Bring it on combining singing and dancing
1. Bring it on
Combining singing & dancing
Focus: The focus for today's workshop was to apply dancing together with singing, with extra attention needed on maintaining the harmonies
and vocal projections whilst dancing. Therefore, my target for today's session is to attempt to apply dancing and singing at the same time, and to
attempt to maintain vocal projection.
Combining sing and dancing: We started the workshop by performing the piece to see what sections needed work. After the first performance,
we made a list of everything we needed to improve as a group or individually. This list consisted of us remembering to sing with volume and
projection. Remember when we were supposed to input a crescendo at the correct section. After, we then went through the piece again to see
what else needed work and to practice the points we just talked about. I found this difficult at first because I don’t have much singing experience
but as the session went on I began to find it easier to achieve the changes our teacher set.
Strengths: Throughout the workshop, I discovered that my strength is to sing the section with the rest of the group. I hadn’t had much singing
experience so singing with the group made me feel more comfortable because I could listen to the group more to get the correct note and
timing.
Weakness: However, my weakness is to remember to sing my section when I am dancing. To improve this is will keep practicing, and work on
doing both sections at the same time. Also, not only sing but to project enough for it to be heard over dancing movement and backing track. We
worked on improving projection by just singing the sections we need to project better, also we tried to over exaggerate the dynamic contrast to
combat the projection problem.
