1. Working Title: Coca-Cola: escape the machine
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Target Platform: This is an Advergame, released as advertisement through tv and computers
What media platform/platforms would you release the product on?
Genre: Advergame
What sort of a media product is it?
Language / Territories: This game is targeted towards everyone and could reach at least every 1st
world country, English speaking or not as the game relies on images rather than words; apart from
the obvious Coca-Cola logo. The game isn’t offensive in anyway, its only purpose is to advertise
the beverage Coca-Cola.
What countries would you release it in? Would it be suitable worldwide or is it targeted at a specific
population? Is it unsuitable for any cultures or beliefs?
Synopsis / Treatment / Story / How the game plays: My products purpose is to advertise Coca-
Cola in an entertaining way for the viewer, communicating the message through a classic 8bit style
platform. This style of advertisement may resonate with younger viewers who enjoy video games
and adults alike, from the age of classic games stylised much like this one.
What is your product about? Discuss how it works to communicate a message to the audience?
What is the main message?
One Line SalesPitch: Remember the classic 80s game Donkey Kong, well combine that with the
incredibly famous beverage Coca-Cola and you’ve got a brilliant advertisement, entertaining for
children and reminiscent for older generations.
Sum up your product in one sentence
Style (similar products and graphical style): My product is very similar to the 80s game Donkey
Kong, I took huge inspiration from this product due to its simplistic art style, obvious objective and
its large entertainment factor.
What product is yours similar to? Why have you used it for inspiration?
Discuss this in relation to conventions and art style
Audience: This product is for everyone, no matter race, culture, background or religion.
Furthermore, in no way should this product offend any of the previously mentioned people, as the
advertisement does not present any offensive material, obvious or not. This product is meant to
advertise Coca-Cola and nothing more, offending people in anyway shape or form would push
people away rather than entice them, therefore we stick to our main goal of spreading joy to the
world and not the complete opposite through offensive material.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc
Why would your product appeal to this person?
2. Legal & Ethical Considerations: No offensive material is included, it’s an advertisement for Coca-
Cola and nothing more. Younger and older audiences alike should enjoy the entertainment factor of
this advertisement, due to its inspiration from a classic video game, reminiscent for older audiences
and enticing for younger ones. No ethnicities or religious groups should be offended, it’s an
inanimate object (Coke can) with legs escaping a vending machine from coins, in no way is that
offensive to another human being. The advert is an advertisement for Coca-Cola, therefore we
obviously include the trademarked Coca-Cola logo and nothing more. The advertisement does not
include currently existing characters from other francizes, besides Coca-Cola man would be owned
by Coca-Cola if it were to already exist. My product is similar to that of the classic game Donkey
Kong however, only similar in how it’s played, the art style is 8bit much like Donkey Kong but so are
many other classics. The huge difference between the two products is mine is set in a vending
machine therefore has an exuberant, colourful background whereas Donkey Kong is set in an
endless black void, plus Donkey Kong is a video game therefore is playable whilst mine is similarly
set out but is an advert and can only be watched. There are enough changes between the two
products, meaning being sued for copyright infringement wouldn’t be a justifiable case.
Think about any offensive material you will include?
Will you restrict younger audiences engaging with it?
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities?
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone?
Is your product using characters/names/logos of existing ones?
Will your product be sufficiently different from existing ones to not get sued for copyright
infringement and how have you achieved this?
