2. Process
For my experiment I decided create an rpg as that’s the
genre of game my final product shall be. For my inspiration I
looked at a wide variety of classic rpgs ranging from Final
fantasy and Warcraft III to Secrets of mana and chrono
trigger. I decided to go for the classic final fantasy look as I
loved playing the games. I created the characters and
background in photoshop with a 120x80 pixel size
document however for the writing I put that in after I
enlarged the document to export which I’ll talk about more
in a bit. Firstly I created two basic characters and walk cycles
which I would defiantly say aren’t the best. I then went on
to make a frame by frame animation which is basically an
easier version of stop animation where you move an object,
in this case the character one frame at a time and take a
screen shot. You can then delay the time in-between each
frame depends on how smooth you want it to run. I then
got the document ready to export by enlarging the pixel size
which is when I added in the text as the text would be too
large for 120x80 pixels. I then exported the file and
uploaded it too YouTube. I shall be using the same layout
for my final project as final fantasy is my main inspiration.
3. Process
I also decided to look at already existing characters to
try find a style unique to myself. Starting from the top
left we have ‘Lucas’ from ‘Mother 3’, ‘Scott Pilgrim’
from ‘Scott pilgrim vs the world: The game’. The top
two are characters of my own design. I found this
especially helpful as it allowed me to look at what's
already out there on the market and allows me to
create my own style. When it comes to making my
final product I shall be using the same style of clothes
and hair as this is a traditional German outfit called
lederhosen. The hair and eyes are also important the
my design choice as they’re stereotypical German
features. After creating the experiment characters I
realised that I would have to make my characters
from a side on angle as that’s the angle of the game.
