1. Music magazine research and planning: task 1.
1.What is a music magazine?
Content: music, it often sticks to one type of
music e.g. Kerrang covers rock and only writes
about that genre and sub genres of rock.
Audience: magazines try to persuade the audience
to read, but often appeal to people who are
already fans of the genre and puts bands/ artists
on the cover that the audience are familiar with
or like.
Purpose: Advertising, entertainment and
information.
The primary purpose is to entertain.
2. 2.What content would you expect to find?
You would expect to see images of artists and
possibly instruments, you would expect to see a
masthead and text boxes filled with information
about the artists and other musicians.
3. Question 3; You would expect to see images of the
artist and images of setting such as concert
studios this is done to show the audience the
image which the band want to put out, it may
influence the fans clothing, bedroom and choices
when choosing things for themselves.
4. Question 4: You would generally expect to
see a masthead to show what the magazine
is and this open helps to sum up what
genre it is, an image so the audience can
pick out if its someone they recognise.
You would expect to see a selling line or
something that is going to make you want
to read the magazine.
5. Question 5: they all have popular artists
on the front and a cover line, they all
pretty much follow the classic setting of
a magazine apart from billboard that has
a sideways title which breaks the mould,
which contrasts it main stream audience.
6. Question 6: They are important because
they help identify what the magazine is
and the audience that it is trying to
reach out to, if it has heart on it is
obviously for little girls and if its
slick its for an older audience.
7. Question 7:The type of music in this is rock
its sub genre of the front artist is metal-
core. You can tell this from the other
bands, the outfit, people and kerrang is a
well known rock magazine.
8. • Question 8: The target audience of the
magazine is lovers of rock, due to the
layout you would conclude that the layout
of the magazine was masculine and so is
for men, but today society's norms are
changing and many girls find this magazine
more appealing than something pink and
fluffy, It is for teenagers to early
adults and targets people who are already
fans and doesn’t preach on what you should
and shouldn’t be listening to.
