4. Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
– A quick way to brainstorm and jot down ideas because you’re forced to get them down onto paper,
laying everything out in front of you.
– Easy and simple to see and read, which of course makes it easier for others to understand your ideas.
– Can use visual or written aids, which gives you a variety of ways to display your ideas.
– Can display many different ideas, which gives you many options too choose from.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Can seem overwhelming when you finally have to choose your final idea.
– May look scattered, which could make it harder to understand and follow.
– May not be able to get as detailed as one would like, which could cause problems when creating the
final project.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– I think it may be an effective way to brainstorm and throw idea’s around, however, I couldn’t make it
as detailed as I would of liked it to be.
6. Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
– Displays the theme of the poster, which will help people understand what you poster is about and
what it relates too.
– Helps round up different and similar ideas, giving you a plethora of inspiration to draw from when it
comes to the final project.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Can not be detailed, because it simply shows pictures and sometime pictures are hard to read and
may cause confusion.
– It’s impossible to be specific, which doesn’t help make ideas any more concise.
– May be hard to find pictures relating to your theme, which may lead to you collecting images that
have little do with the original project idea you had in mind.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– No I do not think the mood board is the best option for me. It was frustrating not being specific and
just taking pictures that were the general idea of a certain theme.
8. Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
– Helps gather different font ideas, which is obviously needed in a poster to display the name of your
brand and details, and it’s important that it stands out.
– Helps establish a theme, which will help you when making the final project because you have a more
concise route to follow.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Doesn’t help display a wide range of ideas, which is difficult when trying to gather inspiration for the
poster.
– Only helps with the font and colour schemes, which is important, but there is a lot more to the
project that that.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– I liked the style sheet. It drew in my themes and gave me further ideas, but wasn’t particularly
detailed.
9. Layout Plan A dark and
demask
background to
give the poster
an ancient
Halloween type
feel.
A big orange pumpkin in the
center of the poster to
represent the festivities of
Halloween.
The cola cola logo
will look like it’s
almost carved into
the pumpkin, and be
a an offish-yellow
colour with
shadowing. It will not
be red.
The only Coca-Cola
colour representation in
the ad. Easy to know that
It is a coke advert.
Shaped like the moon for
extra Halloween related
reasons.
Bats flying from behind the
pumpkin
and flying towards the Coca-
Cola ‘moon’.
Have the slogan a
white colour and in
the pumpkin, so
you really need to
pay attention to the
poster.
10. Layout Plan
A black matte background to
make the iconic red and
white of the Coca-Cola stand
out.
A spotlight shining
from the black
background and onto
the coke can, making
it the center of
attention.
Bat wing on the back
of the coke can like a
halloween costume.Coke can takes center
stage with it’s iconic
colours being the
brightest thing to look
at it in the advert.
Bold, colourful slogan.
Orange to represent
Halloween. The coca-cola logo to further the
representation of the brand.
11. Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
– You can fully visualize a whole idea, which makes putting the poster in photo shop so
much more easier.
– You can map out exactly how you want your project to look and get a clear idea of how
the final product will come out.
– Individually analysing every sector of your project helps too understand why you are
doing certain stuff and how this will compliment your work.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– It may feel like once you have it mapped out then you have no creative freedom and
that may seem very limiting, which could negatively impact your final product.
– It may be hard to pull together your idea and feel rather pressuring.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– Yes I did like this idea. It was kind of liberating to have a map of how I want things too
look and why I want them to look that way.
13. Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
– Give you a chance to explore many different idea branches and topics surrounding the
radio advert, so there will be many choices to choose from when picking your final
project.
– There are few limits, you can be wild with your ideas because you are just going through
many, which can be very freeing.
– One idea can lead into another, and brainstorming is a great way of connecting those
idea’s to make one well thought out, detailed plan.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– You may spend a lot of time thinking of many different, little and weak ideas than
putting effort into building up a detailed and well structured plan.
– The many different idea routes could be a little overwhelming, making it difficult to pick
a final project.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– I didn’t mind using this method. Although I get its appeal and purpose, I found it very
difficult thinking of many small ideas instead of just sticking to one and building up the
detail.
14. Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– The tutor can give you constructive feedback, which will help further and
solidity ideas.
– You will walk through the entirety of the ad, giving you chances to realise
faults and fill in any areas that need work.
– It may help you picture the entire radio advert and get a very clear idea of
how the final project may look.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– It may constrict any creative freedom you feel by confining and specifying your
ideas.
– The tutor may have negative feed back and make you waver about the project,
even when you think the idea yourself is strong. It could nock back your
confidence.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Yes I enjoyed giving the informal pitch and found it very helpful – the constructive feedback
from the tutor to go into further detail really helped and will show in my formal pitch plan.
15. Formal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– The formal pitch will help you thoroughly analyse and dissect the radio advert, which
brings to light high points and flawed points.
– It will make you think further about who your advert is intended for and if you are
hitting all the right criteria for that age range.
– It will make you consider if your radio advert is offensive, which is sometimes hard to
pick up on unless you really think about it.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– It may be a hindrance on your final product if you over analyse it, removing a lot of
creative freedom you may of felt before hand.
– It takes a long time to fill in, and you could spend that time further developing and
improving your actual product.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– Yes, it was nice to hash out all of my ideas in a structured and a formal way. It really
helped finalise the project for me.
16. Initial Reaction
Advergame.
- My initial reaction to the task was to be quite worried. I am still not confident in
Photoshop, and wouldn’t even know where to start when it comes to animation.
- I understand the project, and I am exited to start brainstorming ideas and coming
with concepts
17. Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
– It can better help you understand how you feel about the project, and may highlight any
worries you initially have.
– It will allow you to start brainstorming ideas earlier and give you a few options to start
with.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– You might not fully understand how you feel about the project and find it hard to write
down your feelings.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– No, I didn’t think it was helpful at all and couldn’t really gather my immediate ideas and
thoughts into a paragraph.
18. Sketches
I white ghost to represent
the theme of Halloween will
float across the spooky
scene collecting Coca-Cola
cans.
The graves will ne
gray and tony with
dark accents, and are
only there as
decoration to
perpetuate the image
of an aerie night.
A green and grassy floor.
A spooky, brown leafless
tree that the ghost passes
through.
The iconic cans are
floating the air, waiting
to be collected by the
ghost.
19. Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
– It will give you a visual and realistic reference to refer too when creating the
advergame in Photoshop.
– It can be as detailed as you personally want it to be, if you only need a quick
draft it could be easy to draw up and can still be very useful.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– It maybe frustrating to not be able to get an accurate sketch and could put you off the
idea.
– Drawing up your ideas can be time consuming if you like drawing in detail, when it may
just be easier to jump right into the Photoshop production.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
– Yes I did like using this method. Drawing the sketch wasn’t that hard and I actually
enjoyed successfully getting my work sketched onto paper. I also like analysing the
sketches so I knew exactly why everything was there and what its function was.
20. Formal Proposal
Why?
– I didn’t mind using this method, it was a little too time consuming and technical for me, but it was
helpful too further analyse my work.
