comic character,
text, a certain type of material or effect etc. These can be made to look like matte or gloss wrap.
Cut Out Shape – often referred to as decal or stickers but are essentially the same as a car wrap. A machine cuts out a certain
shape from the vinyl wrap. The shape is then applied on the surface in a similar way to applying wrap.
However, there can be quite a big difference in quality between the different wraps and different manufactures. Some wraps
aren't very glossy and can show huge amounts of orange peel. Other wraps may not stick well to the surface underneath or may
suffer greatly from UV damage.
It can be worthwhile investing and researching for a recommended excellent quality wrap manufacturer as cheap wrap can be
damaged easily, may not last and not look very good quality. A cheap wrap can suffer from bubbles that are hard to remove,
leaves residue after removal or is so thin that it can tear when applying. The brands that have a very good reputation are likely to
cost more however, you'll achieve a better effect for longer and with less problems unlike cheap wrap.
6. TOPIC RESEARCH – TOOLS USED TO APPLY WRAP
There are a range of tools that are used to apply car wrap on a vehicle. These are:
• Heat gun
• Squeegee
• Cutting blade
• Cutting tape
• Cleaning solution
• Measuring tape
• Gloves
• Infrared thermometer
Each one of these plays a role in making sure the wrap is applied to the car correctly. The experience of the person who will
apply the wrap is very important, if they don't have enough experience then the wrap may not look good or stay on. This
will then cause the visual experience of what the wrap looks like to be poor and the wrap may not last long.
If the wrapper has many years of experience, they are more likely to understand a customer's requirements, know what
looks good and not so good and achieve great results.
7. TOPIC RESEARCH -
FANZINES
When thinking about this project I plan to use
a variety of software but mainly Photoshop.
This is because a fanzine concentrates on
the visual aspect. When creating
my fanzine, it needs to look appealing for my
target audience and it needs to stand out
from current fanzines.
As well as Photoshop I will look to use similar
software such as Gimp etc. This is because I
will have limited software available due
to doing this project from home. These
specific software are made purely for print
based projects such as a fanzine, posters etc.
I must make sure everything goes smoothly
otherwise this project could get effected
massively and could affect my final gradefor
the year.
8. TOPIC RESEARCH - FANZINE
Also, when considering this project there are a lot of things, I need to look at
such as fonts, structure, information, colours etc. But I will also need to
understand what a fanzine is to help me get a rough idea on what I will be
creating.
A fanzine is a small magazine/ brochure which is created by fans, it isn't a
publication of any type, it is purely a small magazine anyone can create on
any topic. When thinking about my research I need to look at
the layout/structure of each page of a fanzine that is close to the topic I plan
to look at.
The sources I plan to use are examples of fanzine such as this example on the
right. I plan to use a similar layout because I think that it makes the fanzine
look engaging and appealing to the audience. I also plan to make
the information that I include in the fanzine engaging as I know from reading
a magazine or brochures myself with too much information can be quite
boring.
I will also make sure to include informative pages like this example as I think
that it looks organized, but it also makes the images and information relevant
to each other . It also gives the information related to the topic which
the audience might not know and find it interesting
9. TOPIC RESEARCH – FANZINE
For the front cover of my project, I plan to use a simple
design like this example on the left that I did for my last
project. This is because most fanzines have quite a basic
background with a title just saying what the fanzines about. It
doesn’t exactly go into a lot of detail on the front page, this is
because it's trying to keep the audience curious and
interested in reading the fanzine itself.
Overall, I think if I include relevant information, a lot of
images and lay it out correctly I think it will become engaging
and appealing for my target audience.
However, the context will be about cars and different
designs. This is because it is based around something, I have
an interest in and hoping to have a career in this area.
10. TOPIC RESEARCH –
PROMOTIONAL VIDEO
When thinking about this project I need to consider what would
be the best way to advertise and promote a fanzine in a video. So,
when doing some research, I found this example for a
construction magazine.
The way it promoted the magazine looked good because it didn’t
drag on like some do, it was a 35 second video and was enough
time to capture people's attention. When thinking about making a
video I need to know how long the video should last and this
would be a good example.
This video is useful in another way because it shows the context
of the magazine and talks about whats within different pages of
the magazine. So, when thinking about creating my promotional
video I will take this example into consideration and create it in a
similar way. So that the video is short and straight to the point,
but also keeps the target audience interested.
12. MARKET RESEARCH -
MAGAZINE
When looking at this existing product of a car
magazine. It uses a variety of colours that are
mainly bright colours. This is because it wants
to grab the audience's attention and the way
car magazines do it is to use lots of bright
colours like this example.
However, on this example it has filled the
page with a lot of images and text. This is
because it's trying to promote everything in
the magazine on the front page, but this can
put readers off looking further into the
magazine because it is telling you everything
at the front.
Unlike a fanzine where it keeps you curious on
the front page as there is limited information
on there and you will need to read further to
get more details
When thinking about my fanzine I may use
bright colours because it's another way to
grab the audience's attention.
13. MARKET RESEARCH - MAGAZINE
This magazine on the right uses bright colour like the last magazine
but uses them in a slightly different way. This is because it uses a
similar layout to a fanzine, with a basic bold title and an image or
two.
When comparing the two magazines I prefer this one to the first one
this is because I think with this one there doesn't seem to be so
much crammed on the front page and leaves you curious due to the
limited amount of information on there.
Thinking about my fanzine, I plan to use a variety of bright colours to
help make it stand out but also make the front page look basic and
engaging for my target audience.
14. MARKET RESEARCH -
LOGOS
Looking at the logo of this car graphic company
on the left, it is very basic, and it doesn’t use
bright colours. In fact, it only uses three colours
which are quite dull.
I believe it has been done this way as the logo
doesn’t want to be seen as complicated, but
just as simple.
The company will be looking for its name to
stand out and the best way to do that is to be
simple and basic.
15. MARKET RESEARCH – LOGOS
Looking at this logo on the right, the logo itself is basic and
nothing fancy. However, it does have more of a range of
colours compared to the first logo.
The wording in the logo is basic information, the name of
the company, the type of company it is, and this is
demstrated through the name of the company itself.
By doing it basic and with simple details it makes the
company name and logo stand out and most importantly
people know what type of company iit is (design and print
graphics).
16. Taking a looking at this website for car
graphics, straight away it says what it does as
company in bold white font. This is straight to the
point and will grab their audience's attention.
However, the website uses a lot of dull colours such
as black and a dark pink which may not come across
visually appealing to some especially for a graphics
company you would think that being visual is
important. There is also a lot of information put on
there, however this is lost due to the background it
does not stand out.
The name of the company is put in the top left
corner and does look at bit more fancy writing and
appealing to the eye.
MARKET RESEARCH -
WEBSITES
17. MARKET RESEARCH -
WEBSITES
Another website on the right has a range of dull and
bright colours. This is probably to try and grab their
audience's attention using colours and layout rather
than just text.
However, by doing this, visually the colours used
seemed to make the information on there to stand out
less which in turn won't come across very appealing to
audiences.
Within this website they do have a slideshow on the
home page of what services they do. This is useful for
their customers and their target audience as it gives a
brief description of what the company do.

19. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - SURVEY OUTLINE
For the start of my audience research, I will be creating a survey using survey monkey and send a link to selected people to get a
rough overview of my target audience and what there opinion is based on the questions below:
• Age
• Gender
• Own a car or not?
• Do you like car wrap/ graphics?
• Do you have any graphics on your car ?
• Do you have any modifications on ur car or not?
• How often do you read a brochure?
• What information would you like to see on a car wrap brochure?
• Do you prefer bold bright colours, dull colours or a range of colours on a brochure?
• What types of car graphics/ style would you be interested in?
21. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - SURVEY RESULTS (AGE)
Observation:
Looking at the results for age, 6 out of 15 people were within the under 18 age group. This is then followed
closely by 5 out of 15 people being in the 35-50 age group. This then had 2 people in each of the 18-24 and
25-34 group.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that there is a variety of age groups from young teens to adults. This gives me a better
understanding of what age groups would be interested in a brochure and graphic.
How will I appeal to this audience:
My project will have information and images suitable for people within these age groups and to help keep
them interested.
23. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (GENDER)
Observation:
11 people who completed the survey were male. This is then meant that the remaining 4 people were female.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that there is obviously more male than female, which I expected for a car graphics brochure project.
But it also narrows it down to help me get a better idea of who my audience is, there is a reasonable number of
females to be able to aim this brochure at both genders.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include designs and colours that are suitable for male and female, so that none of the genders
feel singled out.
25. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (OWN A CAR)
Observation:
The results show that most of the people 9 out of 15 people own a car . Leaving 6 people not having a car.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that a majority own a car but looking at the age and gender results most of them are young male
drivers. It is then more likely that they will mostly be into anything related to cars.
However, I do feel that there was a reasonable amount of females as well. Both genders maybe into anything
related to cars. They may want to have graphics on their car, but money can be a factor.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include designs for all types of cars and that are suitable for all genders and will also consider
costs.
27. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (LIKE CAR
GRAPHICS/WRAP)
Observation:
53.33% of people said that they liked car graphics/wrap with a percentage of 53.33%. With 46.67% of people not
liking car graphics.
What does this say about my audience
This shows me that even though most people like car graphics/wrap it was very close with almost an equal
number not liking it. This may be because they purely have no interest in designs for their car and are just happy
with the basic paint job. Some people may not be able to afford car wrap and therefore may feel that there is no
point being interested. Or possibly they are just not interested in cars or don't have a car at all.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include information that will be relevant, think about different financial situations. Try to
ensure my designs and information is appealing to get the audience's attention.
28. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (DO YOU
HAVE ANY WRAP/GRAPHICS ON YOUR CAR)
29. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (DO YOU
HAVE ANY WRAP/GRAPHICS ON YOUR CAR)
Observation:
Looking at the results not many people have car graphics on their vehicle. This may be because they can't afford it
or simply don’t want to do anything to their car.
However, there was one person that skipped this question this might because they didn’t understand the question
or skipped in error.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that not many people have car wrap/graphics on their vehicle but do like the idea of having car
graphics/ wrap on their car.
This maybe down to financial circumstances or they may like the idea of car graphics on their car but not quite
know where to start.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include reasonable pricing in the fanzine each design so that it will help interest my audience a
bit more in car graphics and the car culture overall.
31. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (HAVE ANY
MODIFICATIONS ON YOUR CAR)
Observation:
Looking at these results 73.33% of people don't have modifications like spoilers or body kit on their car.
However, 26.67% do have modifications to their car.
What does this say about my audience
Most people that don’t have modifications on their car may be because they don’t have the time, money or
prefer to leave the car the same way as they bought it.
However, there is a reasonable amount of people who do have modifications. What would have been interesting
to know is what modifications they did have.
How will I appeal to this audience:
In my brochure I will make sure to include designs that are suitable for all cars with and without modifications.
33. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (HOW
OFTEN DO YOU READ A BROCHURE)
Observation:
Most people only read a brochure once a month, with a percentage of 86.67% which is 13 people out of the 15
that answered the question. However, there was a couple of people that said they either read a brochure every
day or a few times a week.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that not many people read brochures on a regular basis but do read them once a month. This may
be because they don’t have time or simply find them boring.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include information and designs that will help interest the audience.
34. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT INFO
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON A CAR WRAP BROCHURE)
35. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT INFO
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON A CAR WRAP BROCHURE)
Observation:
Looking at the responses many people would like to see the different designs and types of wrap .
But also, some people didn’t know. This may be because they have never read one or simply didn’t know.
However, some people would also like pricing and application process, which demonstates an interest.
There was one person that said fishes, so I'm guessing they have an interest in fish. I could possibly include a fish design.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that people would like to know the basic things like the pricing, application, the types of wrap and the
designs such as a wrap with a fish design.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include key information like pricing, type of wrap, application and designs, including a fish design, that
will help interest the audience. However, I will also try to inlcude designs on old and new cars. Furthermore, I will try to
add small description and make sure to try and include whether its suitable for anyones car or not.
37. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (COLOURS)
Observation:
Many people would like to see a range of colours on the brochure, which has a percentage of 46.67%. Then it is
followed closley by dull and bright colours, both had a percentage of 26.67%
What does this say about my audience
This shows me that most people would like to see a range of colours on the brochure
How will I appeal to this audience:
For my brochure I will make sure to include a range of colours, to help make the brochure stand out but also to
help interest my audience and consider what they would like within the brochure.
38. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT TYPES OF
CAR WRAP/GRAPHICS INTERESTED IN GENERALLY)
39. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT TYPES OF
CAR WRAP/GRAPHICS INTERESTED IN GENERALLY)
Observation:
Looking at the responses to this question not many people know. This may be because they don’t know whats
available or just undecided due to so many choices. However, the other responses was that people would like a
range of modern styles and a range of sizes.
What does this say about my audience
This shows me that people would like to see a range of modern designs that are a range of sizes. They are open
minded to different designs that are out there.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will include a range of designs, that will look modern with a range of sizes. So that I include what the audience
has said.
40. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - SURVEY REVIEW
I sent out the survey to people in my class and family, to get as many answers as I possible could. This was so that I got a variety of answers from
a range of ages, to help with my project.
• Most people that answered my survey were teens below 18, which were then followed by young adults and older adults. I will make sure my
project is suitable and interesting.
• As most of my audience are male which is closely followed by female. I will make sure to include designs for both genders, so noone feels
singled out.
• There were a mixture of people who owned a car and some people who don't . So, in my project I will make sure to include designs that are
suitable for all types of cars from old to new cars.
• Many people like car graphics but some people did not. I will make my brochure interesting, to help change the audience's opinions on car
graphics.
• Not many people have car graphics/wrap on their vehicle, so I will include information about the design, the pricing and application to help
interest my audience.
• Not many people have modifications on their car so I will include designs, pricing and application for cars with and without modifications.
• Looking at the results there was a lot of people who read a brochure at least once a month. To help improve this I will make sure my brochure
interests my audience and to try to encourage more regular reading. I will do this by adding key information and designs and make the layout
stand out to help engage them.
• Many of my audience would like to see a range of things within my project. However, the main thing that came up was pricing, application
and design. Therefore, I will make sure there is a description on how the wrap is applied to the vehicles and I will include a pricing for each
design.
• Most of my audience would like to see a variety of colours. This was closely followed by bold and bright colours and dull colours. So for my
project I will make sure to include a range of colours that are also bright and dull colours.
• Not many people knew what types of graphics they liked in general other than a variety of sizes and patterns. In my brochure I will make sure
to include a variety of designs that come in a variety of sizes.
41. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – CAR FORUM SURVEY OUTLINE
The survey was done through survey monkey and was sent to people I know like my college group chat, family and
friends.
When doing this I got a variety of results and I mentioned brochure. This was because at the time I didn’t know
what a fanzine was, and I thought it was something like a brochure, therefore I used that phrase brochure for the
first survey. However, for this survey I did it on survey monkey again but this time changed the term to"fanzine"
after doing some research and then did a fanzine as part of a previous project.
I put the survey on a car forum, Reddit. This is because I wanted to get a good view of what my actual target
audience was if my FMP is associated with cars. The questions I asked people on the survey was:
• Age
• Gender
• What interests them associated with cars
• What do they want to see in a car fanzine
• Would they be interested in reading a car graphic fanzine
• Would they be interested in watching a promotional video on the car graphics fanzine
43. ADIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (AGE)
Observation:
Looking at the results for age, most people are in the 25-34 age category. This is the closely followed by 20%
percent of people under 18 and the same for 18-24 category
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that there is a variety of age groups from young teens to adults. This gives me a
better understanding of what age groups would be interested in a fanzine and in this case its mostly adults.
How will I appeal to this audience:
My project will have information and images suitable for people within these age groups and to help keep them
interested throughout the fanzine
45. ADIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (GENDER)
Observation:
Looking at the results for age, most people who did this survey are male which is followed by one person
who is female.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that there is obviously more male than female, which I expected for a car graphics
fanzine project. But it also narrows it down to help me get a better idea of who my audience is. However, i
will aim this fanzine at both genders as I do have to consider the results from the first survey as well.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include designs and colours that are suitable for male and female, so that none of
the genders feel singled out.
46. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT SPECIFICALLY
INTERESTS YOU THAT’S ASSOCIATED WITH CARS)
47. Observation:
Looking at the results 35.71% of people prefer cars in general, this is then followed by 21.43% interested in car
graphics and then the rest all have an equal amount of responses with 14.29%
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that they genuinly just like cars in general, some like the modifications and graphics but they just
have an interest in cars as a whole, especially with the survey being done on a car forum this was no surprise.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include designs with and without modifications but also some cars that just look like standard
factory cars. This is because I am trying to make it suitable for my audience and with people liking a mixture of
things to do with cars from my first survey and this one, I need it to be suitable for all.
AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT SPECIFICALLY
INTERESTS YOU THAT’S ASSOCIATED WITH CARS)
48. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT DO YOU
WANT TO SEE IN A CAR GRAPHICS FANZINE)
49. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WHAT DO YOU
WANT TO SEE IN A CAR GRAPHICS FANZINE)
Observation:
Looking at the results the majority would prefer to see the process of car graphics and basic designs, which this is
then followed by a couple of responses that would like to see a few crazy designs from the 80s and 90s.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that they prefer to learn about the process of car wrap and look at basic deisgns rather than over the
top designs. However, I do have to consider other responses from the first survey as well.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to include designs that are simple and over the top but also inlude the process of car wrap, this is
because I want it to include the things my audience want, and I need it to be suitable for all.
50. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WOULD YOU
BE INTERESTED IN READING A CAR GRAPHICS FANZINE)
51. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – SURVEY RESULTS (WOULD YOU
BE INTERESTED IN READING A CAR GRAPHICS FANZINE)
Observation:
Looking at the results there was mixed responses in whether they would be interested in reaading a fanzine,
42.86% said yes they would, however the majority at 57.14% said no they wouldn't.
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that my audience arent keen on fanzines or brochures, this may be because whenever they’ve read
one it's been quite boring, thay may have cost money and felt not value for money or are too expensive. They may
also not have time to spend looking at fanzines or brochures .
However ,that being said, I do have to consider those who have said they would be interested so I will ty make the
fanzine appealing for my target audience.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to make the fanzine and promotional video engaging, as I know from experince that some
brochures and fanzine can be quite boring, and it depends and how text and images are presented throughout.
52. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - SURVEY RESULTS (WOULD YOU BE
INTERESTED IN WATCHING A PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR A CAR
GRAPHICS FANZINE)
53. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - SURVEY RESULTS (WOULD YOU
BE INTERESTED IN WATCHING A PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR
A CAR GRAPHICS FANZINE)
Observation:
The results were equal so I will try to make the short video interesting for my target audience
What does this say about my audience
This tells me that my audiece has mixed opiions on a promotional video as some are and some are not
interested. So, I will need to make sure to make the video engaging and apealing but also short.
How will I appeal to this audience:
I will make sure to make the fanzine and promotional video engaging as I know from experince that some
promotional videos can be boring and drag on. I will look to make the video short and appealing.
54. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – CAR FORUM SURVEY REVIEW
To get as many answers as I possible could. I sent out the survey to people in a car forum on reddit.
• Many people that responded were between the ages 25-34, which was then followed by people who were age
18-24 and under 18. I will look to make sure that my fanzine is suitable for all ages.
• There were also more males than females, but I will use colours and images to make it suitable for both
genders.
• I will include the process of car wrap as a few people who did the survey would like to see that within the
fanzine.
• There were some people interested in a promtional video, so when thinking about my project I plan to create a
short but appealing promotional video.
55. AUDIENCE RESEARCH – INTERVIEW OUTLINE
The interviews I plan to do will act quite differently to the survey that I asked people to complete. The interviews
will have more in depth questions so that I get a better and detailed understanding on what people prefer.
However due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I will have to think about how I conduct these interviews as I will not
be able to do them face-to-face. I shall look to do most interviews through facetime or microsoft teams. I am
hoping that by doing the interviews I will achieved much more detailed answers that will guide me in my project.
That being said I will be able to do some face-to-face interviews with family members who are in the same
household as me. This will mean, I am not completely restricted, and I will still be able to get the appropriate
answers I need. This will limit the number of face-to-face interviews and sources.
Furthermore, a potential issue that could happen when doing the interview is that some of the questions could
be personal to some people so they may give a false answer or may not answer at all as they may not feel
comfortable answering a specific question.

How often do you read a brochure or fanzine and why:
I read one 3 years ago, so not often
For you to be intrested in a fanzine what would it need to contain:
It would have to be on a topic I'm interested in like music
What key colours would you like to see on a brochure:
A variety of colours including blue and orange
59. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - INTERVIEW REVIEW
Looking at the responses from my interviews, not many people read brochures or fanzines this is because they
can be quite boring. However, they all said that what would interest them in a fanzine is relevant information,
images and on topics they enjoy.
For my project I will make sure to include relavent information and images that will help to keep my audience
interested. My own opinion on brochures and fanzines is that I find them to be boring if they drag on or are not
of topics that I like.
Furthermore, the thing that came up from the interview was that they'd like to see a variety of colours. So, for my
project I will make sure to include a variety of colors both dull and bright.
I will also take into consideration the responses I got from both of my surveys and make it appealing and
interesting for all ages from 17+.
60. AUDIENCE RESEARCH - OVERALL SUMMARY OF
AUDIENCE RESEARCH
After collecting my audience research to get a good idea of what my target audience would be, I have found out
that not many of them are interested in fanzines or brochures. However, if it was about a subject, they like in
this case cars, then they would read it.
I would need to include a variety of colours, how the application of wrap works and both weird and simple
designs.
To piece this all together, I will create examples of templates that I will draw to help give me a rough idea of
what each page would look like. This will also help me to make improvements before I start creating my project. I
want everything to go as smoothly as it possibly can be due to the covid-19 pandemic causing restrictions.
62. PRODUCTION RESEARCH -
SOFTWARE
What software do I plan to use:
The software I plan to use for my FMP is mainly Photoshop
however due to the covid-19 pandemic, I may have to use
free software like Gimp, Krita etc. This is because I will be
creating the design of a fanzine.
I will also be using Videopad Video Editor for my
promotional video as it’s a free software and with the covid-
19 crisis I may have to use free software to help make this
project happen. I am also trying to use Apps that are as
close to the Adobe Apps as much as possible.
I will mainly be using these software as they have the tools, I
need to help create my fanzine and promotional video.
However, I may use other free softwares if things don’t go
the way I want them to go.
With this being a big project, I want this project to be the
best it can be.
63. PRODUCTION RESEARCH - SOURCES
The sources I plan to use to help me create this fanzine, is my notebook to help
give me a visual image of what each page of the fanzine would look like. By
doing this I would be able to make improvements on the drawings before
creating the fanzine. It would also help me visualise what I should include
within the fanzine and how to make it appealing for my target audience.
I also plan to use either other fanzines or some youtube videos to help me with
the layout of the fanzine, promotional video and designs for the vehicles . Using
these as sources will give me an idea on the types of designs, I could create for
my fanzine and the styles and structure used to help engage the audience.
Furthermore, I plan to use my last project as a source as it was a fanzine, I
created for the first time. I will use it to help guide me on the structure but also
to help make this fanzine look better through brightening the colours and
adding a variety of colours. I am hoping that this will be one way to grab
my audience's attention visually.
64. PRODUCTION RESEARCH –
HARDWARE
The hardware I plan to use is my laptop as it is print based project and
the majority of it will be done on my laptop. I will also use a keyboard
and mouse.
I do plan to use a printer to scan things such as mind maps and
templates to put onto my PowerPoints to show experiments and what
I plan on creating.
A USB stick to help transfer my work across laptops and computers.
This is because I'll need to use a computer to put my work on my
website.
I also plan to use a notebook to help to draw rough sketches of each
page within the fanzine. This is so I can make ammendments before
creating the project.
65. PRODUCTION RESEARCH – PRE - PRODUCTION
Equipment Location Time and date Reason for using it
Laptop Home To write up my
powerpoints and dairy,
also to do production
Computer Home To help transfer my work
to my website and
another device to save
my work
Keyboard Home Used to help type up
what I want to write for
the full project.
Mouse Home I plan to use a mouse to
help with certain
softwares such as krita
to help me craete my
fanzine
Sketchbook/notebook Home To help draw a rough
sketch of each page so I
can make improvements
before production
67. PRACTICAL RESEARCH - EXPERIMENTS
In class when preparing for my FMP, I did a few
experiments on photoshop, by selecting certain
sections on the car and changing the colour. I could
possibly do the same technique and use it for the
designs when creating my fanzine.
However, when doing these experiments there was some
difficulty as the software was quite slow and would stop
responding. So, I will make sure to take this into account
as a potential issue that could happen when creating my
fanzine.
The challenge I will have is due to the covid-19 pandemic
I may have to use free software like Gimp. This could
affect how the project looks visually in the end, my
experience using Gimp before it is quite pixalated so I will
take this into consideration when thinking about my
project.
68. PRACTICAL RESEARCH - EXPERIMENTS
I also started some experiments with templates of vehicles. This was to try
and do a before and after design, which I could maybe include in my fanzine
as looking back at my survey people would like to see the process.
The interesting thing about this was that it was an actual request from my
first client which happened to be my dad and his car. Luckily for me I was
given an opportunity to do something I was interested in. However, when
doing this experiment, I had to consider what the client wanted and try to
meet their standards.
I used a software that I have never used before, which was called Coral Draw.
In this software I was able to create the design that the client wanted on a
template of the vehicle within the software. However, I was limited on the
days I had to complete this design and the tools within the software because I
was trialing the software.
I did learn quite a few things with the software and believe this software is
suitable for more template-based projects. Unfortunetly the software isnt
free otherwise I would have used this to do some of my designs for my
fanzine.
69. PRACTICAL RESEARCH - HOW IT LOOKED ON THE
VEHICLE AND BEFORE AND AFTER DESIGN
When the design was completed on the software the clent was happy and
went ahead with having the wrap put on the vehicle.
Comparing the design on the vehicle and the software they both looked
good especially for my first attemp, however it did look better on the
vehicle as you could phyically see how the design turned out.
The client was happy with the outcome of the design as it was exactly
what they wanted.
Looking at the before and after design I do prefer the after design as it
doesn’t make the car look so plain and breaks up the white. However, the
actual car did have more graphics on it, but it was more like a finishing
touch to the car.
