2. Initial Ideas
My initial idea is to create a Energy Drink that is about extreme sports. I have taken
inspiration from Monster Energy and have created a drink design based around
extreme sports. My energy drink is going to be a high end can. It is going too be sold
un limited places where as Monster is sold in many more places. My energy drink is
going to be aimed at both males and females. This is because through research I
have found no energy drink that has a male and female audience. This will make my
energy drink unique to the public. I am going to use unisex colours such as yellow,
black and white this is because of the target audience that I am going to aim for. It is
going to be a more high end energy drink.
6. These are the types of themes
that I am going to aim for In
my energy drink. I am going to
use silhouette stock images to
create the graphics on my can.
Like the ones on the right. My
can is going to be 500ml. So I
am going to follow the likes of
Monster energy and Rock star.
I am also going to take
inspiration from the high
contrasting colours of the
design of these already existing
drinks. This will really make my
energy drink look professional
and stand out.
9. Out of all these potential fonts the one I really like the most is the first font on the seconded line
down down. This is Killerhorse. I really like this font compared to the rest because I find it very
striking and I like the different levels of height between each letter. I think would be good to
represent my unique and different energy drink. I also like how bold this is. It stands out to you
and this is what I want from my font for my name. Its very blocked letters
this stands out to me which would be appropriate for the audience
that I am aiming to target.
My seconded favorite font is Evogria. This is the first font on the page. I
really like this font because it is very sharp and bold which would
represent my energy drink really well. I like how it is in italics as it gives
the font affect that it about to “zoom” off or set off which is appropriate
for my energy drink which is all about living and being active. This concept
of this font also links with my advert where the drink is being thrown
around by a group of young people just before they set off to do their
sport. I really like how clean cut and straight forward this font is. It would
make the drink look smart and professional which is the look am I going
for with it being a high end energy drink.
This is my third favorite font. New highs is the font, compared to the rest
this font looks edgy and interesting which I feel could really work for the
concept that I am going for. It is creative and will attract my target
audiences attention which is what I am wanting. It fits will with the word
extreme which is a part of my energy drink.
10. Font/Colour Scheme development
My colour schemes are going to be bright and bold so the drink will stand out. But it is going to
be bright and bold in a way that doesn’t make the drink look cheap and tacky it is going to make
the drink look professional. I am going to take inspiration from Monster energy and have a dark
black background then the foreground colors of text and graphics colours that are off a high
contrast. The coloring scheme of the swirls in the top left hand corner demonstrate this really
well with what I am hoping to achieve. I want the colours to look young edgy and trendy to
attract by younger target audience. I am going to go for unisex colours like yellow, greens or even
multicolored to show that this drink is aimed at both boys and girls. Not just one gender like
Monster Energy.
11. Font/Colour Scheme development
These are the fonts but with the colours
of what I am thinking of having the
packaging. I have chosen yellow because
it is a unisex colour this represents that
my drink can be for both male and
females. The top font and background
goes really well together in my opinion
but I feel the font could possible be too
fussy. The middle combination is my
favorite using the Killer horse font. The I
really stands out and is a good focus
point for the middle of the can. I really
like this one. I feel like I would need to
tweak the font and add a drop shadow
or some effects to make it look 3D this
would look really effective on the font
and not make it look as boring. The
bottom font does not really work with
the colours etc. I feel like it is very bland
and lacks creativity. It just does not work
well with the colours I have chosen
therefore I will not be using it.
12. I really like the black and the white. It creates
a really high contrast which is what I am
going for with my logo. The top black and
white design is my favorite out of the three of
them. This definitely looks the best because
of the font. I really like the font with the black
and white contrast. I think this works really
well compared to the font in the yellow and
black. My least favorite is the bottom design.
It isn’t very clear and my target audience may
get confused about the name as it isn’t that
bold compared to the top design. So I shall
definitely be going for this font as it works
really well.
13. I am not very fond of this yellow
background design. I feel like this is
very tacky and it looks like a warning
sign which is not the look I want for
my design. This does not look that
professional and smart like the black
and white combination. I am not
keen on the yellow background, It is
to bright and I do not think this
works at all. I do not think I will be
going with the yellow background.
The black font looks to harsh with
the yellow. It is very in your face
which is what I want but I want it less
outrageous.
18. Task 6: Advert Development
So far these are my ideas for my advert. These are mock up adverts.
As you can see I have developed my advert from the first mock up to
the seconded.
The first advert is pretty basic I have used my original font of
Killerhorse and I have used this for the name LIV. For the extra text
like the slogan and the social networking address’ I used the font
Evogria. I placed the bottle at the side of the page and got inspiration
to do this from Monster energy adverts. They put the bottle at the
side of the page and I got this from the previous research on their
adverts. Then I have placed a large background picture with bold
writing on the top. I got inspiration to do this from the lucozade
background. They used a large image in the background and used
bold block colored text.
The seconded advert I added the yellow bar to keep in with the
colour scheme and I kept a lot of elements from the first copy but
changed it around. I added the yellow so it would link with the
colours that I used for the banner for the drink. I also moved the
drink into the middle of the page. This made the drink the main
focus point on the page and I think this is really effective because it is
the first thing that you look at. I then slanted the name of the drink
and the slogan. I really like this. It works a lot better than when it
was horizontal because it’s almost mimics the surfer being sideways
on the board when their on the wave.
19. Task 6: Advert Development
I changed the style of my advert. Instead of having
it very dark and having a lot of blue which I wanted
to stay away from. I changed my advert and took a
lot of inspiration from the lucozade advert because
I loved that it was young and trendy. That is the
look I am trying to go for. They have mixed this
level of professional packaging with a trendy and
young advert for a sport drink. I have tried to do
this with my advert and kept the same elements
with the spilt between the page and the different
colours of text on the different sides of the page. I
think this is really effective and I originally used the
yellow but then wanted to take it back to the black
and white packaging. So then I changed the text
colour from the yellow to black and white. It is an
extreme sport energy drink but I like the fact that
it’s very trendy and my target audience is young
male and female’s and I have done my advert with
a filter and opacity text which attracts a younger
audience because that fashionable at the minute.
I really like the seconded advert compared to the
first advert. I like the original elements combined
with this trendy feel ab0ou the advert. I wanted to
use minimal text to keep it minimal and simple.
This works well because I want to not over
complicated it because my target audience would
appreciate a advert like this more. I could
improved this by adding some more text about
finding the drink online & links etc…
20. Here I have developed my previous advert by adding four
pictures of people doing extreme sports. I wanted to show
that the drink was aimed at all extreme sports instead of
just one. So I have picked four very different sports to
represent this. I still took inspiration from the lucozade
adverts. I also kept some key elements like the black and
white writing. This is a key feature to my product as it is
represented on the bottle as well as the advert.
On the first image the LIV is more faded which I did not think it
stood out as much so I have changed this and made the LIV
more filled. This is more effective as it is a lot darker and
stands out more behind the busy background. I have also
changed the slogan and put the colour change through the
middle of the your which again I think works a lot better.
Compared to the last advert this advert has many more
features and shows that the drink is for all extreme sports not
just surfing.
The bottom advert I developed the behind images and I taken
the opacity off and I changed the contrast and brightness to 9
and 16. This made the images brighter and has made them
stand out more and not made them look that washed out. The
before pictures are quite washed out and the sporting images
do not stand out. Where this way they do stand out a lot
more. I like the faded LIV it is really effective and it stands out
more with the images being like this. I really like this effect.
22. Task 6: Advert Evaluation
My work uses a lot of technical qualities using the program Photoshop. This is what I used to design my advert.
Firstly I used the resizing tool. This was to make my images the size and position to fit in the four corners of the
page. I used this arrow tool and it created tiny squares to be able to adjust my
work. This was really easy to use which was really convenient.
I then used the text tool to create the text on this advert. This
was again another really easy tool to use so it did not take any
time up and it was not time consuming at all. This is one of my
main tools for my work because text is one of my main aspects
so using this tool was important and was crucial that I used.
For my images and text I used the opacity tool. This tool changed how thick the image and text was and how
much you wanted it faded. I chose to have my images on 92% opacity. This created a faded affect on my
pictures but I did not change it to much that it lost it’s colour. I altered the brightness and contrast for the
images with the image on the top tool bar. I made the pictures brighter and tuned the contrast down to give it
that extreme contrast. Then when I turned the opacity to 92% it then did fade in colour but had a nice effect
of it. Then I used the opacity tool again on the text. I turned the opacity of this to 72%. This created a really
faded affect which was perfect for creating that see through affect so you can see the image behind it. This
was favorite technical quality because it created a see through effect on the text so you can see through and
see part of the picture behind. I really like the quality for this effect it looks very professional and I took the
inspiration from the Lucozade adverts. They use a opacity effect on the text. So you see a different a different
effect of a small part of the picture. The overall quality of the tool was very important to my work because it is
one of my main aspects to it.
23. Task 6: Advert Evaluation
My work has a lot of aesthetic qualities that are really strong. The text and images hold are strong part for the look
of my work. It creates a see through affect especially the text which is a very strong and bold quality of how it
looks. As I explained previously I used the opacity tool to create this look as I wanted the audience to be able to
see the image through the text. I took inspiration for this look from the Lucozade advert. I really like the trendy
and young looking qualities that they have in their adverts so prior to that I tried to try these qualities in to give it
that trendy young look.
For the look of my images I wanted actual photography and not anything that roto scoped or cartoon like. So I
used photography for my images to make it realistic and make it look like you can do that if you had this drink.
Making it realistic gives it a more professional and real look. I really like this look using photography because It
reaches out to my target audience a lot. If I was to create something cartoon like it’s quite immature and child like
and I am looking to aim my drink at young and trendy male and females that do extreme sports. Which suggests
they are going to be mature and take things seriously. To me cartoon like graphics are not very serious and
professional. As a more high end drink the photography works with the advert as It looks like a lot of effort has
gone in to taking the pictures and creating a stylish look. As a young female myself I would appreciate images to
look at a lot more than just cartoon/digital graphics. The four pictures in each corner represents the extreme sport
and concept of the drink. I like the look because it reaches out to a range of sports. It shows that it is not targeted
to just one. It’s a drink that is targeted to all extreme sports.
The text look is another major aesthetical quality is the colour of the writing as you can see I have done half black
and white white this links with the actual can packaging which I wanted to project on to my advert so my target
audience knows that it’s the same drink. The look of this also represents the edge that my drink is speaking out
that you live on. Between the black and white is the edge that determines which side you live on. I really like this
look because it’s interesting and creative as it’s half and half but then also it has more meaning as it represents
something.
I also took inspiration again from Lucozade by using a bottle of the side of the page. It is not making it the main
image. But I like the fact my target audience will know what the drink look’s like and what they need to look out
for when they want to buy it.
24. Task 6: Advert Evaluation
There can be some development of my work. I have already developed it from one picture to four. But I
was thinking I could develop the pictures from four to many which I think would be very interesting
because. It would show many more extreme sports that the drink reaches out to. I think there could also
be further development with the look of the images. I could fid some better and more exciting images
images where you could see the peoples faces better. I think this could be interesting and effective because
it would give my advert a more personal affect. For my target audience being personal with my advert is
important and I did this with the ‘your’ in the slogan. This is so it’s challenging them almost and telling my
audience to live on their edge. If I used peoples faces looking into the camera. This would be beneficial as
eye contact with the audience they would think their aiming that slogan straight at them.
I think my final image is fit for purpose. It definitely reaches the purpose that I have created it for. I have
created it for an extreme spot purpose and it definitely does support this. I have packed my advert with
extreme sports. My overall advert in my opinion is fit for purpose it has a good structure and it’s not messy
and confusing. It has a structure of text at the top middle and bottom and then four images behind. Its clean
cut and very straight forward for my target audience. The only thing that could let it down for not being fit for
purpose is the images not being not exactly in the middle. It is very hard to try and find the exact middle and
think that I have found it but to someone else that may not be the exact middle which could bring my advert
down. This is the only thing that could not make it fit for purpose so because it is the only thing to resolve
thus problem I will need to get a seconded look of my advert and ask for a seconded opinion on it. I will do
this to just double check and make sure.
25. Task 6: Advert Evaluation
My first part of development worked really well. I had thought of an idea and this was
it on my right. This idea was a strong idea for me and I still used inspiration from
Lucozade. I used a large image in the background and large block colored text. I was
happy with colours that I had used and the picture but I thought that it was very plain
and I could be so much more creative with this advert. So with this intention to create
something a lot more better I developed this idea. I started with a basic advert and
from this I developed it and this worked really well as I was able to realize what I
wanted and what I did not like. Overall I do not feel that there was much planning and
development that I needed to do more work with. I feel very confident with the fact
that I did do lots of development with the advert. This is because I am very pleased
with my overall result. If I was to chose one part which I could of put more
development work into then it would be my last draft. The last draft of the advert I
should of mixed the images around and changed the layout and this would have been
apart of working on the development. If I had more class time to complete this I would
of worked through it and developed different layout styles of my advert. However I am
happy with the overall advert. I do not wish to add any more work to any
development. Overall my development and planning did have a massive impact and
effect on my final image. If I did not develop my work then I would not of had the
result of a advert that really represented my drink. The effect that my development
and planning had with my final piece was drastic because the start of my web banners
was nothing like my finished piece and through the development of this work I ended
up creating a final piece which was a lot better than my first drafts. Development
create the extreme effect of my advert being a lot more related to my drink. This is
what I wanted to do originally. If I did not develop my work from my first draft than I
would not have made this effect which is really important to my drink as it represents
this.
26. Task 7: Product Development
This is my can design packaging. I have changed the design from a
bottle to a can. This is because I could be a lot more creative with the
can design. Which then makes my drink look a lot more exciting. I
have kept this white black side still and the yellow. I really liked this
aspect of this element. It represents the edge so I have kept this with
the can. I used colour select to create this yellow surfer on the can. I
wanted the surfer to go around the can which makes my drink stand
out from all the rest because I have not seen a graphic like that on
any can. I have kept it young and trendy by using bright colours to
attract my audience. I have a used repetition on my can so my
audience remembers the name. I really like the LIV in the background
the front of the can I changed the opacity of the black and faded it to
create this look. It’s very trendy and it breaks the white up and
creates a more interesting look.
This design definitely reaches my target audience. My target audience is
between 16-25 year olds and I have designed this packaging around
them in mind. The splash of colour really stands out from the black
background and creates an extreme contrast which is something I took
inspiration from through Monster energy. Monster energy has the
extreme contrast between the foreground and the background which is
what I wanted to achieve on my can. I have included social media sites
on the back of the can because this is advertising the drink on all
platforms. I feel like this is an main aspect of how popular it can get
through the likes of facebook and twitter etc…
27. Task 7: Product Development
This is the light version of the drink. This is the packaging
and I wanted to follow the same style but I have tweaked
it a little bit. I followed this from the likes of lucozade and
monster they keep the same style but they change it
slightly. Following the this I have kept the colour scheme
the same but I changed the colour of the yellow and I have
gone from a dark yellow to a lighter yellow. The lighter
yellow represents the drink being lighter and the diet
version. I still wanted to keep it yellow because it’s a big
trademark for my product.
I then swapped around the black and the white sides. This
shows that this is different version because you have your
original which is the white then black then the lighter
version is black then white. I think this is effective to my
audience because it keeps my original elements which are
the main trade marks of my work but then it changes
slightly. I also added the light and I still kept the split
between the letters. I think this is really effective for my
work. It defines it and I think I need to keep it within my
design.
29. Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
I used lots of technical qualities in my work to create this can packaging. I used a wide range of different tools on
the program Photoshop to achieve the different elements of my work. One of the main technical qualities of my
work Is the one graphic that I used across the can. For this I used a stock image then used the colour select tool to
pick out the graphic from the background. This created this surfer silhouette effect. Using the blending options I
used colour overlay and this created this yellow surfer silhouette effect. I then used the rubber and rubbed out
some of the yellow around the text to give it the effect that it is wrapping around text. This was not hard to do and
was very simple and give my work a extreme look which is exciting and effective.
My overall flat plan I made in Photoshop. I used the line tool to create this simply by just dragging the lines across
the page in to the order I wanted. Then I simply used the rectangular took to create the base this included the
white and black rectangles. I just used the arrow tool to reposition them to how I wanted. This was a very easy
tool to use and was not time consuming. Yet this was one of my main elements of my work.
Another technical quality was the opacity tool which I used in Photoshop to create the small background text
saying LIV across the white block. I wrote out the text in black using the text tool and the black colour for the font
then changed the opacity to 72 which gave it the grey faded effect which I thought looked very trendy and modern
for my drink which is the look I wanted. This technical quality I used a lot and it gave more detail to my work. I
liked using this tool because it was very easy to use and created a really good effect. I also used it on other text
such as the www.brightdrinks.com/LIV. I wanted this to be on show but the opacity tool made it not stand as
which is what I wanted to achieve.
30. Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
The look of my work is something that I focused on a lot and I was always thinking, what would this look like to my
target audience? I wanted my work to have a trendy and modern theme so It would attract my target audience So
I used minimal plain colours like black and white then added a splash of bright colour which is why I added the
yellow. This looks really effective because it just jumps out from the plain colours and really shows off what the
drink is about this is one of the strong aesthetic qualities of my work. Another strong aesthetic quality is the high
contrasts between the text and the background. I wanted the text to stand out so I took inspiration from Monster
energy and used colours such as black and white that had a high contrast. I then mixed them up so the white
would be with the black and the black would be with the white. This is really effect and gives my work a good look
because it is very bold and stands out on the can. I used this high contrast theme throughout the can using colours
with high contrasts against each other. I picked the colour yellow because of this and also it is a unisex colour and
my drink is aimed at both genders. The line that the colours change throughout the middle represents the edge
that my can is telling you to live on. I added this because it is visual to my audience. I wanted to show that edge so
they really get a feel about what my can is about with just looking at it. Following this I placed the surfer right in
middle to show that he is living on that edge. I feel like this is a good look for my audience cause it is showing my
drink visually not just by the text. Another aesthetic quality is the smaller text of LIV’s. I included this in my work
because it broke up the white and made my work look more interesting. I got inspiration from this from premium
brands such as Michael Kors and Gucci. Even though they are designers and have nothing to do which drinks I was
studying adverts and I really like that they used there brand name over and over again in the background. I
thought this was a really trendy and stylish element that could work on my can and it did. It shows that I am
aiming at a younger audience and this can is a high end drink.
31. This is where I got my inspiration from for
the high contrasting colours as you can see
Monster energy have used a very bright
green and black which creates this very high
contrasts and the drink stands out. This is
why I have chosen to use yellow, black and
white. They are three very high contrasting
colours against each other which makes my
drink stand out.
32. Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
For my work I think there could be some elements of it that I could develop. There are definitely opportunities in
there for further development. One of the features that I could develop would be the text (LIV) I want to develop
this and make it 3D like. This is would make the name look a lot more creative and stand out and I think it could
just make my work look that bit more exciting. My packaging is al about being exciting and this could be developed
more. I would also like to create the surfer silhouette in 3D to make it look like it’s coming off the can. I think this
would take my work up to the next level of look professional. The layout of my work can be developed and I think
I should of tried different layout like the lines to go horizontal almost like a cliff. There is still some developed that I
could work with to make my work better. But I really like my work how it is so this is why I have not developed it. I
think simple is more and I wanted to create a minimalist look. If I was to add on to this design this is space for
development in some areas but I don’t want to mess with it when I think it looks good the way it is.
My final pieces are fit for purpose. I am now happy with my final piece and I have added all the additional
information on the can like recycling sign, ingredients, barcode, best before date etc… This can now go straight
from the computer to the product and I would be very happy with it. When designing the can I always thought
about my target audience and what they would want. I am aiming at a target audience that is ages between 16-25
and are into extreme sports both male and female. So I wanted my packaging to be trendy and outgoing to reflect
on my audience. My can definitely achieves this which is why I think it is definitely fit for it’s purpose. I have
included all the important elements of an energy drink for example I have a catchy and lively name, a catchy
personal slogan and included all of the extreme sports elements that my drinks about. So it definitely fits in as an
energy drink itself.
33. Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
At the start of the designing I tried a lot of colours out together to see which ones I liked the best. This worked
really well for my work because I was able to visually see the colours together to know what worked well and what
didn’t. I made the logo and tried it out in yellow, black, red, blue and I was able to determine which one I liked the
most. This method of design really worked well because I picked my colours really easily and I as impressed with
the overall result so this method helped me achieve that! I developed my colours through this and I started off
using two colours then I added three. You can see my development on slide 11-15. The next planning and
developing stage worked well as well as I designed packaging for a bottle and this determined what I wanted to
do. It made me realized that I wanted to create a can packaging. So from this I developed my work into the can
packaging which I first of all used black and white then I added the yellow as I developed it. This worked well
because I am now impressed with my finished packaging and I wouldn’t of been if I had stuck with the bottle
design so I am glad I planned it out so I could see the differences and comparisons so I was able to chose what was
better.
My planning and development worked well because It made me realize what worked well together and what did
not. I could visually explore the options that I had to determine the outcome of my work. I am overall pleased with
my finished result and through the exploration of colours ,themes and layouts I was able to create the packaging
exactly how I versioned it would look like. I took inspiration from studying different drinks and this helped my
planning and development work well together.
This shows the
development
through my work and
what I did to achieve
my overall result.
34. Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
My can packaging planning and development stage could of done with more work. After I had chosen that I
wanted to do a can instead of a bottle I did not spend that much tie on planning the packaging for this. Originally
I just created a can packaging to see what It would look like and I liked my design a lot better than the bottle
design. This then changed my mind and I was very fond of the can packaging that I had just created. This was the
one I wanted to use. I think I should of developed the work more but I did really like the design so I just added the
yellow instead of the black silhouette to keep the original elements and I really liked the effect that this give to
my work. If I was to go back I would add some more layout styles and try and develop them more .I did really like
the edge design for my layout and this is what lead me to keep it in my work. Seeing what It looked like with the
yellow changed my mind and this is when I changed the design. I should of worked on the graphics in different
places just to see what they would look like. But I did want it in the middle for a reason. I really like my end
packaging so I don’t regret adding more planning and development to this part of designing.
Overall the development stages had a lot of effect on my final product. Through them stages this is where I
realized which of my ideas worked and which of my ideas did not. I also found out which colours worked with my
idea and which ones did not. This effected the overall colour and idea that I ended up with in my final product. The
development helped me to create something better and better each time for example I created my can design
then as I went over it I changed the black silhouette to yellow and this made my work look so much fresher and
trendy. This had a big effect towards my end product because I have added a third colour in the theme instead of
the two. So it did effect my work a lot. The development stages did have a lot to say for my final product because
showed me what worked together so from this I developed it and developed it and I added elements each time. I I
did not go through these stages to reach something that I was happy with. I would not of been really impressed
with my overall products. Originally I was going to have a yellow background but from development from this I
decided that the black worked a lot better. The developing stages effected my work by making it very professional
and clean cut looking that it is now.
35. Task 8: Web Banner Development
These are two of my first drafts for a web banner. As you can see I have
developed my first banner a lot compared to the seconded. I am not
satisfied with these just yet I still want to develop my ideas further and
create a really interesting and unique banner than represents my drink.
At the moment I feel like these web banners are not achieving this but
I feel like these drafts will develop my work further and I now realize
what I like and what I don’t like.
The first draft, I made it really simple to see what worked and I do
really like the split between the middle. This is a common theme I have
used throughout this drink and I think I may keep this on my web
banner as it’s a LIV trademark. I still kept with the original colour
scheme so my audience know that is promoting LIV the energy drink.
Although I feel like this is very simple and I wanted to develop it more
to make it much more exciting.
My seconded draft has a lot more going on as you can tell compared to
the first draft. I steered away from the original colour theme and
elements and I developed something completely different. I tried to
keep some of the original elements like the faded LIV text and the
black background. I am still not completely happy with this web
banner. I feel like I have included a lot of blue which I wanted to stay
away from and I don’t like that it just advertises surfing and not a range
of extreme sports. This is something I am going to think about in my
next draft. I am not overly happy with these web banner designs. I do
like that it is a lot more interesting than the first draft but It’s not want
I want as my final piece.
36. This is my developed web banner that I have added a gift. I have taken the original
elements of my LIV design and I have still included them within this web banner. I
have kept with the colour scheme because I think this is a trademark for this drink.
I like this design a lot better than my previous ones where there is a surfer coming
out of the can. I feel like that this really demonstrates what this energy drink is
about. It demonstrates that my drink is aimed at people who are in to extreme
sports and almost like if you drink this drink you can do extreme sports. I animated
the slogan on a loop going round in the background and I used the opacity tool to
fade the text so you can just see it in the background. I really like this idea because
it uses the original elements and I am keeping to colour themes etc… The surfer
coming out of the is something that I developed from the last drafts. This shows
more what the drink is about and makes this look a lot more like a web banner
compared to my other drafts.
I developed this idea from when I designed this. I liked the slogan in the background
because it was extreme and this represents my extreme sports energy drink. I tried
putting the slogan on smaller but I don’t think it worked as well as this way. Putting
the slogan this big makes it really in my audiences face and I used ‘your’ to make it
more personal. So making it extreme speaks to my audience because this is a strong
aesthetic quality of my work.
As I am aiming a younger audience the surfer silhouette almost looks like work Banksy
the artist creates and this is something which will attract my audience as Banksy is
trendy and modern which appeals to my audience.
37. Task 8: Web Banner Development
I have developed this web banner from the last web banner by adding
some block colours such as the white. I think this breaks up the black
background but as I have added this I had to take away the gift because
it did not like right and I thought it looked stupid with the web banner. I
do like the gift as it gives my work a professional and interesting element
about it so I need to chose between the block colours and the gift.
39. Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
My work includes lots of technical qualities. I achieved these qualities of on photoshop. My first main technical
quality is the gift that I produced in the background of the web banner. This gift is the slogan of my drink and I
have this going round on a loop in the background. This gift is the most technical aspect of my web banner but
it was surprisingly easy to create. I did this by using the time line tool. This creates layers that you create by
moving your element around the page to the places you can it. This creates a path. You can take control of how
fast the gift moves. It was a really easy way to create a really technical aspect to my work.
The main technical quality of this work is the gift and this is something that I am very proud of creating
technically. Another technical quality of my work is using the opacity tool to create this faded affect on my
slogan in the background. This is a main quality as I needed it to be faded so it stood out in the background. I
used the opacity tool and this tool allowed me to create how much I wanted the slogan to be faded. It was very
easy to use. This is the tool that I used on the right. I was a slider from 0-100. I went for 72% as this is a number
of opacity that I have used throughout my work.
Another technical element of this work was creating the drink coming out
the can. With this I used the rubber tool to create the fad about like haze.
I found this really effective as I took my original stock image and rubbed it out in
to the shape of the wave coming out of the can. This is not a typical way to create this kind of effect but it
worked really well for me. With this method of creating this effect I can take it with me and use it on other
projects. This is something that I have learnt from creating the web banner and a method for creating.
40. Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
When it came to the aesthetic qualities of my work I have tried to keep to the original colour
theme and elements. So I still used black, white and yellow. These qualities look really good on
this web banner because it’s very dark then I have added a plash of colour to make the surfer
stand out. This is really effective because it has made the extreme sports aspect of the drink
made clear. This is the look I wanted to go for. The hint of yellow also creates this trendy and
modern look which I wanted to go because of my target audience. This is the hint of yellow
that I have added in my work. It is really effective and it represents the drink coming out of the
can and then I have added this wave shape so the surfer is almost surfing the drink. It shows
my audience that if they have my energy drink they can do activities like this.
Another strong aesthetic quality is the large slogan in the background which I created as a
gift. As my drink is an extreme sports energy drink I decided to create a extreme slogan in
the background. I used the opacity tool to create the faded looking text. This is really
effective as it’s extreme it represents my drink. I really like the look of this because I have
used the opacity tool a lot in my work and I really like the faded text. It stands out but not
to much that the target audience is distracted by it and can not focus on everything else.
This looks really good on my work. I took influence from lucozade adverts as they use a lot
of text with a low opacity and they have aimed their adverts at a young audience which is
why I have taken some aspects from their work.
When I thought about the way I wanted to my web banner to look. I wanted to keep my
themes and elements that I have used thought all of my products linked to this drink. So I
stayed with the black background because I think this is important for the look of my product
as the qualities that I have put altogether to create this trade mark for my product so my
audience see these certain colours and think about this brand of drink. I got the influence to
do this through when researching Monster energy. They use the same colour theme through
everything so their audience relates their brand these colours. This Is what I aimed to do with
the look of my work. I used qualities that made this specific look for my brand.
41. Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
There are opportunities for further development of my work. I wanted to keep my web banner
simple and not over complicate it. As I used a gift there is a lot going on in my banner but very
little actually there. There is lots of potential development of my work. If I was to develop this
work further I would change the part where the drink is coming is coming out of the can and
going into a wave. How I would change this is I would not just create a wave from the drink but
create different extreme sports coming from out of the drink. I would also try and become more
advanced at photoshop and create the gift so the different extreme sports would come out of the
can and the audience could see them appear. This would be really effective. I have not developed
my worked any more than it is now because I did not want to over complicate the web banner. I
wanted to keep it simple and then use a gift. As I chose to have a huge slogan I wanted this to be
a main focus point so that is why I did not want to add anything that would make my web banner
to busy. That’s why I decided not to develop this web banner any further. If I was to develop it
further one of the main opportunities would be the way the can is used on the banner. I am not
all happy with this. I like it but I think it could be developed to look better.
My final pieces are fit for purpose. For a start it is a typical web banner design so my audience knows what it is.
My gift works and is all lined up and is clean cut. I have added my graphics and it has everything a web banner
should have. I do think this could now be put on the internet and use to advertise my drink which shows that
this web banner is fit for purpose. It is appropriate for doing the job that I have created it for.
42. Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
The areas of planning and development that worked well was at the start when I created a very basic design. I
created a very basic and boring design for my web banner and from this I used it as a starting point then thought
of ways that I could develop it each time I created a new one. This worked really well for me because I could
visually see what looked well together and I could learn from each web banner that I made. This was really
effective and lead me to want to do a sky scraper. I found that it looked a lot more like a web banner. From the
first draft I just kept on adding elements and I changed my design all together as I was not happy with how it was
looking. The development definitely went well because if I did not develop my ideas I would of not of found out
what looked good and what did not. I would of not have achieved my finished product. I planned it out first which
went well as when I came to producing my design I knew where to put the elements of my design. I am really
glad that I did quite a lot of development as I have said previously the first two drafts I really was not happy with
so that’s when I changed my idea all together. Which then started as a very basic design and then I developed
that design and that is how I ended up with the large slogan and I rotated it so it was vertical.
43. Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
An area of planning and development that I should of done more work with was when I decided to do my web
banner as sky scraper design. I should of done more development of this type of design shape for my web
banner. I did two types of banners but If I was to go back and work on this some more. I would try a different
layout design on the sky scraper and put the text and graphics somewhere different. I could of also done more
planning with this. I should of drawn out and done a quick sketch of how the web banner was going to look. This
would have been easier for me when it came to creating the web banner on photoshop. It was hard because I
had never created a web banner before but I did research and go inspirations from power aid. This helped my
plan my product but I should of done more work with this research by looking at sky scraper type web banners I
just looked at regular web banners. This would of given me more inspiration when creating my web banner.
If I had more class time through the planning stages
I would have done more work with picking the type
of web banner. I should of done drafts with a lot to
pick out what worked and what didn’t. Using this
with all the web banner sizes on.
The effect that my development and planning had with my final piece was drastic because the start of my web
banners was nothing like my finished piece and through the development of this work I ended up creating a final
piece which was a lot better than my first drafts. If I didn’t develop my ideas from my first drafts I would be very
unhappy and not impressed with the end result and my development give the overall web banner a positive
effect as knew what worked together such as colour themes and text and I realized what did not such as graphics
and layout styles. My work did change drastically as I changed the design all together but I am happy I did this
because it was more effective towards my end pieces by making it look a lot more suited to me brand of energy
drink.
44. Task 9: Storyboard Development
This is my first draft for my story board. I have
tried to include all elements of my drink in this
advert. It is a first draft so I have kept it very
basic so I can develop on this. I started out with
something normal to demonstrate that anyone
can have this drink then showed what the drink
is wanting you to do. When I develop this advert
I am going to add more boxes and go into more
detail visually with what is happening, So I am
going to add an image in between each
individual image. This is so my advert is clear
visually. I am pleased with the concept of this
advert. The advert is about a women who is just
doing a normal sport of jogging and she buys a
LIV energy and drinks it then she starts to glow
and becomes very smiley and active, The camera
then zooms up to the top of her head and then
He head starts exploding with her thinking about herself doing all these extreme sports. The background music is
Fall out boy- My songs know what you did in the dark and it plays quiet until she starts to get the exploding head
of her imagination and the music gets louder and gets faster. The women then runs back home and the scene
changes to her running down a beach but you can only see her feat. The camera then zooms out and she is
running down the beach with a surfboard and towards the sea. The audience can just see the back of her and the
can just comes up on in the foreground. A voice over which is a mans voice says LIV …. ON YOUR EDGE. This advert
is getting across a message from the drink which is telling the audience to go down these sports and experience
and try different things. The girl in the advert is going to be a young girl so my target audience have a connection
with this girl being a similar age. This draft is promising and following the plot this is exactly what I want. So I nee
to focus on creating the storyboard visually.
45. Task 9: Storyboard Development
Advert part 1…
This is the first part of my advert. I have tried to consistently use the same type of graphics all
the way through. When my advert is broadcasted it will be real and an actor will be playing the
main women. I have for now used a cartoon effect to demonstrate my advert visually.
49. Task 9: Storyboard Evaluation
In my work there are opportunities in some areas for further development but I do not think these further
development opportunities are necessary because my storyboard fully shows visually and by writing what is going
on. I have 12 different boxes in my storyboard and I have created an image in each that shows exactly what is
going on. I do no thin they need any more developing as it could become very confusing and repetitive. One
opportunity that I could take to develop my work would be in the last few boxes, add more boxes of the camera
lens zooming out of the graphic. This would be really effective as you would be able to see this transition more
vividly but I equally think this part of my story board works well with three boxes showing this idea because you
understand the idea and how it is happening without over complicating it. I would not development anything
because this is how I want my storyboard to be and although there could be some opportunities I think my
storyboard could look a lot more complicated than it is and I do not want that.
My final storyboard is fit for purpose. For a start it’s purpose is to show an advert step by step that potentially will
be broadcasted on TV. My advert fits this purpose as I have used step by step boxes of 12 to go through an advert
and show what is going on in each box. I added text at the bottom to show what was happening in more detail.
Through this you can definitely see how the advert will appear when broadcasted and created. So this is definitely
fits its purpose to show what the TV advert will be like. It is clear and is exactly how a storyboard should be.
50. Task 9: Storyboard Evaluation
When creating this storyboard. The areas of planning and development which worked well was at the start when
I created a very basic storyboard. I used this method of development and planning with he rest of my products. I
started off creating a very basic storyboard to get a picture of what it could look like. I then from this decided
what worked well and what did not. In this case this development showed me to stick to the storyboard looking
in a cartoon way so I stuck with this. Then developed my storyboard to change parts back to cartoon form. This
method of planning showed me how many boxes I needed to create to show my advert vividly. It worked really
well because I was able to create rough idea of what I needed in my story board and then develop my work from
this to create this overall result. It did work really well which I am very pleased about.
I took inspiration from this type of cartoon storyboard however I
have no speaking through mine. So I did not have to add speech
bubbles. I liked this cartoon affect so I tired to follow this kind of
look. Developing my storyboard from an already finished
storyboard work really well as I knew that this kind of look worked
well.
However with this storyboard I should of done more work with the development of the seconded draft. I ran out of class
time to be able to develop the seconded draft because it took quite a long to create as there are so many boxes. If I had
more time I would of spent more work on developing this draft by adding some more boxes towards the end of the
storyboard to show how one element of it is shown better. I do like my storyboard overall as finished piece but I think some
more work on this could have been better on the finished piece. If I had more class time I would of developed and made
more work and created a third draft but It took a long time to create a seconded draft that I ran out of time and It was not
going to work If I made a third. I am happy with my finished storyboard it Is exactly as I wanted it to be. Overall the
development stages did have a lot of effect on the finished piece. As from the first draft I realized what I wanted and what
worked and what did not and I created the seconded draft by using all the elements that I wanted to develop my work with
and this changed my final piece drastically as I had created more boxes to show what was going on and this drastically
changed the lay out and look of my final piece which meant that the first part of development helped me create this and
effectively change the storyboard in a positive way.
