1. Bring it on
Serious break down
Focus: The focus for today’s lesson was to break down our showcase performance and make it more precise. To look in detail at each section of
the singing, dancing and acting and make it better. Therefore, my target is to know exactly what I am supposed to be doing throughout the
whole performance and make sure my sections are precise.
Warmup: We started by doing a task to get us in character. In order to improve our characterization and attitude, we were asked to improvise a
short scene in which we had to imagine we were in a club sowing off our dance skills. I found this task hard at first because it was not something
I was used to doing. However, I eventually got into it and it became comfortable for me to do. We went through the acting and tried to add the
character we just created into the acting, this really helped me because then I had an idea on how to act. I began to shake my hips, body ripple,
and feel the music.
In this image, I am taking part in the warm up Mrs Parkin had said for us to do. I found this challenging because I
wasn use to this sort of dancing but the more we did it the better I got.
Bring It On: We ran through the full routine to see which sections needed to improve on. After, we ran though
the routine we realized there was quite a lot of sections that needed improving both in the singing and dancing.
However, the main issue was we didn't have enough energy and enthusiasm throughout the whole routine. So
first we started by running it again with more energy, enthusiasm and performance. After that it already looked
better. Next, we sorted out the singing sections where the singing wasn’t strong. We made sure we all knew exactly what we had to sing and
when. One thing that not many of us knew when we sang was the “It’s all happening” line, because sometimes not all of us sang it. We changed
this to make sure whoever was able to sing the line sang that line every time (other than the one where the boys sing it on their own once). This
meant that this line sounded more powerful and unified than it did before.
We then started looking at the choreography for the routine because some section wasn’t completely in unison and some were out of time with
each other. We started from the beginning going through the exact movement and the exact timing. One section we sorted was the first bit of
unison. We went through the movement and made sure we were all doing the exact same movement. We found out that the body roll into
shoulder isolation, not all of us do the same thing on the same counts. The counts are 1,2,3,&,4 but some of us were doing adding an extra &
count on the end. Also, further on in the routine we do a duet section. This section wasn't in time and not all the movements were the same.
The section where the front person drags their arms up the front and the back person forcefully click their arms out to the side. Then the front
person does a parallel drop to the floor and the second person does a forceful click upwards with arms in parallel. In this section, some people
2. didn't do the click upwards in parallel their arms were slightly wider. We then sort out the timing of the drop because everyone was doing the
drop on a different count. The drop is supposed to be on 4.
In this image, I am going over the section where me and Allana do our duet in front of
Jack. We are going through it to sort out the timing and make sure our actions are
correct with each other.
Strengths: My strengths for today’s lesson we quickly learning and changing the dance
parts to match the others in my group. This is due to my pervious dance experience
and will help me in the industry because it means I can change parts of a dance routine
quickly.
Weakness: However, my weakness was learning and changing the singing parts
because I couldn't remember the changes we made as easy. From my target at the start I think I achieved half of it because I knew exactly what I
was doing in the dance section but singing section was slightly harder for me to know exactly what I was doing. To improve this, I will keep
practicing and video myself singing without the backing track so I can see exactly where I need to improve. I will also ask my peers to help me as
well.
