2. Presentation
As part of my project my work is going to be presented in York
Museum Trust so there has been a lot of work to regarding the
presentation. We haven't had a big impact on the way the work is
going to be presented however we have had some meetings to
discuss how the work is going to look and the type of format it needs
to be in. In this PowerPoint I am going to explore and discuss the
factors that have contributed to the presentation of my project.
3. York Museum Trust
This is the empty space where our
pieces are going to be shown, it is
situated at the top of the gallery and it is
visible from when you walk through the
door.
Like the writing on the wall in this image there
is going to be some writing here that discusses
our work with the gallery and a summary of
what we’ve done and how it started and what
we were asked to do
The piece Melanie is going to be on either
the black or red box, she will be in the center
and the main piece at the top of the gallery.
This is good for my piece as it is about
Melanie and the screen will be in the same
area which is beneficial to me as the
audience will be able to reference back to
the actual piece.
4. We had some input on the label and what it was
going to be called, the final being ‘Pondering Perry’.
We also had to write a short statement for the plinth
that is going to be on one of the stands, I spoke about
how working with the art gallery has been fun and I
enjoyed and I mentioned about creating a piece that
people can relate to and to start a conversation. As
part of our presentation there is going to be a draw of
our work and some screenshots from my piece so
people are able to see how it was put together. The
gallery decided on the color scheme and the layout of
things however we have full control of what goes in
the draw and what we said on the plinth.
5. YMT
Working with Sarah Yates from the YMT has been an enjoyable and
beneficial experience. I had to change a few things about my project to suit
with what the gallery wanted, this is because what I had chosen wasn’t
necessarily the best choice for accessibility reasons. At first I had written
white text on a very pale background and even though I could read it, it
would be difficult to show in a gallery so I fixed this by using black text with a
white box behind which worked better than I thought. I also had to change
the font from a serif font to a sans serif font as it could be proved difficult to
read, in the end I chose the Franklin Gothic font as this was the font that the
gallery used so I thought it would good if the two fonts matched. At first I
wasn’t too sure with the changes but then after I had made them I realized it
looked better and it meant it was more accessible to people which is an
important factor especially as it is being shown in a public place. As this
project is going to be part of the exhibition we had to work from a timeframe
which has been stressful but it has been a good learning experience for
what the future industry is going to be like, due to working to a time frame I
was able to receive feedback on everything I had done and I was able to get
in contact if needed. We had to work to a strict timeframe to get the piece in
before the exhibition starts and this is so that they can subtitle the piece and
make it easier for those with disabilities to access my video.
6. Website -
https://spark.adobe.com/page/NpafMfnfLvvGa/
Using Adobe Spark I have created a website dedicated to my piece, I
have used a picture of Melanie as the background and I added some of
the close ups so there is a correlation between the video and the website.
I added a bit of detail about what inspired me to make the project and
what it is about, I wanted it to be simple and only have a little bit of detail
about the piece as writing a lot wouldn’t be necessary and I think I have
achieved this.

9. YouTube
I have uploaded my piece to YouTube, I have uploaded it as unlisted
so I have to give the link to people so they can access it. We had to
export the video as a 1080p for the art gallery which makes it a good
sixe for YouTube so it doesn’t cut out any parts of the video. I am going
to change it so it is public and therefore it can be accessed by more
people, I was going to subtitle it but it meant going through the piece
and typing it out and due to the time I didn’t have time to do this. I do
think that it is easily accessible to people as the audio is clear and
focused and the music is quiet enough to be able to hear this so
subtitling shouldn’t be an issue.
10. Twitter
I created a twitter account for my
piece, this is because it is more
beneficial to create a twitter account
than an instagram account as it is
easier to use and find for people. I
used the same image that I used as
a background for my website and
the image for the YouTube video,
this way there’s a clear distinction
between what I have made and you
can see that they all correlate
between each other. In the bio I put
a little bit about the project and
what it entails, it was limited to 160
characters so I had to share the
video via an individual tweet rather
than having the link in the bio.
11. Appropriate Techniques
The way I have promoted my final piece is appropriate as I have created a
website and a social media account to go alongside the piece in the gallery.
By having a website and a social media account I am able to use a link to the
YouTube video so people are able to access it, I can also share this link via
my own social media alongside the twitter account and the website so it can
reach more people. By promoting this piece in the art gallery this is the main
part of the presentation as I have been able to create a piece of work that is
going to be shown as part of an exhibition that will reach many people, it will
also be available on their own website so people who cant get to the gallery
are still able to watch it. I don’t believe that entering into a film festival is
appropriate as the piece is better understood as part of the exhibition and it
would make more sense than being a stand alone piece. I was thinking of
creating an instagram account however I decided that this wouldn’t be the
best way to promote it as it doesn’t work as clearer as twitter does as twitter
resembles a layut of a website so it is easier to find the video. Overall I
believe I have chosen the appropriate way of promoting this piece to make
sure it reaches an audience.
