The student will produce a music magazine plan including a masthead, content page, and double page spread layout. They will create the layouts by hand and photograph them to upload on their blog. They will then pitch their magazine plan to their media teacher. The masthead will be called "Dope" to appeal to youth culture. It will feature an upcoming artist wearing trendy "thug" clothing on the cover. The content page will include two columns listing the magazine contents and feature the artist in designer clothes. The target audience is youth interested in hip hop and R&B music.

1. I will be producing a music magazine plan which will include masthead, content
page and a double spread page. Also I would have to create the layout of the
masthead, content page and double spread- I will do this by hand and take
pictures and upload it on my blog. Subsequently I would have to pitch my plan to
my media teacher.

2.  The masthead of my music magazine is going to be called ‘dope’ because the word
dope is not recognised by the other people and it is only used by young people. Also
the word dope presents youth culture which would instantly attract them. The word
dope fits in the genre of my music as it used by artist such as jay-z, Kanye west and j
Cole. By doing this, my music magazine would immediately get ratings from the
audience which is the aim. The colour of my magazine masthead would be black as
black stands out with every other colour and the colour black would link with the
white/grey background; also the black colour would make the masthead look
professional and mature. I will be locating the masthead in the middle for people to
realize as it is not known by other people, also it would stand out as I plan to put the
image be hide the masthead.
 The main image would be a mid-shot which would not be too close to the face but
close enough for the audience to see the artist face. My main image would be a
picture of a coming artist, which would relate to my masthead. The image will have to
relate to the masthead by wearing clothing that thugs wear- this would attract the
audience even more as young people always want to wear the trending cloths. Also,
the image would take up the whole front cover which would make the image very
visible and I didn’t chose to have different images because that takes the main focus
of the main image. Also I wouldn’t have many props on the main image because it
takes the focus of the main image and can sometimes look unprofessional if it makes
the magazine look busy- which is not what I’m aiming for. Also I would have the artist
wearing make-up which would make them look professional as they always do on
other magazine e.g. vibe. The background of the main image always should be light
to make the image and the masthead stand out.

3.  The models on the front cover would be someone attractive which could
catch the reader’s eyes, for example I would use a woman wearing thug
clothing which is showing some legs to get the reader’s attention which
would instantly sale my magazine. The reason why I picked a woman is
that it would attract both male and female audience which would
increase the ratings on my magazine.
 The cover line is going to be a bright colour such as blue or purple to
make the magazine stand out as it has a light background and I would
make sure that some of the cover line colour is in black to link with the
black masthead. The location of the cover line would be in two columns
to make it not look busy because that’s not what I’m aiming for, and it
would be located on the right hand side. The main cover line would be
in the middle of the magazine to make sure that the audience know what
the magazine is about. I would make sure that the main cover line and
the cover line are in bold font to make them stand out. I would also
include a pull quote to inform the readers on more information which
would make them more curious- this would make them buy the
magazine. Also I would make sure that the cover line is an interesting
cover line because young people tend to be interesting in image than
writing and to make them read more I would shorten the magazine and
use some slang language to make it easier for them and more playful.

4.  The magazine would include a header to inform them on the other
artist that would be included within the magazine; this would make
sure that the magazine is not only focusing on one main artist also
this would attract more reader that are interested with the artist on
the header. The colour of the header is going to be a bright colour
which would make the masthead stand out as it is in black also I
would locate the header on top of the masthead because it is a
common thing which popular magazine such as XXl and vibe do.
This would donate a more professional look to the magazine.
 The audience of the magazine would be young people as I'm more
confident and familiar with this type of audience. Also young people
between the age of 16-28 are more likely to access the computer to
buy online magazine and more interested within the music genre my
music magazine is concentrated on

5.  The price of the magazine would be an affordable price because young people buy
items which are cheaper, because they tend to save their money to buy other thing
such as cloths or a new game. Also if my magazine is a cheap price the popularity
of the magazine would expand so many people would buy it. The magazine would
roughly cost 4.50 which are still expensive for some young people which are why I
was considering lowering the price to 3.50 which is an affordable price for
everyone.
 In order for my magazine to sale or any magazine to sale, it must have a producer
by an institution. To choose the right producer, i did some background research
on the producer and picked the best experienced producer. The best example i
found was Bauer media; which produced many other brand magazine such as bike.
However the best brand which would suit the type of genre I’m interested in is
kiss. Kiss also has an online website, radio, tv, and mobile. This connotes that the
popularity of the magazine is very in high demand. Also, they produced products
for artists which the fans would then by which means the artist gains more
popularity. And i researched about Q which also concentrated on the genre which
i was interested in however, they sometimes created rock music which i wasn’t
interested in.

6.  The content page would include one main image, the image would catch
the reader’s eyes quickly because it would be a wide-shot which is
showing everything to make the artist connect with the reader, also the
wide-shot would show the surroundings of the artist/model which
would make the readers more comfortable and interested as they know
where the artist goes. The content page would include two columns
which would be talking about what’s included in the magazine. The
colours on the content page would be the same as the font cover to
continue the professional look. The artist would be wearing designer
clothing which would donate the wealth the artist has gained through
the music industry.
 The genre of my music magazine would be hip pop and R&B- which
would attract audience who only listen to this type of music. I chose this
genre of music because most young people are familiar with this type of
music as it plays on the radio and television. Also i have more
knowledge and more interest within this genre which would make it
easier for me to base my magazine on this type of genre

7.  Case studies helped me to decide the colour scheme, layout, and
masthead. For example XXL magazine used dark background
colours to make the main image to stand, so I will be using dark
background to make my images stand out. Vibe magazine used
different images throughout the magazine and had a detailed cover
lines which I will be using too. Both magazine used large masthead,
long shot for the front cover of the magazine-which I plan to
use.Both magazine helped me to decide my target audience. XXL
and Vibe both had employed, educated, young audience so I will be
aiming for my audience to be similar.

8.  Dope magazine would have Twitter/Facebook page where the
audience can feed back and ask questions. – this would help the
magazine to improve
 Dope would have prizes which the audience can win; these prizes
would include a holiday to New York city
 Dope magazine would have fashion shows and comedian night were
famous hip-hop stars would join the audience- this would gain the
magazine more popularity and it would earn more money
 Dope magazine would give out gifts such as CD’s, concert tickets
and challenges which the audience can join in to win a prize such as
have a V.I.P ticket to their favourite artist

9. This font looks very presentable because it
has a creative side to it which makes it look
very cool to the audience. Also the gaps
between the letters look very unique and
different. I would use this font because it’s
different from other magazine masthead

presentable. The font doesn’t look unique as
anyone could have done it. Also I wouldn’t use
this font as it doesn’t relate to magazine
this font looks presentable as it’s bold which
is what I was aiming for, because it would
attract young audience. However I wouldn’t
use this font as it doesn’t look unique.
