Working Title:
Scary Space Game
Audience:
Our target audience is ranging between 16 – 21 years old. However, I think that my game would
appeal to all ages because it isn’t violent and you there are many levels differing in difficulty and
this would appeal to all ages because there would be a level for everyone that is achievable but
also challenging, and as you progress through the game it gets harder which is where it would be
more enticing for the older audience members. Also, the character is based on the Toy Story
aliens which will attract the older and younger audience because for the older audience they will
remember the first Toy Story films whereas the younger will know the newest version of the film
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout the year my Photoshop skills have improved from when I first started for example I
didn’t know how to create an animation using the timeline on Photoshop and this has helped in this
project because it allowed me to create little animations using the pixels and seeing how I could
improve it, this is something I will use in either this project or a future project that includes 2D
animation. Additionally, I have also learned more about getting the colours on Photoshop using the
ink dropping tool and I will use this to create different colour schemes for my pre-production, and
this tool allows me to get the same shade of many different colours which will be helpful when
creating my game as it will allow me to have many shades of loads of different colours. I have also
learned how to create sounds for the 2D animation using Beep Box, and this is a website where
you can create the music for the game and alter certain sound effects and this is something I will
use in my final project as I think it will be effective and the website is also easy to use.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my project is a 2D side scrolling game. The theme of the game is space and the
character will be based of the aliens from the Toy Story franchise and in proportion to the location
the character will be small and this is because it doesn’t include too much detail but it will still look
effective furthermore it is set in different mazes where you have to get to the end however through
the maze there are enemies/things you have to combat to get through, there are also items you
need to collect for example there will be a gun to help attack the enemies and in result of this you
will gain more points, all the points add up from different levels and it allows you to buy future
levels that are more difficult etc., also in the top left of the game there will be a lives bar to show
you how many lives you have left and this lets the player know when to take a risk and attack the
enemy or try and avoid it. Once you have completed the level you can either replay it to try and get
more points or you can move onto the next level which will be more difficult, for this I will need to
research multiple 2D side scrolling games as this will help me know how to make it work or what
point of view to use. I will also look at pixel versions of the aliens as this will allow me to recreate
the alien in detail and making it look as accurate as possible.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
In Production Reflections, I plan to keep track on my progress with how far I’m getting in
production and if it is going to plan or if I have had to change a few things. In the evaluation, I plan
to look at all of the work I have done and not just the final product and discuss what I have done
well and what could be improved. This will help me in the future because it will allow me to go into
more detail when writing evaluations and it will also show me what I will need to work on in future
projects.
