3. Research
• Strengths- The strengths of my research was definitely giving me a great idea of what direction
to go in with my product, e.g. what theme/tone I should go for. Another strength was that I got a
good idea of what other products on the market, like mine, looked like and how they were
presented, without this I think I would have been a bit of a struggle to start my work or even where
to start my work. Another great strength was that I was able to research possible ideas that I liked
and others that I didn’t as much, giving me a clear look of what theme of my product I wanted to go
down, seeing what theme was harder than the next, if the theme was too time consuming or if the
theme was too difficult to produce. The research did help my product because when I was looking
for fresh ideas for specific things I researched other products that gave me other and similar ideas
to what I wanted. Also when looking for creepy font styles for my game I needed ideas that were
unique for me and using research to get ideas for them really helped as I was able to get a clear
image of what I wanted. Research definitely helped me when making my sprites/characters as not
being the best drawer in the world I struggled, so being able to research specific, individual
characters and how to draw them, it really helped.
• Weaknesses – There wasn’t really a lot of weaknesses with my research but a main weakness was
probably that all the games I included In my research were practically the same, there wasn’t really
any diversity between each game, which perhaps restricted me in how I wanted my game and how I
could of got my game to be like. Another weakness would be that I didn’t have enough audience
research which restricted me into what my audience wanted as a whole, which made me base
myself on what I thought.
4. Planning
• Strength's - the strengths of my planning was that I could organise and plan all
what I was doing before everything was finalised. Which helped me decide what I
wanted and what I didn’t want with my final design. Another strength was that I
could explore multiple ideas and change them to see what looked effective and
what looked rubbish. This helped a lot like the first reason as I was able to have
multiple options to choose from, instead of just one idea.
• Weaknesses - the weaknesses of my planning was that just because I made a plan
doesn’t mean I actually knew what I wanted to do. Especially since I made quite a
few plans, this meant that I actually I had to choose from a few wasting time in the
process. Another weakness was that my planning could never actually be finalised
as I was always thinking of ideas all the time and picking things out that I had just
thought of. So making a plan doesn’t necessarily mean you know what your doing.
5. Time Management
• I believe that I manged my time alright but I think I was a bit lazy and I think I could
have handled it a lot better. For example on about two occasions I was a little late
to hand in on time for the deadline. Although the work was still of good quality but
it just took more time then it probably should of. Although some sections such as
my planning and research were on time and done well as can be expected, but
harder topics that I don’t think I was quite ready for, I was late to hand in such as
my production experiments and just my production in general. I think I big thing
that would have helped me with my product would have definitely been more
time, especially with this product as I saw myself running out of time far too
quickly. Especially on the big products such as the final production as I spent far
too much time on the writing segments, so I really restricted myself on the big
parts of my product.
6. Technical Qualities
Similarities – the similarities between my product and the product on the right, is they are
both of the horror genre and they are both out there to scare. Another similarity is both
settings are dark and mysterious, both have grass and both include a dark night with clouds.
Another similarity is they both include a monster/creature in the game, which adds
creepiness to a horror game.
Differences – the differences of my product between this one is the drawings, mine are so
much worse then the ones shown on the right. Along with the setting, I think the setting is
way better drawn than mine and looks way more artistic and creative than mine. Another
difference is how way more detail has been incorporated in to the one on the right than my
game has. All you have to do is look at the background setting with the bricks and the moon.
Another difference is the player has a health bar whilst my doesn’t. Its just these little
differences that make the game on the right, that bit more effective than mine.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I don’t think my work does look good too be honest as I
think my drawings were just not up to a good enough
artistic standard. I just think the character’s and the
setting weren’t worthy of most 8 bit games on the
market. I think my game is very creative and I think the
concept of it is very good, the story is by far the best
thing about my product. The game actually relies on its
creativity without that I generally don’t think it would
be watchable. Like the question about my work looking
good I’m displeased with the visuals of the game as it
doesn’t look visually pleasing, the only thing about the
visuals I like is the title and the clouds. I would improve
a lot of things about this especially the drawings and
the setting like mentioned above, I also think the music
and sound effects could be a bit better. I think if I had a
bit more time I could of found more suitable music and
sound effects as time was my enemy in this product.
Strengths – its story is really interesting and
cool and hooks the watcher straight away.
Another strength is that the start screen is
full of detail and great to look at. I also like
the dialogue that I have made for the
character as that adds a bit of story to the
game.
Weakness – its soundtrack and sound
effects aren’t great and make the game feel
very sad and depressing. Which isn’t really
the theme I was going for. Another
weakness is obviously my drawings as they
just make the game look very childish
8. Audience Appeal
I think I have appealed to my target audience as I
said I was going to do a horror game and that is
what I have produced. The game does give what
the audience want In a horror game, a creepy
setting, a creepy story and a monster and it has all
this. Although the content produced just wasn’t
great. A specific bit of content that would appeal to
my audience would be obviously the creature, as
there is no fear in a horror game if you know that
there is no monster. I have also appealed to my
target audience because asking my audience they
suggested that they wanted a setting at night and
they at least wanted creepy music to make the
tone scary and perhaps little jump scares when the
player doesn't expect. I think I did all this things as
was suggested by my audience to do.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– What I liked your product was the fact that you put a lot of thought in to the props that
you created, I thought the concept and the whole idea you were trying to get across, got
across well, the music that you put in to it, I thought it really gave off a dark and
disturbing vibe and it fits well with your game, I also think that it will attract your
intended target audience.
What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• The improvements what I think you could of made, were the drawing of your props and the
character, I think if you had been given more time you could of made them look a bit better.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• In my honest opinion I wasn’t a fan of this game, I didn’t like the music or the way the
characters were draw I thought you could of done a lot better, compared to existing products
this wasn’t great, you could of put a bit more thought in to your story line, and made it more
scary, I think if you took your time more you could of made the drawings a lot better I also
didn’t get what your storyline was about at all.
What improvements could have been made to
the product?
The improvements that you should make on this is add more to the storyline, to allow people to
understand your game, I also think you could do your drawings better, and also add better music,
something that your audience will like, as fair as colors go, there alright, for me that’s the only
decent thing about your game…
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
• I like this product as the music really goes well with the rest of the game. Also I enjoyed how
the game looks and I actually think the drawings were funny to see. I also liked how the game
is very mysterious and creepy and by just hearing the music you can tell that it is a scary
game. I also like how the way this person has created all of their work themselves instead of
gathering things of the internet, as it makes it more personal and interesting.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• I think perhaps a few improvements can be made on this. Although the drawings were funny,
they weren’t that well drawn and looked slightly childish, so maybe to improve this get some
templates and draw over them as this will help you draw a better person. Another
improvement would be to include more sound effects as this would make the game more
cinematic and interesting to play. So by putting in some music it can make the game that
more exciting.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
• I do agree with a lot of my peer feedback as the comments are all true. For example a few people
said that they enjoyed my story of my game and I really enjoyed hearing that as that is what I really
wanted to convey in my game. Another thing I enjoyed hearing about my game was my characters
as I wasn’t that happy with how they turned out and was disappointed when they were finished,
but the feedback has made me feel better about them and even reassured me about them.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• I disagree with a few things with my feedback as I believe some points were slightly harsh. For
example there was a point made about my music and sound effects not being good and not fitting
with my game. I found this slightly harsh as I thought one of my best features of my game was
actually my music. Another thing I disagreed with was that somebody dislike the story of my game
which I felt was a little harsh as that along with my music was one of the strongest parts of my
game. The story for me was strong but everything else perhaps wasn’t so to dislike that is a bit
unfair in my opinion.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
The changes I would make to my game would be the characters and the whole
design of the game, as I believe a big loss for my game not being the best was my
personal drawing skills letting me down, so if I could improve my skills I would
defiantly try and have a go to making a better looking setting and more attractive
and creepy characters. Another change I would like to make would be too add more
sound effects and creepy noises to my game as I think it lacked that and lacked a few
scary encounters. I think to judge it as a scary game, it wasn’t a good one cause of
the things I just stated. Another change I would make would be the to add more
monsters and creepy creatures. As I think the creatures I went with were lazy and
boring and could have been a lot better than what I potentially made.
