Evaluation question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
One feature of my magazine that will attract my audience is the
colour scheme that I have chosen. The most prominent colours
in my magazine are red and gold. Theses colours can be found
all over the magazine and on all of is pages. They are included
in the magazine house style and will be featured in each issue
to come. The reason for me choosing these two specific colours
is that they closely relate to the rock genre and are what attract
most people to my magazine. For example, gold is used to
connote royalty in the rock gods such as Van Halen and AC/DC,
whereas the red is used to show the anger and rebellious
nature which comes with being a rock star. In addition, I did
not want to go for the typical red and black as that would seem
too cliché and is seen in many other magazines.
Another feature that helps appeal to my audience is the
skyline, which reads “free posters inside”. I have chosen to use
these as it gives the consumer even more reason to purchase
the magazine, as the band that is displayed in the picture may
be one who appeals to a large target audience. Furthermore,
the fact that the posters are “free” shows that the magazine
wants to give something to the readers for free for supporting
their magazine and buildsloyalty with its readers.
With the main image on my front cover, I have told my model
to look directly into the camera. This creates direct address
and makes the reader have a connection with the model and
entices people to read the article, which is written about him
so that you are able to discover something new about him.
The main cover line “Joe Torreno the past, present and future”
has been specifically designed to attract the audience to buy
the magazine as it creates and enigma code of, what is his life
like? This, in theory, should make the reader want to continue
reading further and discover the questions, which have been
raised on the front cover. Moreover, the main cover line gives
the main image context and is helpful in putting a name to a
face that the reader has been given.
The sticker on my magazine reads “free 15 track CD inside”.
This adds a unique selling point to my magazine, similar to the
free posters that are in it, people
will be more inclined to purchase
my magazine ii tomes with extras
that they do not have to pay for
compared to buying the CD on its
own.
