2. परिभाषा
सामाजिक मानक - सामाजिक मानक उन मूल्यों का एक
समूह होते हैं िो सामाजिक मूल्यों पर आधाररत होते हैं तथा
समाि के सदस्यों के व्यवहार एवं आचरण को जनयंजित करते
हैं।
Definition
Social Norms – Social norms are set of
values that regulates the behaviour and
conduct of individuals and that are
based on social values.

3. सामाजिक मानकों के प्रकाि
1. वणानात्मक और जनषेधात्मक।
2. जनदेशात्मक और प्रजतषेधात्मक।
3. आत्मजनष्ठ या व्यजतपरक।
Type of Social Norms
1. Descriptive & Injunctive.
2. Prescriptive & Proscriptive.
3. Subjective.

4. सामाजिक मानकों के प्रकाि
1. वणानात्मक और जनषेधात्मक - वणानात्मक मानकों का अथा होता
है जक ‘क्या होता है’, िबजक जनषेधात्मक मानकों का अथा होता है जक
‘क्या होना चाजहए’।
2. जनदेशात्मक और प्रजतषेधात्मक - जनदेशात्मक मानक वो अजिजित
जनयम होते हैं िो यह बताते हैं जक िोगों को ‘क्या करना चाजहए’ और
प्रजतषेधात्मक मानक वो अजिजित जनयम होते हैं िो यह जनधााररत करते हैं
जक िोगों को ‘क्या नहीं करना चाजहए’।
3. आत्मजनष्ठ - व्यवहार करने या नहीं करने के जिए प्रत्यजित
सामाजिक दबाव को ही आत्मजनष्ठ मानक कहा िाता है।

5. Type of Social Norms
1. Descriptive & Injunctive Norms -
Descriptive norms refers to what happens,
while Injunctive norms refers to
what should happen.
2. Prescriptive and Proscriptive -
Prescriptive norms are unwritten rules that
dictate what people should do and Proscriptive
norms are unwritten rules that dictate what
people should not do.
3. Subjective norms - Subjective norm is
"the perceived social pressure to perform or not
to perform the behavior" (Ajzen, 1991, p. 188).

6. सामाजिक मानकों का गठन
सामाजिक मानक औपचाररक या अनौपचाररक रूप से जवकजसत
होते हैं। औपचाररक रूप से जनयमों और कानूनों के माध्यम से तथा
अनौपचाररक रूप से धीरे-धीरे और क्रमशः अथाात अनुभव, अभ्यास और
नीचे वजणात कारकों के माध्यम से: -
1. अनुभव (साजथयों-का-समूह, माता-जपता, सामाजिक समूह और
जशिक) - िीन जपयािे (1932) के अनुसार बच्चे में सही या गित,
जववेक, नैजतकता, जनणाय और न्याय की अवधारणा साजथयों के समूह,
माता-जपता आजद के साथ अंतःजक्रया से जवकजसत होती है।

7. Formation of Social Norms
Social norms can emerge formally or
informally. Formally means through rules
and laws while informally means slowly
and gradually through experience,
practice & other factors described below: -
1. Experience (Peers, Parents, Social set
up & Teachers) – According to Jean Piaget
(1932) the concept of right or wrong,
conscience, morality, judgment and justice
develops in interaction with peers, parents
etc.

8. 2. सामाजिक अंतःजक्रया का पररणाम - सामाजिक मानक सामाजिक
अंतःजक्रया का पररणाम होते हैं। फे जस्टंगर (1954) ने बताया है जक
सामाजिक-मानक समूह के सदस्यों के बीच पारस्पररक अंतःजक्रया और
सामान्य सहमजत के कारण आकार िेते हैं। मानक सामाजिक अंतःजक्रया से
आते हैं क्योंजक वे सामाजिक िागत के मामिे में जकफायती होते हैं और
सामूजहक समस्याओं को सुिझाने में भी मदद करते हैं (उिमैन-मागाजिट,
1977)।
3. जनरीिण (अनुकरण या प्रजतरूपण) - एक समूह के सदस्य अविोकन
द्वारा अन्य समूह के मानकों को सीिते हैं और उन्हें अंतर्ग्ाहण करते हैं। भारत
िैसे जवजभन्न संस्कृ जतयों वािे देशों में मानकों का अंतर-समूह हस्तांतरण
सामान्य रूप से देिने को जमिता है।

9. 2. Product of Social interaction – The social
norms are the product of social interaction.
Festinger (1954) suggested that SN forms due to
interpersonal interaction and general agreement
among group members. Norms come up from
social interaction because they are economical in
terms of social cost and helps in solving collective
problems (Ullman-Margalit, 1977).
3. Observation (Imitation or Modeling) – The
members of one group learns the norms of other
group by observation and imbibe them. It occurs
in countries with diverse cultures such as Bharat
where intergroup transfer of norms is common
practice.

10. 4. संचार - समूह के सदस्यों के बीच का पारस्पररक संचार
सामाजिक मानकों की स्थापना करने और मौिूदा सामाजिक
मानकों को जनिारने में मदद करता है। सामाजिक मानक
आमतौर पर अजिजित रूप में पाए िाते हैं और मौजिक संचार
के माध्यम से प्रेजषत होते हैं।
5. मानकों की उपयोजगता - कु छ व्यवहार िो समाि और
समूह के कल्याण के जिए फायदेमंद होते हैं और जिन की
उपयोजगता उच्च होती है, उनकी मानकों का रूप िेने की
सम्भावना अजधक होती है।

11. 4. Communication – The interpersonal
communication among group members
leads to the establishment of SNs and also
helps in refining the existing ones. SNs are
generally found in unwritten form and
transmit through verbal communication.
5. Utility of the norms – The certain
behaviours that are beneficial for the
welfare of the society & group and which
have higher utility are more likely to be
retained as norms.

12. 6. चरम राय के स्तर को बराबर करना – सामाजिक वणाक्रम के
चरम छोर पर पाये िाने वािे जवचारों को िब समाि द्वारा जनयजमत
रूप से बराबर के स्तर पर िाया िाता है तो ये मानक का रूप धारण
कर िेते हैं।
7. जवश्वासों और अपेिाओं के माध्यम से - जवश्वास और
अपेिाएं मानव व्यवहार को मागादशान प्रदान करती हैं। जकसी भी
व्यवहार के अपेजित पररणाम व्यजि को मनोवैज्ञाजनक राहत प्रदान
करते हैं िो सामाजिक मानकों में जवश्वास को और अजधक मिबूत
करते हैं। और जफर ये जवश्वास धीरे-धीरे सामाजिक मानकों में
पररवजतात हो िाते हैं।

13. 6. Leveling of Extreme Opinions – The
opinions at the extreme ends of the social
spectrum when regularized through
leveling by society then they take form of
social norms.
7. Through Beliefs & Expectations –
The beliefs and expectations guides the
human behaviour in a specific direction.
The expected outcome of a behaviour
creates a sense of psychological relief that
strengthens the belief in the system. The
belief then gradually turns into SNs.

14. 8. ज्ञान (समूह और सामान्य) – समाि में चिायमान समूह
या सावािजनक ज्ञान से प्राप्त सूचना जनरंतर उपयोग से सामाजिक
मानकों में पररवजतात हो िाती है।
8. Knowledge (Group and Common) –
The continuous use of knowledge coming
from group/s or common knowledge
floating in the society turns it into SNs.

15. भाितीय संस्कृ जत में कु छ आम सामाजिक मानक
1. िूते जनकािकर घर में प्रवेश करना।
2. दोनों हाथ िोड़कर नमस्ते करना।
3. व्यवजस्थत शादी का चिन।
4. दाएं हाथ से थािी में भोिन करना।
5. दोनों हाथों से उपहार देना और प्राप्त करना।
6. अजतजथ को भगवान के समकि दिाा देना और सबसे पहिे
भोिन करवाना।
7. जकसी को उसकी उपिजधधयों के जिए तािा फू िों की मािा
गिे में डाि कर अजभनन्दन करना।
8. कानों को पजवि मानना (दूसरे के कानों को स्पशा करना
अनुजचत माना िाता है)।

16. Some common SNs in Bharatiya Culture
1. Removing of shoes before entering a
house.
2. Namaste by folded hands.
3. Arranged marriage.
4. Food in thali and with right hand.
5. Giving and receiving gifts by both hands.
6. Guest are treated equivalent to god and
served on priority.
7. Fresh flower garlands for achievements.
8. Ears are sacred (Touching of others ears
are considered as inappropriate).
