Working Title:
Chaos N Carnage
Audience:
My target audience is people around the same age as me. Therefore, my target audience will be
young adults around the ages of 18 to 20+. Since my game is going to be 18 rated as it will have
violence in it as well as be made for a mature audience. I would say the game is for both male and
female because, I will have selectable characters giving the player options as to who they want to
play as. There will be at least 4 characters, however only one will be shown playing. I would say
that my game is based for males as it is a horror survival game which is more popular with males.
The social status of my audience will be working class as my game will not require a powerful pc
neither will it require lots of space. It will also be fairly cheap. One of the reasons I think that my
game would appeal to my target audience is because of the type of game I am making. Older
audiences usually play indie, side-scroller type games, this is one of the reasons why I think that
my target audience will be older. The fact that this game will be cheap is one of the reasons why I
think that my target audience will be working class as my game will be affordable by any one.
Looking at statistics of other similar games, I found out that the gender of my audience will mainly
be male. One of the more obvious reasons for this is because games are played more by males.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
I have acquired and learnt many Photoshop skills over the year, as before starting the course I did
not know how to use Photoshop at all. I have now learnt many of the tools on Photoshop such as
the magic wand tool which allows the user to select areas they want to delete without getting rid of
the whole image. This tool works with different shades of colours that are joint together. I have
learnt how to add effects to my design and animate using layers. With all of the skills that I have
learnt over the year I am going to use layers a lot as well as the pencil tool set to pixels and the
paint bucket tool. These are the main Photoshop tools I will use along with selection tool to move
layers about. I have learnt from my advergame and my practise version of my video game that I
will need to make the character look animated like its actual gameplay of a game. I will do this by
making a character but having his body parts on different layers therefore I can create 4 leg types
one for when he’s running, one for when he’s walking, etc. This will greatly improve the quality of
my work, allowing for a better animated game.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
From the mind map that I created, my game concept has changed. Originally I was going to make
a survival, horror, game that is a side-scroller. The idea I had, I liked but it would be difficult to
make since I am no professional when it comes to making pixel art as well as animating it using
Photoshop. This original idea was to make a survivor of an apocalypse that is scavenging for
supplies and you have to try to ration out these supplies and fight of enemies such as other hostile
scavengers and monsters. However, now I think back on the idea, I don’t think it would work using
pixel art, and I don’t have enough time to create this idea. Therefore, I have decided to make a
side-scrolling, shooter, horror game where you have to use the environment to bypass obstacles
as well as monsters. The game will allow you to fight back, it is not a horror game where you just
try to outrun some monster constantly chasing you. It will be as gory as a pixel art game can get.
Allowing you to shoot down monster by monster. If I can I will add jump scares in, however this
may be quite difficult. One of the key parts to do before starting my video game is to research. I will
research other similar horror games and research games that are very different but in the horror
game category. This will give me inspiration for my story, characters (s), and world setting. It will
also determine the art style as I am in the middle of creating the art style black and white tones/
greyscale or in colour. One of the big inspirations for this game is Killing Floor 2, and Left 4 Dead
1, and 2. I will be mixing a horror with a gory shooter, and it will be in pixel art style. One similar
game that I found to my idea is Guns, Gore & Cannoli.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan to evaluate my video game through analysing my game and its outcomes. Also, referencing
my game on an on-going evaluation and completing a self-reflection. I will explain how my video
game turned out, and will talk about what I would change if I were to do it again. I would also
explain the positives and negatives of my video game, and then go on to talk about what I like the
most about it. I will talk about the research side of things as well as the final product. I will go on to
write about how the research helped me determine my final video game design and what sort of
games inspired me the most, and what didn’t help me as much. I will also write about how useful
the information I gathered was, and if primary or secondary research was more useful. This
process will help me determine my strengths and weaknesses in the production and research side
of things. This will be useful for other projects related to media, as it will determine what I need to
improve on and what I am strong at doing.

Older audiences usually play indie, side-scroller type games, this is one of the reasons why I think that my target audience will be older. The fact that this game will be cheap is one of the reasons why I think that my target audience will be working class as my game will be affordable by any one. Looking at statistics of other similar games, I found out that the gender of my audience will mainly be male. One of the more obvious reasons for this is because games are played more by males. Rationale (approx. 100 words) I have acquired and learnt many Photoshop skills over the year, as before starting the course I did not know how to use Photoshop at all. I have now learnt many of the tools on Photoshop such as the magic wand tool which allows the user to select areas they want to delete without getting rid of the whole image. This tool works with different shades of colours that are joint together. I have learnt how to add effects to my design and animate using layers. With all of the skills that I have learnt over the year I am going to use layers a lot as well as the pencil tool set to pixels and the paint bucket tool. These are the main Photoshop tools I will use along with selection tool to move layers about. I have learnt from my advergame and my practise version of my video game that I will need to make the character look animated like its actual gameplay of a game. I will do this by making a character but having his body parts on different layers therefore I can create 4 leg types one for when he’s running, one for when he’s walking, etc. This will greatly improve the quality of my work, allowing for a better animated game. Project Concept (approx. 200 words) From the mind map that I created, my game concept has changed. Originally I was going to make a survival, horror, game that is a side-scroller. The idea I had, I liked but it would be difficult to make since I am no professional when it comes to making pixel art as well as animating it using Photoshop. This original idea was to make a survivor of an apocalypse that is scavenging for supplies and you have to try to ration out these supplies and fight of enemies such as other hostile scavengers and monsters. However, now I think back on the idea, I don’t think it would work using pixel art, and I don’t have enough time to create this idea. Therefore, I have decided to make a side-scrolling, shooter, horror game where you have to use the environment to bypass obstacles as well as monsters. The game will allow you to fight back, it is not a horror game where you just try to outrun some monster constantly chasing you. It will be as gory as a pixel art game can get. Allowing you to shoot down monster by monster. If I can I will add jump scares in, however this may be quite difficult. One of the key parts to do before starting my video game is to research. I will research other similar horror games and research games that are very different but in the horror game category. This will give me inspiration for my story, characters (s), and world setting. It will also determine the art style as I am in the middle of creating the art style black and white tones/ greyscale or in colour. One of the big inspirations for this game is Killing Floor 2, and Left 4 Dead 1, and 2. I will be mixing a horror with a gory shooter, and it will be in pixel art style. One similar game that I found to my idea is Guns, Gore & Cannoli.
  • 2. Proposal 2 Evaluation (approx. 50 words) I plan to evaluate my video game through analysing my game and its outcomes. Also, referencing my game on an on-going evaluation and completing a self-reflection. I will explain how my video game turned out, and will talk about what I would change if I were to do it again. I would also explain the positives and negatives of my video game, and then go on to talk about what I like the most about it. I will talk about the research side of things as well as the final product. I will go on to write about how the research helped me determine my final video game design and what sort of games inspired me the most, and what didn’t help me as much. I will also write about how useful the information I gathered was, and if primary or secondary research was more useful. This process will help me determine my strengths and weaknesses in the production and research side of things. This will be useful for other projects related to media, as it will determine what I need to improve on and what I am strong at doing.
