1. LES MISERABLE SATURDAY
REHEARSAL
To start the Saturday rehearsals we began by sing through the whole
performance as an choir performance. This run through went well as
majority of the chorus numbers were known by enough members of the
cast that we could do majority chorus songs.
Once we had sung though the musical we then split into groups and all the
girls went with Mr Atkins to learning the harmonies of Turning and the
others stayed with Mr Sluman to begin staging another section. Turning
isn’t a long song but the harmonies were tricky to achieve. I stayed doing
the altos harmony because it still suited my voice better. We split the first
part of the song and then we were told which part of the song each
harmony was singing. Once we had a the right part we being singing the
song through. The first few times it wasn’t sung correctly but Mr Atkins
went through each bit that we were struggling on and then it came
together and worked better. I found this particularly tricky because I wasn’t
able to pick up the notes I was singing as easy as I would if it was dance
choreography.
Then we all went back together and began running through all the sections
we had already staged. The first one we ran was One Day More. The staging
wasn’t as good as the first time we ran the staging. We went over any bits
that we found tricky and the we moved on to the next routine. Then we ran
Lovely Ladies and we went over spacing to make sure it was correct. I found
that running through all these sections of staging because I find picking up
choreography up easy and making sure all the little bits I perform are
correct.
We then moved on to being staging at the end of the day, Mrs Turner
placed all the poor on stage in a clump and then they moved forward in
different count but kept the character of the poor. After they had the
moment of poor the factory works enter stage. We then weren’t able to
finish the choreography because we need to find some more videos of how
to stage this section.
Strengths: I found being able to pick up and alter chorography easy due to
my background training before.
Weakness: I found being able to pick up the right notes in the singing was
tricky because I haven’t had much training for singing before.
Improvements: I will practice the songs that I am struggling with and get
help from other students and teachers if needed.
