Working Title:
Golden Plains
Audience:
My audience would be someone who likes running and jumping games like Mario Bros, as well as
someone who likes animals and pretty scenery, as that is what the game is centred around. This
would most likely be stereotypically girls ages 12 – 18. Younger people could play this game due
to the fact it isn’t that difficult to beat and isn’t scary. The pretty scenery and colours for some
levels would also be directed at preteens and teenagers. It would appeal to girls because
stereotypically they tend to enjoy horse games.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
I acquired lots of Photoshop skills in the last project, print, which can be transferred to this project
as we use Photoshop to animate. These skills include how to pick different colours and change to
pencil, as well as add a mask to change the hue and brightness/contrast of all layers. Furthermore,
I learned how to use adobe premiere effectively whilst editing the short film made in the 2nd week,
which will help when compiling different animations and adding sound to it. Due to already knowing
these skills and having prior experiences with the tools, I’ll be able to complete my project
efficiently as I will not have to spend time learning particular techniques.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The main concept for my game is a running game. It will be a 2d side scroll game where the player
moves as the character of a black horse. The player will have to avoid certain obstacles such as
trees and rocks whilst some enemies are chasing them close behind. If they catch the player, it’s
game over.
The game will have 3 levels, each with different settings and soundtracks. The first level will be a
forest setting at sunset, with fallen trees as the obstacles. The next setting will be a cave at night
time, with rocks as obstacles and a slightly foreboding soundtrack. Finally, the last level will be a
golden field at sunrise, with a hopeful soundtrack to insinuate the player is close to the end. The
obstacles will be fences. Once the player gets to the end of this level, they win.
For research, I will need to look at endless runner 2d games and pixel games that include horses,
as well as the horse animation cycle in order to animate the main character correctly.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
For an Evaluation, I will go through each part of the planning and production process, reflecting on
the positives and negatives and how they impacted my whole project. I will also include peer
feedback for my finished product and reflect on this, summarising what went well and what I could
improve. I will use this evaluation as a guide on how to make my FMP most efficiently through
looking at things I should continue to do, and things I should improve.
