- The document outlines the process of designing two social media app concepts - "Imagine" and "Snap Attack".
- It includes mind maps of initial ideas, hand-drawn drafts of the app interfaces, descriptions of the final concepts including target audiences and features, and Photoshop drafts of key pages like signup and profiles.
- The document concludes by selecting the "Imagine" app concept which is a creative writing app, as it came together with a good layout and professional color scheme, and the logo fits well for a writing focused social media platform.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

4. Hand Drawn Drafts
Here are my hand drawn drafts for the social media app
‘Imagine’. I used a colour scheme of light orange and white ,
which is a similar colour scheme to the app “Wattpad” only
they use a darker shade of orange. Similar to it rival app it is
a creative writing app, for people who are struggling with
everyday life they can just write down their feeling, as
someone else or a character which will make them feel a lot
better. The app will also have privacy settings and you will
be able to leave feedback to other writers.
5. Hand Drawn Drafts
Here are my hand drawn drafts for the social media app ‘Snap Attack
’. I used a colour scheme of dark red and black as these two colours
work well together, also that red is my favorited colour. This app will
be similar to ‘Instagram’ as you will be able to post photos, leave
comments and have your own story as well. But my app will be for
photographers who want to become bigger and better, by
collaborating with other photographers who share the same passion
as them.
6. Final Two Ideas (Imagine)
The Name of my app will be called ‘ imagine’ , because there is no limit to what you
can write about whether it be good or bad. The app will have a similar Colour Scheme
to WattPad but a much lighter orange and white. The Font Style I will be using is
called “HAND” which I found on ‘Dafont’ just because it flows well and works with
the layout of the app. Also for my slogan I used the font style called “Child Writing”
from the same website ‘Dafont’. For my product the main Purpose will be to get more
people into creative writing and not be afraid to show their talent off. It will help
make people less stressed and get out their emotions they have bottled up inside.
The apps Content will be similar to WattPad, as it is another form of creative writing
that people can post for others to see. The Unique Selling Point for my App is to Gain
more friend by sharing a similar passion , and giving each other ideas to inspire a new
story. As for my Target Audiences will be amide towards young adults and above, as
they tend to be the most stressed ;and what they may read means they are not the
only ones going through a hard time someone is sharing the same pain as them. My
target audience will be from the age 17 and above as they will be able to understand
the situation and not over think or be put off about it.
7. Final Two Ideas (Snap Attack )
The Name of my app will be called ‘ Snap Attack’ , because it is quick and snappy
you will be on the ball and get them good photos . The app will have a Colour
Scheme of dark red and black. The Font Style I will be using is called “snappy
service” which I found on ‘Dafont’ just because it flows well and works with the
layout of the app. Also for my slogan I used the font style called “Quickier ” from
the same website ‘Dafont’. For my product the main Purpose of my app will be for
photographers who want to become bigger and better, by collaborating with other
photographers who share the same passion as them. The apps Content will be
similar to Instagram, as it is another form of photography that people can post for
others to see. The Unique Selling Point for my App is to Gain more friend by
sharing a similar passion , and giving each other ideas to inspire a certain shoot or
get recognized in the higher industry . As for my Target Audiences will be amide
towards young adults and above, as they tend to be the ones who need the most
help to get recognized for their talents as they would have just left collage or sixth
form. My target audience will be from the age 17 and above as they will be able to
understand the situation and not over think or be put off about it.
8. Colour Scheme And Logo
For “Imagine” social media app I
will be using the colour scheme
of light orange and white . I will
also be using the font style
“HAND” which I found on
‘Dafont just because it flows
well and works with the layout
of the app. The reason why I am
not changing the font is because
you will want people to
recognise what the house style
is straight away. For my logo I
will be using the first letter of
which the app is called for
example “I” for “Imagine”.
9. Colour Scheme And Logo
For “Snap Attack” social media
app I will be using the colour
scheme of dark red and black .
The font style I will be using is
“snappy service” which I found
on ‘Dafont’ just because it flows
well and works with the layout
of the app. The reason why I am
not changing the font is because
you will want people to
recognise what the house style
is straight away. For my logo I
will be using the first letter of
which the app is called for
example “S” for “Snap Attack”.
10. Photo Shop Drafts “Imagine”
For my graphic layout ‘sign up’ page I went with a busy
background , filled of different book covers to help I've
inspiration to writers to create new and existing stories. I have
also placed a home button in the left hand corner using the
style font “child writing” and placed it on top of a light orange
box. I also created the “sign in” button in the right hand corner
which when sighed up it will take you to your profile page. I
have my logo name across the top using the same font , along
with my slogan underneath using the font style “Child Writing”.
In the middle of the page I have the “username” and
underneath that I have “password” which will aloud the user
to enter into their account. Underneath that I then have a help
button in case they forget their password an email can be sent
to create a new password. At the bottom of the page I have an
image of an open book because every story has to start
somewhere. Also in the left hand corner created a copyright
mark, so no other creators can take my work.
11. Photo Shop Drafts “ Imagine” ( Continuation)
With my profile page I went with a similar layout , by
using the same font style and colour scheme. My profile
page layout I made a library which displaces the work
the reader has created . I also created a section which
displaces the most popular books that the reader
created , a comments section which presents positive
comments on the readers books . Finally I created a
private library where the reader can read book without
being embarrassed of what they have chosen to read.
12. Photo Shop Drafts “Snap attack”
For my graphic layout ‘sign up’ page I went with a plain
background , I have also placed a home button in the left hand
corner using the style font “snappy service” and placed it on
top of a deep red box.. I also created the “sign in” button in the
right hand corner which when sighed up it will take you to your
profile page. I have my logo name across the top using the
same font , along with my slogan underneath using the font
style “Quickier”. In the middle of the page I have the
“username” and underneath that I have “password” which will
aloud the user to enter into their account. Underneath that I
then have a help button in case they forget their password an
email can be sent to create a new password. On the sides I
have images that will be placed on a continues loop showing
different peoples work. Also in the left hand corner created a
copyright mark, so no other creators can take my work.
13. Photo Shop Drafts “Snap attack” (Continuation)
With this profile / home page I again
went with a similar font style and colour
scheme. I add a camera icon which will
allow the device to open up your camera
on your phone or laptop, in order to take
photos. I also created a stories which
each user will have , so they can update
what they are doing at different parts of
the day. I also created a post to displace
what type of content the user can post
as a rough outline , along with the user
icon and a likes button on their post.
14. Conclusion
To conclude I have chosen to go with my ‘imagine’ design idea as it has
a good layout , and a professional colour scheme. Also the logo came
out better than I imagined and fits really well with my writing app.
