1. Question 5
How did you attract your target
audience?
Throughout this slideshow I will be
explaining how my magazine attracted
my target audience of 30-45 males, who
grew up with Rock n Roll.
3. 1. The Title is bold and simple making it appeal to an older audience. “Rock of Ages” would make it
appeal to people of an older age as it suggests people of all ages can enjoy my product.
2. The simple colour scheme of black/white and red would attract my audience for two reasons.
Firstly it is a standard rock colour scheme, but also an older audience would appreciate a simple,
sophisticated colour scheme.
3. Here I made up a rock star who would appeal to my target market. By positioning him at the top of
the magazine and having him make eye contact he will immediately stand out on a shelf in a shop.
4. Using an interview would appeal more to my audience than a younger audience as a younger one
wouldn't’t have the patience to read 4-5 pages of text. However the audience I’m aiming at will
have no trouble with this.
5. I dressed my model in a plain leather jacket. This is not something you would expect to see a
younger person wearing thus it fits my audience. Plus a leather jacket is traditional rock n roll also
making it appeal to my audience.
6. Finally I decided to add what other famous bands and artists that would have been big when my
audience was growing up. This nostalgia would encourage them to purchase my magazine.
7. Including free posters inside is slightly risky as my audience aren’t the type of people to stick
posters up on there bedroom walls. However, including free giveaways isn't going to discourage
anyone.
8. Any target audience would appreciate a free cd with there magazine as it can give them an idea of
what the band there reading about is like and they wouldn't’t have to worry about making an extra
purchase.
9. Having a quote from Led Zeppelin at the top would encourage my audience to buy my magazine as
they would want to see what this classic rock band had too say. Plus by having it at the top when
its on shop shelves it will be seen by everyone as the top is almost always on display. This is why
my magazine is more top heavy with adverts than raw information.
5. 1. Here I have included the date in a simple bold way whilst including the rock n roll colour
scheme .
2. I advertised a subscription to my magazine as my target audience would be keen on
saving money. I also made sure key words like “Save 15%” and “Subscribe” stood out so
that my audience would notice these first and be drawn in.
3. Here I included a feature about a band my audience would of grown up with. This would
trigger there nostalgia thus making my magazine appealing.
4. Here I took a picture of Ryan Prout and made it into a black and white threshold. This
looks classy and sophisticated, like my target audience.
5. Here I pointed out the regulars that would frequently appear in my magazine. By doing
this it ensures that the audience have something of there interest to look forward to each
month.
6. Here I added a photo of a new upcoming band. This is appealing as my audience can see
that the genre that they loved when they were younger is still alive in some people.
7. 1. Here I have added the features name in the top right in a way that is bold and clear.
2. Including a guitar here would please my target audience as they would generally have an
interest for guitars.
3. This is the bands name, it is shown in a simple, bold and clear way. This is because the
market I am aiming my product at will be into simple and straight to the point images.
Rather than something flashy and distracting.
4. Here I used a quote from the article. This would intrigue people to read the article. Plus by
referencing sex and drugs it suits the stereotypical rock n roll lifestyle and would appeal to
my audience.
5. The lead guitarist is wearing a Jack Daniels top. This would suit my target audience as there
old men who enjoy whisky.
6. At the top of the spread I added bold text announcing a new album and the name “Big
Booty Bitches”. Like the bands name, the album title is comical. This would appeal to my
target audiences sense of humor.
7. The lead singer is wearing a leather jacket with nothing underneath. Similar to my front
cover a leather jacket is typically associated with rock n roll, thus appealing to my audience.
8. Finally at the bottom is a lot of text. This wouldn't’t be suitable if my magazine was aimed
at a younger audience. However my audience will have a good reading skill and enjoy this
layout.
