Project proposal title and date:
Melanie 8th January 2021
Main area of activity:
Video
Rationale:
I have made multiple projects that have been a key learning experience over the last two years that
I can now apply to this project. For example I have done a couple projects focusing on moving
image such as a music video and a factual project, whilst doing these video projects I have become
more confident when using a camera and also various Adobe software such as Premier Pro and
Photoshop which is a video editing software and I have learnt the basics in creating a film as well
as more complicated techniques such as masking and using keyframing to change the speed of a
certain clip or the rotation and not have it alter the rest of the video. Another beneficial project will
be the audio project as the concept for this project will include many sound effects, dialogue and
music and these are techniques that I included in my audio project and therefore I will be able to
apply these to this project and blend everything together to create a well-rounded final project.
Project Concept:
The concept for this project is to create a short documentary looking into the notion of beauty
standards and people’s perception of beauty. To do this I am going to be selecting people to
interview, I will chose people with a variety of ages to allow different views be shown and this
way it makes it relatable to a wider group of people. Due to the coronavirus restrictions I am
unable to go out and film people so I have come up with the idea of getting people to interview
themselves and to make sure each interview looks similar I will send out a list of instructions
alongside the questions stating how I want the footage to look. I would then edit it to be similar to
a talking heads style because it gives off more of a conversation rather than a strict interview. The
aim for the interviews are I want to open a discussion on the topic of beauty but not just for women
but everybody because I think it can differ between different groups of people so I think it is
important to include everybody’s opinions because beauty shouldn’t be restricted to one group of
people. The most important part of this will be the pre-production process because this will where
I create the shot list and I have a clear image of certain shots I want to include so being able to
write down what I envisage will be crucial in terms of getting ready for production. I will need to
do further research on the themes that Perry explores in his artwork so I can then focus on what
themes to base my film off of, I also want to look at some other short film that explore these
themes to see if I can take one of their ideas and tie it into what I plan on doing and this will also
allow me to see how they’ve used sounds because that’s another thing I want to focus on is being
able to have clear diegetic sounds to create an immersive experience where the audience feel in
that scene. In terms of audience I am going to do a PowerPoint solely on audience research and
interview people of different ages etc and collect data to come up with a defined target audience.
Howwill the project be evaluated and reviewed:
With this project I plan on making a vlog every week referencing what I have done throughout the
week, which will allow me to have a ‘diary’ for when it comes to the written evaluation so I can go
into a good amount of detail. I will also be making weekly vlogs discussing what I have done that
week and what went well and what didn’t go too well by doing these vlogs I will be able to
compare this project with previous projects and how I have improved and what I could have done
to make it better. I will also get other people’s opinions on this project from a range of ages to see
what people think of it and whether or not it fits to what I was trying to make as well as getting
feedback from my tutor. This process will allow me to reflect on everything I have learnt and
discuss what I need to work on for university and see what my strengths and weaknesses are and
how I can improve them.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production  Proposal and background research
2 Pre-production  Research- primary and secondary
3 Pre-production  Research- primary and secondary
4 Pre-production  Experiments – Look into how to do a broken
mirror effect using Photoshop and then making it
move in After Effects
5 Pre-production  Experiments continued
6 Pre-production  Pre-Production and planning – Start with a
rationale summarising what I am making. I want
to look into some colour schemes and Music to
use in my project
7 Pre-production  Pre-Production and planning – Start drawing up
the storyboards and finalising everything with the
planning
8 Production  First week of filming send out the questions to
people and give them one or two weeks to send
back the responses
9 Production  Still waiting for the responses but start the
introduction using stock free images, or I might
take my own but this would mean getting a lot of
photos of different people which might not be
