Project proposal title and date:
Cool waiting room music
Main area of activity:
I will be filming a scene for a short film/music video. With this i will use light and camera to
record the character in a green screen setting and use adobe premiere pro and photoshop to
edit out the green screen to add the location, and to add rotoscoping lines on the character
and props in correlation to the music that I create on garage-band.
Rationale:
Throughout the year I have worked on many different projects however I most enjoyed the
music video and print rotation as I found them the most hands on with editing. With the music
video rotation, I also found that I hand more choice to what I could make and that I was able
to embed a story into the video to match the lyrics. During the music video rotation was the
first time I ever made a short film where I really needed to plan everything I wanted to make
and develop my ideas. It was the first time I felt like I had full rain to what I could make and
change it to how I specifically wanted, until I had something that was far superior to what I
could have made with limitations. That’s is something that I really want to experience that
feeling again but on a larger scale with more freedom. Video is by far my favourite project to
make and I want to try and push myself in that for this project, however as I am already very
confident within premier pro and don’t think I could dramatically improve over the course of
this project. I really wanted to challenge myself and learn new things within this project, this is
why I decided to do a music video as I think I’ll learn a lot of new skills to do with making more
professional, as well as create a product that can push me both my creativity and my skills
and ability with both the equipment as well as the software that I will need to use to assemble
it all. I really want to create something that looks and feels not only professional but real, I
want to create something where the viewer can think that it impressive. I will also create a
thumbnail for the video as this would allow me to firstly, see how all the characters look next
to each other so that I can change anything clothing wise or spacing if needed. I feel that from
all the projects I have gone through and studied this past year I have learned and acquired
enough skills that I can build upon to create a product that will be far superior to anything I
have made before. With a high school project of making music, I will also be able to use this
knowledge to create the music for the video. I feel that this adds another element to the
product that I have control over, being able to make a soundtrack to find the story line. Finally,
with the documentary I made, I started to learn and use the rotoscoping idea and effect on my
work using photoshop. This is another big element that I want to add in.
Project Concept:
In preparation for this project, I researched a few different styles and creators who have made
something similar, straight away I first had to brainstorm ideas, I already had a relatively clear
idea of what I wanted to create. The contextual information I researched all had very specific
aspects that I liked for example the layout of the characters so that you can easily see them
all. And with the audio so that you can hear a balance between the characters to create a
song. I will use that information and those specific aspects from the products to influence my
final product so that all its technical aspects (e.g., tone and mood, editing, sound etc.) are as
good as they possibly can be and are coherent with the story that I want to tell. The project
that I am going to create is a comedy music video/ short film, the concept of the project is very
linear, the rough idea is that we can see the story progress in a real-life scenario in 4 stages.
The first stage is the beginning when we are introduced to the characters, and who they are.
This short window of opportunity will allow the audience to see what kind of character they
are. I need a clearly established location that would be believable for all the character to be in
(E.G a waiting room). During this first stage the character will start to use their items to create
a small beat, without any meaning to. With each major beat from the 4 characters, we will be

able to visually see a physical hit effect that will be rotoscoped in during the pre-production
stage. The second stage is where the main character notices the 4 characters to his side
creating this ‘song like beat’. When the character in the middle notices this he uses his
instrument to create the melody that holds the song together. This melody will start slow, in
tempo to the surrounding character. As the middle character plays the instrument will start to
gain rotoscoped lines on corners and sides which as the song progresses, links together for
the 3rd stage. The 3rd turning point gives us more detail to the sounds and a change in tempo
and tone. This stage will happen when the middle character gets to the peak of the melody. At
this stage the tempo will quicken changing the rhythm of all characters. The side characters,
using the same objects/ or new objects, with the new tempo will create a similar beat but
faster and in a different order to show the audience that this is a new stage to the video. In
this stage the side characters objects that they use to create the sound will be fully
rotoscoped with the occasional visual of a physical beat effect. The main character in the
middle, with the increased tempo, carry on playing through the melody but with an upbeat
rhythm to match the surrounding characters. This character will also have a fully rotoscoped
instrument. To draw attention to the objects that they are using. Finally, the 4th stage is where
the man character has reached the end of the peak and is making his way to the end of the
song. This will result in all 5 characters returning to the staring tempo. The surrounding
characters will use the same beat so symbolise the song coming to an end, as well as. Only
having rotoscoped physical hits. The main character ends the song while the surrounding
characters stop for the final 4 bars. Once the song has ended, the surrounding characters will
use their objects one more time, out of beat to symbolise them making this song as a
coincidental accident.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will evaluate my work against existing professional work as well as some of my own existing
work to look at the progress I have made and what I need to do to make my work look more
professional. I will also evaluate it on a weekly basis as well as on a daily basis by reflecting
on the work I did on that day/during that week, this will ensure I have a good idea of what I did
each week and it will give me a good reference point, as well as provide me with a constant
idea of what might need improving or how I need to manage my time so. This reflection will be
done by my daily diary entries where I can reflect on what I have done in the day and set
targets for the next day. The same will be done with my weekly vlogs that I will make. Allowing
me to look back on the weeks work and set goals for the next week and to keep me on track
of my progress. This process will ensure that my final product will be far better as I will
constantly be reviewing my work through its process and reflecting on if I could do it better or
change anything. I will reflect on peer feedback plus a final self-reflection so I can see what I
thought of the product and what other people thought of it. Finally, I will compare my final
product to my first intentions and my planning and see if it is similar and where it has differed,
and if there are differences, I will explore why I did it differently. This will allow me to fully
evaluate to see where is weakest in the project and if I have time, I can go back and add to
make it stronger, whilst showing me what I can do better for future projects.
