1. MADD WORKSHOP
We went and did a open day at Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama, we did
this open day to help us choose if MADD was the right performing arts collage.
MADD is an all round performing arts collage and in the open day we were able to
see 1st and 2nd year taking part in there classes. Then we were able to take part in
a 15 minute session of each art form.
When were arrived we were told a bit off background information about MADD
and what the collage provides. Then we went on a tour of the building and watch
several of the class, we watched a jazz class, a ballet class, contemporary class and
a rehearsal for there performance. Then once we had seen the class we moved on
to taking part in our acting class. The acting class Ed Nudd was with We started
by siting in circle and passing a pen around the circle and saying “Here is a pen”
then the next person saying “a what?” then the answer is “A pen”. Then the pen
passes to the next person and the start of the speaking is the same then the
person passing it turns back to the first person and asked ”a what?” then the word
“pen” passes to the person and all the way to the person accepting the pen. Then
it continued all the way round the circle. Once the pen had got to the end we did
it again but this time we included a key in going the opposite way. This became
more difficult because we had to remember which item we had and which way
that item was going. This task was improve on the focus of the group and make us
realise our individual focuses as well.
After this we had a singing class with Glyn Kerslake. To start we did a short warm
up where we did ’me mar may moo’ warm up and scales. He then gave us lyric
sheet for 42nd street from the musical 42nd street. We sang through it a couple of
times to get the rhythm and lyrics into our head if we hadn't heard it then he went
over some of the section to improve our singing. We then sang the song in
smaller groups like half the class and then boys vs girls.
Our final class was a dance class with Stewart Hayes We did a shorten version of
the warm up MADD students do with him on a daily basis. This warm up included
simple stretch and strengthening exercises. Then we moved on to the learn the
choreography we had watch the 2nd year practice during our tour. The
choreography was technical and fast which meant it was hard to achieve straight
away. Once we had learnt a section we ran it to the music several times to make
sure we had got it before moving on to the next section. After we had learnt the
whole of the section he was taking us we split into groups and performed the
choreography.
At the end of the day we watch the MADD students performed some routines that
they did in their annual showcase. This allowed us to see what they can achieve in
a year and what sort of performances they do. After we were able to do a question
2. MADD WORKSHOP
My strengths were being able to pick up the choreography in the dance class and
being able to focus in the activity in the acting class.
My weakness was being able to confidently sing 42nd street in the singing class.
This is something I need to improve on because it is part of being a triple threat
performer.
Overall to improve, I will being working and training in a more professional way as
will help me achieve more when it comes to being in the performance industry.
In this photo we are sat listening to Ed telling us
what we are doing and then we are were
passing the pen and keys round in the circle.
In this photo we are doing the singing warm up’s that Glyn
had told us to do and then we moved on to singing the
song from 42nd Second street.
In these photo we are taking part in the dance workshop
and this first one is of us doing the warm up that Steward
and then we moved on to dong the choreography.
