Working Title:
Die or Survive
Audience:
My audience will be males roughly between the age of 13 and 19. I feel that my product will appeal
well to them as I have gathered primary research to find out that males of this age enjoy dark
games with violence. I feel that this will appeal to the male gender more as they are most likely to
play video games that revolve around finding items and killing. As the game is violent it will also
include a lot of dark colours which will appeal to the male audience more. This game will also
appeal to this age range as they have the most time to play games. They will also be more open
minded and a belonger psychographic as they will be more focused about being the best. As they
are more open minded at this game, the will be more able to think and believe about make belief
that is in the game. Finally, the colours will also appeal to the audience as they will be dark and
dingy which I have found out that my audience like.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Over the last year and a half, I have gathered many skills to be able to help me for this. For
example, I have previously made an advergame before and believe that I will use this experience
to make another good one. In my last game, I learnt the basics of moving items and characters.
With my experiments that I made this year I have learnt more which will help more. As I am
wanting to make a scroll game, I have learnt how to make the background be able to scroll in any
direction I want. This is to make It more free roaming. As in previous projects I have worked with
sound, I will also use this experience to create sounds and music to fit with the game. Finally, I will
use the knowledge of Photoshop that I have to create character and items that will move. This
allows me to full choose how characters and objects look.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My project will be a little difficult to make. My game will consist of gameplay, setting changes and
player menus.
Firstly I will have the game start up on the starting screen where the game name will load in. As
this is a console I will have a press ‘X’ to start. This will clearly tell the audience how to keep going.
As the next screen comes up, it will show a player’s character load where they will decide to open
their pre-made save that has got equipment and levels. This will open the game as they start
exploring the map, finding weapons and killing monsters. This will allow them to open up their
inventory and change weapons and armour with ones that have better attack or defence. After
exploring they will go against a boss battle. Each area will have a different soundtrack. Once
defeating the boss, they will save the game and log off. For this I have needed to research about
different armours the character could wear and different weapon designs. I will also need to make
a few different looking monsters and soundtracks. For that I will research the sort of music in
games. Finally, I think that I will have to research the timings for normal starting up and shutting
down pages.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
With my evaluation, I will have two power points to break it down. First I have production reflection.
During making the game I will take screenshots to all steps, I will then write about what I thought of
this process. By doing this I can analyse what I thought so I know if I should try it again in any later
projects. I will make a final evaluation where I will evaluate what I thought of all my steps, such as
research and initial plans. This will let me this about what could have been done better and if I had
to change anything.
