The document outlines a proposal for a horror game called "Helpless." It discusses the target audience being fans of psychological horror games and males in particular. The concept involves surprising the player by initially presenting as a generic horror game but then transforming into something different, trapping the player in a new area to solve an escape. Research will examine similar existing horror games to inspire atmosphere, tension, sound, music, and character design. Progress and quality will be evaluated through screenshots, notes on struggles, and analysis of early issues.

Psychological Horror Game Proposal
1. Proposal
1
Working Title:
The current name for the game is ‘Helpless’ though this may change later on.
Audience:
The target audience are people who are fans of the horror genre of games. Over the last few years
the genre has had many memorable and unique entries so the audience for the genre has only
gotten bigger with different people explaining different things.
The primary audience is people who are bigger fans of the psychological types of horror games,
since there’s more room for the game to be as unique as possible.
The primary gender that I think will find the most appeal in the game is Males since, looking on
YouTube and other social platforms that seems to be the most overwhelming majority.
The game may have a theme of finding yourself or thinking more clearly for yourself so the
secondary audience is still people who like games lie this, but also people that struggle with finding
where they belong, this, again, might change as I get closer to making the product however. I will
be making the product with that goal in mind however.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
With the use of Photoshop, I’ve figured out how to have multiple things moving on the screen at
one time, without making it look too choppy and out of place.
For one of my experiments I tried to animate a bird moving its wings up and down while moving,
with the sun rays moving in the background. Detail like that is something I want to try and include
in the final product because I think that it adds to the atmosphere and immersion of the game.
I also tried to make characters that look unique to that product, while not perfect I think I did a good
enough job at doing what I set out to do.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my game, is it’s going to be a horror game that kind of surprises the player, they
think that it’s just the standard horror game with generic jump scares, I want this initial setting
because it already sets up an atmosphere, so I don’t have to try and build one up for a few hours,
which I obviously don’t have enough time for.
After about 30 seconds of mindlessly walking around a creepy looking room the game starts to
break and turn into something else. Eventually the game has changed levels and the player is
somewhere completely different. The player can try and leave this area but they’re trapped and
need to find their own way out. It’s at this point the player is introduced to the main villain and the
one good guy, only having two characters helps the player come to a final choice at the end on
who they can trust. The style of the game is still unknown, it be made so you only see the
silhouettes of the characters, leaving it to the imagination of the player to know what everything
looks like. Or it might be fully animated
The obvious kind of research I’ll need to do is to look at already existing horror games that are
similar to this one and see what works best with those and how I can try and take the inspiration
from that and put it to my own game. Things like, the atmosphere, tension, sound effects, music,
and character design
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate the product, I’m going to be taking screenshots throughout the entire production
process and explaining what I was doing at that certain stage, what was working, what wasn’t, and
what I could be doing better.
When the game is completely finished, I’m going to see what I struggled with most and try to
improve on it for next time.
If I have any issues early on, I’m going to take notes on those so I can analyse them straight away
which should get me to improve quicker.
