- The author has chosen "Music Mayhem" as the title for their magazine about pop music. Their focus group felt this title was stronger than others considered and suggests enjoyable, fun content about pop music.
- Pop music was chosen as the genre focus because the author is most interested in and knowledgeable about pop, and feels they can attract fans of other genres as well. Pop appeals to a large audience.
- The target audience is males and females ages 11-16. The author wants to make the magazine appealing to both genders by avoiding a focus only on typically "female" topics like makeup and fashion.
Questionnaire results

- 1. Masthead The masthead is very bold and eye-catching. It is quite simple but undoubtedly effective. The placement of Q’s masthead is a little unconventional as it is not along the top of the page as with other music magazines. It is however positioned in the corner on each issue which gives consistency and familiarity. It also helps creates branding for the magazine and helps to enhance its reputation. The main image very slightly covers the masthead and this is a code and convention of Q magazine. The colour of red is part of the colour scheme so it all looks attractive. Main image The main image is a close up shot of Noel Gallagher who is likely to be instantly recognisable for the majority of music fans. This helps attract Oasis fans and music fans in general. The image uses direct address because he is staring directly at the camera which adds to the personal feel of the magazine and its quite powerful to the reader. The grab quote acts as anchorage text for the main image as his face shows the feelings he has towards the trauma. The layout of the front cover is really clear and not congested like some magazines. The main image is positioned in the centre to make it highly effective. Rule of thirds Rule of thirds is used to draw the readers attention to the most important parts and to define separate sections. Cover lines The cover lines are similar to the rest of the cover as they are clear and easy to read. They stick to the main colour scheme of red, black and white but they have changed the size of the font to create a sense of importance. The artists featured in the cover lines are all in red except Oasis because they are the main feature. The cover lines are kept brief but are good for the audience to see if their favourite artists are featured in the magazine. Colour scheme The magazine sticks to the main three colours of black, red and white. Three colours that are bold and stand out whilst not signifying one particular gender. This allows them to appeal to a large target audience of both female and male and aged generally between 17-30. Price The price is £3.99 and this is fairly expensive but it is within the price range of the target audience of 17-30 year olds. The size of the magazine is good so the audience will be mostly happy to pay this knowing there is a large amount of content. This is a price that is roughly average for a music magazine. Issue date Readers like to know a little about the magazine so the issue date is put on. This can then be used to help readers collect the older magazines if they enjoy this copy. They can also be sure if this is the latest copy. Slogan The slogan “The world’s greatest music magazine” is succinct and appealing.
