Weekend Rehearsal - Saturday

Saturday Rehearsal
The group decided on attending a weekend rehearsal to gather more time on rehearsing each
differentsectionwithinthe performance.The aimwastoeithergo over,polishorlearnnew sections
of the performance and ensuring that it was looking to the best of our ability.
The daywas splitintodifferentsectionsbyworkingondifferentareasof the showcase performance.
Hamilton was first as there was more Hamilton numbers; I focused on my own choreography first
ensuringthatI hadremembered the correctmoves. The onlyissue thatwascreatedwasthe factthat
the stage reduced the dance space in front of it therefore affecting the formation.Drastic measures
were taken into changing the choreography a week before the show, yet due to my professional
attitude & maturity I knew it was for the best. The changes were the first things that needed to be
rememberedsoconstantgoingoveritwasnecessaryuntil the dance teacherwashappytomove on.
The nextthingto workon was the singingthroughoutthe Hamiltonsection. The main focuswas the
correct harmonies in each number making sure everyone was singing the correct notes and making
sure everybodywasaware of the importance of the harmonies.Helpfromoneof the singingcoaches;
Caroline Wilkinson aided us to know our correct harmonies. After everybody was comfortable we
decided to run the Hamilton sector to see if it was up to good standards of the acting coach, vocal
coach and the dance instructor. There were areas of the sectionthat still neededimprovements, but
within our free time.
‘Bringiton’ wasnexttorehearse,we all feltpositive withthe choreographysowe decidedtojustrun
the piece with the script included. Comments about the scripted piece were discussing how
characterisation was lacking and needed to be developed. However other comments regarding the
overall performance were that of positive and I therefore am proud of myself. The next thing to
rehearse wasthe solopiecesfromthe Year12 PerformingArtsstudents.Mysolowascalled;‘Waving
througha window’ fromthe musical;‘DearEvanHansen’. The blockingwasimportantto ensure that
whenImove withinmysong, thatit had a purpose for the songand had a reasonfor me moving. The
whole song is about the character ‘Evan Hansen’ trying to get people’s attention as he has social
anxietysohe findsitdifficulttomake friends,thereforemovingwithpurposemeansme movingtrying
to portray his desperation into getting people to notice him.
The lastthingto rehearse wasthe Year13 Grease section, whichwasalreadypreparedhowevertogo
over choreography and lines was a real big help. I worked with my dance partner by going over the
dances whilst other people rehearsed whatever they needed to do. After a good fifteen minutes
rehearsing, we ran through the Grease section without stops to see the flow and the energy levels.
Feedback from the acting coach stating that the energy was good but fluctuated throughout. To
resolve thisIwill watchthe performancebackandmake notesonwhere Ifeltthe energydroppedand
I will feedbacktomypeersandexplaintothemthatthisshouldnotbe happening.Itisimportantthat
this does not happen in the industrybecause directorsexpect full energy all the time or they would
justreplace youwithsomeone else. Mybiggestworrywasmakinga mistake duringanyof the dance
routines,whichIdidnotdosoIwasveryglad. Thiswouldbe abenefitforthe industryasitwouldgive
me more access to greater productions or even, better agencies.
