• My mind went straight to Super Mario Bros when I saw this brief. I like
playing games like thee because they are progressive and easy to play. I
like the aesthetics of the game and how simple the game is. I want to
create my own game similar to this aesthetics.
• My first idea was to create a game with traditional historical Chinese
setting/theme. I like the infrastructure of Chinese, historical buildings
because they are so detailed. This would have a scroll background and
include different enemies. I will also include different locations, similar to
Mario levels, when the level is finished, the flag goes down and the next
level begins in a different location.
• I also thought of creating a game similar to the Stranger Things mobile
game. Which is also similar to some PSVita games. This is a story game
which has different locations and small missions to complete which add to
a main mission. This would be harder to make then the Chinese history
idea I had, as I would have to make more locations and characters and a
strong storyline for the whole game.
Mind Map
Game Ideas
A scroll background game set
in historical China, including
the historic buildings and
Chinese traditions. The main
character will have to battle
with various enemies and
obstacles to be able to get
the end post, where the level
ends and the next one
begins. There will be a check
point half way between the
levels, so that if the
character dies, they can
spawn back to the midpoint.
3 lives.
A adventure/story game about a zombie apocalypse where only a few have
survived, and have to get from the infected airport to the science lab where a
vaccination lies, which will end the apocalypse. There are check points
throughout the infected village, meaning that if the character dies, they spawn
from a certain point rather then the start. Three lives but they reset when the
player dies – not when levelling up – power ups available.
A maze like game similar
to Pacman, where the
main character has to get
to the safe ground in the
middle of the maze,
without being attacked or
harmed by the enemies
or else game is over. No
check point or safe
points, the player has one
attempt to get to the
middle, however, power
ups are available
throughout the game.
Mind Map
Final Game
Idea
Characters:
- The main character will be a
girl dressed in a traditional
Chinese fighter outfit,
equipped with samurai
swords and bombs.
- Men dressed in full black
outfits, as the enemies
trying to stop the
protagonist.
- Traditional Dragons which
spit fire (SMALL) towards the
protagonist.
Backgrounds:
- Traditional Chinese buildings in
the background
- Levels set on the roof of the
houses, adding different locations
and variety to the game.
- Behind the buildings, blue sky
with some clouds.
Background will be a scroll background, using
tween, with 25 slides to begin with, this
more can be added or taken away.
Mood Board
Mood Board Analysis
There are lots of blues and reds popping up on my mood board.
The sky in the game images is blue, and are in the similar style to
which I want my game to be like. The red will stand out against
the blue, making the buildings pop and look more visually
please to the aesthetics of the game. The games look easy and
kind, rather then dark, empty games. I want to create an ‘all age
friendly’ game, excluding any dark grim scenes. All the images
link up, which will help me create the final aesthetics of my
game.
I will reference my mood board when designing my game,
staying true to my ideas, simultaneously, expanding my idea, to
make the best game I can. This will help my skills develop and
potentially help me to create similar things in the future.
